Another great restaurant has taken over though… Gulzaar Halaal. My friend and I went there tonight and it was amazing. Here’s my review…

Not sure what happened… but there was newspapers all over the windows when we drove by tonight to check it out … looks like they may have closed down?

Absolutely LAZIZ. It is very hard to find authentic Arab food around San Jose, despite the diversity. This is a place you can rely on being authentic Lebanese. Lebanon is famous for it’s pastries and they do have some really good items on the list. Super cheap and super tasty. Like Omid mentions below, slightly dry. I’d like to see it juicy, the way it ought to be… but then again, I can’t be picky. Great if you want a group to try out Lebanese flavors. I went with a group of very picky people(you can’t get them to try new things other than Chinese food) and they loved it.

Situated on busy San Carlos street, this place can be easy to miss… and i hope you don’t cause this place is AWESOME. I tried the laziz special with chicken, and for 4.99 it was a great value, not to mention incredibly tasty, who knew something so simple could be so good! This was my first time to really try Lebanese cuisine, and the guy working there provided outstanding service with advice on what to order. The place wasn’t very busy, but they really should be… it’s quite good. Five Unilocal stars good.

This is a wonderful little place. The food was very good — the hummus creamy and very real, the pittas warm, and the pitta and Za’atar even better. The owner went out of his way to be nice. Real middle eastern hospitality. And you can take stuff home — they make their own fresh pittas on the spot, and you can take them with you! recommended.

We’ve been meaning to try Laziz for almost a year, but things(ok, The Lunch Box) kept stopping up(closed on Mondays). Finally got to it after climbing yesterday, and I was very very unhappy. Unhappy? Yes, that I didn’t come hear earlier, often, and with a wish for the olden days in my heart. Laziz has great food, much of it similar to what I remember in Israel. I haven’t had the great taste of a liberal Zatar layer on tasty pita for a long time. Everything was solid, the cheese tasty and the shwarma very good(although not 5 star, good but not out of this world). Expect a really good meal, and a taste of home. I’ll be back here often for a quick bite or some take out. If you like middle eastern food, or just want to try another great home-style place in San Jose, come on down to Just Laziz. Tip: Also buy an almond pistachio cookie on your way out.

5 stars for the food, price, friendly service, and for having a bathroom! I don’t really know the names, but I like the thing loaded with thyme, and the minty yogurt drink. Everything else is good too.

This is a great place for lunch, inexpensive and good food. Most of the Manakeesh(a kind of Lebanese style pizza/bread with a topping), are less than $ 3. We had the Lahmbaajin(meat, tomatoes, onions and spices), which was excellent and the Zaatar & Jebneh(thyme and cheese), which was also good. We also had the Shawarma Plate(shawarma, salad, hummus and pita bread). This was good but the meat was a bit dry and strictly speaking not authentic shawarma as the meat was beef. The shawarma that I’ve had in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan is always made up of alternating layers of veal and lamb(The fat from the lamb helps stop the veal from becoming dry during grilling). That being said, the shawarma was pretty good so no big deal. I recommend that you try this place.

NOTCLOSED! They’ve changed ownership and renovated and the results are great. They have expanded their menu and the results are great. Food is fresh and flavorful. Great place for lunch. Prior Reveiw(3 stars): Very authentic and very good. No complaints, I’d love to see them expand their menu beyond lunch/snack items though.

So my Assyrian co worker who thinks its hilarious that I post reviews here told me about this place. Looking for a place to get a snack my girlfriend and I decided to give it a try. She(my co-worker) was right on that it is really good. Not«five star» dining but five stars for the new tastes and cleanliness. The pizza like dishes are a great snack. We had the Laziz special and it was also a unique new taste. I will definitely go back when I have a chance. It is also really inexpensive so try alot of things when you go. Trust me on this one guys try it you will like it.

i’ve never had lebanese food so i didn’t know what i was in for. i had high expectations cause i’ve heard good things about this place. luckily i was not disappointed. the just laziz special combo(which comes with chicken or beef with spinach & cheese) was awesome. it’s like a calzone you could get a restaurant for about $ 12 but here it was only $ 4.25. the crust was tender and toasty and the fillings were the perfect balance of meat, spinach, cheese and spices. i also had the meat and cheese manakeesh(lahmbaajin and cheese). the only thing i can compare it to is an italian-style thin-crust pizza with spices(i couldn’t tell what kind). it was so good and only $ 2.99! overall really tasty and really cheap with good sized portions.

Super tasty, inexpensive, and friendly help. I fully reccommend this place for a snack or lunch. I’m glad I can get zataar here now — I used to enjoy that snack in west LA. The baklava is terrific.

As a vegetarian, my options included lots of spinach, which was ok, but nothing too exciting. The bread that they serve everything on is good, but nothing compared to other breads in the world like naan and injera. The cookies weren’t that great. The humus was excellent.

Laziz means ‘delicious’ and that’s exactly what they serve here. Delicious food, with few other frills. Their shawarma, while not of the huge portions I’m accustomed to, is fantastic. Perhaps a bit on the dry side, but absolutely loaded with flavor. The secret? The liberal dose of sumak they throw in there. If that isn’t enough, the have a sumak shaker on each table! Grilled meat-in-a-pita aside, the place is billed as a Lebanese bakery, and they specialized in the baked goods. Puffy, flaky pastries that can serve as a snack or a meal unto themselves. It all makes for a great, reasonably priced lunch. Grab a shawarma, a sebenag(spinach) pastry, and a bottle of dough(flavored yogurt/milk drink) and you’re set. Laziz, indeed.

The food is damn good here. I was brought here by a few of my Arabic friends and as a first timer when it comes to eating Labanese food, I was impressed. I dont remember what I ate because I didn’t order it, but it was good!

A great Lebanese restaurant that serves delicious Schawarma(think tightly wrapped gyro without the sauce) for about $ 4 — $ 7 and a variety of Manakeeshes(think pocket pizza) for about $ 2 — $ 5. The slices of beef in the Schawarma is well seasoned and perfect to stop a growling stomach for several hours. I ordered the Schawarma plate that comes with pieces of pita, hummus and a small salad sprinkled with sumac. The hummus was silky smooth and had no bitter aftertaste. You have a choice of several Manakeeshes. I really enjoyed Lahmbaajin Manakeesh which has ground lamb filling seasoned with spices. The Sambaing and Jebneh has a feta and spinach filling. There’s a slight wait for your order, but the food comes to you steamy hot and tasting fresh. The proud owner is friendly and very open to answering questions you may have regarding his offerings. They take credit cards. Street parking only, but it’s not too difficult to locate a spot.

Great lunch spot. The manakeesh are inexpensive – under $ 5 apiece – and a damn sight tastier than the $ 5 Little Caesar’s pies. Not that it’s a remotely fair comparison – these pies are delicious, fresh, flavorful, with crisp and flaky crusts. The zatar is probably my favorite, but spinach and cheese, alone or together, is never a bad thing. The hummus is creamy and tangy, a nice complement. The tabbouleh was a little too tangy, but not bad. It’s best for lunch(a really quick lunch!), but they close at 7, so you can grab an early dinner, too. Next time I go I’ll give in to the sweet pastry temptations that are displayed by the register.
