I saw Dr Sharp 2 or 3 years ago for help managing and understanding problems with anxiety and sleep disturbances, and with her advise and guidance was able to drastically improve in these areas. The initial meetings involved me giving explanations of my issues, she made some diagnosis of the problem over the sessions(not sure how many), and in subsequent meetings we did a self examinations and note taking on ways to improve my thought processes, and strategies to implement them. In each session we did a review of my progress on implementing those strategies, and ways to modify them as needed. The methodology was very effective for me, and I think I only had to see her for 2 or 3 months when she recommended(and I agreed) that I did not need more counseling my my anxiety and sleep issues. This is the definition of professionalism and honesty. Every person has different issues, and I can’t say the approach is appropriate for all problems. I would imagine that she implements different strategies for each individual person, and results may vary widely if the problems are more complex than mine were. I just want to put a positive review out there as I was planning to recommend her to a friend, and did not agree with the reviews being all negative. The reality is that the vast majority of people are reluctant to write reviews of mental health professionals in a public place like Unilocal as they are sensitive issues, unless they are activated in a negative way, so keep that in mind when reviewing healthcare professionals, and online reviews in general.

I went to see her back in September of 2011. She helped me with my insomnia issues and the grieving of a childhood pet. One of my cats was having issues and had not been diagnosed yet with interstitial bowel cancer. She did give me support with this cat and she was an animal person. She also gave me support with the loss of my parents. She was not knowledgeable of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Gillian Barre Syndrome. She said she was though during the interview. She said both of these physical health problems were psychosomatic. She made a mockery out of my health issues. I have been diagnosed recently with Lyme Disease which mimics Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. She said I was a hypochondriac.

I had therapy here for several months, and it was not productive. Lois is not a very warm person, and doesn’t incorporate the patient’s concerns and ideas. Her attitude is very much«i’m the expert, and you should listen to me.» And, she’s a leech. I finally had to end the sessions because she would not take my insurance and regardless of the effort we both put in, I didn’t see any results. Proceed with caution.
