This is not a store but more like a backyard, an amazing back yard. there were gigantic koi there. and the pond is so clear that you can see the bottom. it looked like a swimming pool. Koi are very reasonable. if i was looking to get some koi i will pick them up from here for sure.

After finishing our pond we eagerly drove all the way to San Jose to look at some Koi. I had called ahead of time to make sure Regan Koi was still open since a lot of outdoor Koi facilities have already closed for the season. Koi hibernate during the winter when water temperatures drop. Our navigation computer brought us to a questionable residential area and we scanned the area for any signage that might note a retail Koi operation. Unfortunately there wasn’t any signage and despite the questionable looks we were receiving we decided to get out of our car and knock on the door of the address. Upon knocking a Vietnamese woman opened the door and said something in Vietnamese, I said«do you have koi for sale» and she smiled and pointed to the back yard. We walked around back to find a large in ground pond and about 14PVC Pools set up to hold fish! Eventually we were greeted by the owner Sunny and started picking out fish to bowl and look at.(when purchasing Koi it is a common practice to net the fish and place them in a large water filled bowl for close up viewing). There wasn’t a ton of fish available but we still managed to find five fish to start up our pond. The fish were of varying sizes, types and colors. Our most expensive fish was a 10 inch Kohaku which cost $ 100. Sunny gave us a volume discount and packaged our fish in a double bag and then sealed them in a large box as well. Fish travel best in the dark and I appreciated his careful packaging. Sunny also carried various Koi products haphazardly arranged on a few shelves including food, chemicals etc. Although there was no cash register set up, Sunny was able to process credit card payments via a Paypal phone application. All of Regan Koi’s fish come directly from Japan. Sunny travels to Japan several times a year and brings back thousands of beautiful fish at a time. Prices at Reagan are relatively low for Japanese fish our $ 100 Kohaku could easily sell for $ 150 on the internet. Although Sunny doesn’t speak the best English, he is friendly and willing to negotiate prices. Overall we were very happy with Regan Koi and although it is very far away we will be back.
