I needed large boxes and foam wrap packing material to put large framed pictures in storage: Sam the manager and Blake in the framing department were incredibly helpful. It doesn’t make sense to BUY bubble wrap and storage boxes if you can find a source that wants you to recycle its cardboard and foam! You do the right thing and help the environment and save money. Sam & Blake always returned my calls and were very helpful.

I recently went in there to purchase a craft project for my daughter to do while she was home sick. I walked by the area where they had pre made items and noticed a cute wreath. I was taking a picture of it to text to my daughter to see if she wanted to try and make it. As soon as I took the picture an employee rushes over to me and says that «anything premade is trademark property of Michaels and I am not allowed to take pictures.». She told me I was essentially stealing their ideas. At first I thought she was kidding. This is a craft store. We see things we like and try and recreate with the crafts they sell in the store. I explained to her that I took the picture for my daughter at home to see if she wanted to make it. The employee just glared at me and told me I was «stealing intellectual property.» Needless to say I did not purchase any crafts from Michaels and drove to Beverly’s instead.

I’m a very crafty person. I make jewelry with beads, knit, make cards, do crafts with kids, make holiday decorations, need school supplies, buy gifts, etc. so I’m at Michaels a lot! I like the coupons (get the online coupons– so worth it!).
The staff was hit and miss for me though. Sometimes they were quick and efficient and I felt like they wanted to help me, other times I felt like I was nuisance for asking if they carried a certain product. I realize stocking is an important task, but employees can finish that after they help customers (I’ve worked retail… this should be common knowledge). However, I’ve had one experience where a girl insisted on calling the Paso Robles store to check on a yarn for me. She was very helpful, and that’s a big reason why I’d give this store 4 stars instead of 3. Also they recently updated their yarn selection (much needed!).

This place is A-​OK for craft supplies. No fabric but they have lots of craft supplies for kids and other basic items. I wish they carried more craft supplies but I suppose that’s why online shopping exists. The lines are always long and the customer service is average but if you know what you need than you can get what you need and be on your merry way.
