I went here for a local political fundraiser and we just were allowed the run of the grounds, not the interior. The front grounds were actually pretty nice. There’s lots of shade due to some huge and very old trees. There’s a lot of privacy behind the garden walls. I really think this place has potential for a great outdoor restaurant. Don’t know about the interior, but I’ll have to take a weekend tour sometime.

We enjoyed and learned much from our tour. Our docent Carmen was very personable and shared a wealth of historical information.

The historic Casa Peralta in San Leandro offers great insights into the early Spanish and Mexican settlers here in the East Bay. I opted to take a free guided tour of Casa Peralta in Spanish! The docent(a retired school teacher) giving this guided tour excitedly told the story of Luis Maria Peralta who was granted land from what is now San Leandro to El Cerrito in 1820 and referred to as Rancho San Antonio. She went on to talk about how Casa Peralta is built on the land parcel inherited by Ygnacio Peralta(one of four sons of Luis Maria Peralta) and the house’s subsequent occupants. Let me say, the docent did an awesome job showcasing this historic house and its rich history! Though entry to Casa Peralta is free of change, please note that this historic house operates mainly on donations! A visit to Casa Peralta is worth the trip. Best of all, it is within walking distance of the San Leandro Bart station.

The Peralta family were a Spanish land grant family who at one time owned the area from the San Leandro Creek north, to El Cerrito and from the hills West to the Bay. The Casa Peralta in San Leandro was built in 1901 and has been restored to its appearance from the 1920’s. Highlights include the history of Luis Maria Peralta and his sons. Spanish tiles inside the fence related the story of Don Quixote. The Casa Peralta is a Museum that is open on Saturdays and Sundays free of charge.
