i have loved The Republic and have watched many sports games there over the last two years in San Francisco. The staff and owners were some of the best people in a restaurant business I have met. Unfortunately, today I heard the devastating news that they are closing, effective immediately. I wish all of the staff the best of luck in their future endeavors — this place was truly amazing and will be greatly missed. RIP.

04.27.14 etc. | bookmarked 11.20.09 Perfect place to stumble in on a trivia night. Otherwise, relatively quiet during weeknights, and rowdy during the weekends.

My brunch-partner-in-crime and I came across this place on our quest to conquer this list of the best boozy brunches in San Francisco. Verdict is… We’ll be back! Pro tip: make a reservation if you’d prefer to sit at a table as opposed it the bar. This place is a little on the small side and has a limited number of tables. We got there just minutes after they opened but the tables all had«reserved» cards on them, but we were able to sit at the bar without a wait. Great menu choices. I was not disappointed with my delicious eggs Benedict! And the bar tender was generous with my bottomless mimosa. There are at least a few TVs for those who’d like to tune into enjoy some NFL games with your mimosas.

I’m not sure how things get so confusing with the wait staff at bars, but somehow they manage to scold full grown adults and get away with it. My party had been at Brew Fest earlier in the day, but everyone(save my roommate) was acting right. We stopped in at The Republic for some fuel for the road to the Sunset and my dear friend Matt G sported and got us all Moscow Muels, Nachos, and Chicken Wings(yes, of course I tried to slip money down his shirt, this isn’t my first rodeo). Anyway, we were attempting to order beers and ciders at the bar and then realized we should get some food, so after we got lectured by the bar tender about having to be sitting down to order food, we snagged the big corner spot with a coffee table and couches. Our waitress was maybe not having the best day, and had the general attitude of a pissed off soccer mom, talking-with-her-eyebrows-raised-the-entire-time-she’s-talking things that gradeschool secretaries do when they’re telling someone they have to continue driving even though they’re just idling for a minute, dropping off their kids. You know what I’m talking about. So I ordered Nachos with steak and chicken wings. The nachos were brought out with chicken, which would have been fine, except that I ordered steak and wasn’t told that steak was not an option… Um, okay, whatever we were all hungry so we ate it all up. Lots of cheese and jalepenos and beans, they were actually very good. I didn’t have any chicken wings because I was vibin’ on the nachos. We had a great time once all the kinks were worked out and enjoyed Charades on my friend’s phone, our Moscow Mules were refreshing and gingery, and my friends are the best, so it all worked out.

Yay! Came here to watch a Giants World Series game. Wasn’t too busy when we arrived, but it soon became packed. Our waiter was so enthusiastic and friendly, he took amazing care of us all night. Typically Wednesdays are .25 cent wings, but this week that didn’t apply(because of the game), but we didn’t know that. When the bill came we were surprised at the price, but the waiter took care of the«overcharge» on the wings, no problem. Drinks are amazing — the Marina Greenhound and the 30x are very yummy. The fries were great, although the fish in the fish and chips was not good. I will totally come back. Thanks for having great service on a game night.
