I found TJ through Unilocal on my way out of San Francisco for a quick bite before hitting the road. I was skeptical being so close to the water that it might be a tourist trap. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was not. I grabbed a quick burger and fries and sat outside. The sweet woman working there was wonderful by moving a table outside for us just so I could enjoy the weather. My burger was great, the produced tasted fresh(I had hope so since I was in California) and the onion rings awesome. Parking was easy enough just around the block and off the Great Highway. Definitely recommend!

Simple yet delicious! Some background: TJ Café used to be the exact location of a Burger King. It was the Burger King that was a big part of my own childhood, as I went there daily to be with friends and go to Ocean Beach after. The day I found out they were closing it down was a sad one; it meant no more hangouts with my friends near the beach. Present day: This was my first time ever at TJ Café since its inception. It actually was pretty weird coming back and seeing the same exact layout: cash register that sits in the same spot, tables formatted in the same way, etc. It was a Deja Vu moment. I looked through the menu and loved that they offer so many options: an unlimited number of breakfast items, sandwiches, burgers, coffee, fries– you name it! I had the Mushroom Cheese Burger and it was splendid. It brought me back to the good olé’ days. This isn’t your typical new age burger like Super Duper, Unami Burger, or any of those artisan burgers that are now so popular/mainstream in San Francisco. Definitely a more simple burger than that, but that’s exactly what I liked about it. Final verdict: not only does TJ Café offer a great selection of food, but they do so at a very affordable price(2 burgers and 2 orders of fries for under $ 20). The people here are friendly, the service is quick, and the food itself is tasty! You can’t go wrong coming here for a morning coffee, lunch or even dinner. Its simple on the outside and inside, but what it lacks in ambiance it makes up for in flavor.

The hubs and I were looking for a place to grab a quick bite after walking around the Sutro Baths. TJ Café was within walking distance so we decided to give it a try. You can order your food ahead of time using the Unilocal app. We placed our order and started walking! I didn’t expect much based on the look of the place — it’s nothing fancy but my California chicken burger was surprisingly tasty. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, cooked to perfection! The fries were crispy but not seasoned at all, therefor kind of bland. We didn’t end up eating many of them. They have a few tables inside but it was packed when we went. We took our lunch to go and ate it in a nearby parked. I was surprised to see how busy they were!

Unbelievably delicious. While you can order online, if you want your order right away you should just order in person. Very friendly staff. Awesome!

Excellent staff, fast service, and most importantly, one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. I highly recommend the California Burger Combo fresh avocados and hot French fries are to die for

The food was good… but the parking non-existant. Definitely a locals place, as in, if you don’t live within walking distance… you’re not parking anywhere near the joint. As Steven Wright used to riff…“I used to work at a Fire Hydrant factory… but you couldn’t park anywhere near the place.” I’m certain this place deserves a better rating for the food… but the frustration over the parking means it’s not someplace worth making the effort to get to.

Quet, clean, affordable, and has a restroom. The cook has a sense of humor. They play relaxing music at just the right volume. Today i will be trying the Bountiful French Toast Breakfast, they are pretty damn big for the price. Considering theres no one really in here i would say this was a great find! I will be returning to try other menu items.

This was my Burger King growing up. I have many fond memories of going to get a fish Burger with my friends and then going back to her house to play Dead or Alive 2. Anyways. Now I have new fond memories of going here in the morning to get breakfast burritos with my significant other when I visit my parents. The chorizo breakfast burrito(~4.95)is so good. My boyfriend thought we were going to split 50⁄50 our veggie burrito and the chorizo burrito. No way. Go get your own. I’ve not tried anything else, but that’s because I don’t eat Burgers for breakfast. Yet.

We were looking for a place to eat after visiting Ocean Beach to see the LEAP Sand Castle sculptures as well as see all the amazing corgi(s) at Corgi-con! We arrived at TJ Café thanks to Unilocal’s suggestions and reviews about their great food. When we visited, it looked like the café was run by one woman in the front and one man in the back. The woman in front was quiet, but very friendly and helpful. We ordered a cheeseburger and two California burgers with fries. The fries were great. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Very very lightly salted so we could add more if we wanted. The burgers were thick and juicy. We got generous thick wedges of avocado and it was just a great way to wrap up our beach visit! They are just a block away from the beach and along with the great food came great customer service! They brought the food to our table and even got us ketchup and napkins. We will definitely eat here again when we visit Ocean Beach or the SF Zoo. Good food, but even better customer service! Pros: Good food. Great customer service. Great food presentation. Fairly quiet. Restroom was very clean! Good price given the amount and quality of food and service. Cons: Not much to look at from the outside or the inside. Pretty small. Might need to get food to go enjoy on the beach(not necessarily a con)

Good eat and cheap. Got the B.L.A.S.T(bacon, lettuce, avocado, sprouts, tomatoes) sandwich and it was tasty. Fresh alfafa spourts and quite generous avocado portion. Bacon was panfried on point, smoky and crunchy. They toasted my sourdough bread prefectly. All went together very well and really hit the spot. My girlfriend got a California chicken burger with garlic fries. The burger was very good too. The buns were decent. The grilled chicken breast was meaty, juicy, and very tender. The garlic fries was okay, not quite garlicky enough for me and on the starchier side, but my gf liked it! Services was basic but nice and friendly. We’ve tried the Kawika’s deli one door down as well and actually prefer Tj more in terms of price for quality ratio.

5 star worthy for sure! Came here with low expectations. When I got here I realized that this place took over the spot where Burger King used to be. Nice upgrade from that place, the worst Burger King EVER!!! The menu are big and in the window. The pictures in the window are always plus. I want to see what it is I am getting. The pricing is very fair for what you are getting. I came here craving a burger and a burger is what I got. One order of garlic fries and one Mushroom Cheeseburger as well. The business is small and has limited seating but if you get here before noon you can sit and enjoy your meal. The folks here are very nice. In being familiar with area I was on the lookout for people asking for change. It is as common as a «COLD» around this part of the city. There were a few homeless wandering around outside but they were not as rowdy as they tend to be. This café has much of an old diner kind of feel to it, without the stools and jukebox. The fries were good but I would have liked more garlic seasoning on the fries. The burger was hefty which made for a full stomach. Just keep in mind that parking can be a bit difficult because there are other businesses in the area. However, there is residential parking in the area just a block away. Nice joint.

I have struggled to find out how to best describe my long awaited visit to TJ Café. I was surprised to find that this place has the nicest people in the world. The food here however isn’t great. I mean they aren’t really even worth stopping by if I’m in the area. I know it seems harsh, but it’s just bland food for bland’s sake. I got a very sub par but somewhat salty burger & the hashbrowns were essentially flavorless. I also tried the somewhat average corned beef & bland fries. You know what though? The eggs were good. This place needs to let the paper plates go, they are gross and I can’t see it why they would do it. It makes me feel like I’m at a family picinic, but the food isn’t good and no matter how nice everyone is I just wanna leave. The music could be better too. I wish I had more to say because I hate writing short reviews, but I’m essentially giving them a third star for politeness. So take that with a grain of salt. CHAD

If you want to grab a bite to eat near Ocean Beach(the Folsom entrance), this is such a great option. They’re super cheap and don’t have a lot of sitting room, but their burgers were exactly what we were looking for. Actually I got the grilled chicken sandwich and my friends all got burgers, but they were all great! The food is fresh, despite how much the place looks like a Burger King. Beyond that, the woman behind the counter was so sweet. Will probably grab lunch there whenever we go to Ocean Beach now.
FRESHFRESHFRESH. Reasonably-priced, fresh café food. There wasn’t anything particularly stunning about my California chicken sandwich, but everything was fresh. Did I say that already? It’s a small little place right near Ocean Beach. I’m glad we tried it out and I’ll be happy to go back if I’m nearby.

TJ Café took over the long standing Burger King by the beach 6 months ago. I’ve only been to that BK maybe twice in my life, but TJ’s is a wonderful change. I’ve been twice and we’ve enjoyed it very much so both times. I’m assuming that sole person at the café who helped me is the owner, who is so sweet! Since we don’t live too far and parking is difficult in the area, we’ve called for pick up and they’ve been done by the time we’ve gone there. First time around: he got a patty melt and I got a regular cheeseburger and we split an order of fries. Super cheap, filling and satisfying. Next time around: I got a huge Chicken Philly Cheesesteak and he got the Breaded Fish & Chips. I loved how his fish and chips were breaded as opposed to the typical regular fried batter. It made it less greasy and the pieces of fish were huge. My Chicken Philly was moist and packed with lots of cheese, mushrooms, onions and bell peppers. He said he would totally get it next time. TJ Café is not a five star destination place. It is 5 stars for what it is; A small diner to get great, comforting burgers, sandwiches and breakfasts at an affordable price with friendly and fast service. I can’t wait to try their breakfast next time. Support small business owners please and head to TJ Café. $ 5 minimum for credit cards.
