[12/30/2015] I went through two procedures with Dr. Hugh Mai since the other doctors hesitated to do both procedures at once due to insurance reasons. My first procedure, I was not in good shape after the procedure due to getting higher dose of anesthetic than advised due to my resistence of placing a hose in my throat. The second procedure was better with lower dose of anesthetic. After the two of my procedures, doctor called me for reviewing the result and it was informative. I went to Dr. Hugh Mai to get EGD and colonoscopy. He first told me that I can’t get EGD since my insurance doesn’t cover for this procedure. I explained to him about my frequent heartburn, so he told me that he can get the diagnostics done, but have to be done in seperate days since it is hassle to get approval for both EGD and colonoscopy if I have them done on the same day. I consented to two seperate procedures, but then the office staff told me that I had to be sedated for both procedures. I then asked around and found out that they can be done on the same day. We then had several phone conversations with the office regarding what medicines to take and such. Three days after I had the consultation, the office called and told me that the Dr. Hugh Mai can not do both procedures at the same time due to a risk of long sedation and preparation of these procedures on the same day. Based on this experience, all I can say is that all the Dr. Mai cares about is whether 1. he can claim the insurance for this procedure($$$) and 2. whether it is convenient for him or not. What disturbs me the most is that the office staff asked me if I want both procedures done at the same time. The staff and the doctor are not insync at all. I would definately not recommend this place and will ask for my money back on my consultation.

I was referred to Dr. Mai by my primary care physician. I had my consultation with him today and here are my impressions. –His front office is friendly but thorough –He’s personable –A good listener –He pays attention to detail –Great with education/explaining things to patients –Gives his patients hope by having a «can do» attitude –Takes action and provides a plan Long story short… I’m very impressed.
