Tuesday Night Jump! is a weekly combination of dance lessons and dance party that occurs inside the Verdi club in San Francisco on, obviously, Tuesday nights. This review is for the party. Logistics: going to Verdi presumes street parking, which was not hard for me to find — and free. The cost of attending the 9:30PM party is $ 12, $ 15 with the preceding 9PM beginner lesson. There is an elaborate set of progressive lessons prior to that with the steep drop-in fee of $ 20. Full bar is available. The large dance floor is of OK quality, ventilation is weak. The parties are going to the excellent live music by Stompy Jones. The crowd: about 60 dancers representing a mixture of common SF types, mostly youngish. The average skill level is intermediate, although some amount of pleasant-to-dance-with beginners and few advanced dancers were also present. The problem: fairly common for the Bay Area shortage of follows is exaggerated by the possibility of socializing in the bar that is separated from the dance floor. Quite a few dancers also come and dance as couples. On top of it, the group appears to be relatively tight-knit, at least by the swing dancing standards. Finally, the number of people dancing dwindles as the party progresses. The net result for an outsider lead like me that does not come to swing dance parties to socialize: follows are hard to find by the end of the dance. Definitely recommended due to the high quality of music. Advice for the leads: bring your own follow or invest time to become a member of the tribe. The facebook page of the event is
