One of my favorite lunch spots along with another location on Taraval. Both now, sadly, closed. :’(

Tried to go here tonight and it looks like the place is closed for good. There was a police notice stating this.

Took a customer here for a quick lunch. Wow! Exceptionally good food and the price was right. I would return here next time I am in town.

Tried their veggie Chicago style hot dog! Very good! Wish I still worked in the city and could grab one for lunch!

This place is amazing! My boyfriend and I were going to watch Wicked and we arrived an hour before the show and with empty stomachs. We decided to walk around and look for places to eat. Originally, we wanted to go to a small restaurant, but it was packed to the door, so we decided to choose another place. We walked by this small hole-in-the-wall hotdog joint and decided to check out the menu. As someone who doesn’t eat pork, I wasn’t expecting much from this place, but once they told me that they have hotdogs made of all beef, I was sold! The hotdogs were delicious with a generous amount of toppings. I just wish they provided chairs or tables to sit at, but they are right next to burger king, so we just sat in there instead. Overall, I definitely plan on coming back when I hit the city.

pretty fun hot dog place. I got the tokyo dog and kimchi dog. I did not like the kimchi dog very much, it was literally a hot dog with kimchi, but i still finished it. Tokyo dog was pretty interesting. Over all i would come back, i am interested to try the other special dogs, but i think i would prefer an old fashion American Hot Dog over anything else.

Great place for quick bite at a reasonable price. Conveniently located a block from my work. The owner, John, is very attentive to his product. He keeps the place clean and takes care of me when I need a chili cheese dog. Friendly customer service also.

I don’t understand why this place has four stars. It’s way overpriced, service is incredibly slow, and portions are of mediocre size and taste. If it was half of what I payed for it i wouldn’t be as harsh.

What a great honor to be a duchess here! Thank you, thank you. I love hot dogs. I love ribs. I love fried chicken. I’m going to die by the time I’m 30. I’m 26 now. Whenever I get that hankering for a hot dog and am too damn lazy to walk to Costco, I go here. They have an unclassy number of toppings to choose from(kimchi, chili and cheese, American cheese, pepper jack cheese, onions, etc) and a classy number of types of dogs to choose from. It’s totally a hole in the wall(literally, you might have walked right past it and missed it completely like I have for the past year and a half). The guy who works here is pretty chill. Like chill as in you could probably smoke a bowl with him and he’d give you discounts on hot dogs. If smoking bowls were my thing. Discounts on hot dogs are definitely my thing. My Unilocal membership might be revoked now for drug references. But if it was because of a review on What’s Up Dog, it might be worth it.

Nice location along Market St in the Civic Center area. I literally walked passed this place several times, the sign up front is sure to attract people knowing that this eatery serves hot dogs. Okay, so I tried the original French Fries, Bacon Cheese Fries and Chili Cheese fries at the 2 of their other locations. Today, I came in here and ordered the Bacon Cheese Dog which is a Hot Dog with Shredded Bacon and Cheese on it. This is by far one of the most delicious hot dogs I’ve ever eaten. The staff member on duty was friendly and service was pretty quick. Quick bite for under $ 10? Affordable! Parking: — Mostly metered street parking* *Be prepoared to have spare coins or an SFMTA Parking Meter Debit Card on you!

What’s up DAWG!!! Yay, I finally found this place after all the talk I’ve heard. What’s even more funny, I came across it by accident while looking for a place to eat before getting back on Bart. The guys working at the time were funny and entertaining! It’s a small shop, big enough for you to just order, pick out a drink and some chips, and put ketchup on your dawg!!! The dogs here definitely have a snap. Other places have often talked about their dogs having a «snap», which I could never tell, except for at this place. The minute you take a bite into it, you hear it…“SNAP!!!”. They have a very interesting menu with an abundance of choices as to how you can order your dog. Normally, I would go with just a plain hot dog with ketchu, making it easier for me to assess the tastiness of the dog. This time though, I thought I would be more daring and to say the least, I was really hungry, I went for the bacon cheese dog! In a word… YUMMY!!! I was one happy girl and it’s another place on my hot dog tour that I can mark off. :) My friends who were with me, also ordered non-traditional hot dogs. One of them ordered the Kim-Chee dog.(Ewww, I know right?) My other friend ordered the Chicago style dog. I assumed they were pleased with their dogs since it was quiet and I didn’t hear one peep out of them until they finished. :) If you are ever in the City and come off of Bart, definitley look this place up and give it a try. I really don’t think you will be disappointed.

I loved the variety, but the dog was just meh. I really didn’t like the crunch with every bite going through the casing of the hot dog… it made me feel a little gross like I was eating straight up intestines. The fries were standard, but good. I would definitely go back to try one of the sausages, but I wouldn’t order another hot dog. This is just personal preference– I know a lot of people LOVE the crunch of these dogs.

I like the concept but not too thrilled with the execution. I think the hotdog stands is a much better format than a store location. There is nothing gourmet about these hotdogs. The hotdog buns are mediocre, pretty much what you could get from a grocery store. The links are alright but nothing spectacular. Even the supposedly Gourmet Sausage(had their Portuguese) was not better than what you could purchase from Costco. Good for a cheap and quick bite but don’t expect real good hotdogs here. The place is a bit run down and there are only 1 table available.(They might as well not have any at all) I do like the variety of garnish available. The Chicago Style Dog has quite a bit of kick. Skip the Jalapeño if you can’t handle spicy.

Tried this place today with a chili-cheese dog. Friendly helpful guy behind the counter. Fantastic, good price, and they accept credit cards with a 30 cent processing fee. No place to sit and eat though, it’s definitely take-out.

Tried a veggie-version chicago dog for the first time today, it was awesome! Nice fresh tomatoes and the perfect ratios of toppings. The veggie dogs are tofurkey and work pretty well as a substitute. I will say I do prefer the soft traditional bun to the crunchy-sandwich like roll they serve on the normal veggie dog. There was only one guy working in here but with the small space he makes your order fast.

Yum. After watching Psych and hearing them talk about hot dogs for five minutes, I wanted one. Like five minutes ago. I wandered over, ordered a special and though I was surprised at the skinniness of the dog, slathered it with relish and nummed it down. Non-oily, tasty and well priced. Yum indeed.

No time for a sit down lunch? Low on hard-earned cash? Then swing by What’s Up Dog! on Market and 8th.(Just around the corner from the San Francisco Main Library.) This tiny opening in a wall will provide you with delish hotdog or sausage combinations for mere change in your pocket. I had the Chicago-style VEGGIE dog for $ 4.25! Add $ 1.25 for soda and chips. Cheap, filling and not a bad deal! Yes, I know it’s not the real thing but not only it’s HEALTHY but tastes good as well! The staff are very pleasant and store is very clean. The bun is always fresh as well as the dogs. I love how they carefully pack the bun with hotdog, peppers, pickles, onions and mustard. Voila, a very carefully crafted hotdog in a bun! So what type of a dog person are you? a) Chili Cheese b) Bacon Dog b) NY Dog c) Slaw Dog d) Southern Dog e) Northbeach Dog Go to What’s Up Dog to find the correct answer!

Who are you Michael H and why did you beat me to writing the 1st review??? I’m kidding. Anyway. New lunch spot for me. Quick, simple, easy to grab and go. Ordered the Chicago Style Dog today. Very good! I think I just can’t handle spicy peppers anymore because they gave me the hiccups and then heartburn subsequently followed. It’s a-okay, I am still a fan of What’s Up Dog! Alsooooooo they’ve only been open for 5 days. If you hit up this little joint now, you can catch their grand opening promotion: free reguar can of soda & chips w/purchase!
