The name of this establishment evolkes tastes and experiences of far away places. Maybe 20 years ago it was like that, I remember getting fresh sandwiches there way back when. Nowadays I can’t imagine how they stay in business, you find shelves with a few cans of pickled figs, dusty bags of unidentifiable grains and other such unsavoury offerings. The women behind the register seem baffled by simple questions and requests. Buying a pack of cigarettes involves a complex shuffling of papers and confusion over how much to charge. Last time I braved a trip there for smokes and a coke there was a group of loud bearded men arguing in back of the store. The cashier seemed more focused on them as she tried to figure out how much to charge me. Plus, to add insult to injury they now have the audacity to charge $ 8.45 for a generic pack of smokes! I’d like to see this place turn around and be a local beacon of international variety as it once was. As of now, it’s a pathetic joke.
