Yerba Buena Lane Farmers Market

Small and to the point, this was quite a nice surprise for a Tuesday afternoon. It’s so convenient for me it would be silly not to stock up on freshness every week. Some of the vendors try a little too hard to get you to buy something but they gotta make a buck.

Lately I’ve been stopping by on my commute home on Tuesday nights, making it just before the end of the day… and I have to say I’m so glad this little market has popped up right downtown and in my line of vision!
Yes, it’s tiny when compared to most of the others, but there are enough good quality vendors to make for a worthwhile visit. Last Tuesday, I picked up heirloom tomatoes, yellow peaches, and berries; all organic, at a great price, and of course delicious. Love.

Prices = typical.
Quality = okay. I was there after 5 p.m. and some of the produce could’ve looked better…

Really great addition to the area and at the perfect time (Tuesday afternoons). Wide variety of vendors and live music too!

Yerba Buena Pocket Market is small and fairly limited — as far as booth selection, but all of their offerings are still worth checking out.
If you’re looking to stock up on fruit, honey, or some select vegetables then make sure to cruise on over to Yerba Buena lane in the mid-​day later afternoon for some juicy nectarines, sweet strawberries and local honey. There’s usually some live music in the mix too/​
If variety is what you’re after — then you’ll probably have more luck holding out for Civic Center’s farmer’s market or Crocker Galleria Farmer’s Market.
But if some succulent fruit samples and some bizarre interpretive dance is what you’re after (there is a Farmers Market dancing groupie who will most likely be at this market — breaking out his moves) then stroll on down to Yerba Buena lane.

Today was the debut of a new small FM, located along the corridor flanked by Bluestem Brasserie, Amber India, Press Club, Tropisueno and Beard Papa’s Cream Puffs. It’s organized by the same group (UT) that manages the Mint Plaza FM, North Beach FM, and downtown San Mateo FM.
Many miss the Metreon’s FM (closed in 2009) which had mostly cooked food vendors. Though smaller, this is a better FM of mostly produce vendors. I’ve said it before LOVE FREE SAMPLES! delicious peaches from Kashiwase Farms, Blue Moon Organics, Tomatero Farms, Happy Boy Farms, Rolling Oaks Ranch eggs, Winter’s Nuts, Marshall’s Farm Honey and flowers from Sunrise Nursery, Hidden Star Orchards, and Half Moon Bay Orchids.
Just a few block away, UT’s Mint Plaza FM collaborates with restaurants (Chez Papa and Thermidor) which offer a cheap lunch takeout menu. And I’ve heard that UT wants to do the same at this YBL FM, except for the afternoon hours. I think some quick and cheap takeout food would be ideal for Metreon movie goers, since the Metreon’s food court is closed until November 2011. I’ll update when I find more info about the restaurant vendors.
