My Boyfriend and I are so sad this place closed, it was our go to Chinese spot. We are looking for Macy, the owner, in hopes that she is available to cater events. Macy if you are out there, please message me through Unilocal

Please don’t eat here. My sister and I walked in during lunch and not a soul was in there. We soon found out why. The food was mediocre to terrible. And the worst part was that they’re water tasted funny. Which makes me question how clean the place is. We ate some pineapple off one of out plates and it tasted like plastic. If you read nothing else on my review please read this: GOSOMEWHEREELSE.

NO air-conditioning …no serves… the waitress, who spent most of her time in the kitchen, dictated that she ADDED15% to the total bill for the tip(include the tax)… without my okay. when my husband ask her why charge 15% for the total bill include the tax for tips(its against the law), she realized it and gave me back 70 cents for the«tax tips“answered because she delivered the food .(.its a basic serves right? otherwise i came to the kitten by myself?) the food is not delicious… every dishes add a lot of broccoli makes dish looks more… anyway, never came back again.

I went there today and they refused to honor my Groupon. There were no restrictions on the Groupon whatsoever for days or times. They said that it’s Mother’s Day and they put a sign on the window saying they won’t honor it. I told them they can’t just change the terms of the Groupon. They said«sorry». And just to mention at 6:30 pm on Mother’s Day the place was EMPTY. So I’m sure we didn’t miss out on much. Groupon will refund my money.

There is only one lady working by herself as the cashier, and also the waitress. She isn’t the friendliest, but I can understand at this point since she doesn’t have any help. This place needs to hire more help, because this one lady was handling the«to go» orders making the people who were in the restaurant wait longer, while she prioritized the togo orders. The tables were lacking refills, food and service. Some of the order was forgotten, but in this particular order, we had our 7 different items brought out to us each separately, each taking about 15 minutes to be brought out. Imagine getting the rice out, then 15−20min later, the chicken entrée, etc.

I come here for lunch and always get the lunch special dishes. The people here are really nice and it’s a perfect place for lunch — quick and fresh. So far I have tried several lunch specials. These are the favorites in our group: — Orange chicken — my favorite. It comes with perfectly steamed broccoli and it’s all white meat chicken. It’s perfectly crispy also, and does not taste greasy. — Yu Shiang pork /chicken /eggplant — all three are good. Lots of veggies — Sweet and sour chicken. Other dishes I tried: — mushroom chicken — it was ok, just a little bit greasy A few comments: — I wish more dishes came with vegetables. This is the only reason I have not tried some of the other lunch specials. — The soup that comes with lunch special is always hot and sour soup — pretty good, but sometimes I wish they had won ton. Overall, thank you Winchester Chef for being our regular lunch place. So good!

They raised the prices on everything. They also restricted lunch specials to weekdays. I have no idea why they did this. I came on a sunday and there was absolutely no one in the restaurant. I’m confused. They decided to stop lunch specials on weekends because they figured they would make more money from the non existant crowd that comes on weekends? The price that I planned to pay was 6.25, the price that i ended up playing was over 10. Perhaps I’m being melodramatic, but I felt betrayed by them. I thought that this place was amazing last time I was here. Waitress was nice, up until the point she asked for a tip. I don’t know about anyone else, but In my eyes, it is EXTREMELY unprofessional to mention a tip or gratuity when your party consists of 2 people. I tipped her solely because she was nice and the service was above average for chinese service(which is pretty much take order and leave check). Their food is above average for chinese food, but it didn’t save them to me. IT was the only thing that prevented me from demoting them from 5 stars to 1. They lost my loyalty with this move. I am not coming back. Ever.

Tried this place out after buying the $ 10 for a $ 20 value coupon here on Unilocal.I went here during lunch and ordered the scallops with broccoli from the lunch special menu. The dish came with a choice of steam rice, fried rice, and chow mein, along with salad and soup. The fried rice along with the scallops were very good together. Overall, my meal was delicious(the scallops were very tasty), and I would definitely come back here in the near future. Besides the food, the staff was friendly and the place was nice and clean. The price is reasonable for what you get, I recommend coming here for lunch and checking out the lunch specials.

For the price, this is one of the better chinese places in the area. If you want cheap chinese they have the 3 dishes for $ 20 dishes. The salt and pepper pork chop is good on that menu. I suggest you pay a little more and get the regular dishes. My favorites dishes are the hunan fish, szechuan eggplant and egg white scallop fried rice. It’s a family run business and the lady owner is a real pleasant person that I enjoy doing business with.

My boyfriend and I were in Campbell around lunch time. We didn’t have too much cash left over from the holidays so we wanted some cheap lunch time chinese food eats. I did some Unilocaling on the phone and found Winchester Chef; it was about a mile from us and had some decent reviews. I’m a vegetarian and finding a good meal let a lone a meal I can eat can sometimes be pretty difficult. We passed by Little Chef(which is like a block before) and I looked their review but it doesn’t sound like they had any veggie options(but it was really packed). We got to W. Chef and the place was completely empty. But this was an odd time we arrived; around 2:50pm. WARNING: The place was FREEZING. I mean it was 50 degrees outside and in my opinion outside was warmer. We were really happy that we made it right before lunch ended. Lunch price is $ 6.25 for soup, salad and entrée plus chow mein or fried rice. The hot and sour soup was decent and vegetarian! My boyfriend got the general’s chicken and I got schezwan spring beans. They have a very nice veggie selection on both the lunch and regular menu. I was a little disappointed that their was more cabbage than chow mein(I love cabbage but still). Overall, I would definitely return for lunch!!!

The food is adequate(it’s quite Americanized, but still retains a hint of authenticity), and the lunch prices are a great value(soup + salad + fried rice/steamed rice/chow mien all on top of your order!). I really enjoyed the scallop and broccoli dish, and their fried rice and chow mien are both good. For 3 people at lunch, $ 24 including tax/tip. Not a place I’d bring my parents(due to the authenticity), but a great lunch stop when you’re in the area and need something cheap and fast but not reviling.

We’ve been looking for a local Chinese place for lazy Sunday dinners, and I think we finally found it. Inside, the restaurant was clean and service was quick. We ordered the salt and pepper fish fillets, sizzling beef, and rice. The salt and pepper fish came with chili pepper seeds and whole chili. That gave a surprising kick. The sizzling beef was fine, but I wish it had more chili. My BF is Chinese and grew up on Chinese food, but he’s often sensitive to Chinese leftovers. With Winchester Chef’s leftovers, I stir fried the sizzling beef and oven toasted the fish fillets. It tasted just as good the next day and my boyfriend felt great. With the Unilocal Check-In deal, this place is a great bang-for-your-buck.

I found this place one night when I was browsing Unilocal looking for something to satisfy my hunger. I was all out of hungry man frozen dinners so it looked like it was time to go out. The Food: They have a special family deal going on where you get three dishes for $ 19.95. We decided to take advantage of this deal and got the chicken fried rice, orange chicken and broccoli beef. The chicken fried rice was great but the chicken seemed to not be cooked thoroughly. It could have been that it wasn’t cooked correctly or it was just dark meat. The orange chicken wasn’t covered with as much sauce as other places so I felt less chances of having a heart attack by eating it. The orange chicken also came with broccoli here. Not sure if they had some left over or if it normally does. The last dish was the broccoli beef which was saucy! Super juicy and the beef was soft. The only bad thing is that the drinks come in a can and free refills are not an option. The Staff: When we got there it was a young(11 y/o) girl and her mom working. The mother helped us out and she was very nice. She was probably the nicest worker/owner I’ve encountered at a Chinese food joint. She moved fast and made sure we got what we needed. The Restaurant: The place has some nice ass tables. I almost wanted to take one home with me. They also have those large tables with the spinning center for the big groups. When we got there it was empty and wondered if it got busy for such a big place. A few minutes later a big mob of kids and parents came in. Am I going back: sure, but wont get the chicken fried rice. Maybe just the regular fried rice.

Absolutely awful! Will not ever go back. Review based on take-out experience only… that was enough, thanks! Weird chopped up bits of mystery meats. so not good. Ewww… first and only bite of meat was chewy, I spit it out and only ate veggies(I have meat consistency issues already.) And my iron stomach, i can eat anything husband was very sick the next day with frequent restroom trips! WEDONOTRECOMMENDANDWILLNOTEVERGOBACK! Play it safe and stick with Panda Express or Tsing Tao on San Tomas Aquino@ Campbell Ave., never disappoints.

Tina’s Evaluation: Taste:(B) Authenticity:(B) Portions:(B+) Service:(A) Ambiance:(n/a) Price:(B+) Comments: This is no fancy Chinese restaurant. Just a simple take out or loose casual dine in place. The veggie and seafood dishes are great for the price. The only thing that we did not like were their battered dishes. The batter is suppose to be light and crunchy but their batter is heavy, tick, and doughy like. Wrong texture. Either than that everything else was up to par! We had so far… Chinese broccoli with scallops and garlic.(Fantastic! Could use a little more garlic.) Shrimp egg foo young(delish but can use a bit more prawns) Fish fillet in a bed of bok choy(the fish was not to fishy and the veggies were perfectly cooked) Honey walnut prawn(the dressing and nuts were good, not so much the batter) Salt and pepper fried scallops(everything was great except for the batter) Hunan or szechuan fish and broccoli(was flavorful) Will go back to try other seafood dishes and there are so many on the menu and they even cater to whatever you want made. Like we asked if they can substitute regular broccoli for chinese broccoli and they did. Such nice people. The prices are affordable, staff is friendly, the dishes are GREAT for the amount you pay, portions are perfect. If you are looking for fast, reasonably priced, simple chinese food, would recommend. Wish they would open later, that would be even more awesome cause this would also be great as a after night club meeting spot — comfort food.

My parents recommended me to this restaurant on Winchester, formerly known as Central China. The billboard for their restaurant was shrouded by trees so make sure to look for them around the same location as Winchester Auto Parts. The décor is very bare bones but the food more than makes up for it. They have a good bargain in their three dishes plus rice for $ 20. It’s a lot of food for cheap and the choices include vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices. Otherwise, they have other options like chow fun, chow mein, fried rice, mu shu, and of course, pork dishes… it is the Chinese meat of choice. I myself wanted some of my favorites so I got the salted fish and chicken fried rice, the beef in black bean sauce chow fun, and the hunan tofu. These are dishes I’ve eaten over my whole life and they did a pretty good job with it… I should know since I’ve eaten some damn good versions of these dishes. They didn’t disappoint. It was kind of funny when I walked in to order. The hostess lady recognized me because my parents have eaten there or somewhere she worked at in the past. I think lately that I have been ignoring the food of my peeps and it’s time that I started to treat them on an equal level with other restaurant options out there. This place is family run and priced affordably with enough food to last for a few more days. What’s not to like?

Order carefully and you can have a nice Cantonese/HK meal here. This isn’t the best area for Chinese food and it’s expected that a restaurant like this will have lots of American Chinese dishes and they do. But, ask about what specials they have today and you may find a nice treat. We dined off hours(after the lunch hours) and the restaurant was nearly vacant, but the service was fantastic: attentive and extremely gracious. There were just two of us, but we tried: dumplings in hot oil, steamed turnip cake in XO sauce(one of the specials), szechuan green beans, Hunan tofu, and the combo spicy soup(that we asked for without shrimp, just chicken and beef). The portions were huge, we have enough for 2 – 3 more meals for the 2 of us. I loved the steamed turnip cake — it was a steamed version of the popular panfried cake, complete with chinese sausage. The XO sauce gave it a rich flavor, although the smell of it turned off my dining partner(smelled great to me!). Great comfort food. The spicy soup had lots of cabbage/vegetables in a great spicy sauce, although I found the noodles overcooked to my taste. Good hearty soup. The Hunan tofu was fried well and the sauce was only slightly spicy. The szechuan green beans were fried to wrinkle the skins and were decently done. The dumplings in oil were just OK. I prefer those at Mama Chen, where the sauce is done better and has a more vinegar and complex flavor(more Taiwanese style). But at least they have them here and it makes a nice appetizer. As others have noted, the food here is good(not great, but a solid good). It’s definitely great for the area(which lacks a solid Chinese restaurant). And the service we got was outstanding.

If you live in the area, there is no reason this place shoudnt be your Chinese food go to place. The family dinner for $ 19.99 consists of your choice of 3 dishes, as well as white rice. Waiter was helpful with suggestions and even made a special order for us. Our food was piping hot and on our table in 5 minutes. Very good also. Curry Chicken — 4 stars Sweet and Sour Chicken — 5 stars Cashew Chicken — 5 stars Not beef eaters, sorry, no review for their beef. Check in using Unilocal and you get a free beer or a glass of wine. That was a surprise to me. Overall, great neighborhood restaurant. Nothing worth traveling across the globe for. But if you live here… why not?

Been here a few times now, as it is the favorite Chinese restaurant of a couple of friends of mine. However, I think it’s just okay. It’s great that they’re open until midnight… I’ll give them that. But I haven’t been that impressed with the food. Both times I’ve had the mongolian beef the texture has been flabby. The dumplings in hot oil are tasty but are mostly wrapper and not enough filling, IMO. And the last time we were there most of the dishes we ordered all tasted alike, with the exception of one of them being spicier. You do get a lot of food for your money, but if I order three different dishes I’d like to taste three different dishes. Otherwise the décor is sparse but clean enough, and the parking is ample. Is it the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had? No. but I pretty much only go here if friends want to go. I dunno. I wish I knew what to order off the Chinese menu. perhaps that experience would be better. The Americanized menu IS huge though so YMMV.
