My absolute favorite pizza spot in the bay area. I’m from the east coast and there’s nothing better than tommaso’s for a meatball pizza.

After this fabulous Italian meal… I transformed into a full-blooded Italian! My friend and I walked in on a Saturday night, it was packed, but didn’t have to wait too long. The hostess and waitress were really nice and weren’t appalled that we didn’t have a reservation– the first good sign! We had the Caprese salad to start off, which was delicious! The best I’ve had in a long time, particularly because the ingredients were so fresh. You bet it was worthy of a Snapchat main story update! The bread was nice and toasty, with some butter(I would enjoyed the option of olive oil or a tomato paste, but it was still good). I had a few glasses of prosecco and my friend had the pinot grigio, both delicious. Then, our main course arrived. It was the most beautiful lasagna I’ve had! The looks matched it taste, as the cheese, meat, sauce, and pasta combined to make one smooth sensational taste. We should have resisted dessert… alas, we could not! We shared the cannoli and you bet your momma it was duh bomb! Overall, dinner was great, service was like family, and the atmosphere was rather noisy, but we enjoyed it(not a good spot for a first date because of this, unless you enjoy a loud and lively atmosphere). As I said, this meal has transformed me into an Italian, hehehe! I would love to be back soon, but I am so busy packing my bags to Italy!

I was embarrassed to take my out of town guests here. Ordered the much-hyped spaghetti and meatballs and got dry meatballs from the weekend, flavorless marinara, and ok Spaghetti. No one finished their meals. The ravioli tastes like it came from a Grocery store. And on top of that the server forgot my salad, because we ordered…3 items for the whole table? And half the tables were empty. First time in a while Unilocal has failed me. The bread wasn’t even warm. The only saving grace for this meal was iced tea. Never again. Good luck tourists!

Rarely do I find myself in this area by Embarcadero/Little Italy because(let’s say it together, Bay peeps) IT’S TOURISTTOWN! But I met up with two friends from out of town over dinner, and I was so glad we decided on Tommaso’s. We didn’t have to wait at all around 7PM on a Sunday night, but we did circle the block a few times to find parking. Pro Tip: Park in Chinatown because it’s usually less packed on Sunday evenings after 6PM is free! We walked over in 3 minutes, and the area is super safe when it’s dark. But we ducked in on a windy night and were surprised at what a small space this was. I’d classify the atmosphere as warm, communal, and old-school class. It’s definitely a good space for date night if you don’t end up at the communal table(which we were find to dine at since we basically had a girl’s night dinner with catching up). The menu is bound to please all with huge pizzas, flavorful pasta, delicious dessert items from tiramisu to cannoli, and even fresh starters like caprese and clam on bread. Our neighbors got bread after ordering their entrees, so we just decided to get our glasses of wine and entrees without waiting. Service here is on «European time,» but shoutout to the only Asian man working fast in a sea full of Italian peeps! We luckily had the owner himself serving our trio, and he was such a grandfatherly figure… a bit slow, but had twinkling eyes. I’ve never even said that phrase ever, so there’s definitely something about his persona! Anyways, I loved my Valpolicella, which he confirmed was a popular red. He said it was going to be full-bodied, but it seemed very tannic(dried out my mouth super quick) and not as big as he described it. However, it was a great red to enjoy with my red sauce clam linguine! SCORE. I also tasted my friend’s Nebbiolo, but thought it was a little sweet for my taste. We all scarfed down our meals, and used tons of their spicy red flakes. I wish I had room for a cannoli or tiramisu, but I was too full from my pasta and the complimentary bread and the menu was a little on the pricier side. However, instead of the pricey Italian figures you get at lame authentic spots, you know that the steeper numbers are justified because TOMMASO’s has been here longer than you can say pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconioses ten thousand times. I’d totally recommend this place to tourists, but also locals if you’re looking to treat yoself or get an authentic Italian dinner in a cozy small space.

The chronicles of my travels is a personal account of what I saw in my travels to the world unknown. It will be an account that will be known as the 21st century text that bridged the East and West, an account that mirrors the adventure of the great Marco Polo. For in February 2016, I, Ringo Yolo, traversed from the inner fortress of Chinatown, into the Italian front known as the North Beach. My encounters with the people, the culture, and the food were filled with wonder, danger, and suspense. Although the distance of my journey does not exceed that of ‘The Travels of Marco Polo’, the influence will be surely be more far reaching. Without a doubt, my story will be told as a legend all around the world, and for years to come. Below is an excerpt from my adventure, of the time when I entered a restaurant known as Tommaso. February 26th, 2016 Heavy Fog Today I entered a rather peculiar restaurant known as Tommaso. The restaurant was dim and quiet, very different from the ones back home in Chinatown. Yet, the patrons seem to enjoy themselves in this low volume environment, and they take care not to project their voice during the course of their conversation. The lighting also seem to set a certain mood. Instead of a lively meal with cheers and laughter, the dim setting urges the patrons, on a subconscious level, toward a more orderly dining experience. It is rather compelling that the West places as much emphasis on the ambiance as they do the food, especially considering that ambiance does not tangibly add value to the actual food. I ordered the Spaghetti with Meatballs as I was told it was their flagship dish. Before this day, I had never seen an Italian dish, so I was in awe when I saw the Spaghetti. Its resemblance to Chow Mein was uncanny! The taste was quite another matter. Whereas Chow Mein can often be drenched in a heavy layer of oil, the Spaghetti is cooked only in hot water and avoids the unnecessary grease. I was utterly impressed with the tomato sauce which they call Marinara. It pairs very well with the dish. The pasta gave a firm chew and provided a nice contrast with the mushy tomato sauce. Regrettably, the Meatball was not as stunning. The meat was dry, and broke into little chunks after a bite but fortunately, the Marinara was able to overcome the Meatball’s unpleasant texture. Overall, I prefer the Spaghetti over the Chow Mein and I am excited to bring the recipe back home to Chinatown and introduce it to my people. Towards the conclusion of the meal, I began to appreciate the dim lighting and the quiet setting. It seems as if the Western dining experience places its focus on more than just the food on the table. It is as much about the feeling that the ambiance conjures, as it is about the food. While I do find this aspect to be counterintuitive for a restaurant, I admire this culture of thinking. Perhaps Chinatown can adopt this perspective and introduce a restaurant that offers both good food and a pleasurable dining experience. But until then, I will reminisce about my interesting experience at Tommaso. And what an interesting experience it was.

If you’re looking for an old school, homey, down-to-earth Italian restaurant in the North Beach area, Tommaso’s is an excellent choice! As a family run business, there’s something nice about coming back over the years and seeing familiar, friendly faces. While they offer a fair selection of tasty pastas and entrees(including monthly, seasonal specials), for my money the pizza is the star of the show here! With a nice thin crust and plenty of fresh, tasty toppings, I haven’t had a bad pizza yet. My wife is a fan of their lasagna as well; while I prefer my pasta more al dente, we both love the tomato sauce that they smother it in!

Part I: The Strip Club Alley Although it was a little unexpected for me to find this restaurant centrally located across from Hustler and numerous other strip joints, it was quite a find and don’t let that deviate from your course of trying out this amazing restaurant. Keep in mind, there are no reservations, only street parking, but the wait was less than 15 minutes on a Sunday night at 7pm. Part II: Right at Home Sometimes, as you walk into a restaurant, you feel right at home. This was precisely the case with Tomasso. It just has a homey vibe, cooks were Italian and it looks like a little family joint. Part III: Killer Lasagna Sure, you might have already read 100 other reviews about the amazing lasagna here, so don’t try to be unique here, just get it! It’s phenomenal. Simply prepared and light on spices, yet bursting with flavor. One of the best lasagnas I’ve ever had.

Love the place. I’m always nervous about getting in so we go around 6:00. It’s a small place with loads of atmosphere. There are a bunch of booths and a center section where you sit next to other people. I’ve only had their meatball pizza with spinach and parmesan cheese which was recommended by the waiter. The Caesar salad was very good, but not excellent.

i had a fantastic time at tommaso’s — it feels like youre in an italian aunt’s home. someone takes your name at the door, you wait a bit, you’re seated in a romantic little cove, or at the somewhat large communal table in the middle of the restaurant. when you walk in — you know immediately that youre gonna have a wonderful meal. we ordered of their private label wine — a syrah — for about $ 40 a bottle, a steal! it was light and went with the food nicely. there are appetizers, salads, pastas, and pizzas to choose from. we got the scampi asparagus — 5 large shrimps resting on a bed of asparagus stalks in a creamy white wine sauce with parsley and garlic. OMG — and we sopped up ALL the sauce with the house bread they bring you. olive oil and vinegar are at the table for you to drown the bread in as well. but that appetizer set things up nicely! i would order it again. we did half n half on a large pizza — 15 inch — cuz why not?! half fresh spinach and cheese, half mushroom and sliced sausage. the crust is amazing — fluffy and thin, but withstands the weight of the delicious and fresh toppings. i would go back to try ANY of their other pizzas — seafood, clams, the new carbonara, proscuitto — or the pastas that looked delicious on everyone else’s table. NOMSIES. we didnt save room for dessert, sadly, so must return! great food experience. service is friendly but brisk — food is definitely the star here!

Cheesy heaven. Me and the lovely fiancée had: — calamari — endless bread(with oil and basalmic) — pizza split between had the burrata and tomato, and spinach parm Arrived around 5:45 on a Sunday and only waited about 25 mins for our own booth. We could have taken a seat at the community table but we wanted some privacy. The bread was nothing special but they had some oil and basalmic vinegar that kept us satisfied while we waited for the pizza. My calamari was average, served with a lemon. The crispness was light and the batter wasn’t overwhelming, but for 16.50 I wouldn’t get it again. The pizza. God. I regret indulging with the calamari and bread beforehand. The pizza was amazing. I can’t wait to eat our left overs later. The tomatoes on the burrata half of the pizza added a delicious pop of tang, and the spinach half was great too. A bit salty(cheese hgn) but not enough to stop me from eating it until I was uncomfortably full. Pizza worth it for the 20 some dollar cost. Can’t wait to come back!

I know this place is much hyped and I was excited to try it. I only ordered the pizza with their version of supreme. My thoughts are that this pizza is not good. Tony’s is definitely better by a mile(see my review). Main critique, the dough did not have enough crunch to support the toppings and the cheese tasted bland at best. Honestly I have had better frozen brands seriously. Maybe my experience was sub oar because I had the pizza to go. Maybe not. I will still try then again and go for sitdown dinner non pizza.

Had a great time at Tomasso’s the other night! We came with a very large group of 16 people, and the staff was all very accommodating. They don’t take reservations, so we had to get there about an hour before we wanted to eat so we could put our name down. Once we came back around 8, we had just about all of the seats we needed, and the staff was really good about getting everything set up quickly. The food was pretty amazing! We started with the Margherita and Sliced Italian Sausage, which were delicious. Super cheesy, and the dough and crust were cooked to perfection. Definitely one of the best restaurant pizzas I’ve had in SF! We also ordered a few of the pastas, including the Cheese Ravioli with Pesto and Half Spaghetti and Ravioli with Marinara. I loved that both the pizza and pasta were just as good as the other, and tasted very authentic. Overall it was a great experience coming to Tommasso’s. I know North Beach is flooded with some excellent Italian eateries, but this one is definitely at the top of my list.

LOVED coming here the other night with my friend. Note: Tommaso’s is right next to the«red light» area of San Francisco, so be warned — it’s pretty much next to an adult store. However, the food is awesome, and the service is great. I came here with a friend, and we had trouble deciding. Only because she loves Italian food and I… well, love food. We finally decided on the special penne in Vodka sauce, lasagna, and calamari… because I wanted fried food. Yum. That was a little too much… but so delicious. Calamari — came out first, and was perfectly fried. Came with the 2 requisite sauces. And was SUPER plentiful. I’m used to people being stingy on calamari, but it was entrée-worthy itself. Lasagna — Smothered in sauce, goodness. So good. Vodka Penne — I think it had a seafood bit to it(maybe crab?). It was delicious — both that night and the next day. The staff knew I was splitting with my friend, and brought the entrees out –pre-split. It was awesome. Service was super friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. I was surprised that there wasn’t a line, but I guess we did go in the middle of the week.

I came here on a Saturday night, the day before Valentines and you would probably expect every romantic Italian place would be packed in the North Beach area. Yeah they were, but I managed to get a table for 3 in less than 30mins here… score! This place is a little small and cramped, but it sure gives you the environment of a small family restaurant… and by that I mean you can tell that the waiters are not high end professionals because they are a little clumsy but thats the joy of having a family owned restaurant! You are also allowed to order drinks(such as wine) while you wait for your table. Me and my friends ordered the… — meat lasagna; my personal favorite. It wasn’t dry, the noodles were soft and the cheese wasn’t overwhelming — clam linguine with white wine sauce; never in my life did I think I would complain about a dish having too much clams… but overall it was okay, wish there was more sauce/flavor and less clams –fried calamari; came with a warm marinara that is probably the same sauce they use in their pasta. Assortment of baby squids and actual calamari circles. Overall good. The service here is great, attentive and I am a huge fan of anywhere that actually cares enough to have all their cups cooled in the fridge before serving us water.

Where do I even start… I love this place! We got the appetizer clams and the fried calamari. Margherita pizza… Cheese ravioli with pesto, linguini with clam and red sauce, and gnocchi. Everything was amazing!!! The pastas were all great. The clam dishes were my favorite! The give so much! It’s definitely worth your money! The fried calamari could have been fried a little more but it was still good! Service was good. It’s a pretty small restaurant and parking is HARD! Definitely drop someone off first to put your name On the list. I went around 7 on a Saturday night and waited about 45 min to an hour. This is a place everyone should try!

Really great food. Ended up coming here because of good Unilocal reviews and it did not disappoint. I had the Veal Ratelloni(?) and my gf had the Special for February. Both were extremely good and some of best Italian food we’ve ever had. Prompt service and really friendly place to be. I am definitely recommending to friends. Also there house white wine is a good price and easy to drink.

The reason why I’m giving Tomasso a 3-star was because everything you expected from a restaurant was achieved here. Thankfully, the restaurant wasn’t busy so we were seated immediately. In regards to the atmosphere of the restaurant, I like how the lighting was dimmed and how they have booths which was where we decided to sit. For drinks, we ordered a Sauvignon blanc which I wasn’t really a fan just because I lean more towards sweet wine and this particular wine left an undesirable after taste for me. After getting our drinks, we had Caesar salad. I honestly don’t know why we got salad. It tasted like salad so there’s really not much to write about it. Finishing our appetizers, we dove in to our main entrée which was a large mushroom & Italian sausage pizza. By the way, if there’s only two of you, get the small pizza. It took about 10 minutes for our pizza to get to our table. I would say the pizza was all right. It was a tad bit soggy and difficult to eat. Would I give this place another chance? I would, I’d love to try their pasta.

1STARFORTHESERVICE!!! The food was out of this world. We got the fried calamari, clams in a white sauce over French bread and the mushroom/sausage pizza. I would have left out the calamari and got double of the clams! Our service is horrible! I mean really bad. Didn’t check on us once. When he brought us our food he just put it on our table and kept walking. Never asked if we wanted refills on our drinks, coffee or dessert. Needless to say we left no tip! I hate to say that we would totally go back and just pray the service is better!

Super good, long wait, but well worth it! My favorite here is the lasagna. It’s not like your standard lasagna with several layers and meat within the layers. Their meat sits on top in their signature sauce and has fewer and thinner layers than the lasagna I’m used to. The flavorful meat sauce, the cheese(I’m not sure what it kind it is), the pasta layers(not too soft or too hard or too thick or thin), all perfectly marry together to make a mouth watering lasagna. YUM! Although I think they’re most known for their pizza. The crust is crisp on the outside and soft and doughy in the inside). Again they use their signature sauce here, which makes your pizza perfectly flavored. I will definitely come back for more, but not too often or I’ll need to buy bigger clothes :).

Hands down one of my favorite(unarguably the best) hole in the wall Italian places in SF. If(1) you don’t mind the long wait and(2) you’re craving amazing pasta, go here. I discovered this place while walking aimlessly around FiDi/North Beach one Friday night and after reading promising Unilocal reviews, I decided to try it myself. I’ve been coming back ever since. Place — small but cozy and charming, suited for a casual, small group gathering or a date Service — quick and okay

I’ve come here a few times. My boss LOVES this place, so we do a Tommaso’s dinner once a quarter. They do a fantastic job of accommodating our group of 18. The staff are super kind and we love coming here. They bring a freshly baked bread basket at the start. As for the food, let’s start with appetizers. The calamari is fantastic and fried JUST right, and the sauce I could eat by itself. The antipasti is also great and the vegetarian plate is a good option if you’re trying to watch your good figure. We always order pizza for the whole table. The spinach Parmigiano-Reggiano is the bomb. It’s so good, and you feel less guilt due the greens covering the cheese. There is another pizza that has bacon, caramelized onion, and and egg cracked on top! Whaaaaa??? You should take your cholesterol medication and then eat the slice in comfort(talk to your doctor before taking any medications as my Unilocal review is not a substitute for medical advice). The dessert is a great way to finish the marathon of deliciousness. I recommend the crème brûlée and the tiramisu. Lastly, once you’re done paying, go for a hike up to the Coit Tower! The stairs on Kearney will help burn a few of those calories and the view will make you fall in love again. Hope you enjoy!

I love little mom and pop restaurants, they often hide little gems of culinary delight and Tommasso’s(as you can probably see from the reviews) is exactly the kind of restaurant that I just cannot help going back to time and time again. Unlike some of my recent discoveries this place is right on the beaten path in the midst of San Francisco’s Little Italy district, but unlike nearly every other Italian restaurant littering the area, this one is the real deal. While I got the pasta, and it was delicious, I realized immediately that this was a mistake because the pizza looks like, well pizza. And while that may not seem like an amazing feat, if you’ve read any of my reviews on SF pizza you’ll know that it’s only a half step above the detested«Chicago» style pie– not a fan. This pizza though looked amazing. Fresh ingredients, a crust that wasn’t so thin it melts with your gaze like you’re Superman(my closet desire is a crust that has some crispness damnit), a thin layer of sauce, and a small that was enchanting. It drew me in like the pied piper and I considered just getting that too… But my willpower prevailed. Next time! The pasta was by no means sloppy seconds. Perfectly cooked pasta, seasoned sauce, and meatballs as big as your head. Super flavorful and probably a good accompaniment to the pizza. Family style please!

Tried the manicotti with a sausage on the side. My wife tried the spaghetti with home made meat balls. The manicotti was home made and tasted great. The sauce was delicious. So glad I ordered the sausage. It was on point. If you are on the fence with meat ball or sausage go sausage for sure. The meat ball was ok. My wife gave the spaghetti 4 stars. I give the overall experience 5. The ambiance was very cool. Small area. Shared a big long table with other guests. Felt like a real family Italian dinner. The waiter was an older Italian man who my wife said was so cute. Very nice Italian experience. Glad we wants

Tommaso’s is a bastion of consistency! I have been visiting this wonderful place for close to forty years… since I was a kid. And the food has always been good. Service has always been friendly. Atmosphere has always been warm and cozy. We split a Cesar salad, Calamari, and a large sliced sausage and mushroom pizza: The Cesar is always great. Crispy romaine, large shaved pieces of Romano cheese, and subtle anchovy dressing. The calamari is served piping hot, crispy, and very tender. It was however under seasoned… no salt. The accompanying marina sauce tastes homemade and bursts of fresh tomatoes. My favorite part of the meal… and the reason to really to go to Tommao’s is their fantastic pizza. It is not cracker thin nor doughy. Just the right amount of crust… slightly crisp. The toppings are fantastic: mushrooms chopped thinly imparting a wonderful woody flavor. Their homemade sausage has the right amount of spice and flavor and the casing has that crunch. The cheese they use is high grade and has none of that nasty oil slick that many pizza parlor’s cheese imbue. Finally their sauce… which is probably the same as the marinara is chocked full of fresh and flavorful tomatoes and herbs. If you want to step back in time and witness a true San Francisco gem(what North Beach used to be like). Visit Tommaso’s!

OMFG. FREAKINGTODIEFOR. If you like real Italian food, come. I got the lasagna and linguini with clams. Portions were perfect, not to the point you’d get food coma but still leave you more than satisfied. The educated guess glass of wine was $ 10 and very well worth. Well known for lasagna($ 16.50). A taste of heaven, perfectly cheesy and the sauce isn’t injected in the lasagna but poured on top, a delicious meat tomato sauce. The linguini, OMFG. I got the white sauce and it was seriously. So light, not the super creamy sauce that you get sick of halfway through. Definitely a hidden gem between hustler clubs and other strip clubs. It’s a hole in the wall joint, very homey and small. Make reservations if you don’t want to wait.

I really want to give them one star so others won’t go and it won’t get too busy. But, in good conscience I can’t do that. This place is fabulous. Ambiance is very nice, not touristy at all, very quaint and the food was outstanding. We had lasagna(super good), manicotti(the cheese filling was amazing) and the cheese raviolis(the cheese filling virtually melted in your mouth but the pesto was a little overpowering). The pizza, cooked in a brick oven, smelled so good we ordered one to go. Parking is tough, but hey it’s San Francisco what do you expect.

I just had the best calamari I’ve ever had in my life. Perfectly beaded and cooked, with homemade marinara, also bursting with flavor and perfectly made from scratch. I had to try the lasagna. Very well made, with a delicious meat sauce. The pasta was expertly cooked and well presented. It lives up to its reputation for being along the very best. Service was phenomenal. The perfect balance of letting me enjoy my food and making sure I always had anything I needed. Very personable waitress and busboy. I’ll be back to try the pizza next, and I can’t wait! After a 20 minute wait, we were finally given a table. Packed in like sardines, we were literally rubbing elbows with the parties on either side of us! But it was so worth it! Traditional(old school) Italian food. Not since my grand mother’s kitchen have I seen offerings like chilled green bean or chilled broccoli dishes. Brought me right back to childhood! And the chicken and veal parm were both amazing, because the sauce was GOOD! I’m a sauce snob and their sauce passed the test. Generous portion sizes, quick service, tasty food, and you can buy a liter of wine in a lovely pitcher. What’s not to love? I would definitely go back next time I’m in San Francisco!

This is the perfect place for an authentic family style Italian meal. I came here with 6 other family members(including my difficult grandmother) and we were all thrilled with our dinner experience. I had the spinach salad as a starter which was a amazing and evenly dressed. The table had garlic bread to share which was absolutely delicious(and reheats quite well). For the main event, I had the fresh spinach and shaved Parmesan pizza and added Parma. The crust was the perfect amount of thickness and fluffiness. After chatting with the couple next to me, I found out these people were regulars. They suggested the lasagna saying«it’s killer!». Gonna have to go back and give that a try! Overall my experience here was wonderful and I highly recommend if you are looking for a classic family Italian dinner.

Not worth the hype. We came on a Friday night. Surprisingly there was no line; there usually is. We ordered the lasagna and a pizza. I had a glass of the pinot which was sweeter than I expected for a pinot. That’s ok, the waiter offered to switch the wine, but by then, I just wanted to finish my meal and leave. The lasagna tasted like a deconstructed lasagna. The pasta was not al dente but actually overcooked. There was no burnt edges/crust that made me want more. The meat sauce was decent but not enough for me to recommend you ordering it. The dough to the pizza was still doughy. There was no crunch. There was no fluff. There was just a cheese bread. Yes, I call it cheese bread because I ordered the burrata with cherry tomatoes and basil. It tasted like over cheesed bread. Is there such a thing? YES. There was no balance to the meal. No saltiness or tenderness. Just dense cheese on a crust that was no where near delicious. Sadly, I would not go back.

What a warm and cozy spot Tommaso’s is. You’ll know you’re dining in a North Beach stalwart the moment you walk in — these walls have seen many a satisfied customer enjoying some«mangia mangia» hospitality and food. The service is super attentive and personal — feels like family. Per the recommendation of our server/host, we ordered a pepperoni and mushroom pie plus a parmesan prosciutto with spinach. After all, Tommaso’s did introduced the first wood-fired brick pizza oven to the West Coast so you have to get some pizza when you’re here. The pepperoni and mushroom had good savory and earthy flavor but I really loved the parmesan prosciutto with spinach pie. The balance of all the ingredients just worked with the combination of salty prosciutto, rich cheese, and bright spinach on a crust that held up to the ingredients without being too doughy. So satisfying! Also ordered a couple of other dishes including the seafood linguine with prawns, scallops, and clams in a basil-garlic tomato sauce. Loved the fresh seafood and the springiness of the pasta in tandem with the sauce. Also had some fried calamari, Caesar salad, and way too much garlic bread. Wash down with a couple bottles of red wine, we had one hearty meal here. It’s not a large space and it fills up quick. Since they don’t take reservations, it can be a wait but it’s totally worth it. Dine at Tommaso’s and feel like you’re part of their big, extended Italian family… and part of North Beach/SF history.

Craving some Italian while downtown, we started walking up towards Russian/Telegraph Hill and came upon Tommaso’s right near Broadway. The place was packed and had all sorts of awards on the wall so we figured we’d give it a shot. This place has a very old school feel to it and we were seated after a short wait in one of the many walled off booths. Stuffed Manicotti & Meatballs — 3⁄5 Pizza — 3⁄5 Tiramisu — 1⁄5 — Way too dense and cakey. It’s not often you see someone screw up tiramisu but this one stood out as not being very enjoyable. Overall, Tommaso’s had some decent food, but in most regards this place is just an average Italian restaurant that did not really stand out to us in any way. «I’ve experienced better.»

J’y retournerai !
