I can’t speak on the quality of the non-desserts, or the so-so service, or any of that. It’s an SGV place, so that’s part of the culture. It is. That’s how you know it’s an authentic place. And some may even question me considering Tasty as authentic because they grew up in Asia and this is no match for the places in Hong Kong and China. Well, if you can’t afford to go to HK right now, this is not a bad place to hit up, particularly for any of the mango smoothie dessert drinks. They do mango drinks really tasty here. And the sweet rice balls are fun.

Have been here twice. I remember service during the first visit was decent and the desserts were tasty enough. I came back about a year later, and the desserts weren’t as interesting as I remembered them to be, and service was just bad. Our server was not attentive, not friendly, and had a frown on her face most of the time. She barely made eye contact when she served us our food and quickly walked off – not the type of service you’d expect for the prices you pay here. Needless to say, I’m not coming back here. Also, I agree with other reviewers that this is not a real 許留山.

**Fake 許留山?** First of all, this is not 許留山. I am not sure why they get to use the name without being sued. The menu was dirty and sticky but I figured the food shouldn’t be that bad. I ordered a grass jelly dessert and the jelly tasted funky as if it was from the can. The taro balls and the red beans were so hard. not even edible. My boyfriend and I immediately got food poisoned afterwards.

We came to this location because it was where Hui Lau Shan(許留山 from HK) used to be. Apparently on the outside, it says that it’s still there. We ordered a few dessert drinks. I had the mango + coconut + aloe jelly. It was definitely pretty good. Though I love coconut, the coconut in this case was too much like drinking coconut milk, which I don’t particularly care for. The aloe jelly was really good. Cash only.

It says it closes at 130 but we came in maybe 12ish and they were already closing and told us we could only order to go. Ordered a ton of mango sago-like coconutty milk drinks and was pleasantly surprised at how ripe and sweet everything was! Soo I guess that was good. They really were giving us a vibe that they were tryna rush us out of there; a little rude, but I mean whatever it says you guys close at 130 but you didnt… and it was a saturday! and there was a group eating when we walked in! But awh whaleee. I downed my drank during the drive back home so wooh! musta been good

Tasty Dessert isn’t as tasty as I thought it would be. I was hoping it would be similar to Creations Dessert in NorCal… but it didn’t come close. We came here after dinner. I ordered the Mango dessert with sticky rice and coconut milk and a tofu fa with jelly and boba. The tofu fa tasted kinda weird. The almond syrup was a little overwhelming and the tofu wasn’t silky and smooth. The mango dessert was just aite… Service was pretty much non-existent after we got our desserts.

Ok so while looking at Unilocal reviews/pictures, the mango pudding looked really good so I decided to stop by. The pudding does look pretty good in person, but the taste is mediocre and the price is pretty expensive($ 6 for a personal size). My friend also ordered a green tea & red bean slush which tasted horrible! I would rate this place 1 star, but they refunded our money for the disgusting drinks so I will add 1 more star. Do not come here. Not recommended.(this place is also cash only)

Came here while waiting for our table at Boiling Point so that I could find something to sustain myself before I died of hunger. Ending up getting two skewers of fish balls for $ 3 something, to go. I can see other reviews mention that some of the workers aren’t the absolute friendliest of the bunch, but they weren’t rude to me either so I didn’t have a problem with that. Two stars however, because it felt like we were waiting forever for 8 fish balls, and I was so excited for them! But when I crossed the parking lot and opened the bag, it turned out to be just plain fish balls with hoisin sauce sparsely added to them): So it basically tasted like just plain fish balls. With no sauce. I can imagine so many other sauces that would make your fish balls awesome. The sweet/spicy sauce… curry fishballs… I don’t know, let’s work on that menu item a bit, shall we? Albeit the bad ratings, this place does look like a quaint place for dessert, and their mango pudding cup thing is HUGE. So I shall be back to check that out :)

I used to come here every once in a while, and liked it fine, whether I got a mango pudding dish or a mixed drink. But when I returned a few days ago, I had no idea why I liked this place anymore. I chose the mango pudding with fruit(single – or really, double – serving), while my accompaniment selected a variety of other items. The dish consist of chunks of unripe mango and a few shreds of overripe grapefruit surrounding a scoop of what I assume to be mango flavored ice cream atop some mango slush and then finally some mango pudding, all doused with coconut milk. It looks a lot better than it tastes, which to me was a bit… hmm, static, if you will, for a dessert. The grapefruit, while lending a nice color to an otherwise entirely orange-yellowish dish(save for the coconut milk), tragically clashes with the tang of(unripe) mango and the sweetness of the ice cream/slush/pudding. Initially, it was intriguing, but I got sick of it after a while, and was glad I had somebody to share it with. Meanwhile, my sister got a similar dish, but with only mango – and I mean all mango everything. I didn’t taste it because it’s essentially the same as my selection: mango chunks, mango ice cream, mango slush, mango pudding – just no coconut milk. If my pudding was static, I can only imagine how much more so this one would be. Among the other choices were sesame rice with tofu, one of the many mango drinks, and a red bean slush. The sesame dessert, according to my cousin, was good after mixing everything together. The red bean slush was definitely far from the best I have had. It’s strange that such a drink contains aloe at the bottom of the cup instead of actual red beans. I don’t know how I feel about that. Service, in the meantime, was absolutely terrible. When we entered, nobody really greeted or even looked at us for a while, and when someone finally acknowledged us, she just vaguely pointed to where we could sit. And the corner area we chose was terrible: sticky tabletops, food on the floor, straw wrappers on the seat. So when a booth opened up, we just moved there… And nobody cared. For 10 minutes. After forever, one of the three workers finally approached us to take our order. Rather than understanding and writing down what we asked for(in English), she looked at the menu, implying that we had to point to whatever we wanted so she could see the Chinese name for the item. It just seemed for the rest of the time that the workers there don’t really speak or understand English, because when we asked for sugar, she thought we meant the sesame was good; when we asked for extra spoons, she thought we asked for sugar. But between those moments of difficult communication, we had to wait lifetimes to get their attention. For a total of $ 30, we had a regrettably unsatisfying experience with Tasty, and it seems none of us will be returning any time soon.

CASHONLY. And don’t you forget about that because you don’t want to be that one person who eats your dessert to find out you’ll be washing dishes because you only have $ 2 in your pocket, not $ 20. Tasty Dessert has a lot of traditional Asian sweetness. From the slush and teas to the konjac and fruits. It’s good and all but not worth the price they charge here. Other places, especially in San Gabriel, has the same items at a lower price.

Decided to try this place despite some poor reviews because I really can’t find these desserts anywhere else. It was amazing. I went with my family of six. We all ordered different items and it was all delicious. Of course I liked my mango, tapioca, coconut drink the best. It was exactly like I remembered having in Hong Kong except for the glass. We had good service and the place was clean.

For some reason, my friend wrote a review regarding our recent experience at this place, but the review was not shown up at all on Unilocal.Wondering why??? Our desserts took forever to come to our table, even though there weren’t many customers in the restaurant. The waitress seemed lost and forgot to put in one of our desserts in the system. After waiting for about 40 minutes, we decided to cancel the order and leave, but she said the order is on its way. We didn’t touch the dessert at all and left. Paid for the orders but left no tips due to bad service and bad experience.

COCKROACHALERT! Halfway eating our desserts, my friend saw a giant cockroach chilling next to her seat. It was about a good two inches in size, freaking gross. After seeing the roach, I didn’t even feel like finishing my dessert anymore. When we got the check, we asked the waiter(who killed the roach when we told her about it) if we can get a discount and she said no, so she asked to see the manager. It’s not even like we’re asking for a free meal, it’s just a discount. When we inform the manager of the insect problem, he insisted that the roach came from outside the restaurant and not from the inside of the restaurant, so cannot give us a discount. REALLY? Does it matter where the roach came from?! It’s STILLINSIDEYOURRESTAURANT. It could’ve came from the outside days ago and camped in your kitchen for a while before it decided to pay a visit to my table. AND how would he know it’s from the outside when he didn’t even see the roach? If he saw it came in from the outside, why didn’t he kill it? He was super rude, not even apologizing about anything, and just kept repeating that it’s from the outside x100 like a broken record and refuse to offer a discount. I see there was no point in continue to converse with him, so I said it’s ridiculous and we won’t be coming here anymore. Before I can even finish the sentence, he just walked away. Rude much? FYI, the desert was not«tasty» neither. It would’ve prob gotten 3 stars.

First of all, this place used to be Hui Lau Shan(a chain of dessert places in Hong Kong). Then they closed I think for a while, but reopened with the same desserts but added a food menu. They are named differently, but I still see some Hui Lau Shan logos so not sure what that is about. In any event, this review is for the dessert only. If you are craving Hong Kong desserts this is the place to be. Typically, fresh fruits are involved as well as more exotic items that are supposed to be good for you like frog reproductive organs and birds nest. I typically get something with sago in it, or the ocean coconut item, and the chewy mochi balls. I would love to give this place five stars, but it is not very consistent. Sometimes the quality is great, but sometimes it is a little off. But, I keep coming back because it can be delicious and there is no where else like it in the LA/OC area. It seems there are more of these Hong Kong-style dessert places in SF, but alas not so much here. It opens till late, especially on weekends which is a plus, but this is balanced by typically poor service.

I’ve been here a couple times and everytime I’ve been here only for dessert. They do have real food here but I have no idea how good that is. Service: good/avg. they do their job here. nothing to complain about Food tried: I only order the mango stuff. Everytime it’s been good so if you like mango, i’d say go for it. My friend ordered a drink… and then he was greedy so he ordered one to go too. My tip would be not to order drinks to go as they are quite a bit smaller than the ones they serve when dining in Parking: Parking here is ok. You either park in the plaza parking lot/underground… or you park on the street.

I noticed several reviews were posted during the summer. Perhaps their cold desserts are better than the warm ones. Ordered several desserts w sago, black sesame, tofu, mango… etc. all of them lacked flavor. It seems all 4 of our orders were missing sugar or something. The décor is confusing. On one side, there are modern booths under retro lamps. On the other were traditional wood tables w cheap plastic chairs. Perhaps we entered in the midst of a remodeling project. But overall, our desserts were not memorable.

When my friend suggested eating at a dessert place with fruit, the little light bulb in my tummy started to shine so brightly *ding ding ding*! Fruity desserts are my fave and this place made my tummy and I so happy! I got the MIXEDFRUITWITHICE($ 5.99). You actually get to pick the flavored ice(like watermelon, coconut juice, mango, etc). I had the coconut juice flavored ice topped with watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew balls, strawberries, mango, and kiwi. PLUS sago and coconut milk. It was sucha pretty presentation. How did it taste? In the words of Usher, «OMG.» Like, I wanna slap that booty good kinda good! The coconut milk made the coconut juice ice so creamy. The sago balls played around in my mouth and the fruit to munch on was so refreshing. Okay, I have to literally lift my jaw off the floor now because it was THAT good. Coco helped me out and she was really sweet and provided my friend with the wifi pw to this place. Other info to note: CASHONLY, big dessert menu that was pretty overwhelming for a first timer, and other food items include shaved ice and yummy fruit drinks. I’m going to frequent this place often during my lunch breaks or after work/school!!!

wasn’t very fond of this place back when it was hui lau shan. Just another place copying a more successful counterpart in hong kong but cannot compare to its standards. back in the days when it was still Hui Lau Shan, I used to come every now and then for their special. I think it was 99cents for… which is that white mochi ball in sweet peanuts and sesame… Just thought it was overpriced and and not that great. but a little over for 4 years later, decided to give this place another try. I always always pass by it… but never realized they changed their name. Looks like they have added main courses… and bin bin konjac’s menu to their menu LOL. decided to ask the nice waitress to recommend their most popular item and she pointed me to this mango coconut milk with black sticky rice. I was MINDBLOWN. it was SOOOGOOOD… the other fruit desserts she suggested were mediocre. I can cut up watermelons and melons in little balls and serve you if you like. but this mango coconut black sticy rice guy is AMAZING. MUSTTRY. Brought my friend here the next time around and she loved it as well. Another thing to mention is the lighting. I really like how its so bright in here. Makes the dessert look more vibrant and enhances my mood and eyes for yummy asian dessert. although the mochi balls are no longer 99cents:(, I’ll definitely be hitting up this spot again. check out my picture :)

3.5 stars. Good Asian dessert, but a little overpriced. I had: mango combination(mango pudding, purée, and ice cream, $ 7) and BF had the mango with coconut milk, grapefruit, mango pudding and purée($ 7). We also ordered a watermelon drink with sago($ 4). This is not a «true» dessert café; they also serve meals. Everything was a refreshing change from the usual SFHK desserts. Mango pudding in SF is rarely good. Previous reviewers mentioned that Tasty Dessert puts the Creations name to shame in SF, but I disagree. Creations has almost no variety in their desserts and most of the time their stuff is too icey and the fruit are not ripe. My mango dessert was verrrry filling. The purée was fresh(no strings), mango was ripe and sweet, pudding was very good. The only part I didn’t care for was the mango ice. I liked my BF’s order better — the coconut milk was a nice addition to all that mango. My only complaint is the service. The waitress was SO rushy! She asked two times for our orders before we were ready, once when she knew my BF had gone out to get cash!(???)
