We always go out here each year even if it’s a drive. It is tucked away in thhe hills but not far from Hwy 1. Good selection of pumpkins… and we are supporting a small farm farmer when he is being squeezed out in recent times. Corn field behind, stacks of hay for climbing on, our puppy had a great time with another puppy. In town there is a General store with lots of fun stuff and coffee. The ocean is at the corner, another beach right before that. W do not«do» the corner places that bring pumpkins in… we want the real field that they really came out of.

Muzzi’s Ranch is located off highway 84 near Pescadero on La Honda Road. There are a few dilapidated signs leading the way but mostly you’ll just stumble upon it by the bright patch of orange off to the side of the road. To call it a ranch is a bit of stretch. At one time, maybe 20 years ago, it was an operating ranch but today its a set of dilapidated buildings, empty fields and pumpkins. The larger pumpkins are arranged in an open field with cardboard boxes of little pumpkins and gourds off to the sides. You can choose from the basic orange pumpkin or some«designer» pumpkins of bright orange or green. The boxes of little pumpkins are sold 3 for a $ 1 and so are the gourds which come in an array of colors and sizes(some oddly resembling fruits in color and shape). Conveniently at the entranceare 10 red wheel barrowsfor use by customers to fill up with their pumpkin treasures. We filled up two wheel barrows each. I chose: 2large pumpkins for decorating and three mini pumpkins for fun. Our grand total was a whopping $ 6. In the city, this would have cost me at least $ 20! Our friends made the real killing: 3 large pumpkins, anassortment of gourds, 6 mini pumpkins and 5 smaller pumpkinsforonly $ 23. Sadly, the corn maze was just not tall enough. The prior year, we had torrential rains around Halloween and a lot of the farm land in the area got flooded and crops washed away. This farm was hit pretty hard as the entire corn maze was one big pool of water last year. This year he built it in a new location, but possibly it didn’t have time to mature, only a 3 year old would have been short enough to call it a proper maze. Plus the old man, his not so trusty companion leering by his side and the $ 5 surcharge cannot be appealing to parents of little ones! No one dared enter the maze in the time we were That being said, Muzzi’s Ranch is awonderful optionfrom the busy Half Moon Bay pumpkin festival but if you are looking for modern amenities and trendy pumpkin ice cream this isn’t your place. Its an beautiful drive from the city, cheap, highly entertaining and quiet. I’d much rather go to a pumpkin patch that resembles a scene from The Children of the Corn than Half Moon Bay’s yuppie heaven. Its all so very hallow

My family has gone here for the last 4 years. It’s in a beautiful spot, on a real farm, and operated by a real farmer — and old Italian guy named Dominic. It’s a large patch, but doesn’t have any the carnival like amusements that are popular at other large patches, which, in my opinion, is nice. One look at Dominic’s face and you know he’s seen countless days on the farm, he’s one of the main attractions for us. I haven’t tried it yet, but you could probably trade him a Coors for a pumpkin.

This corn maze is gloriously ghetto and I can’t decide if I love it or hate it. First of all the sign is misspelled«Enterance.» Second of all, to get in it’s not clear who to pay. Eventually you realize you give your $ 5 to the guy who just sits in a car all day near the pumpkin patch.(No sign, no indication that he’s the person to pay. For all we know we gave ten bucks to a random guy in a car.) Thirdly, the corn stalks are quite low, especially at the beginning, so you wonder if the maze will even be hard. Oh, it’s hard. It’s not really tricky so much as long. And the corn gets higher(though not super creepy high), but even when it’s low it’s not like you can cheat because of it. There’s a lot of following a long path around without any decision making at forks. At least that’s how it is at the beginning. Near the end, right around the point where you’re wondering if you’ll ever get out, the sky’s getting darker, the maze is totally deserted, and you’re joking about whether guy-in-car even checks the corn maze at the end of the night to see if anyone’s stuck inside(our vote: a resounding«hells no»), all of a sudden there’s a lot of forks. That’s scary because by then I was worried we might take the wrong one and go through the entire maze again. It took us 45MINUTES to get out. We had fond memories of this corn maze from about four years ago, and we we thought it took about 25 minutes tops then. While we were in the maze we could see over the low stalks a mother with her kids who had just entered the maze. We told her«Get out while you can» and explained we’d been in the maze for a good part of our lives, and she was like«Holy crap.» Still, it isn’t Halloween unless you’re in a corn maze worried you’ll be trapped for the rest of your life… And in case you’re here for any other reason(why would you when they have the world’s unintentionally scariest corn maze?), they also sell strawberries and have a big hay pyramid(which is also ghetto because it feels like it’s going to come apart at the hay seams).

STRAWBERRIES!!! They grow and sell the strawberries here. I think it was $ 9 for like 8 of those little green tub things? Anyway, it was super cheap for a huge amount. Quality is ridiculous /top of the line. I hit this place up just about every time I’m riding by. Actually, I hit up all the strawberry stands I see(when out in those parts of Cali) but none can touch Dominic’s. Is it just the skill level at this place? The weather? The combo? No doubt the combo, and no doubt DEE-LEE-CIOUS! FAVABEANS Thanks to Anthony Hopkins, I have also had the Fava beans. The were freak’n huge, and tasty! CARETAKER Portuguese gentleman. Super nice. He will hook you up!
