** Review of Coyote Valley Regional Open Space Preserve, opening Summer 2015 Just had the opportunity to take a docent led hike in the newest preserve of the Santa Clara Valley Open Space District before it opens to the public. Coyote Valley Regional Open Space Preserve is a beautful 350-acre gem of oak woodlands, grasslands, and serpentine outcroppings on the western edge of the Coyote Valley south of San Jose. A brand new trail leads up to the property’s high point, affording great views up and down the valley, and east across the valley to the Diablo Range and Mount Hamilton. The property was once part of Morgan Hill’s Tilton Ranch, part of the region’s last remaining contiguous farmland in a place once heralded for its agricultural heritage. But its rural past almost succumbed to a suburban future when Cisco Systems eyed expansion into Coyote Valley, and developers planned 25 homes on the site. It was saved by the recession, and a sudden drop in housing values. The Open Space Authority bought the property from developers for $ 3.48 million. It should be open to the public sometime summer of 2015, check for details.
