Crazy Crab is not too far from where I live, so I grabbed two friends and decided to check this place out The food here was pretty good. We got cajun crab, cajun shrimp and a couple of side dishes. Everything was good. Service was good as well. They have a bunch of TVs everywhere, so there are a couple of different things playing the background(mostly sports though). Lots of parking in the back.

This place is closed ‘for remodeling’ now. The food here is actually good. I used to come here twice a week. The middle sized oysters were the freshest in town and I have never had a spoiled one. I also like the flavor of the cajun shrimp. Their skewers are a bit too salty, but they also have a big menu of some very good reasonably priced dishes. I don’t know why the ratings were so low. I have been here 30+ times and have never had a long wait for food or bad service. I hope they aren’t closing for good. I guess I should write good reviews sooner next time.

I don’t know why Crazy Crab doesn’t have many good reviews, but I’m going to take in a breath and trust that my visit will not be a rare one. The location’s always presented as an oyster bar, so people are prone to avoiding it, but in reality, the place has so much more. They have a parking lot on the side, and its not-so-great proximity to the train isn’t very noticeable — I didn’t once hear a train go by when I was inside. There’s only one waitress, but it wasn’t very crowded so we were fine. I went with the boyfriend and his family(combined, 6 people) and were seated immediately, given bibs, gloves, napkins, plates, and menus. On the table: Half a dozen oysters on the half shell Scallop fried rice(dried scallops) Chicken ginger soup(Half chicken, aka one pot — the full chicken is two pots) One pound of spicy cajun shrimp One corn yakitori. Masago fried rice(fish egg fried rice) The raw oysters were drained of the brine, so although they were pretty fresh, they were lacking that little something. They were plated with a side of marinara and lemons.(+) ~$ 12/half dozen or $ 20/dozen The scallop fried rice… Well, I can just say scallop fried rice. Decent, but not mind blowingly necessary to order.(+/-) $ 12 The chicken ginger soup, half chicken, was really gingery. It came hot on a mini stove and was, in my opinion, essential in calming my stomach down, as the fried rice and cajun shrimp was a little heavy for my taste.(+) $ 20+ The spicy cajun shrimp was DELICIOUS. It came with a corn on the cob soaking in all of the excess sauce, and the flavors were definitely all there. It might have been salty in the past(yeah I see you, old Unilocal reviews!) but on this occasion, it was spot on. Believe me, I hate too-salty foods.(+) ~$ 9/lb The yakitori section of the menu, Unilocal world, does not entail chicken. One in my group ordered the corn, expected a skewer with chicken and corn, but alas, received two pieces of grilled corn. Beware when you order!(-) $ 3 The Masago fried rice, dear lord. The texture, flavor, taste — it’s all there. I would come back just for this. Little bits of fish eggs throughout every bite and scoop of fried rice. So. freaking. good.(+++++++++) $ 10 They have cheap pints(and pitchers) of beer(three beers on tap), and a ton of LCD TVs on their walls showing various sports games. While they have room to grow, I think Crazy Crab’s got what it takes. Until the next visit, I’ll be craving that Masago fried rice. Mmmm.

They have the right Cajun flavor going, but it was way too salty. Overall, pretty good for a restaurants grand opening, they have plenty of time to perfect their flavor.

Very weird place… They definitely have an identity crisis, can’t decide if they want to be a Cantonese restaurant, or to go all out and become a crab/crawfish place. The shrimp were good but had a strange taste in the sauce. I still prefer the Boiling Crab or BoatHouse sauces.

MEH. it was okayyyyy. Crazy Crab? I still call it My Friends Oyster Bar. HAHA that name just never leaves… Drinks: Came here last night to watch the Clippers Game. Wanted to start off with some sake so we looked at their menu and then they told us they only have 1 kind. Nigori. Cant go wrong. also ordered a pitcher of beer. Food: half a dozen of raw oysters. YUMYUM very fresh. French fries. 2 orders of chicken skin skewers, gizzards. grilled chicken wings was okay decent flavor. but I hate that it only comes in 2 pieces per plate. Salt & Pepper Calamari was pretty good. Chicken knuckles was alright. and Scallions and egg friend rice — now that was pretty yummy. it comes in a pretty big plate too… Our bill came out to a total of $ 95 and some change. For reawson, i feel like thats kind of a lot for appetizer type of food but then again, I didnt check how much the alcohol was so maybe this was okay. haha. The server could smile here and there though. Having a frown all night long doesn’t make it a very friendly envoirnment. Girl with the glasses — CHEERUP! You dont know all the problems in the world! :)

Clams and shrimp were OK, House oysters were very fresh. They weren’t busy, so service was pretty good. Will go again.

As far as skewers and environment I would give it 3.5−4 stars but since the name of the place is called crazy crab I would’ve expected a boiling crab type place. They only have one sauce and one level of spicy for their Cajun seafood. The sauce wasn’t that good. It had a strong scent but the flavor wasn’t strong and flavorful like crabulous or boiling crab. I would recommend this place for a hang out place to snack on skewers and appetizers but not for the Cajun crawfish.

Food was ok. The Cajun crab, clam & shrimp had way too much garlic & too salty. Drank at least a gallon of water when I got home.

This is just a mini size(both restaurant and menu) of Boiling Crab and Cajun Symthony, but the food quality is definitely not bad at all. I went to this place mostly because of their raw oyster. It is only $ 1.00 each. There is only one type of oyster there, but the oysters are always fresh and tasty(not the Mexican oysters which have no oyster flavor). I tried the Cajun(non spicy) style clam with my wife 2 nights ago and it was as good as Boiling Crab. I tried the fried rice, cajun shrimp, grill chicken steak, and other stuffs in different times and they could always maintain the quality of the foods. A place that worth to try.

My parents came here the other night and my mom asked me to write a review on her behalf. that’s how bad it was. Apparently there’s only one person working here as the cashier/waiter, so service is virtually nonexistent. The cajun shrimp was overcooked and had no flavor, the fried rice was disgusting, and why would you ever trust a place that sells Filet Mignon for $ 20? They basically glued together different pieces of meat and tried to pass that off. Worst $ 80 ever spent, save your time and money and go to Boiling Crab.

Wanted to try this place out after it replaced my beloved My Friend’s Oyster Bar. Honestly, it’s the EXACT same food as before; they just added an additional Cajun portion of their menu. I even asked and it’s like the same chefs and same employees. Oysters on the half shell are still CRAZYGOOD and on sale for $ 1.00 each! Pitchers of beer are still cheap as hell. I’ll gladly come here for a Laker game any day of the week! Even better, they now have HD flatscreen TVs for the games! Come try this place out… though they are not as crowded as before, it is still worth the trip to try their amazingly fresh oysters and yummy yakitori options. Check in from Unilocal and get an extra 10% off your entire bill! NOTE: The Unilocal hours are wrong here. They do not open at 3pm… they open at 5pm. But even when we found that out by arriving at 4, the manager there still welcomed us in and served us. How nice.

I really wanted to like this place. I really really did. I saw the reviews. I was told about it… but this place had so many faults that I just couldn’t. So we come and park in the back. Lots of parking available. There is a front and back entrance into the restaurant. We enter and it’s like a sports bar in the front and in the back a restaurant. it has tons of TVs and it looks cool. 1. They are NOLONGER a Cajun place. They serve Seafood Chinese food. So do not expect Boiling Crab or Crabulous or anything similar to that. They now serve it Chinese style… and I was cool with that. 2. They were affected by the wind storm and lost power so a lot of the foods they had on their new menu were not available. Again. I was cool with that. Totally understand. … Then it got to the SERVICE part. We ordered the Dungeness Crab($ 14.99/lb) and were told they were about 1.5lbs each crab, so we ordered two crabs. We also ordered the Ong Choy with Bean curd and Stir Fried Shrimp… and then fries since I watched the guy make the fries and he did it really quick, so I wanted to snack on something. There were about three tables — one full of loud obnoxious drinkers player games(no food, just alcohol), a table full of kids with some adults and another table of elderly people. It took 35 minutes to finally get something(YES, I timed it) … anything… and that was the easy to make FRIES. My fiancé and I were just sitting there… waiting. I had to call the waitress to get us our teas refilled. After that, I think she noticed my annoyed look and then checked if our teas needed refilling. We got one crab 15 min after the fries. The crab was alright. It was typical sauce I’ve had at other Chinese restaurants. They were large pieces… kinda too big for 1.5lb-er but we were hungry(ended up being $ 70 worth of crab… so much for 1.5lbers). We got the other crab eventually and the owner apologized for the delay. Then we got our Ong Choy in Bean Curd and it was alright. It had a spicy taste to it which I love spiciness. So that was good. We were almost done with the crab and the ong choy and thought… where is our shrimp? Stir fried shrimp shouldn’t take an hour? I called the waitress and asked about the shrimp and she stared at me blankly and said«I FORGOT»… I told her to forget about it. I didn’t want to wait another 30 minutes. … she forgot my order… … The other people in the restaurant were friends with the owner and waitresses and they were really getting a lot of attention. There was a new table that came in 20 min after us– large table — and they got their appetizer before we even got anything. Eventually after we got our food, they asked us if everything was ok… which kinda annoyed me because they were walking around and standing around us and it took OVERANHOUR to ask if we were ok. Thanks. The waitress’s friends — the loud obnoxious group that were playing games and drinking — got more attention than us. It was kinda aggravating too… because they were SOLOUD. Kinda nice if they asked them — esp since she knows them — to tone it down a bit. But… they didn’t and the loud obnoxious voices continued. Overall… My fiancé and I really felt neglected. Really not cool to act that way to new paid customers. I was really disappointed in my experience here. NOTES: Check in Unilocal or FB, get 10% off bill.

A friend suggested this place last week to give a try, it was the old oyster bar location but now turns into a cajun crab boil joint. We ordered a dozen of raw oysters for appetizer that were fresh and yummy, and tried a few other things from the menu including clams, mussel, king crab, shrimp, lobster(thats right! 1 whole maine lobster), sausage, corn, cajun fries, potato that served in a plastic bag steaming in a tasty broth that is spicy, garlicky, buttery. It tastes very similar and just as good as the whole shebang sauce from boiling crab. Overall our group all agreed the food was surprisingly delicious. I disagree with the previous 2 star review that doesn’t do this place any justice, the waitress were very attentive thru out the meal, our drinks were always refilled and the food was not bland at all. The décor is fine with me, this joint is more like a restaurant than a sports bar anyway. I will definitely return.

this review is long overdue since I came here to eat last wednesday, and i’ve been wanting to rave about this place ever since!(and now, finally, i have the time!) :D Crazy crab is about 40 minutes from where i live which is forever away if you are starving. You could imagine my appetite and how upset i would be if crazy crab did not satisfy my hunger, and thank God it didn’t! for the light stuff we had: clam chowder that came with saltine crackers — usually i’m not impressed with any kind of chowder or soup(i’m not a soup person) but omg, it was so yummy(just the right saltiness, viscosity, and bits n pcs of clam and other stuff) sweet potato fries– all i can say is sweet and potatowee? how fancier can sweet potato fries get anyways? then we got down to bidness ;) i’m not sure how many lbs we ordered, cuz our friend ordered for us in chinese but we got: 2 rounds of 2 kinds of oysters(i started drooling after i paused and reminisced) a dozen each round. sweet and fresh! my friends and i tapped the shells together, yelled«CHEERS!» and finished every single oyster on those plates we had shrimp, dungeness crab, and clam all in a mild spicy cajun garlic mixture with a kick in the end. each bag came with baked red potato, corn, and sausage mmmmmmm :9 their cajun sauce is almost like the other places like boiling crab or boiling crawfish, but there’s something different, an ingredient i can’t name for the life of me that makes me crave Crazy crab specifically. we washed each mouthful down with a nice cold pitcher of Kirin beer: D dining experience: the waitresses were very attentive(aside from that they were very pretty) with refills and bibs and my stuff falling all over the floor(she picked it up for me like twice i think haha). you eat with your hands, which is the only way i would eat awesome seafood anyways jus to get that islandy fresh feel to it(wish they would give me a banana leaf to eat on haha). the manager Hanh is FUNNY!(he had the time to chit chat with us and make us feel like we were regulars at the restaurant) ambiance: we went here on a wednesday night and it wasn’t too crazy in there. aside from us there were 2 other parties of 4 – 8 in the restaurant.(all asian ofcourse) location: this restaurant is actually located on a busy street, im surprised it didn’t have more people that night we went(well maybe cuz its also just their 2nd week being open). this place has the potential to be «The IT place» to hang out and chill since they have a pretty cool patio with tvs” and different colored lights to add to the mood. the parking lot is sizable for that weekday, i am not sure if it would be a pain in the butt for a busy weekend, but it looked pretty big to me(it’s in the back btw) overall comment: i would definitely come back again as soon as i lose the 5 lbs i wolfed down that night hahaha i’ll be sure to bring more friends cuz this is definitely a place to have fun, grub, and have a brew or two. can’t wait for this place to be the«it» place so we can all just have fun and full bellies and be able to say we were the cool kids that found this place before all the other cool kids found it” hahaha. hope u guys check it out! definitely worth it!

Everything here tastes mighty delicious. So far I’ve tried the shrimp, mussels, clams, dungeness crabs, house oysters, and Kumamoto oysters. All of the above tastes fresh and never frozen. I would definately come back here for their food and drinks(beer, sake, and wine.) Plus don’t miss out on their 3 – 6 pm happy hour specials. Im coming back here next week with my friends and family!

First time I went the clams were a bit too salty. I gave it another try last week and they got big improvement! This time I finally got to try the crab legs and they were so fresh! I know there will be more new stuff coming out soon, so I think it is time to plan for my 3rd visit~~~

Came here thinking it was still Oyster Bar. Didn’t realized the restaurant changed but since my family and I drove over there we decided to try the place out. We ordered 2 pounds Shrimp, 1 Pound Clams, 2 Pounds King Crab Legs, 2 Pounds Dungenous Crab, 1 order Cajun Fries, 1 dozen raw Oysters and their Special Fried Rice. Although we over ordered we really enjoyed their food. It is a Cajun food place but they surely have their own cajun style sauce. We finished most of their food and actually have to take some home. Even though we took the leftovers home we were still able to eat it the next day and it still tasted like it did the night before. Nothing lost flavored and nothing became soggy besides the fries(obviously). I will be coming back here more often with my family because there was no wait and the waitresses were really nice and came to our assistance whenever we needed them.

This place has taken place of a beloved oyster bar and has changed into another Cajun seafood joint. I guess it deserved a chance. The price is pretty high up there. I think they match up to the prices at Boiling Crab. So about $ 9-$ 10 for a lb of shrimp or clam. They also serve crab legs and crawfish at market price. Oysters were $ 7-$ 8 for half a dozen and $ 9 for a pitcher of here. $ 3 for cajun/french/sweet potato fries. $ 5 for fried skewers and $ 12 for fried rice. Yes, fried rice. I think that’s all I remember for now. The servers. yeah. Not tentative at all. There were 3 tables with 4 servers, but we got irritable just for them to notice us. They just stand there. and after we got our order in, the other 3 came and asked for our order again. They need to work on their communication skills. Maybe I got upset because the other table that came after us got served first. My friend and I decided to try their clams, shrimp, oysters, Cajun fries and beer.(Yes, we are those two chubby girls that make buffets bankrupt.) The oysters were nothing to rave about. Maybe it’s not in season so it was a bit musty. They serve lemons, horse radish and marinara sauce with it. Their clams was soo damn salty! I needed to add extra lemon juice with every bite. Same sauce on the shrimp(NOTE: They only have ONE type of sauce. You just get to choose the spiciness level). The shrimp is salty on the outside but bland on the inside. The flavors just didn’t get through /: The whole thing tasted very Asian. I swear I tasted Hoison sauce in it. Well, at least they got the whole butter and garlic thing down, but that was pretty much it. After the pretty unsatisfying seafood, we got the fries. Thank God we did. It was actually not bad at all. Crispy and fluffy. Yums. I would probably come back for the cheap beer and fries, but I’m not sure if the whole Cajun smell is worth it though. Maybe I’ll give it another shot one day when I’m feeling adventurous but as of now, I’m trying to void any restroom surprises.
