«Jajangmyeon or jjamppong?» If you’re alone, then get the jajangmyeon. But if you’re with a friend or a group, you should get the jajangmyeon and also the jjamppong and then share both. The handmade noodles are delicious since it’s perfectly chewy and soft. Big portions, delicious food, and cheap prices at under $ 10 makes me feel like I’m back in Seoul again. Tang su yuk is a perfect pair for jajangmyeon as well but I haven’t tried it yet here since it’s $ 16 but next time, I would definitely come and get it. Their kimchi fried rice is okay. It’s a bit lacking in kimchi flavor and I think it doesn’t stand out on its own but it is good as a side complement to the rest of the dishes that have a lot of flavor such as the jajangmyeon and jjamppong.

I’m Korean, and this place reminded me of Chinese restaurants in Korea from 1970s. Back then, the menu was pretty concise with jajangmyeon, jampong, and dumplings as the main menus and few other dishes like tangsueyuk and ganpoongki. It was also fun seeing Korean families walking in for dinner. Reminded me of my own childhood. Anyway, went there for early dinner with my friend(who was willing to try jajangmyeon after seeing it on Korean dramas) and ordered that and gan poong ki. Jajangmyeon was quite good, actually. Similar to those you can find in Korea, and it was a way for me to recollect on my last jajangmyeon in Korea(which was two years ago). I was a bit disappointed in the ganpoongki though. I’m sure those who have been to Korea agree, but ganpoongki is supposed to be spicy. But it tasted more like a typical sweet and sour pork that you could get at a cheap Chinese takeout. But I’m still giving four stars because not only the chicken was fried very well still, but also this is America where the Korean restaurants have to adjust to the taste buds of the locals. If you are Korean or you’ve been to Korea and miss the jajangmyeon, it’s a good place to visit! $ 8.55 for a bowl in my opinion is quite cheap, considering that this is the ONLY place where you could get it in the Bay Area.

Came here on a Thursday night for dinner with my boyfriend and sister. They weren’t too busy so we got seated right away. We ordered the black bean noodles which came in two separate dishes: the noodles and the sauce — mix it well because the sauce is everything! I made the mistake of not fully mixing it so my noodles were bland until I mixed it a lot more. We also had bulgolgi with rice which was decent but the spicy soup that came alongside it tastes better than the main dish itself — liked the kick of spicy but it was endurable. We also had the rice cake soup with dumplings which was yummy because I always liked that dish. I did notice that they liked to add bell peppers in everything because it was in my rice cake dumpling soup and the spicy side soup. Would probably return since it’s super closeby my home but I’ve had better. The total for three orders for three people with none leftover was around $ 40(including tax and tips).

Came in here on a rainy afternoon for a late lunch. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time. I ordered the za zang myun, which came out pretty quickly. The noodles were absolutely delicious for something that looked rather simple by appearance. I was quite impressed. It came with a side of daikon and raw onions, a spoonful of black bean paste. I finished the noodles quite fast and left pretty satisfied. I wouldn’t say this was the best noodles I’ve ever had, but it’s quick and cheap. It’s also a nice alternative to ramen or phở, and is certainly something different to try.

Not from SF, so I’m not sure about if there are lot of places to get jajangmyun and jampong but it’s pretty mediocre here. The noodles were alright but the sauce and soup were both kind of bland. The jajangmyun could have used some potatoes. The jampong did have a lot of seafood which was real nice. Not the best but it was close by work so that’s what I liked. It was very busy to have just one waitress for the store but she was still very nice.

This was the second time I came here and unfortunately it wasn’t as good as I remembered, mostly because the jjajangbap sauce was lukewarm.

I’ve been watching Korean dramas for the past decade and have always wanted to try jajangmyeon. This place is quite well known for the dish, so we decided to give it a try. The taste was good, but wasn’t any special or something you’d get a kick out of. The japchae was also a bit lacking. Perhaps I will give it another try next time.

Craving korean jajangmyeon, stopped by on Saturday. Really charming little place. Ordered #3 the spicy Gan zazang. It was a huge portion. The noodles were super fresh and hand made and the jajang sauce is spot on, not too salty. Could barely finish half so take the rest for another meal. I wanted to try the crab soup noodles next time!

The run down exterior and inconspicuous location definitely classifies this mom and pops establishment as a hole in the wall. I’ve probably driven past this place a hundred times and have never noticed its existence until it was pointed out to me. Boy, am I glad I gave this place a shot. As most Unilocalers have noted — the Zam Pong is a must try. The spicy soup had a good kick and was extremely flavorful. It really complemented the soft, chewy in-house pulled noodles, not to mention the loads of seafood that accompanied it. (I’d definitely come back again whenever the craving for spicy noodle soup can’t be contained by sheer willpower) We also ordered the fried chicken pieces, it was moist and came with some sweet & spicy dipping sauce. However, I must say, the ratio of breading to chicken could use some adjustment. Too much breading for too little chicken. Lastly, we ordered the Jap Chae, but it was a lot more«wet» or «moist» than we’d prefer. The yam noodles came swimming in sauce. However, it did come with a good amount of meat and veggies. Final verdict, this place surpassed my expectations(since it was extremely low based on prejudice first impressions).

One of my favorite homey Korean places to eat! I’ve came here on numerous occasions and it is still delicious. They are know for their jajangmyun which is a black bean noodle which the sauce is the best. While I think the noodles are a tad bit too thick for my liking, overall it is great. I have also gotten the tang sue yuk which I myself am not a fan of because I don’t really care for the sweet and sour flavor but overall it is fried well and it is quiet a large platter. The kimchi fried rice is always great to get and it fed four of us on top of some other dishes. I would suggest the fried chicken for sure! It is sweet and has a nice spicy kick to it and it came same hot that when we left with our leftovers after it still kept my hands warm. They were pretty large wings and our plate had at least 12 wings on there.

This is my go-to location in SF for Korean-style Chinese noodles… aka jajang myun. The flavor a are fairly close to what you’d get in LA’s koreatown with the only exception that I think this place is about 20% more expensive(dishes in average $ 10 – 12) but that’s probably because the price of everything is at least that much more than the next most expensive city. I’m typically a big fan of the combo jajang myun-jampong dish with a specialized bowl with a divider in the middle to hold the black bean noodles and the spicy seafood noodle soup. However, this place hasn’t caught on to that idea yet… as simple as it is to implement. I’ve mentioned it to them and they apologized… but maybe my review will motivate them… because sometimes it’s nice to have a little bit of both. Otherwise you have to come with a date and each order one to share the dish… and we all know that that can get a bit messy with all that black bean sauce going all over the place. Anyway, the service is quick and the food is good and so I like coming here. If you want to see what the combo is all about then I suggest going across the Bay Bridge to Oakland and visiting Koryo Jajang.

After watching the couple in a Korean drama eat black bean noodles for the longest time, I had a craving. Here’s what I had: Gan Za Zang — Homemade noodles served with beef and vegetables in black bean sauce on the side. Boiled Shrimp Pot-stickers — Homemade poached pot-stickers stuffed with shrimp and vegetables. Gan Poong Shrimp — Deep fried battered shrimps served with sweet chili sauce on the side. I liked the black bean homemade noodles even though it may seem a little bland to some people. The shrimp pot-stickers mixed in with the black bean noodles is delicious. We ordered the Gan Poong,(fried chicken with sweet chilli sauce) but instead they brought out Gan Poong Shrimp by mistake. This was totally fine because the shrimps were really good. I would come back!

We should have ordered the home made noodles which is the specialty here. But it was a hot day and the restaurant doesn’t have AC. We waited a while for our food. There is one waitress, one busboy and probably one person in the kitchen. It was lunch time and the place was almost full. Not too prepared for the crowd with such a minimal staff. We wanted to avoid spicy food so we decided not to order anything that has the hot pepper symbol. WRONG! We ordered the Go Choo Jap Chae which is clear yam noodles with beef, bell peppers and onions. We asked for no onions because one of my dining companions cannot tolerated onions. The waitress said ok but then they included onions in the dish anyway, and the dish was SPICY. My companion tried to avoid the onions but ended up getting diarrhea anyway after the meal as a result. We also ordered the Chicken Wings, which we didn’t expect to be over-fried with a crust so thick that there was barely any meat. The wings were coated with a sweet glaze which was also SPICY. We had waited such a long time for the food and check that we decided not to try ordering anything non-spicy. So if you eat here, beware that just because there is no hot pepper symbol that doesn’t mean the dish is not spicy. If I return here, I will try the noodles and see what happens is I request non-spicy. Who knows — maybe they will say ok and make it spicy anyway.

I’m a huge Korean drama fan: D and because of that I have always wanted to try the black bean noodles. I came across this place Zazang Korean noodle so I decided to take my boyfriend to eat here. I came here on weekdays(Tuesday) around 3pm and as soon as we entered we were greeted and sat down. The owner(I think) unnie gave us water and utensils then went back to sit with her chingus(friends) who were over for lunch(I guess) and were group of 6 – 8 people. I knew what I wanted to eat and so did my bf so we ordered immediately. I ordered the the spicy Zan za zang and my boyfriend ordered bulgogi over rice. After she took our order she went back to chitchat with her friends. The place is not that spacious and we were sitting the table next to the owner and her friends table. They were talking in Korean and laughing out loud(which is totally fine and I was actually enjoying it because I can understand Korean a little) The part where I didn’t like was when her friends kept staring at us and murmuring. I felt awkward and wasn’t feeling comfortable and I thought it was very unprofessional. Overall, the food was great! I loved my spicy zan za zang it had a lot of flavors and was very tasty(beware you get a big portion so you might wanna share). My boyfriend loved his bulgogi as well. Food: A++ Price: decent Service: C(eh. We didn’t get much attention! They could have done better) Parking: is a hassle since they don’t have their own parking lot. Good luck!

Noodle comfort food in a weird, inception-y building within a building. The Restaurant’s Restaurant: Maybe to make up for the less than appealing façade, Zazang decided to build their ideal restaurant inside their restaurant. Replete with an indoor roof, and a side courtyard. Kitchy, but endearing all the same. The Noodle: Enough to feed a whole family, their portions are truly enormous. The words thick, glutinous, and tasty come to mind as I’m recalling my meal. I wish they would do a finer job dicing the ingredients however, the rough chop on veggies can take things too far into home cooked territory. A couple beers or a long day, and I could see coming here for an unpretentious, filling meal.

I have been craving zazang noodles(mainly because of korean dramas haha) for awhile and decided to check this place out. Came on a weekday around 5 pm, I think. The place wasn’t busy at all, but the food took awhile to came out, which I suppose is a good sign, assuming they are making it on the spot. Anyways my friend got the Za Zang Myun, and I got the Spicy Gan Za Zang. –Za Zang Myun: C+, not much flavor, not much meat. A+ for huge portion. Not recommended as much. But I think it’s better than the one at San Tung. –Spicy Gan Za Zang: A-, rich flavor, good quantity of meat, huge portion. Definitely get this! Service: B+, a little on the slow side even though it was not busy. Recommended: yes, if you are patient, craving za zang noodles, and not a picky eater. To the business: please have a cleaner restroom.

I came here because I was crazing Za Zang myun. They give you a decent size portion and they take phone orders, which was perfect because I was heading out of the city. I was able to park right in front but traffic hours I imagine you would have to park a little farther away. The za Zang myun was very sweet and Strachey. The vegetables were onions, chopped mushrooms and possibly sweet pepper. There was also tiny tiny pieces of pork so I didn’t really get a taste of their meat. The noodles were a good chewy consistency. The service was pretty quick, just 10 minutes for phone order. Server is also very friendly. By GPS it was easy to find, it is in a busy Main Street. They only take cash if your order is under $ 10.00! But most dishes start at $ 5 – 8. Would definitely come back if I’m around the area.

I’ll admit that I’m not a connoisseur of the black bean noodle, but those who are, seem to rate this place very highly. To me, it’s good, but I can’t imagine that this is the best place to get it. The wait times here cant be pretty long, as it’s a relatively small place, with what I imagine is a pretty small kitchen. There’s usually only one person working the restaurant and she can be easily outnumbered during the lunchtime rush. The dishes are ample in size and the crowd is generally Korean families, which I take as a good sign. I’ve been instructed(by those in the know) to get the noodles and black bean sauce separately(Gan Zazang) as opposed to already mixed(Zazang myung). People seem to be pretty adamant about that and I have no idea why. Overall though, good comfort food. The health scores tend to range from low 80s to high 80s and if they were to ever successfully manage to stay in the 90s, I would probably be here more often.

I think the spicy zazang noodle is better than the regular one. The tangsuyuk is better than the kkanpoong shrimp.

pretty big portions, but insanely slow. I think their kitchen is just tiny. I ordered the spicy gan za zang which is supposed to be a spicy seafood jjm with the jjm sauce on the side. It wasn’t spicy at all, the seafood tasted super suspect(tinny taste to the clams, most likely canned) and the JJM sauce was on the sweeter size. Big portions though… I had to eat it for lunch 2 days in a row. Meh. No need to return. My quest for decent JJM continues.
