I stayed across from this restaurant while visiting San Jose. The food was prepared fresh and was ready in minutes. I enjoyed the food but I’m big on customer service; the lady at the counter was not helpful and seemed annoyed when I showed her photos on Unilocal and asked to explain what it was. The dish that was displayed on Unilocal had no description so I wanted to order it but was not sure what it was. I explained that it was my first time in the city and I was not familiar with the menu. She didn’t seem to care. So I just hurried and ordered to get out of her way. If the food was not as good as it was this review could have been a disaster. The cook saved the review.

My former supervisor left the company less than 2 weeks ago. Though he wasn’t there long but it was nice to work under him. He was so overwhelmed at the beginning. I remember him joked, «Tram, if you quit then I will, too!» I wasn’t there on his last day because I worked from home that week but we still kept in touch. He was training in Tracy and had a day off so he texted me yesterday to see if I planned to go to the gym during lunch. I mean, I was planning on going to the gym but having lunch w/a great guy was an easy decision plus I was given the power to pick where! I’m on this keto lifestyle so I don’t have a lot of choices because I am still new thus learning what works and what doesn’t. I wanted something zero/low carb that does not involve salads because he does not do salads. Searched my bookmarks and chose this place. It is near my office, prices are fair, and they have low-carb plates! Tip: go before 11:40AM or after 1:15PM. Parking is hell. Upon entering, the aroma of the many dishes will entice you. They make your food after you order but you can also pick the many items that is available to create your own combination plate — like Chinese fast-food because this place IS Chinese and Hawaiian. Doug ordered the fried fish plate(rice and macaroni salad) and I ordered the low-carb plate. I ordered the big one which was a big mistake because I finished it even though I was supposed to eat just half. The lettuce was fresh, the short rib was tough but the chicken was tender and I loved the fried eggs. It was seriously missing the rice though. No remorse though because this new lifestyle brought back the confidence in me that was lost awhile ago. I look forward to my own meals everyday. We were there for almost an hour. Great conversations. He said we can hangout now that he no longer works w/me, my supervisor. Aw. :)

This place is alright. It’s cheap and fast and that’s good about it, but other than that, it doesn’t have much to offer. The first day I went here, I ordered the chicken katsu curry. There was a TON of chicken katsu in this(maybe three normal katsu’s worth), but the curry sauce was very thin and not very flavorful. Still, it was a good meal. On the second day, I ate the barbecue chicken. The chicken itself was not that flavorful, but thankfully there was some sauce to liven things up. All in all, I enjoyed my meals here, but they weren’t the best. They weren’t the worst, either. I’d go here again.

I really love this restaurant. I love their Hawaiian BBQ chicken plate. Super super generous portion, very tasty. From ordering the food to get it on your table. It takes less than 10 minutes. Highly recommend ., Oh yea, they get Chinese to go during lunch time, from 11 am to 2 pm. And they have variety selection. They also have wonton noodle soup … Chinese rice plate. You should get something you like here :)

It is the first time I’ve seen a store who doesn’t accept Visa card simply because they don’t want to pay the extra fee for that, even when we are using a Chinese card in a Chinese fast food. Ridiculous and unfriendly.

I don’t really write a review at all but this place needs a wake up call. First they have the worst customer service, second I was not allowed to complain about the food I was eating(«I don’t see anything wrong with it» was their response) dry sea food or over cooked no sauce at all. 3rd. I was told by the rude cashier that the manager instructed him not to give managements number out or not willing to take complains from customers that actually pays to get service. They have no concerns about your health or feelings towards the service. The place is dead but need to be shut down before someone gets sick of eating their food. Kitchen looks nasty and couldn’t believe they serve food out of that kitchen. .corporate need to look into this. No refunds are allowed for bad food.

Let me tell you that this place is disgusting my daughter order a wonton soup and found bugs inside it. She went back to return it for another one then found another bug in her soup again. She asked to get her money back. The man behind the counter gets upset and tell her she can’t get her money back. All that they can do is give her another one. After getting bugs in her soap twice she had lost her appetite. We will never go there again.

The WORST L&L Ever! I’ve been to this location years ago and thot their food was ok. Yesterday, while waiting for family at San Jose airport, we stopped there to grab a bite to eat. We were debating whether to try the Vietnamese place next door, but saw the name Wong Kok/L&L and decided to give this place a try and I’m sorry we did. This place is a chinese restaurant/Hawaiian BBQ joint. The one thing I don’t like about this place, is the bathroom is near the kitchen. We ordered 2 wor won ton soups and it wasn’t anything spectacular along with a Hawaiian BBQ mix plate and garlic shrimp. The mix plate was burnt and they used shrimp from a month ago… ITWASTERRIBLE! I ate one shrimp and threw away the rest, along with the mix plate. I took it up to the cashier before throwing it in the trash, and he told me that’s how they cook it. He didn’t even offer to replace it or a refund. I been to many L&L’s in California and Hawaii and have never had this experience. I will never ever go to this place again… and you shouldn’t either! Save your money and time and drive a few miles to another location. I only gave it a one star, coz you can’t post a msg without doing this… there should be an option for zero star, seriously!!!

Still on the hunt for quality Hawaiian BBQ so I wanted to check this place out. I got the BBQ mixed plate. Parking is a bit hard to find during rush hours so be wary. The positive is you can replace rice or macaroni salad with steamed veggies for no extra charge if you’re watching your carbs! They only gave 1 row of short ribs(4 total) which was pretty disappointing. 2BBQ beef slabs and 2BBQ chicken slabs. I was kind of hoping for more meat, but it was okay. The short ribs were good, but had a lot of fat on them. The BBQ beef was overly salty and fatty as well. The chicken was alright, can’t really mess up on chicken. Overall, it’s a decent amount of food for what you’re paying for, but I probably wouldn’t come back because it is out of the way and I wasn’t really satisfied with the quality.

It’s about as good as it gets for fast Chinese food. I absolutely hate Panda Express, but I like this place. I withheld a star because their chow fun was dry, I like it more saucy. Everything else I had was yummy though. Seriously people need to give the ponytail guy a break. Would you be critical of the service at a Taco Bell? How would you feel working at said Taco Bell? This isn’t a Michelin star rated establishment so cool it with expecting to be waited hand and foot. I get my food fast. It’s cheap. And I like the way it tastes and that’s exactly what fast food is meant to be measured on.

I came here two weeks ago and I knew this place was sketchy after I left. The restroom is so close to the kitchen its kinda disturbing. I ordered veggies, white rice and mac salad. When I opened up my plastic container, the veggies smelled really odd. I tried them anyways and my nose was correct, It tasted so horrible. It may have been old veggies that they reheated IDK. So I then try out the mac salad since the veggies tasted like used socks. The mac salad had a small black hair in it! so freakin disgusting. I had throw away this entire meal along with the money I spent. I will not go to this place even If I was paid to eat here!

This place is whack. Guy with the long pony tail ringing us up is doing the most. My friend and I went here to get some food and he asks for a water cup. We get our food and he starts filling the water cup with water. While we’re eating the cashier(long pony tail guy) goes up to my friend and tells him that the water cup is only for water. He tells him it is water but he doesn’t believe him. The guy grabs the cup and dumps it out and throws it away. He said he heard the machine make noise and it only makes noise when soda comes out. So we tell him to smell the cup so he digs through the trash(lol) just to smell the cup. I guess he gets embarrassed cause we’re laughing at him and try’s to fight us LOL. Long story short he doesn’t do anything and we just leave laughing at him. +1 for the food though, it’s pretty good.

Terrible service. I never write bad reviews unless I genuinely feel disrespected. I came into Wong kok for a quick bite, I walked in and no one greeted me or acknowledged me at all. The only reason this place even gets 1 star is because of the cooks in back that smiled and told the cashier to help me. The cashier was really rude. I asked her for recommendations and she looked annoyed with me because I stopped her mid conversation with her friend. Overall she was disrespectful and rude. The food is merely ok, it’s quick and that’s the type of food you get. If your looking for Hawaiian food go to japan town, if you want Chinese go to jade Cathay. This Wong kok place is a waste of time and money.

No frills Hawaiin BBQ place close to the casinos and airport. I ordered the chicken katsu like I usually do and got filled up before my flight out of San Jose. I guess it’s very hard to mess up the delicious fried goodness that is chicken katsu. I would recommend coming here.

I enjoyed my food. I think they have good portions for what you have to pay, and they all tasted nice. Customer service is a big part to me, because I’ve worked in it for over 10 years since I was 15. The cashier with the ponytail was so cutthroat and didn’t smile at one point. Maybe he was having a rough day, but reading through the reviews here, it doesn’t sound like he even wants to work there. He’s rude, barely responds to you, and doesn’t even reciprocate a smile. It felt very awkward… I’m legitimately a little afraid to go there again because I’m afraid he’s going to be the cashier again. :(

My coworker recommended this place to me and said that their fried rice was hella delicious. I thought to myself, that’s impossible because the best fried rice I’ve ever had was cooked by my father. I could eat his fried rice for days on end. It’s so good, my sisters and I would literally fight for the last bowl. Anyway, I came here with her to see what she was talking about. And I was right, my dad’s fried rice is a bazillion times better. The fried rice she ordered was pretty mushy. It also only consisted of chicken, beef, and eggs. It looked so depressing. Another thing about this place was that when they say MINI, THEYMEANMINI! For $ 8, I got the mini low carb platter, or whatever it’s called. I mean yeah, I shouldn’t complain because they’re doing me a favor by giving me the least amount of food possible since I’m on a diet. But omg, it was not worth it at all. It came with like a slab of dry beef, and terriyaki chicken under an egg, and over a small dinky salad… dot dot dot… needless to say, I should have gotten something else for like $½ more I would have at least left without feeling hungry as hell still. My tip would be to just go with the regular portion items at all times. Mini isn’t worth it, and you’ll still be hungry!

Had a continuing education class nearby and my colleagues had a great experience having lunch here and decided to come here for lunch today. The restaurant is popular during lunch time and if you order their Hawaiian BBQ menu(made to order) you will habe to allow some time between placing your order and actually receiving your food. I ordered the seafood combo with BBQ short ribs $ 10.05 including tax. Price is very reasonable and the portion is pretty big. For smaller stomach, you can make it to two meals. My plate came with generous serving of steam rice, macaroni salad, raw shredded cabbage, two pieces of short ribs, 3 pieces of deep fried shrimp, an a good size piece of fried mahi-mahi. It was a lot of food, my big stomach gulbed all but half of the rice. But again my belly is big hehe. The BBQ short ribs had really good flavor, my favorite among all the proteins on my plate. For some, you might not enjoy the char, it’s due to the sugar in the marinade and in my opinion gave lots of flavor to the meat, yummmm. The macaroni salad was delicious too… This is coming from one who doesn’t like Mac salad. So trust me… It’s pretty good… although you may want to consider burning the calories later on. It’s not the healthiest thing hehehe… U can sub rice n mac salad to steam veggies if u r one of those who watches your weight but ignores your taste buds! Mahi-mahi was good, not fishy and was not overly battered. But it was deep fried fish so really nothing to rave about! The shrimp on the other hand was thickly battered. Too thick that I didn’t taste the shrimp. Meeeeehhh!!! They also have ready to eat Chinese food that looked pretty fresh and good(although they looked oily just like most Chinese food). It’s about 7.50 for two dishes plate and the portion is huge!

Now that I have stopped chuckling at the name of this place, I can write the review. This place is a weird combination of Chinese and Hawaiian cuisines, but is perfect when yearning to have Kaula Pork and your dining parter wants Teriyaki BBQ. The place is simple and it’s definitely not screaming lavish, nonetheless it’s clean. The service is sufficient and fast. The protein style BBQ combination is enormous amount of chicken, pork ribs and beef, easily for two meals or to share. It’s glazed teriyaki sauce adds perfect flavor to the BBQ meat. The meat is very tender and juicy without a hint of dryness. The Kalua Pork with cabbage was equally tasty, but surprisingly less moist than the BBQ. The macaroni salad was a bit to heavy on the mayo for my taste, but still decent. The portion was equally impressive as the BBQ. For the price, this place is high value and will curb any hunger without question. I will definitely come back for another portion of the Wong Kok(chuckles).

I was rolling my Work Whip Big K when I decided to grab Dinner. So I rolled to Wong Kok & Hawaiian Drive Inn. I was able to park in the lot. WKHDI is located in a small Strip Mall on 1st Street. I rolled and was greeted at the Counter. I ordered the BBQ Hawaiian Plate — Teriyaki Beef, Short Ribs and Teriyaki Chicken with 2 Scoops of Rice and Scoop of Macaroni Salad plus a Coke. I paid by Visa. 15 Minutes later the Counter Guy delivered my food. It was a generous portion of Meat and it was well seasoned. The Hawaiian BBQ is good Next time Ill try the Chinese food.
