3 Delight was the best dish ever!!! I’m sad to see this place closed. I wish I knew where the chef went…

Very traditional Taiwanese food. Great for a no frills comfort food. Quality of the food is very high for it’s price. Better then sin ba la for food.

My most favorite TWnese food place in the US! I hv probably tried no less than 50 different TWnese or Asian fusion restaurants in 15 years n this place ranks no.1 in my book. Despite its small n somewut unpleasant dine-in environment, their TWnese food authenticity n flavor r impeccable. I never go to a restaurant for its fancy atmosphere, n food taste is the most important to me.

I just went back to this restaurant because I liked their Japanese shrimp fried rice. This time I went in the evening. The shrimp fried rice was not as good as last time because the rice was a little too moist. It was a disappointment. Another reason I came back was for their dumplings & green onion pancakes. Then I found out they sell frozen dumplings to go only. They do not sell green onion pancakes during dinner. My husband wanted to order their beef noodles but it was also unavailable. They also ran out of the complimentary soup. another disappointment. They did serve the green pea sweet soup after dinner as free dessert which made us feel a little better.

Well, We don’t want to wait for the line of Golden Deli, and I always wanted to give a try for this one. Ordered the sausage, the rice noodle(different rice noodle than I thought,) and satay lamb(come with soup and rice, the free soup tasted good actually). Only the sausage was acceptable, the noodle soup looked and tasted like dishwater… The satay lamb was ok, didn’t taste too much lamb out of it though. And the dishes were served slow, seems they have more waitresses than chefs. After meal dessert was sweet green bean porridge, love it. Service is decent, cash only. I will wait in the line for golden deli next time.

Aka J&J on sign. My mom likes getting food to go, not as oily as other places. Traditional taiwanese from different place. Lamb with satay sauce $ 6.50. Shredded pork with bean curd $ 5.25. Special lunch 11a-3pm 7day. They also have a dinner special! Not sure if its a great place to dine-in but it is a great place to get food to-go(lunch special!) Dinner also includes beginning soup, and end cold green bean dessert soup. Same plaza as Golden Deli, actually right next door to it. Small ghetto hole in the wall. Great for causal eats. CASHONLY!

I really dislike this place. The place looked old and dirty. Outside was 97 degree and they did not turn on the AC and just open the door. The hot air kept coming out from the kitchen. Me and my friend arrived there around 2pm and almost everything we want to eat was not available. So be smart and go there with preparation — wear shorts during Hot weather; and prepare yourself that won’t have a good experience in there.

Love this place with dishes cooked as from home. Not oily not msg feel. Everything is just right and the quantity is just like at home. Just at some peak time, you might find it hard to get a parking or even need to wait a bit to get in. Cash only. All the Taiwanese dishes are good there and they used to get free soup/dessert before or after the meal.

My wife and I was there a month ago. I’ve ordered a bowl of minced pork rice and several cook to order beef dishes. Unbelievable, from what it looks like, there’s a piece of pig ear in the minced pork rice! I was extremely shocked and lost appetite. The other beef dishes we’ve ordered, the meats all tasted sour and under cooked. i know for sure those dishes were not suppose to be sour, it was certain that the meats have gone bad. We didn’t want to be rude and so we didn’t complained, so we’ve asked the waitress to pack up the remaining food to-go so we can take it home. We didn’t want to risk getting sick, so after coming out of the restaurant, we’ve just put the to-go’s into the dumpster and will never go back again.

This place is great place for authentic Taiwanese food. In the three years(going on four) in SGV, this place is consistently the best place for traditional Taiwanese style stir fries and home style food. I only rated four stars because of its inconsistent service. However, in their defense, it is 1) a ma & pa shop, and 2) they make good enough quality of food for return customers despite the moodiness of the owner. And yes, they do run out of food near the end of the shifts because they keep their food fresh or they have already cleaned up the equipment. So, if you are looking for something fancy, fusion, colorful dishes that perhaps taste mediocre, then this place isn’t for you. However, if you want to a little taste of Taiwan/home, you won’t find any place more real. Dishes I’d recommend(bare with me, I’m translating here) are pickled clams(small ones, seasonal), basil stir fried lamb, tofu with sliced pork and leek(spicy option available), stir fried«dragon whiskers»(seasonal green vegetable), fried pork chops, and sausages. If you can read Chinese, basically the items on the wall menu are good. Bring your appetite and cash, and enjoy!

Hole in the wall love! I have no idea how my mom found out about this place since it’s in such an obscure location, but we always come here for a late dinner whenever we want comfort Taiwanese food that’s close to home. There are only a few tables and the place is very small, but I like that it’s cozy and quiet. Big plus: dinner special with CHEAP prices. When I say cheap, I’m saying order 5 dishes for only $ 5 – 7 each and a total bill of $ 30. I KNOWRIGHT? And everybody gets a free bowl of soup and some rice with that. Yum, so cheap, so good. Dishes that I like to order: stir fried green beans(very typical dish, but has crunchy fried pieces of minced pork that go well with rice), spicy kungpao chicken cubes(not really spicy at all, but has good flavor), and the shredded bamboo and pork dish. Don’t order the Chinese preserved pork with bamboo dish. It was a little too sweet and syrupy, and I’ve had way better at Sichuan restaurants that make their own preserved pork. The only con to this place is(as many others have said) that they don’t seem to have many dishes available. Everytime I’ve gone, there is always something that we can’t order. No more of a type of vegetable, a type of meat, or stinky tofu. They never have stinky tofu, which I can’t complain about since that crap smells nasty, but it’s lame to put it on your menu if you’re just gonna say no! It’s okay, we’ve always found alternatives, but I wouldn’t come here with high expectations to try the more uncommon dishes on the menu.

I work within walking distance from here and it I am definitely in love with this place. Either that or they put some kind of drug in here that keeps me so addicted. I eat the Sour Veggie Lamb Soup E V E R Y S I N G L E D A Y … and when I say every single day, I literally mean every single day. To the point where, when I go pick it up for lunch break, the boss asked me why I’m eating it everyday. HAHAHA. Because its delishhh. My TOPPP #1 favorite is the pork strips with green bell pepper. Amazing and goes great with their korean rice.(its on lunch special menu!) This place is definitely one of my favorite local taiwanese food restaurants. Its delicious, cheap and neighborhood friendly. check out my pictures :)

This place personifies hole-in-a-wall. If you can handle the poor ambiance, the inconsistent service(half of the dishes we wanted to order on the menu were not available!), and the no bathroom for customers sign(not true, you just have to ask nicely), there are actually a couple of gems here. I recommend the drunken chicken and the stir-fry«dragon beard veggie.»

Food is very good. I’m Taiwanese and I’m a fan of this place. I especially like the soups at this restaurant. However, service is just terrible. I haven’t gone to this place for years because of the rude owner and staff. I remember going there one time at 5:30 pm and was told I could not order dinner(to-go) until 6:00 pm. I also remember another time when the owner told me that the cook will not complete my order because I had ordered only 1 item. Instead, I had to wait for another order from someone else before the kitchen staff would even bother. If you like good Taiwanese food, this is a good place. If you like to be treated like s***, this is also the place to be. Have fun meeting the grumpy witch owner!

Only went here because Golden Deli next door was closed. Went here with my brother and sister. There were probably about 10 tables with only two of them occupied. We proceed to an available table only to be told to move. WTF? We all selected something from the menu. I wanted wonton noodle soup, my brother and sister both wanted sweet and sour pork. Pretty simple, right? When the waitress came to get our order, none of what we wanted were available. I pick another one — they also didn’t have that either. My brother picks another one, same thing — not available. We ask what’s available. They recommended«special noodle soup» for me, shredded pork for my sister, pork chop and sausage fried rice for my brother. My «special noodle soup» was bland even after adding tons of soy sauce in it. The shredded pork was pathetic. The pork chop was burned. And the sausage fried rice was greasy. We could’ve done better cooking our own food. Also the portions were small. Yes, it’s cheap but you get what you pay for. The only good thing on the menu was the can of Coke. NEVERCOMINGBACKHEREAGAIN. I’ll wait when Golden Deli next door is open.

Since I’ve been to Golden Deli for so many times for years, but never tried any other eateries at the same complex, I decided it’s about time to stick to my ultimate plan… that is to conquer every single restaurants at SGV. And, Wan Chun it is. It’s a tiny mom-and-pop operation serving the standard Taiwanese menu. The flavor are slightly sweeter than the usual Taiwanese food. We tried seaweed(is alright), fried chicken(the best among all), noodle with brown sauce(it’s a little bit too sweet), chicken rolls. The pricing and portion are moderate. The service is quite friendly although your dining experience will be much better if you can speak Chinese. *sigh* Overall, not a fan yet… prolly coz we didn’t pick the right food

Food — 5 stars The food here is inexpensive & also tasty! =) I was happy when my fiancé said he liked the food because I ordered several dishes with veggies in them, & he usually dislikes eating his vegetables. He said he is willing to come back here again. Plus, I like how they have a dine-in deal where if you buy 3 dinner specials, you’ll get a veggie dish for free. =) I’m all about deals. Oh — and their milk tea with mini tapioca balls is only $ 1.50! Pretty cheap. My fiancé likes it. Customer Service — 3 stars It’s not great, but they’re not rude. They just don’t smile. I guess that’s how it just is at small Asian restaurants. They just take your order, bring you your food, & bring you your check. I did try to make some conversation with them, but the lady didn’t seem to want to interact with me… even with my broken Mandarin-speaking abilities.

I’ve been coming here for years with my family. It’s a pretty legit Taiwanese restaurant. However, the food is very very greasy so I try not to come too often. My favorite dishes: 1. Kung Pao Chicken — Good flavor. Possibly one of the best kung pao chicken I’ve tasted. I prefer to order it nonspicy but spicy isn’t too bad if you don’t accidentally bite into the chilies. 2. Shredded Pork with Bamboo Shoots — Normally not a big fan of bamboo shoots, because I think it tastes kind of funky. But the bamboo flavor in this dish isn’t too overwhelming. Good pork to bamboo shoot ratio as well. 3. Indian Lettuce(A Cai in Chinese) — If all vegetables tasted this yummy, I would be a vegetarian! I could eat this dish by itself. It’s a simple dish sauteed with garlic, but it has so much flavor! 4. Taiwanese Sweet Sausage — Best sausages hands down! I think even better than the ones at Sinbala. My family even buys packaged ones from here to cook at home. Soup is served before the entrees. And dessert is given in the end as well(warm red bean soup, cold green bean soup, sweet jelly soup are some I’ve had). All dishes come in very generous portions. If you order to-go, each dish comes with a free box of rice as well. :)

One of my colleagues and I had a meeting and wanted to find some good food to eat. We accidentally stumbled into Wan Chun Taiwanese Food, which is located in a small strip mall in San Gabriel, on Las Tunas Drive. I’m soooo glad we found this place! The ladies who work in this restaurant don’t speak much(or any) English. So, be ready to point or do sign language with these ladies when ordering. But, they totally appreciate any attempt to speak Chinese! :) My two favorite things from this restaurant are: Chicken Stir Fry with Green Onions: This is a Taiwanese version of the Cantonese dish, «Cold Ginger Chicken», where there is chicken stir fried with garlic, green onions, ginger. It’s home cooking and is absolutely healthy and delicious!!! It’s also like a Hunan style steamed chicken, but stir fried! YUMYUMYUM-O-LICIOUS!!! Steamed Red Bean in Sticky Rice: In the refridgerator section, there is some rice balls wrapped in ti-leafs and tied up with string. Inside is a JOY of food! It’s sticky rice, stuffed with red bean paste. The rice is steamed for 2 hours+ and the result is a delicious sticky dessert! You can get this dessert cooked(just warm it up at home) or uncooked(you take it home and steam it yourself. It’s really fresh!).

Too bad I can’t give this place a –10 on the scale. The one star is so I can actually write about them. Racist bastards here! I’m actually half taiwanese but not necessarily fluent. Whenever my mom comes in town; she likes to go here. They are the nicest people then. However, when I go in on my own(sorry I only speak limited taiwanese and don’t dress like a fobby asian), they won’t let me order saying some BS about how they are too busy(2 tables — 3 people already eating hot pot and the other table of 3 almost finished with their food — busy, really!!!) or they are(on other occasions) not technically open even though it’s lunch or dinner time and there are customers. I didn’t realize that Taiwanese people here are so rude and racist. I go to Taiwan all the time and never have issues. These guys represent the beauty of Taiwan in a grotesque way towards other cultures. Their food is not bad but their attitudes make it a negative review and people like that should be boycotted! If you are going to be stuck up racists, get out of the United States. We could use less of these types of attitudes and behaviors.
