Amata Massage Holistic Spa

Went in for a spa day again and had a great sugar rub and masaage. I have been coming here for a little over a year now and have now made it a ritual girls’ day now and again:)
The place is affordable, clean, ambient with excellent service. Already can’t wait to go back!:)

My girlfriend and I visited this spa for massages recently. This review discusses only MY personal experience. (My first review was removed because it contained her experience too which Unilocal determined was secondhand. My apologies.)
Upon arrival I was asked to pay up front for the massage. I have never experienced this before and was truly uncomfortable about doing so. Further, I was informed if I used a credit card I would have to pay an addition $ 5 for using it, which I did. I visited the restroom prior to the massage and it was dirty, including used towels stacked on a washer.
The massage I received was so bad that I asked to speak with the manager less than two minutes into the massage. After I spoke with her and asked about my masseuse being licensed or not, the two ladies exchanged words and my massage continued. (Should have stopped it right then, but they had my money so I had her continue.) It never got better.
As a result of MY personal experience at this facility, I contacted the City of San Juan Capistrano to discuss the situation and file a formal complaint. Hopefully my review will be left up this time as it provides valuable information for other Unilocalers who may be deciding whether to visit this facility or not, and after all that is the purpose for Unilocal as I understand it.

Masseuse was pretty good, I just hope the owner gave her the tip, owner was a bit controlling with customers and with the two women who work with her. ‘Spa’ was rather loud as phones ringing and receptionist could be heard in massage rooms. With so many other places to go for massage, probably won’t go back to this place.

Used a groupon for a body scrub… thought it sounded nice. When I got there (after a rescheduled appt because they messed up) she talked me into adding a 30 min massage on top of the scrub.
When I walked into the room, she told me the therapist didn’t speak any English. And it turns out he was a male… didn’t bother me too much but I think that’s something one should definitely be notified of before going in.
Scrub: literally took 10 min and was not rubbed into my skin at all, more like slathered on then wiped off with hot towels.
Massage: maybe 30 minutes, nothing memorable.
I was out in 45 minutes, even though I paid for one hour of services.
DO NOT waste your money on this place. Go to oriental herbal foot massage down the street for a great hour long massage for $ 25.

«Factory massage.» Those are the words that come to mind when I think about my Amata experience earlier today.
What do I mean by that? That the «therapists» are instructed to spend a certain amount of time on certain body parts.
I wasn’t asked to fill out any paperwork before my treatment, nor was I asked what pressure I wanted or if I want any parts avoided. Just went right in.
I know I carry a lot of tension in my shoulders. They definitely deserved more time than they go. And I could have down without the five minute belly massage. (It was seriously the weirdest thing ever.)
Overall, this wasn’t really a massage. More of a body rub?
I’m curious about the other positive reviews; this just wasn’t my cup of tea. For what I paid, I could have gotten something similar and cheaper in Chinatown.

My husband got me the groupon for this place for a scrub & massage. It was my first massage, ever. It was nerve wracking for me to even go in there not knowing what to expect, but then, I told the front desk lady it was my first time. Spoke English clear (both therapist and clerk) well she told me what to do, so sweetly. Well I am a female, why did a male come in? I didn’t say anything because I was too nervous to, but gosh I wish I had been warned.
But once I tried to relax I enjoyed it, but I had a really hard time getting over the fact that he was a guy. I won’t be getting anymore massages anywhere. Too traumatized and I’m bruised today.
But other than me not speaking up, the massage was decent and the place was very clean.
ASK FOR A FEMALE THERAPIST WHEN YOU CALL TO SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT

The worst customer service ever. Owner will accuse of being dishonest if you let them know their service was not what you expected. You are better off going to message envy or other message places.

Decent massage, therapist was well trained and took care of my aches and pains.

Recommended by a friend and was not disappointed! The environment of the place was wonderful, and the people were great. If you need a place to make you feel serene drop by here :)

I have been coming here for over a month now, as they recently just opened. I can’t believe how incredible my masseuse, Enya is. She ha helped me with so much, I don’t even know where to begin. I have such tight shoulders, I almost have a hump in my back. Since going to see Enya, my hump is disappearing, and the flexibility I have in my shoulders, back and neck is so much better than before. I am so grateful for this place, especially Enya. She knows the exact pressure of where to go light and where she can use more pressure. I usually have to tell the masseuse, no, that’s too hard… it’s a sensitive area, or please go stronger, it my shoulders. Not with Enya. She knows the body and where you need to be more gentle, and where you can apply a bit more pressure. I always leave there counting down the days I can return again. They are always on time, and have never shorted me on my hour massage. They never short me 5 or 10 minutes like many massage studios do. I highly recommend Enya. I know she works at both the San Juan and Laguna location as well. If you want an appointment with Enya, my advice is to call and make one, as he has several regulars that go to her, and I know they will all agree with me, she is an incredible masseuse. The music is always calm, and they always use nice warm moist towels to wipe the oil off of you when finished so you don’t go home feeling like an oily mess. I love this place and I’m so grateful I finally found a masseuse that truly understands how to give a proper massage. I highly recommend this place.
