We just returned from the show and had such an amazing evening :) there was a lovely variety of comedians and jokes ! They had jokes for a huge section of subjects such as sex jokes, politics jokes, awkward jokes, loner jokes, kids jokes, relationship jokes, mathematics jokes, online dating jokes, phantom jokes and so much more! The chairs were very comfortable and the beers were good priced and the payment goes to charity for kids:) I definitely recommend it for evenings out with friends and dates:) my hubby and I will for sure attend again xxx

This is a very charming secret screening room in the historic Hobart Building and with an excellent location. This is a private theater and lounge with 47 stadium style plush movie theater seats. This screening room has a large reception area and lounge with cocktail tables and coffee tables a full-service wet bar flat screen TV and popcorn machine. I came for a private event but I will be back for some of the other publicized upcoming events.

Went for their comedy show. Great way to spend a friday evening! Intimate show and all the bar proceeds go to charity. Can’t beat that. Will go again!

Super cheap drinks, cheap tickets, stand up comedy, comfy seats and supports charity. They even have free water. There’s no reason not to do this.

Great, comfortable intimate venue. We were here on a Friday night for the Stand Up Comedy. The gentleman serving up drinks, who also happened to be on the board of the Variety Children’s Charity of Northern California, was cordial and full of helpful information. The show itself was good. I imagine with comedy it can be hit or miss. In this instance, we missed one of the headliners… they just didn’t show up. Thankfully, the comic on stage prior was seriously talented. He simply extended his material to keep us entertained. There were four comedians, one great, one good and two not so much. Talk about convenient, this place is right off the Montgomery BART station. For those of us that drive into the city, this was a fantastic opportunity to sit back and be chauffeured straight to the front door(essentially). The seats are very comfortable. There’s plenty of leg room and since it’s a small venue, there isn’t a bad seat in the house.

This is an awesome charity with great people who are helping make the world a better place. The venue is open to be rented out and used for private events. It’s a great spot! The seats of the theater are super comfortable too!

One of the best comedy clubs I been to, the MC was exceptionally wonderful. I would do it again.

I can’t speak highly enough about the Preview Room! Not only is it for a great cause, but the facility is beautiful, clean and spacious. It looked even better than the pictures in my opinion. I hosted my birthday party there and the staff, especially David, was super helpful and responsive. David helped me during the planning and then was on-hand on the day of the party to help with set up and projecting the movie. My guests were completely wowed! If you are looking for a unique party or meeting location, I highly recommend you give the Preview Room a try.

You think you already know what the City offers, then wow, a hidden gem. Located ground level inside the Hobart Building. Run by Variety, this venue is a nonprofit where proceeds go to support children with special needs. We were fortunate to be invited to a private screening of «Hundred Foot Journey» with Helen Mirren starring. Stadium seating for 40+ and Dolby sound. There’s a bar offering wine and your typical movie snacks minus the smell of freshly popped popcorn. The venue is available for private parties. We watched the movie, then conveniently walked to the BART Muni metro entrance station several steps away.

Perfect venue for a small group of people — our company scheduled a meeting/social gathering there and it couldn’t have been a better move. The staff was super accommodating and the space was versatile and comfortable. We’ll be booking our next event there for sure. Thanks Variety Club!

Had a fantastic time at a work offsite. The theater is very comfortable and the bar/lounge area was perfect for beverages after the day. All the proceeds from rentals of the theater go to Variety’s charitable programs for kids. A great time and a great cause!

This is a great venue to hold a nice event ranging from watching a movie screening, sporting event, or hosting a fun party up to 50 people or so. It is also versatile enough to also host corporate events including trainings, meetings, or any other off-site activities. It has a cool lobby where people can mingle along with a bar that you can bring your own food/drinks. The theater is large with comfortable seats. Great location right on Market St. in the Hobart Bldg. The staff is fantastic and very accommodating.

The Variety Screening room offers every professional amenity possible. Just screened my latest film. Had two back to back screenings with a reception in between. The sound, picture, were superb. David the manager allowed me to do a test screening and that was great. Got all the settings locked in. The reception area is perfect for a gathering. The bar area and the lighting is great. The place is spotless and superbly maintained. This was my best film yet and having a professionally screening at the Variety was the right move to move it forward!

This screening room is nothing short of incredible. I first discovered this hidden gem at the Yuppie Friday + Variety joint Oscar Party, and knew that if I ever had a friend on a reality television show I absolutely HAD to throw a viewing party here. Luckily my wildest dreams came true and a good friend of mine(Kat) was cast on The Bachelor. I rented out the Variety Club Preview Room for the airing of episode 2(to celebrate her 1:1 date), sold tickets on Eventbrite(to collect additional donations and create a budget for the event), rented a 27ft red carpet, and provided wine, a vodka lemonade drink, photography and cupcakes with Juan Pablo’s face on them to my guests. During commercials we lowered the volume and used Variety’s microphone/speaker to orchestrate Bachelor related games(bingo, rose ceremony, Q&A with my friend Kat, etc) The epic photos can be found here, and pretty much speak for themselves regarding how great this space is: They have such a great rate and a rental of their space is a donation to their charity which is awesome. I will be back!

Threw a surprise 49er themed birthday party for my boyfriends 30th birthday here and everyone was in awe at how amazing this place is. They were able to show the 49er game on the big screen and we turned the joining space into a «lounge-like» area where food and drinks were served. David was sooo helpful and made sure everything ran smooth. I definitely recommend this place to anyone trying to host any type of event… You can turn this place into your own private movie theatre with reasonable prices!

I am part of an non-profit organization that reserves the Variety Club Preview room twice per year. The venue is phenomenal! They have a great lounge area with a private bar that you can stock with whatever snacks or bevs you desire. The theater itself is both cozy and elegant all at the same time! Dave, the manager, is always very warm, kind and professional. I haven’t found any screening room in San Francisco that comes close to the ambience, affordability, and good vibes that Variety brings. Our guests always feel comfortable and welcomed. It’s like the theater next door!

We just used Variety’s Screening Room to watch two of our films with our staff and Film Advisor. We help children heal through the art of filmmaking and I can’t tell you what a difference it makes to view our films on the big screen. It’s incredibly helpful to truly experience the films together and to see what works and what doesn’t. Variety has such a convenient, warm and intimate environment. I can’t wait for our next screening there and will definitely invite funders and filmmakers since I’m proud to bring them here.

Who knew about this little place inside of the Hobart Building? What a nice little room, which is great for films, meetings, presentations, etc. It’s no ‘big movie theatre’, but it had nice accommodations for seating about 40 – 50 people, good lighting, and a bar area. Oh and definitely nice and clean restrooms. And there is a lobby area as well, which is comfortable with the couches. Overall, I enjoyed watching the SFinSF free screening of Ponyo here.
