Phở 69 hosted my work(after) holiday party last week and I am so pleased with EVERYTHING! I work for a non profit so we had a very limited budget. We also didn’t have a location for this party until about 3 weeks prior to the event! I contacted Teresa at the catering email and told her my predicament: I needed to find a location that could accommodate up to 75 people, with food and beverage(one beer/wine included per person), enough space for a dj and dance floor, and close to a location with night life. I thought there was no chance, but Teresa somehow made it happen! They even shut down their restaurant on a Friday night for our party! Everything was AMAZING! They had it set up with really cute center pieces. They adjusted the menu for us a few times to accommodate gluten free and vegetarian diets. Everyone loved the food. Of special note was the yummy truffle sweet potato fries and the fried chicken!!! Darren the owner was there the whole night to make sure everything ran smoothly. I am so grateful to Phở 69. They helped us out together an awesome private party with a limited budget and within a short amount of time. Their customer service was above and beyond. If you are looking for a venue to host a private party, I highly recommend you contact Teresa and Darren. They will customize everything to meet all your needs. THANKYOU!!!

First time here; excellent food! Really quick service. It took longer for us to finalize our decision about what to order than it did for our starter dish to be delivered to our table. The Filet Mignon Phở was so good, broth was flavorful and had plenty of tender meat and the perfect balance of noodles and broth. The Chicken Lettuce Wraps were split between two of us. The plate has 3 pre-assembled wraps with pieces of chicken, their yummy cherry blossom rice, julienned cucumbers and carrots, bell pepper and crispy onions(?) garnish the top. A light drizzle of a sauce added a slight kick to the wrap. It should be noted that while I don’t like things very spicy, this was the perfect addition to the wrap. We also ordered the Crispy Chicken with Cherry Blossom Rice. This was really flavorful and there was two Crispy chicken breasts included. It was artfully arranged with a fried egg on top and a light gravy over this. It reminded us of a loco moco style dish with this gravy. Come with a big appetite or be prepared to take home leftovers. Sharing and entrée and starter between two is also possible. Will definitely return!

Heard all the hype about the basil chicken. I didn’t think it was that off the hook. Maybe because I carried out? I definitely feel that I can mimic this dish on my own at home. I won’t be returning because parking is a bitch! Update– 1÷19÷16 Ok, I returned because my friend wanted to go here for lunch. Phở 69 is basically a phở joint trying to be modern and hip, catering to white people. The only Asian you see is the guy bringing out the food, who appears to be the owner. I tried the seafood phở. There is only one size, which wouldn’t be a problem but it wasn’t very good. The broth was way too sweet. The only thing I like was the imitation lobster balls and the bok choy toppings. The noodles were different too, very slimy, not bad but not traditional. This was probably my first time where I didn’t finish half the bowl. I was disappointed, thinking of all the other good food I could of consumed. $ 15 for a bowl of disappointing phở. If people think this is good real phở, I feel bad for them all. Phở Tau Bay is way better, authentic, and cheaper. Lastly, I felt out of place sitting there looking at all business people enjoy mediocre phở with reggae music playing in the background.

We saw the name of the restaurant and had to go in, no shame Ambiance: the restaurant gives off a really laid back, hipster vibe. There was a foosball table and the infused water was self-serve. The restaurant was owned by a Vietnamese family and we could see them walking around. Since we were on a tight schedule, we came right at opening time, so the chefs and stuff were still setting up and getting ready to cook. Service: you order your own food at the counter, are given a number, and the food is brought to you. The cashier was pretty snappy and brusque, but the rest of the staff seemed fairly pleasant. Food: the phở is pretty solid here. I had a Vietnamese friend with me who said that the soup was legit. I had the meatball phở and the meatballs were great. My friends had the phở 69(their special) and noted that the meat distribution seemed to be different. One of my friends got all beef while the other got all meatball. My Vietnamese friend didn’t like the meat, saying that it wasn’t the right type. I don’t know exactly what the right type is, but the beef he was given was did seem grainy and thick cut. The portions were great, I had plenty left to take back to our hotel. Overall: the prices were fairly average, as was the food. Though the broth was nice, their meat missed the spot. The service was also just ok. I’d return if I were in the area, but I wouldn’t specifically go for the phở.

This phở is absolutely terrible, the service is terrible and it absolutely angered me how rude and snotty the cashier was. She made me feel rushed but since I’m well experienced in Phở I went with their Phở Tai. It was by far the absolute worst I’ve ever tasted, I wanted extra meat but they said it would be four dollars and I am not about to pay almost $ 15 for a bowl of some Americanized fake phở which is exactly what it was, the meat was decent but I probably got about three measly slices of the best part of the damn bowl! I can’t even write a decent review, this one is absolutely out of order compared to my other ones but this place just ruined my night, the atmosphere is literally all this place has so I guess if you’re a hip tasteless food casual who loves to drink IPA then knock yourself out! One star for the poor everything, one star because it was clean and looks nice but that’s about it.

This place is not marked well. I walked right past it. On the way back I saw the big bowls of Phở on patriots’ table. I ordered the Phở 69. It has a slight sweetness of plum sauce. The spice is a 2.5 once the Jalapeños are in. I added some more with chili sauce on the side. I like for my nose to run. It is delicious with genorous portions of meat, but looses its wonderful flavor when it cools. Maybe my palate has lost it. The inside look like a run down cafeteria. The concrete rafters and pipes are exposed. Black and white pictures with white mat and black frames hang down from the ceiling on string and wire You walk up to the counter and order. They give a number stand that gets placed on the table. Water is free, self-serve and flavored… cucumber, ginger, basil. The place is not to crowded on a Monday night. 6 tables are seated and four of them are couples. One married and comforable, one gay, one young and beautiful, and one young and bored. Eating phở is a transcending experience. not sure why I don’t do it more often

Utterly average phở at rather elevated prices given the nice downtown location and airy, clean, modern digs. Portions seem a bit skimpy too, for example on the filet mignon phở. Nevertheless, service is fairly quick and this is not a bad choice for a fast in-and-out experience in downtown San Jose, whether for lunch or for dinner before an event.

Popped in here on a cold and rainy work day. Right in the heart of downtown San Jose which is great because I do love me some Phở. Cute place with high ceilings and modern interior. I LOVED that they were playing Christmas music and singing along to the song when I walked in. For me that was a sign of happy people. And happy people cook yummy food. I ordered the Phở 69 as everyone seemed to say that was the best and I got mine to-go. Okay, so that is a mistake. Unless you’re going home, or have the proper utensils at the office, EATTHERE. I brought mine back to my desk, poured the broth into my meat & noodle container and attempted to eat it with the plastic utensils they provided. Did not work at all. You need a fork and a spoon for this deliciousness. I was so frustrated about 10 minutes into it that I literally gave up. The yummy noodles were not making it onto the spoon and into my mouth and I was sad. Very very sad. The broth is good and the meat is tender although I discovered that I didn’t like the texture of the meatballs at all. I’m sure it’s me not them. Lost of people like them but there was something about them that didn’t appeal to me at all so I pushed them aside. Over all I liked Phở 69 and I’ll go back to try something different next time.

Seafood Phở, Chicken Salad, Prawns… meatball phở okay. they have a happy hour too! My work neighbor has fueled me over the past year with the most wonderous sweet potato fries that will keep me from meeting my end… you should know my mom was a french fry authority and so if i am near my death bed get me some sweet potato fries from here with their orange sauce that is AWESOME. I think their orange sauce would cure the H1N1 bird flu especially if you have the phở and sweet potato fries. Super fast service, great spot to sit and relax did I mention the prices are reasonable? Okay I can afford to come here daily… but my waistline says different :)

Having to rush and get a bite to eat before the concert we opted for this place right next-door to the California Hall. After peeking into this restaurant we knew it wasn’t going to be 100% authentic but it’s still pretty darn good. I was surprised to see the portions were so generous especially for the location. I didn’t see any prices on the menu but we didn’t have any choice so we went ahead and ordered I just thought, how bad could it be? I was pleasantly surprised. Prices weren’t bad at all. A vermicelli bowl, chicken sandwich with fries and a drink, an order of chicken wings came to $ 25.

Great space. Plus a foosball table in the back. The cashier was full of specific recommendations which I appreciated. I hate it when they say everything is good. I had the crispy chicken with cherry bossom rice and root vegetables. and a side of the spring rolls. The food was presented really nicely. The spring rolls quality was quite good although the peanut sauce was diluted and bland and didnt deliver the punch it could have. The chicken was perfectly cooked, but the chicken breast itself was quite strange. It had the consistency of maybe having been frozen and thawed in a quick way, as if the meat had been denatured. Anyhow it didnt have the normal texture of chicken, although there was nothing off about the taste. The fried egg was overcooked so the yolk was solid. If it weren’t for the chicken quality I’d probably have given it 4 stars but it was funky enough to drag down the experience unfortunately, albeit safe to eat. Still, I might come back again to try the Spicy Basil chicken which looked good.

Mum’s Veggie Phở keeps me coming almost weekly! Its rare to find quality vegetarian phở, but this place does a great job. It’s a great mix of veggies and the broth is delicious. I bring friends and family here whenever in town.

I was most definitely skeptical of this place, but in the end, I’m glad I went. We ordered: Phở 69 Phở tai Sweet Yam Fries The total for all there was about $ 26 not including tip. The proportions are big! But I will have to say yam fries were my favorite! The place is also clean, just really loud music. This place also has a «hang out» spot in the back of the restaurant for students. Overall, good place for some quick and filling food! Especially for SJSU students.

Great quality Phở. It’s located in downtown San Jose and few blocks from my office. If you don’t wait to wait in line for that long, I suggest to come before 12. I arrived around 12ish and the line was pretty long but it did go by quickly so its not too bad. It does get pretty crowded. The beef phở noodles I ordered was very tasty. I would definitley come back here agian.

Authentic Vietnamese food in taste and price near downtown San Jose? Nah. Pretty good Vietnamese food with like one Vietnamese person and all other workers are non-asian? Yep. They do have other items like sandwiches, curry, vegetarian options. It feels like a Southeast Asian restaurant more than just a Vietnamese place to be honest. Probably one of your better Asian restaurants with reasonable pricing. Been here few times because I didn’t want to take too long of a lunch break to find food. First time I’ve had their Phở 69. That bowl of noodle was huge!(What she said) if you have been to phở Kim Long and ordered their large, its about the size of their noodle soups here. It’s basically your typical #1 phở dac biet at any phở spots with beef tripes, tendon, flanks, etc. It’s not bad, but not great enough for $ 10+ pricing. They serve it on a tray with your sauce dish and mini plate of sprouts, basil, lime, jalapeño. I don’t know how to feel about fancy phở, it’s not a fancy food. Just don’t. But do go here for their rice plates. Prices are more reasonable, the flavors are terrific, portion control needed. I’ve had their crispy chicken with cherry blossom rice and their spicy basil chicken with jasmine rice. All of their rice plates come with a fried egg with the gooey center. I personally prefer their basil chicken rice, it’s got some heat, very aromatic with the smell of basil. Two other reasons I prefer basil chicken over the crispy chicken: that the texture of jasmine rice is less moist and mushy than cherry blossom rice, and that I’m not a fan of fried foods. Don’t get me wrong, the fried chicken was made well, crispy and moist, but lacking a bit in the flavor department. You don’t get the mini salad on the side either. I need my daily veggies, yadidamean? And if you’re not a fan of chicken, they have the pork version that’s pretty popular here. This place does get packed during lunch. The wait for food isn’t too long. Tables are first come first serve, so plan accordingly.

Food here is so good! You order first at register, then wait. I love the spring rolls and rice plates here. I came in at 2:25 and they seemed to be wrapping up. The cashier was hesitant but the cooks agreed and were nice enough to whip up my order.

The veggie phở was average at best. The herbs are fresh, temperature is not hot and not surprisingly the miniature corn did not do anything for me. To my shock, my vegetarian phở had fatty beef in it. I did not even bring it up to the staff. On the other hand, the truffle sweet potato fries are extremely delicious. Not greasy, crunchy served with a well matched dipping sauce and fresh sliced scallions. These are the best sweet potatoes Ive ever had. The spring roll have nothing special about them. They are fresh, well wrapped, and served with a complimentary dipping sauce. Yet, there are no interesting flavors like pickled ginger or dried shrimp. Throw SOMETHING in it to make it unique. Little amount of lemon grass beef Id return simply for the fries. Also some of the lights were turned off, the music was randomly turned on too loud, then, adjusted to the right volume. The cashier had a runny nose and wiped it with the back of her hand. I feel the food was slightly over-priced. This place has lots of room for improvement..
