All the dishes here are authentic Wuhan style, I’ve visited here twice in a week, none of the dishes we ordered has failed us. They really reminds of the cuisine I had in Wuhan. Highly recommended if you love spicy food or you grew up in Wuhan or Hubei Province.

Every time when my family travel to LA, we always like to go to chinese restaurant and have authentic Chinese food. This fall we did too, and stopped by this restaurant. The menu looked really good, and authentic traditional Chinese. But when we started tasting the dishes, they were shocking. The frog meet dish, which supposed to be Szechuan or Hunan style, was made with Jalapeño. Other spicy dish too. No taste at all, plain dry spicy. Not the kind of Chinese spicy at all. When we talked to the owner and the chef, we noticed they are from Northeast China(东北人)。 We believe they do not have any Chinese culinary training either. We end up not being able to eat much at all. We did not feel like packing the food to go either. Such a bad experience! We are so disappointed with LA!

Surprising really really good. We got the 609 the Chen du fried rice, 701 pork and bamboo, and mapo tofu. Wish mapo tofuu had some meat in it but loved everything especially the pork and bamboo. Will be back!

Truly great Chinese food. They have a lot of Wuhan specialties here, all of which are delicious. I’m especially fond of the 热干面。I’ve yet to try anything here that I did not like. I highly recommend this place!

Excellent Dry Hot Pot. Located on the 2nd floor of the 99 Ranch plaza, this is one of the many excellent restaurants at this plaza. It sells Wuhan style food(don’t really know what that is) and the selections on the menu are quite impressive(in numbers and photo appeal). The highlight of our meal was the dry hot pot. You can select 2 different kinds of meats and we went with the squid and the beef tripe(a very tasty combination but also very spicy). The menu has several items that we’d like to try next time. Will definitely come back soon.

It’s a Hubei province style restaurant where I came from. I have been here 4 times until one day they gave me beef while I asked for lamb

Ambiance 3⁄5: simple decorated family style restaurants with comfortable seats Service 2⁄5: sort of impatient and pushy, not very attentive, after we got seated had to remind waitresses a few time to place order and get water Food 4⁄5: in general great Wuhan hot dry noodles — *** thick sesame sauce, tasted ok «Dou Pee» — *** signature dish, taste good Pumpkin Cake — *** crispy and sweet Spicy Hot Pot — **** choose vegetables as base then select at least two add-one, vegetables $ 8.99 + shrimp $ 8.99 + bullfrog $ 10.99 + luncheon ham $ 6.99, shrimp and ham tasted delicious, the portion for bullfrog is too small, other than that, recommend Special Homemade Steak — **** delicious beef and potatoes, recommend Dried/Hanging Pot with Beef, Tendon, Tripe — **** flavorful and spicy, recommend Price 3⁄5: decent portions and reasonably priced, expect $ 20 each

Many varieties of dishes, we chose shrimps, frog… spicy as stated, taste can be better, I prefer Dong Ting Chun, the restaurant next door, as it tastes better. The texture of shrimps like mud, guess they are not fresh. Here the service sucks, the waitress spent most of her time look at the mirror, but didn’t clear our table: full of shrimp shells and bones on the dishes, I have no mood to eat. The restroom not clean enough, we won’t go again. Unlike the name, not too happy nor tasty.

Located on the second floor of the Focus Mall on Valley Blvd, Happy Tasty(yes, another Chinese eatery with the name Tasty in it) offers authentic Chinese food. I don’t know what kind, but I am guessing from some province in China(not Taiwanese). If you speak Mandarin, all the power to you cause your ordering experience will be lot more efficient. In any event, tried the pork short ribs, hanging beef pot, spicy fish filet, beef and potatoes, fried rice, and pork rice dumplings. From that list, I would recommend the spicy fish filet, beef and potatoes, and hanging beef pot. The pork short ribs were more bone than meat. The ratio was like 99 to 1 in terms of bone to meat. Quite disappointing. The sauce was decent, kind of like a sweet glaze. So, unless you like sweet pork bones to knaw on, don’t order this dish. The pork rice dumplings were totally off, in respect to texture and taste. First of all, when you attempt to pry off the dumplings from the plate, they stick. Now you have ½ a dumpling with the other half still on the plate. Regardless of this unfortunate experience, the taste wasn’t all that great either. The pork needed more wine fusion to pair down that porky taste. The hanging beef pot and spicy fish filet were pretty good, especially if you like that mouth numbing spicy action. It’s not spicy to the point of suffering, but just enough heat to allow for a succulent mouth-watering experience. Eat those with rice, and you’re good to go. I especially liked the dried tofu skins in the fish filet pot. The beef and potatoes were pretty good too, but most of the beef ribs had too much fat. I spent some time cutting off the fat than enjoying this dish, but the taste was there. It’s more of a braised beef dish. The fried rice was standard. Parking can be difficult during peak periods. Service was generally okay, but could have been quicker for a fast casual Chinese joint.

Happy Tasty is my new favorite restaurant. We came here three times in two weeks after discovering it. How did we discover it? Walking by I saw a sign that said«Happy Tasty.» I like happy, and I like tasty. Sold. Luckily, the sign didn’t lie. The first few times we went they didn’t have english menus(now they do), so my lady ordered, and she done good. This is my very white description of the food: we had some beef and peppers in a metal pot, which is heated over a flame at your table. Freakin’ awesome. It gets spicier as it heats, so I was crying and my nose was running, but that’s pretty much what we wanted. We also had re gan noodles(I think!). They were good, but not my favorite. But that’s not why you’re here, right? Now for the best: beef and potatoes in bowl. See, I told you these are white descriptions. This dish is holy crap good. It’s like something my family in PA would make, but with a Chinese twist and spices. Comfort food, and not crazy spicy. Beware: they run out of this dish, so maybe ask when you walk in the door. Since the first time, we just keep ordering those dishes. One time we got something else, but beef/peppers and beef/potatoes are so good that we’ve switched back. Portion sizes are good. For two of us, two dishes is about right; three was pushing it. Normally our bills come to around 30 or 35, so reasonably priced, too. Service is always excellent. The same two women are always front of house(learned that term on top chef), so I’m guessing it’s a small/family business, which is nice. Happy, tasty, dry pots, spice-tears = favorite restaurant.

We went in and ordered a few quite common Chinese dishes. We did not like the taste. It seems the chef is not much better than an inexperienced amateur cook…

one of only 3 authentic wuhan restaurants in the US.(and all three are in the SGV) the white people in my lunch party enjoyed it more than i did(two of them also posted reviews here). that’s not to say it wasn’t good but i thought it a little pricey based on serving size. but when you’re only 1 of 3 restaurants in the US serving this regional cuisine you can do that i guess. try the shrimp donuts. they’re more like crispy crullers. the braised pork belly with pickled veggies and steamed buns is also pretty good. the dry pots are good, but primarily spicy peppers and probably have only $ 1 worth of meat in them for which they’re charging something like $ 12. again, when you’re only 1 of 3 restaurants in the US serving this regional cuisine you can do that i guess.

A new resident in the two level restaurant mall next to Ranch 99 on Valley Blvd., «Happy Tasty» is a fun addition to the neighborhood with really excellent Wuhan style food. What an odd name. I guess it makes sense in Chinese. We came down for our weekly Friday lunch adventure. Wuhan food is fun because it’s a little different than the usual choices at Cantonese or Mandarin places that are much more common. It’s from an area in the middle of China. We had heard that the dry hotpot was a good thing to try. We ordered medium. It was tasty but waaaayy hot — loaded with dry red peppers and fresh green ones — but the taste was just excellent. Barry and Vaughan wanted to try the seafood donuts — I wasn’t as crazy as they were about this — they were ok but nothing special. We got a load of the steamed dumplings — filled with rice and pork. These were not spicy at all — in fact — I put a little of the sauce from the hotpot on them and they were good that way. We had some peanutty noodles that were pretty good. The braised pork belly was really nice too. Served with pickled vegetables, they had slow cooked it and most of the fat had melted away. They have been open a month now and still don’t have any kind of English language menu. Ordering in a place with no English menu is a challenge. My Chinese reading ability is pretty limited, and my friends know even less, so we ended up pointing to pictures of interesting things on the menu and asking the waitress for suggestions. This worked out fine. Everyone agreed that the food here is top notch. It’s not super cheap, by San Gabriel standards, but still a lot cheaper than P F Changs, and the food much better and more interesting. If you are looking for change from Cantonese or Mandarin Chinese places, this could be a very good place to try. It’s new, we hope they do well.

We came looking for Wuhan style Chinese, and the 6 things we ordered were fantastic! Dry Hot Pot is unique, spicy and tasty. Shrimp donuts are absolutely worth trying! Braised pork with pickled veggies and white buns too! This place is only about a month old and I hope it sticks around.
