Solid 2.5. The concept is similar to MOD and Pieology, but I prefer the two over Blaze. Pro: The pizza comes out faster at Blaze. Honestly, my pizza was like a 1.5 and that’s because I liked the spicy sauce(which wasn’t spicy enough, but still good) and the feta cheese. CONS: They didn’t have a mini option(for kids). Mozzarella cheese wasn’t melty. Crust was too hard. No flavor to it either. Shady on «extra» toppings. Their drizzle options aren’t that great. They also have pre made salads. Located in a nice, busy area. Lots of parking. They take card.

This place is consistently fast and delicious! I preferred MOD pizza to this place before, but MOD’s service and quality has suffered in the past year. The employees are efficient here and your order really does come out faster than any other pizza place I’ve been to!!! I appreciate how fast the line is and they are ALWAYS busy! Their pizza is soooo AWESOME! The thin crust is perfectly crisp every time! I love their spicy sauce, the cheese selection and the option to top it all off with arugula. This definitely is my favorite made to order pizza place right now!

Love the concept of build your own pizza! This is the fourth byop place that I have tried and love everything about it. Lots of toppings to choose from and they are very nice about putting on whatever and as much of something as you want! They also have more cheese options than Mod or Pieology(my bf loves cheese and be put fresh mozzarella –which he said was the real deal-, shredded mozzarella, Parmesan, and goat cheese). The arugula as an after bake topping was a delicious touch as well. I think what really sets them apart from other byop places is their speed. They really have the assembly system down and the line moved Soo quickly, even during the dinner rush! I saw a documentary that real, authentic pizzas in Italy cook in 1 minute or so. Consistent with what Blaze advertises, their thin crust pizzas do cook in 180 seconds or less! The blood orange lemonade was pretty unique too. I normally just get water, but had to buy a drink just to try this! They will also do a half/half pizza for you if you want!

I got a text that said: Hey, should I bring a warm snack home? Or a sweet snack? I had so many choices in the Almaden Plaza: Boudin, Chevy’s, Red Lobster, burgers, phở, pizza… I was excited to try Blaze, I’ve never had it before! After having a few slices I totally regret opting for pizza. I don’t get it. It wasn’t a great pizza. The sauce was flavorless. The sausage was boring. The veggies didn’t taste fresh. Unmemorable. There are too many of this Chipotle copycats nowadays, can someone think of a different idea??? The pizza was two stars but the service was five stars. The staff was friendly and helpful and the food came quick. Good job, staff!

I decided to try this place because of the good reviews. It had a very similar passageway of picking your choices of unlimited sauce, meats, toppings, and extras like pieology(you can also chose their signature pizzas). The biggest difference is that you get you pizza blazin’ fast! As soon as I ordered, filled my cup with lemonade, and took my seat, my pizza was cooked. Possibly because it was done super fast, the outer crust was crispy but the sauce made the center of my pizza«sag». I’m generally a big fan of thin crust pizzas but I like them dry and crispy. I’m giving them four stars anyways because the service was good and although I didn’t think the pizza tasted anything special, I liked the healthy and«artisanal» ingredients behind their name. I won’t be running back for more pizza but I’d go again.

1 star off for a bad start. The first guy in the assembly line, the one who takes the order, had an attitude. I get it that you want a pierced edgy dude with his chain & padlock necklace but he should still treat customers like customers. He got frustrated with me because I was ordering 2 pizzas. When I started telling him the second one he interrupted me and barked«how many pizzas do you want?» Then he barks at the lady next to me «One at a time» Clearly they are set up for 1 person, 1 pizza at a time. The pizza assemblers were trying but it was a confusing process. When we got to the cashier the credit card machine was not working right so that took some time. She was nice at least and the pizza came out quick. The place is busy and really noisy. But we got a table with no wait at 12:15 on a weekday. This is where the 4 stars come in. The pizza is fantastic! I was really impressed. It is the closest thing I’ve had to Papa Gino’s pizza outside New England. Thin crust but unlike most thin crust pizzas that are crispy, this is soft and chewy. Perfect sauce to dough to cheese ratio. I always order a plain cheese when I go to a new pizza place to be able to rate them on the essentials. This one was amazing and a super deal at under $ 6 for an 11″ pie. We also got one of their signature pies called the GREENSTRIPE(pesto drizzle over grilled chicken, roasted red peppers, chopped garlic, mozzarella, arugula) it was really good flavor wise but too heavy on the salt. I will be back soon and will try a customized pie. I hope the service is better and that Mr. Padlock is in a better mood!

4.5! Chipotle-style pizza. You get to pick your(unlilmited) toppings and sauce for only $ 8 a pizza! I got red sauce, cheese, mushrooms, artichoke, italian sausages, and fresh basil with pesto drizzle on top. It was sooo good!!! The crust was actually a little thicker than I would’ve liked, but I like realllyyyy thin crust so that’s just me. I found out after ordering and paying that I could’ve gotten arugula on top as well so next time, I’m definitely adding that. Service is pretty friendly and your food comes out super fast. I’d much rather get pizza from here than from Round Table or Pizza Hut or any one of those types of joints. Blaze Pizza might even top Mod pizza for me.

Consistent, tasty, inexpensive quality pizza. This is a great place to come and grab dinner fast especially if you have a large group since everyone can order their own. The pizza is delicious and has a nice crispy crust. I’ve also ordered online a few times and called to confim my order. I was able to pick up and go home faster. If you’re looking for the Chipotle of Pizza… then Blaze is it.

Excellent value for an $ 8 pizza. Line is super long during the dinner rush(15+ mins), and the internet orders get cycled in with people waiting in line, which isn’t as cool IMO. If you aren’t getting multiples of things, be sure to tell them that you only want pepperoni, for example. They put on toppings assuming that you want to order a bunch of them, since it is all you can pick. Have had a couple different combos there and have enjoyed them all.

I LOVEPIZZA. If you love pizza too, this is like pizza heaven. With unlimited fresh toppings, you can’t have it better than that! Also, the thin crust keeps it low calories. Also, a whole pizza usually, I cannot finish. So you definitely get a bang for your buck. The dining area is always kept clean because there’s always some one on duty cleaning up. This place is a must every time I’m in the area.

Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza(BFFP) is another entrant in the seemingly endless parade of «build-your-own» pizza joints that has invaded SJ in the past few years. This BFFP is located in the ever-popular Almaden Plaza, and has now been open roughly four months. BFFP has some set combos for you to choose from if you’re not feeling very creative, or you can completely make up your own mix-&-match combo. I like to keep it simple and usually make different variations of my favorite pizza, the Margherita. Toppings– Nice array of toppings with just about everything one could possibly want with a pizza. I like all the different styles of cheese, which is my favorite part of any pizza; I like to do a combo of fresh Mozzarella and Ricotta on mine. My one gripe with their toppings is they don’t have any sliced, or sun-dried tomatoes, only cherry tomatoes available to top your pie. 3.75* Crust– BFFP’s crust is the weak link in the chain, for me. It’s really vanilla tasting, and has no character to it. It tastes like something I could make at home, and probably do a better job of it. Granted it does have a nice crispness to it when it’s cooked, but the taste is just not there. 2* Sauce– I usually stick with their red sauce, but they do have a white available if you so choose. I recently tried their spicy red and it was really good – and actually spicy! 4* S’mores Pie– The S’mores Pie was much better than I had anticipated, as they actually use good quality ingredients: the Graham Cracker is crunchy and tasty without being too sweet; the Marshmallow has a good clean Vanilla flavor(and not the cheap stuff most people are accustomed to); and the chocolate was probably the weakest part of the trio, with a pretty basic chocolate flavor that didn’t really stand out. I like that they warm it up by the fire, and will keep it there until you’re ready for it. The resulting warmed-up combo makes for a deliciously crispy, gooey, chocolatey symphony in your mouth, and you’ll wish it was bigger! Even my 4-year-old who’s not big into sweets(don’t ask) thought it was great! 4* Service & Ambiance– My first visit to BFFP was not a good one, as I encountered an employee who was more interested in chismosa’ing with her co-workers than actually working, and they burnt my crust pretty bad. Fortunately on subsequent visits I haven’t seen hide-nor-hair of said chismosa, and the crust on my pie was adequately charred. The interior of BFFP is kept really dark; I’m not sure what kind of ambiance they’re trying to create, but I don’t particularly like eating in the Batcave unless I’m with Batman. Service 3*/Ambiance 2* Value– $ 7.95 for a pie with as many toppings as you want, or $ 6.55 for a one-topping pie makes BFFP a pretty good lunchtime value. It will fill you up, but won’t get you stuffed – unless you’re one of those people that puts *EVERYTHING* on your pie!!! Don’t be one of those people. Seriously. Just don’t. 4* I’m stuck on an approximate 3.5-star rating for BFFP, but when I compare it to other options in the area like Bibo’s, or Pizza My Heart, it is definitely a step –or three– below them. Regardless, BFFP is a decent, fast and fairly inexpensive lunchtime option if you’re in the area – but hardly worth going out of your way.

4 – 4.5STAR. I had heard about Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza from a friend of mine, but I didn’t feel like trekking all the way over to Fremont from San Jose for pizza. When I found out that there was a Blaze in the Almaden complex, we decided that we had to try it before everyone found out about it. It is only a matter of time before the line goes out the front door. And after trying it, we now know why. We visited this location in San Jose a few months ago(around the time this location opened) on a Tuesday or Wednesday around 5:45 — 6:00, and there wasn’t a long line at all, which was great for us! There are a few different options — you can get the standard cheese pizza, you can get a pizza with cheese + 1 ingredient, or you can get a pizza with cheese + unlimited other ingredients. I’ll let you take a wild guess as to which option we chose. Duhhhh, we went for the option where we were able to put a mountain of ingredients on the pizza. The first thing you have to choose is the type of sauce. They have standard red or spicy red sauce. My wife got standard and I tried the spicy. The spicy wasn’t very spicy at all, but it definitely had a nice little kick to it. As for ingredients, I added the following to mine: mozzarella cheese, Italian sausage, pepperoni, bacon, onion, green pepper, pineapple, mushrooms, tomatoes, and chopped garlic. My wife basically got the same thing except she likes olives and banana peppers on hers too. It only takes a few minutes for them to cook the pizza, hence the name of the place. They call out your name and you pick up your pizzas, and boy are they amazing. I would recommend not putting every topping on your pizza(like I did the first time I went) because it makes the pizza heavy and a little soggy because it doesn’t cook all the way through. Pick your 4 – 5 favorite toppings and go from there. You can also get a side of pesto, ranch, BBQ sauce, etc. if you ask for it. I used them for dipping sauces. We really loved it here and will be back. Prices are great too. You can get all the ingredients you want for $ 7.95 for the pizza. What a great deal. We’ve been back one more time since then, and the line was a little longer, but we still had a great experience. I actually enjoy it more than Pieology. They have more staff at Blaze and the lines moves much faster. Highly recommend! Try it out soon!

Clean eating for 30 days has taught me many things– one of which is to choose your cheat meals wisely. I’m happy to report that after giving up refined white flour, caffeine, sugar, salt and of course alcohol, this place hit the spot. I mean it’s pizza in all it’s thin crust glory, made to order just for you with all your fresh ingredients that *you* get to choose. For $ 7.95 plus tax($ 8.65 total), I consider this a deal! Here’s what I Ordered: «Link In” — italian sausage, roasted red peppers, sauteed onions, mozzarella, red sauce. Since you get to add whatever ingredients you want for no extra charge, I had to take advantage. I added on mushrooms, artichoke, bacon, pepperoni, olives, spinach, meatballs, chopped garlic, and ricotta cheese. Because why the heck not. My custom made pizza was piping hot and I did my Unilocal duties by taking a picture for all of you to see. It was delectable. The crust was thin and soft, with the perfect amount of crunchy exterior. The ingredients alone left me wanting for not. I added no extra parmesan cheese– just red pepper flakes because I love me some extra spice. Oh, and this place is SO much better than Mod Pizza. No competition at all. You must try it for yourself. Yay for Cheat meals. Blaze is worthy. That is all.

Another build your own pizza joint and it wasn’t too bad! I got the veg out because I wanted to try zucchini on a pizza. Along the way I added meat to it, which the workers there laughed at since I ruined the integrity of a veggie pizza… oops. It turned out really good though and the crust here is amazing. I would recommend not overloading your pizza with too many ingredients or specifically adding ones that potentially have water/oil run from it as it’s being cooked because usually this is why the certain parts of the pizza may turn out soggy and uncooked. I would definitely try this place again!

Like Pieology, I got to make my own pizza the way I like it loaded with all my favorite toppings. They got a wide selections sauces, meats, cheeses and veggies. You can add as many ingredients as you want or as a cheese lover you can put on like 8 different kinds of cheeses. I think I saw blue, cheddar, ricotta, feta, mozzarella, etc… They also offer spicy marinara sauce, roasted or chopped garlic, herb seasonings, basil, the list goes on. I was very satisfied by my personalized pizza. The portion was just right and I will definitely return when my pizza craving kicks in.

I was really disappointed. One of the new chipotle model pizza places.(Pieology, Mod Pizza) Create your own. The crust came out floppy, and my whole pizza was just WET. The paper underneath was soaked and as I picked up my slice it just sagged over and everything slid off. I had to pick it up off the soggy paper and try to recreate it. Sauce is a zero, no flavor, toppings no flavor. A nice employee came by and asked how things were and I said, well WET! He said if there were a lot of toppings that it would happen. Hmmm… I had chicken, mushrooms, grilled onions, and kalamata olives. I would not call this excessive amount of topping in addition to cheese. Pretty average pizza ingredients. See my review for Mod Pizza(no sag, no wet)

With the custom/build your own pizza craze, this one definitely did not disappoint. I like the indentation they form on the pizza crust. Helps keep your sauce and toppings in the center, and you actually have a crispy crust when it comes out of the oven. All employees were friendly, and helpful in suggesting what toppings go together. They don’t lie when they say your pizza is done in «180 seconds»…which is awesome. Tastier & quicker than fast food! Also, a manager came by and asked how our food was tasting. Employees came by to whisk away the pans once we finished. Definitely will return. Nice to see a well-run establishment in this area.

it’s a 3.5 . Who would say ‘no’ to a free pizza huh? After receiving a free pizza coupon for their opening(I live like a 2 blocks away form there), I decided to try this new«build your own pizza» place. 7.95 $ for unlimited topping large pizza. Fast service and super friendly staff. It’s hard not to compare those restaurants with the competition… but I’ll try not too. The topping choice is a bit limited, but they have nice veggies options(especially those marinated zucchini bites!). The queue goes fast, cooking process is less than 2 minutes. Crispy, non-soggy crust. The place is cozy(doesn’t look like a large canteen like in some other paces) and not too noisy. For all those resaons, I am rating it 4 stars(for a build your own pizza place. Everything is relative!).

Customizable pizzas are the cool thing to do now and it’s a competition of who does it best. If you have ever been to pieology or MOD, it’s the same thing. This place came from SoCal and has made its way up to NorCal. If you havnt tried any type of place like this, it’s basically like a subway for pizza. You pick a premade type of pizza and then add whatever extra you like or you can make one completely on your own. It’s then put in the oven for you and done in a few minutes. The difference between blaze and pieology is that blaze is done significantly faster. It gets soggy a little quicker than pieology however. I think the quality and choice of the toppings here are a winner though. Especially their meatball topping! Not to mention the service here is so great! The workers are super nice and helpful and they come back to check on you a couple of times while you sit there.

Me and my husband came back for their grand opening(April 2nd). It was fun customizing our own pizzas. I love how we can choose fresh Mozzerella as one of the cheeses. For the veggies, there was so many to select. After paying for our pizzas, we only had to wait a few minutes before our name was called. My pizza was delicious! The crust was super thin and crispy at the edge. Since I had a lot of veggies, part of my crust was soggy on the bottom Overall, food and service was awesome! They kept checking up on us to make sure we were ok.
