I ordered the beer sampler, which was really nice. The pours were a great size, I would guess 6ozs. The buffalo meatloaf was great. The gravy was delicious, and the meatloaf was everything it’s supposed to be — not grainy, well seasoned and the gravy was the perfect complement. Our server was really nice, and the manager(or owner) even came over and checked up on us. She noticed I hadn’t touched my red beans and rice, and she asked if everything was OK. Great beer, and cheap dinner. Can’t wait to order a full pint of beer next time.

My son and I had dinner at Pappy’s Smokehouse(next door) in July 2012. I promised him dessert, so we ended up here. Nice place, but dead compared to Pappy’s. I had 2 Buffalo Gold beers, my son a chocolate brownie and I brought a Growler home.

I’m not sure what to make of the Buffalo Brewing Co. My buddy and I ambled our way into this place after gorging on Pappy’s next door. We were having a day of trying different local breweries, and it just worked out that we parked next to this restaurant. The restaurant itself is nice and clean, but it was quite dead(especially compared to the packed Pappy’s). Dead is never a problem, but you would think that the staff would have been happy to see someone belly-up to their bar. On the contrary, the bartender and the owner didn’t even really offer any kind of warm personality. I’m not saying they were rude or inattentive… just indifferent. It just sat weird with me. Since we were full, I just opted on a beer. I think it was their Rye IPA. Meh. It was okay. It didn’t blow my hair back… it was a beer. I don’t know. Maybe if there was some life in the restaurant that afternoon it would have been a different experience. Maybe their food will change my mind. I hear they actually serve buffalo, so that will bring me back. By the way, if the owners are reading this, you really need to spruce up your website. It’s very flat and uninspiring. Market yourself!

I was excited to try a new place before a concert at Chaifetz– there are so many great options in midtown now! We debated between Brinco’s and Buffalo Brewing as we are wanting to complete the trifecta that is made up of those two hot spots plus Pappy’s. This is a smaller place, just a basic rectangle with a few cocktail tables, a few standard tables, and about 8 – 10 seats right at the bar. It has a warm, comfy vibe with a western motif. A salad bar is on one side of the place– I took a look and it’s along the lines of what you would see in a grocery store. Iceberg, standard veggies, a few dressings, chili, and soup. This seems out of place here, but I suppose it is an efficient way to handle all salads in one fell swoop, is a healthier alternative for those not wanting bar food, plus inexpensive to boot. All the food here is inexpensive, though, especially for the portion size. I wound up with nachos off the appetizer list, and it was entrée size and then some with lots of ingredients piled on top. The standout here was the smoked chicken– possibly made in the same smoker Pappy’s uses? That would be some good mojo! The rest of the ingredients were pretty basic, right from a jar– salsa, jalapenos, back olives, etc. The end result was just okay. Even if I wouldn’t have been stuffed after eating the top layer, I couldn’t have gone much further as it turned into a pile pile of soggy chips. Such is the risk with nachos… it seems to be a surprisingly technical art to create the perfectly piled plate! Both of my friends got burgers, one a standard Angus, one the eponymous buffalo, or bison. This seems to be the better choice here, and it makes sense as a full third of the menu is dedicated to said burgers. The bison was tasty and juicy. I always forget what a yummy and nutritious alternative bison is to beef. However, the charred, rich flavor of the Angus could not be topped! It was the standout of the meal. For such a small place, their list of 5 or 6 house-made beers is diverse and delicious. I had a pumpkin ale to start, and a red lager with my nachos. I also sampled the chili beer. I’m glad I did, and while I enjoyed it, it really did have a kick. I’m happy I didn’t get it in combo with nachos, that would have been way too much spice and heat! Service was good, but a little inconsistent. Granted, there was a big pre-concert rush around the time we arrived and the bartender was slammed filling up beers, but there was other staff just standing around, including what looked like the floor manager. Jump in and lend a hand, my friends! Even if you can’t pour, you can get folks menus, water, answer questions, etc. Overall, I ‘m not in a rush to go back, but would return for beers and a burger.

Visited before a show at The Fox Theater in late December. Overall a good experience with a couple highs and a couple lows. Highs: Gumbo was really tasty as was the pizza that I ordered. The beer was REALLY good. I regret not buying a growler. Mac and cheese was on point. Cheesecake was delicious! Server was really nice and made it a good experience. Lows: Girlfriend ordered a ribeye medium rare and it came back cooked REALLY unevenly. Her first bite was as ordered, but beyond that it was well done in most places. She didn’t finish and didn’t bring the rest home either. Entrance was weird. Since it was snowing they had a sign asking people to come in through the multiplex main entrance to conserve energy, which is cool, but it was difficult to ascertain who to talk to about getting a table since we were essentially hanging out by the salad bar. We’ll probably make another trip back, at least for the beer. :)

Buffalo is kind of like a little mom and pop brewery, but in the middle of the city(next to the über-foodie-landmark Pappy’s). The décor here is nicer than some of the other breweries around town, really more of a restaurant feel, which for me is a good thing. We tried a sampler of all their beers, which were pretty hit-or-miss, but since I’m not a hophead I’ve come to expect that. I was impressed with a couple of them — one was infused with chile and had a bizarre spicy kick after going down cold. The other standout was a rye IPA that was really bold. Neither of these were my favorite, but they stood out in what’s becoming somewhat of a crowded field here in STL. My favorite of the sampler was the Moose Drool, a brown ale. The food was actually better than the beer. We had the mushroom appertizer and it was excellent. It came out on something like a fajita plate, sizzling and very tasty. We followed with an angus burger, something I get only rarely. It came with chips and a second side. We chose grilled veggies. Again, all was pretty good. Probably the best thing about our visit was the service by both our server and a couple I assumed to be the owners — all were very friendly. The one unfortunate thing is the server got our check wrong, fixed it, then brought back a different version of wrong. This is a very overlooked option, which plenty of open tables on a Saturday night. No reason not to stop in if you’re a beer lover. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

My mother visits me in Saint Louis on a regular basis. I like finding cool places in Saint Louis for her to eat at, as living out in Saint Charles county provides her with mostly dull chains. Additionally; I gave blood earlier today so I was a little wacky. The service was beyond excellent. The waitress remembered us and what we ordered the last time we visited, a month ago. Handled my requests and loopiness very well. Owner/manager, take note. We came in around 1PM today(Oct. 22nd). I am terrible with names, otherwise I’d highly recommend her by name. I ordered the BBQ wings, which were quite alot for the price. They were absolutely delicious and rival my other favorite: Hodak’s. Different in style but very satisfying without being too greasy or filling. Could not stop eating them. There is a ridiculously generous all-you-can-eat salad bar that includes soups and a meat dish(today was gourmet hot dogs). They also have amazing bread pudding. Try to save room for it.

My husband and I went for lunch on a Friday. One thing to take into consideration is that the restaurant is in the same building as Pappy’s and a Mexican restaurant, so parking can be a bear! We were seated immediately.(The place only had a few other tables taken.) Our server stayed on top of things and was very friendly. We ordered BBQ Buffalo Balls for an appetizer: 4 jumbo buffalo meatballs in a good tasting BBQ sauce, homemade tortilla chips, a bit of salsa, and a bowl of queso. I think the price was $ 6. Yummy! I ordered the Whiskey BBQ chicken, which came with homemade chips and another side(mac and cheese for me, which was good and creamy!). Serving sizes were good, and the price was reasonable. No complaints here. My husband ordered a chicken wrap and had a glass of the Buffalo Drool, which he enjoyed.

Beer good, food bad. You can tell the food was an after thought. Ordered a cheeseburger and it was gross, slimy and kinda tasted like salsbury steak. The waitress actually told me they came frozen & pre-cooked. They just heat them up! Really gross! My boyfriend said none of what he ordered was good. It seemed like Cysco truck food. If you wan to try some decent, unique beer, check them out, but do not waste your money on the food. The atmosphere was meh, boring, nothing special at all. I really wanted it to be good, as I am a beer lover, but my boyfriend and I will NEVER return.

Arrived here around 12:30 for lunch and we were able to be seated quickly. I think there may have been about 3 other tables in the restaurant at the time. Our server came over quickly and got our drink orders. When she returned with our drinks we were able to place our food order quickly. Our server was friendly and there was another worker helping out as well. He was helping refill our drinks and made sure we were doing ok. I like that kind of service. The food came out quickly and I know we all enjoyed our meals. If you haven’t had their mac and cheese please do! It’s delicious. It’s a great side to any meal you order! Trust me. By 1pm we asked for to-go boxes(the portion size is large) and our checks. We paid and went on our way back to the office. Overall, this is a quick lunch spot if you are in the area or looking to try something different. I enjoy the food and the service is always top-notch!

I was surprised to see all the beers being served in glasses that looked like they were from Steak ‘n Shake. I’m a traditional pint glass guy but that’s just me nitpicking. The beer flights could use a little better presentation rather than just 5 shot glasses of beer. I wish they would serve it on a traditional serving paddle. On the plus side, the Missouri Brown Ale was good. The big problem was that I order their Baked Beer Can Chicken, a signature dish, and it had clearly been cooked, refrigerated, and then reheated. Parts of the chicken were too cold to just be «sitting out». It was obviously really dry too. Mac ‘n’ cheese was bland. Service was good but the food was a real disappointment. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t go back after my experience.

Oooo weeeee. Flat and malty all across the board. The Buffalo roamed off the pasture on this one. I was here with two friends. We all have very different palates, but we were in violent agreement that this is simply not good beer. Being an out of towner here on business, I hope this was just a bad night for the taps??? The venue is attached to one of the fastest emerging premier BBQ restaurants in the country(Pappy’s Smokehouse). The vibe is okay. The service here was great and very friendly. The tasting was as follows: Gold ~(1⁄10): Bland, flat. Rye IPA ~(6⁄10): This was the only brew here worth a revisit. It had an earthy, smooth taste with subtle hops. Buffalo Head(American wheat) ~(3⁄10): Flat, odd taste for a wheat. Too malty. Hefeweizen ~(1⁄10): This was undrinkable { — That’s not a real word, and this Hefe wasn’t a real beer!). Buffalo Drool ~(1⁄10): No, no, no! What went wrong here? Brewmaster, I want you to be successful… Please rethink this recipe and relaunch. The marketing was great for this one, but it was executed terribly. This review may come across as harsh, but it’s constructive feedback to the owners/brewmaster. There are too many microbrews in town that will outlast this place if it doesn’t pick up the quality and find its niche. Then everybody loses. Hoping for the best, as I support local beer!

Came to Buffalo on a mini self-created bar crawl, so I was here only for the beer. I got the sampler, which included all of their beers and since they were out of one, whatever I wanted to double up for the last one. All of the beer was fairly generic, with only the buffalo drool(darker, brown beer) being better than average. As for their chili beer, it literally burned all the way down my throat and into my stomach. I love spicy things, but this beer just didn’t do it for me. Chili beers should have some sort of chili flavor, along with a spice. Not just capsicum extract or something like that. There was no flavor other than Bud/Miller/Coors style beer and spice. As for the food, I didn’t have any, but with Pappy’s in the same building, I don’t know why people would feel compelled to skip that and eat here instead.

All the food we ordered was okay or not good. Onion Ring: okay but we enjoyed the fact that you could taste the horseradish in the dipping sauce. Bison Balls: The BBQ sauce was tasty, the balls were alright but our cheese sauce was cold and reminded us of that bulk nacho cheese sauce you get from Costco. Fish and chips: The fish was alright but the burnt beer batter crust made most of it inedible. 2 Bison Burgers: one with bacon and blue cheese one just regular. Both were cooked to order and VERY large. They were okay but about half way throughout the salt was getting to be too much. Housemade chips: Pretty good… probably the only thing I would get again. Mac n Cheese: I couldnt finish it. It was lukewarm, bland and watery. There was no really flavor of cheese, just texture. Fries: not bad, but again… very salty. Overall, all of our dishes were too salty. They use the course salt which would imply you use less of it. But you could see that large amounts of salt on all the dishes, even the burger. Service was adequate and nothing to complain about.

I had to run to the McDonald’s on Tucker, to get some supplies for work. after being stuck in traffic for 30 minutes because my silly self did not know Marine week was happening all over the city. It was 6pm and i was STARRRRRRVING! I knew that there were a few restaurants around Pappy’s, so we headed up Olive St. After working all day, I decided i did not have the strength to stand in line at Pappy’s, then try to find somewhere to sit. so, we decided to try Buffalo Brewing Co. The place was practically empty at 6pm on a Saturday night. when we left they were filling up a bit. i decided to try the rye ipa beer. it was good. i am not much of a beer drinker but i drank it all. I had never tried bison, so I got the bison burger, fries, and mac & cheese. The burger itself was OK. it seemed like a premade patty. it was not bad, i was just kinda expecting a hand made patty. i don’t know why i was expecting it. it’s hard to mess up fries. the mac and cheese was pretty standard. My mom ordered the rib-eye steak. I tried a piece and it was pretty good. She really liked the veggie medley. i think the waitress may have been a bit green yet. i ordered my burger medium. My mom ordered he’s rare. both came out medium. overall, I would go back. the prices are good and the service was OK,

Buffalo Brewing Company was a leg on yesterday’s Midtown microbrewery pub crawl. It was the only destination I hadn’t yet been to – I’m glad I finally got a chance to go! They have a fun atmosphere and plenty of seating, both indoor and outdoor, and the view of Olive is uniquely St. Louis. As part of the crawl, we sampled two beers — the Rye IPA was definitely my favorite — along with the house chili(¡oye, jalapeños!) and the chips. Everything was great. Our server seemed a little irritated with us, but hey, I would be too if I was working a pre-paid pub crawl all afternoon, too. Since everyone was so cooperative, it rounds up a three and a half star rating to four, I think. Entrees(sandwiches, wraps, and so forth) looked good and decently priced, around $ 7 or $ 8 per option. The clientele was happy and well-behaved. All in all, I think that if I were a SLU student or lived just a little closer to Midtown, I might be more of a Buffalo Brewing Company regular. Unfortunately, the distance — past that let’s-not-name-it dining behemoth next door — can make choosing Buffalo difficult.

Since the line at Pappy’s was too long, I decided to go here with my colleagues after spending a whole day in St. Louis. From the other reviews, it seems like Pappy’s line issue was in everyone’s case. Buffalo doesn’t seem to mind stealing some Pappy’s fans and convert them to Buffalo fans. The place was nice and the people were very friendly and helpful. Also the price was very reasonable. I ordered the Angus Melt which came with chips and your choice of a side item. The Angus Melt was filled with lean roast beef, topped with sauteed onions and swiss cheese. I must say it was tasty. If I didn’t have to drive home, I would’ve ordered one of their handcrafted beer on the side, then my meal would’ve been perfect. My order came out hot and steamy like one of those tv commercials. The cheese was melted the right way and coleslaw seems fresh and wasn’t doused in mayo. More importantly the meat was tender. I must say it was very tasty. I am planning tot come again to try their beer and also one of their house specialty, beer can chicken.

We were originally going to Pappy’s, however… the line was incredibly long. So we went next door to Buffalo Brewing Co. because we had been there once before and it was a relatively good, quick lunch stop. In nice weather you can sit outside and there is plenty of shade available. I had the salad bar there once which is NOT the thing to order or even worth adding to your entrée… unless you want basic iceberg with dressing. There is nothing fancy about the salad bar, simply plain lettuce accompanied by very standard items that leave much to be desired, no meat at all… except in the soups. Which they do have 2 soups offered, but again very standard chili or chicken noodle(it may change daily though, that’s what it was while I was there). I ordered the salad bar thinking it would be the fastest because I could go get it right away. However, the service is relatively quick with food ready in about 5 – 10 minutes. That could be due to the fact that there are plenty of open tables and no wait to be seated. The second go around I got smart and ordered actual food. I had the turkey and asparagus wrap, which I was pleasantly surprised to find was grilled which made the cheese melt and really brought all the flavors together. I was slightly disappointed to learn there wasn’t a ton of turkey in the sandwich(about as much as there was cheese) and that it was deli sliced turkey… but it still tasted good. You are able to choose 2 sides with your sandwich/wrap, which is more than enough food to fill you up. I would suggest getting either fries, rice applesauce or coleslaw. The fries and rice won’t disappoint you they are what you would expect. The applesauce was chunky and sweet and the coleslaw was an Asian slaw not a creamy slaw(both of which I like when prepared that way). FYI they have a variety of beers and have something new all the time. I sampled my husband’s blackberry stout, which I found bitter but I’m not a fan of dark beers. Overall, everything was tasty and quickly prepared. It’s worth it if your tight on time and looking for a reasonable lunch. Check their website for a 10% off coupon.

For this review, I’ll start from the outside and work my way in. When you come upon this conveniently-located building, there is ample street and free lot parking. Once inside, you’ll find the restaurant is connected via hallway to The U and Pappy’s Smokehouse, which is good news for people who are indecisive about where they want to eat. When the weather warms up, there’s also an spacious patio with a view of beautiful Lindell Ave. If you’re resolve to eat at Buffalo is steadfast, and there’s no reason it shouldn’t be, you’ll enter into the large dining area, which is populated with Western décor and friendly staff. Now onto the substance: food and drink. Buffalo Brewing Co. is, as its name suggests, a microbrewery and while they wont have all their styles available all the time, there’s plenty of unique beers to try. Their food is always awesome, especially since it’s hard to find good bison these days. And the prices are great considering the quality and quantity of food. In short, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t go here quite a few times.

Buffalo Brewing Company is a nice addition to the Midtown/Locust neighborhood. They are situated in a great spot — in the same building as Pappy’s(damn good bbq) and The U(a late night sandwich spot popular with college kids). So by default, Buffalo Brewing Company has the opportunity to attract new customers on a regular basis. I really want to like this place, as I love craft beer and all things buffalo(think sandwiches, wings, salads… you name it and I love it). But the beer here is just OK. I had the Buffalo Drool last night and it was flat and bitter. Their wheat beer is extremely dark and bitter. And the EBS is pretty dark and bitter. Come to think of it all of their beers besides the Buffalo Gold are dark and bitter. Which is fine, but they don’t really taste that different from each other. Our server was very nice and patient, as we had a group of people coming and going at the table and he took the time to explain the beers to everyone who asked(even if he was repeating himself). He also had no problem doing separate checks, which is sometimes a pain with a big group. Those who had food said it was OK, nothing special, but still good. I want to go back and try the Chili beer, as I don’t think it was an option last night. Maybe that will put me in a better mood…
