There’s nothing more satisfying that melted cheese with more cheese in between 2 slices of buttery and garlicky carbs. I got the MacDaddy Grilled Cheese with the garlic bread and it totally hit the spot of comfort food. It’s pretty much a mac and cheese sandwich and it’s really good. I get it with tomatoes and jalapenos to add some veggies and some spice. It has a pretty unique texture since the mac and cheese is smooth and creamy and the bread is crispy. I like it and the flavors are really good. Overall, definitely get one if you’re not on a diet.

Great food. It’s tough to find something at this price point that both tastes interesting and clean and the Melt delivers on both. The staff was cheerful and friendly and the place was clean.

I’ve been to many«The Melt“s(roughly 5 times) and this was the worst experience I have had at one. Not only was the food subpar, but the quality of the environment and the service made my visit one I regretted. The store temperature was very hot, muggy, flies buzzing. The restaurant itself was very dead, even with it being in the heart of the financial district. The staff seemed very agitated at my questions and seemed annoyed when I took a long time to decide my order. When my boyfriend went back in to ask if they had fries they replied«yes but only sweet potato» when I knew very well they had regular potato fries as well. Very interesting and unprofessional. Needless to say, I think this brand, in order to be successful, will need to create a consistency in it’s surrogate locations in it’s level of excellency.

Order on an iPad, pay with an iPhone, aged cheddar, onions crumbled in the Mac and cheese. Too much goodness here to describe. You have to try it for yourself. It’s cheeeeese!

Used to be better, now just ok. About half a year back the prices where less and the choices a bit more limited. After a recent visit its obvious it went from great to just ok. There is still novelty in a smaller burger and the light cheddar usage. Plus they got small soup cups, but even that was better :( The cane soda is still great though.

Busy lunchtime crowd — the spot was suggested by a co-worker. Long line — but No clear signs of panic from team behind the counter — and they’re taking the time to greet each customer(guest) with a smile.

I finally got to check this place out and see what all the fuss was about. Located right across the street from the st. Patrick’s day block party my friends and i took an intermission from the festivities to get some grilled cheeses in our tummies. They had a wide selection of burgers and different types of grilled cheese sandwiches and once you placed your order you just tell the cashier your initials and wait for your initials to pop up on the tv screen. I ordered the steak grilled cheese sandwich as the others seemed kind of ordinary. The steak melted like butter in my mouth, the cheese was very creamy and the bread was toasted perfectly. This sandwich reminded me of a philly cheese steak sandwich grilled cheese style as it came with red bell peppers and probably would of been perfect with grilled or caramelized onions. Each sandwich comes with a slice of pickle and i must say was the highlight of my meal and wish i had more lol. Overall, my meal was pretty good, but definitely no worth the price as the sandwiches for the most part you can make at home. Their burgers looked very small as well. There were also no one cleaning the tables and we had to clear out our own table so we can sit and eat. All the tables inside and out had garbage on them and we wondered if this place was a clean your own mess place or someone actually bus the tables until one of the regulars told us we just leave it on the table. They do have a bathroom which you have to enter from another building to get yo. We had difficulty trying to find that specific building so we just used the portable restrooms instead.

This is a very new name i encountered. You can order the food on a ipad in the entrance to avoid the line. This place is mostly for not more than 4 person groups. Week days it’s busy with lunch people. apart from its name for burgers, you can get spicy fries, salads and soups here.

My preferred menu items are the chicken sandwiches and the fries. The burger is pretty good but it’s hit or miss. Sometimes the seasoning on the patty is inconsistent but it’s pretty good overall. My biggest complaint is the service. It can be pretty slow. I work late hours so I appreciate that they are open late during the week.

I thought this was a weird combination for a grilled cheese place when they had S’mores grilled sandwich. I went to claim my free birthday S’mores by being a member of their email club. I have been here when they first opened and their promotion was a free cheese sandwich. From both of my experiences, they do make a good sandwich. But watch out for the calories! It is fresh and you see them making the sandwiches and now they have expanded their menu to include salads and ice cream frosty. I personally wouldn’t come here without a coupon or promotion because it seems bit expensive for grill cheese. For their grill cheese menu, the charred jalapeño, grilled onions and tomato are still free toppings and anything else you want to add is a la carts, so your sandwich can turn out to be expensive with the add ons. But their sandwiches are tasty that’s for sure! :-)

I was excited to try an expertly crafted grilled cheese that I didn’t have to make myself. I’m disappointed. There was no expert crafting. Ok fine, I didn’t really expect that. But it was just plain bad. There was barely any cheese(though what was there was as gooey as you’d hope). The bread was waaay overcooked on one side, verging on completely burnt. The other side was almost perfect. The basically-burned side also had some kind of seasoning on it, which I could tell might have been good except that it was laid on So thick that it was too salty to deal with. And I love salt. I keep trying to think of better things to say so this is a balanced review, but really, it was verging on totally inedible. Maybe it was the salt overdose, but I have a definitive stomach ache. Combine that with the posturing and weird joking around between staff and I have to wonder about the integrity of the ingredients. This place has such amazing reviews, I might give it another chance. But if so I’ll definitely go during a different shift to get different cooks.

Cheesy, melty, gooey, buttery — The Melt. The Melt menu is comprised of grilled cheese and hamburgers, with which you can get a side of fries, soup or mac n cheese. The food is relatively good, but make sure you get a workout in first as it is rich in calories! Overall, I enjoyed my meal but I could have made the same thing at home. One special item they do have is the mac n cheese grilled cheese… let me know how it tastes!

I got the Original Cheddar Burger and the Naked Fries. Both were just ok. The burger was kind of small and on a poppy seed bun. Poppy seed buns are not my favorite simply because of the mess they make. The fries, despite the«Melt Spice,» were rather bland. It could have used some salt. I’ve had other items here, including the tomato basil soup and grilled cheese sandwich. All are decent, but it always leaves me a little hungry.

I love Everything, but I just tried the double chocolate MILKSHAKE! Omg soo good! I didn’t feel heavy afterwards at all. And the bits of chocolate chunks are an extra bonus. Pro tip: grab a spoon. The straw cracked on me but I managed.

Nice little lunch spot located in San Fransisco’s Financial District so it’s super convenient for business people in the area. Small with limited seating; I suggest the grab & go technique to avoid waiting for a chair to become available. The food is fresh & doesn’t take too long but not quick enough to be considered«fast food» either. The Melt offers sandwiches, salads, cookies, ice cream, tea & other goodies. The staff is efficient and friendly. Give it a whirl. ~Christy

The basic grilled cheese sandwich with free tomato slice(s) and bacon tasted ok but the sourdough bread was tough, too hard to chew, and over-toasted to the point that it scraped the roof of my mouth. The tomato soup was fine. For the price, which is a bit pricey for what they serve, you get half a sandwich(there is an extra half a slice of bread in the middle so it is 1.5 slices of bread in total), and a small cup of soup(about 6 ounces). The sandwich was greasy which is what pretty much the taste it left me with. This place is alright to fix a craving but I rarely go. For the same money, I can get a really nice lunch across the street at Royal Exchange.

Ducked in here with some colleagues to grab a quick burger dinner. The place is clean. Not very atmospheric as it has bright lights and plastic-type fixtures. The board shows basic hamburger and salad choices. Fries choices too. I had a bacon cheeseburger with avocado. When my order arrived I was disappointed to learn that the bun had poppy seeds on it. I can’t eat poppy seeds. When I pointed this out to the counter person he cheerfully told me that they would prepare a new order for me. I thanked them but declined because I was with three other people. Instead I removed the buns and ate my burger with a knife and fork, which worked just fine for me. The burger(sans bun) and the fries were great.

I got the Italian job . It was okay i feel like i could make this at home and make it better with more mushrooms and more to my liking. It was a little too greasy for me and barely had any mushrooms in it which i was really looking forward to.

I really liked my Italian Job here last night, right along with the black bean soup, mint chip shake and fries.(I’m a pregnant, don’t judge.)
Only bummer is the order kiosk at the front totally didn’t like my credit card. Swiped two of them about 5 – 7 times each, wouldn’t process. Didn’t know if it was broken or just one of those swipe-readers that won’t read your card if it also has a chip. Went to the counter, processed on the first go.
So, kudos on the food. Boo on not facilitating my social avoidance through cunning use of tablets.

Excellent food. The cheeseburgers and sandwiches are amazing, and the milkshakes are, well, whatever the next level up from amazing is. haha They are truly otherworldly. Great food, fast delivery of your food. But here’s the kicker – They have great attitudes and customer service. Twice they have been out of the particular milkshake I’ve wanted, and BOTH times, separate people have offered to just give me another flavor for free. Today, the guy even offered my whole meal free.(I politely said I would still pay for my $ 8 burger and just take the free shake. Seemed fair and I didn’t want to take advantage). Who does that? Their focus seems to be on making sure the customer is happy leaves satisfied. And it’s not just because they offer something for free here and there. It’s their attitudes, their smiles, the way they keep cool even when a customer(guilty! lol) becomes irritated. And that’s what matters most. You can fix things like food quality and you can alter your prep methods if you have to, even order from new distributors, but good, quality customer service is either there or it isn’t. And these guys have it hardwired into their DNA. Bravo, Melt! :)

Really? nothing to write home about. Everything seems very mediocre and I could do just as well at home, which says something as I am not much of a cook! Why don’t they have a bathroom!!! So annoying My friend was also extremely unimpressed with the sweet potato fries she bought here.

Mediocre Grill Cheese for a lot of Cheddar! I wanted to go to this place forever since seeing their adds showing perfectly grilled sandwiches and Beer for some deal. Finally did and it’s kind of a disappointment. I ordered the Italian and a drink. I originally was going to get sweet potato fries but found out there is only ketchup to dip. Nothing good like chipotle aioli or garlic something… My grill cheese was undercooked with not a lot of cheese or flavor. I’d put this place into the fast food category. It’s better than McDonalds but not much else.

After driving around hungry we Unilocaled and low and behold up came Melt 2 blocks away. Well let’s give it a try. The staff welcomed us very nicely and took our order. I had the burger and wow what a great burger. The wife had a great salad. Mandy had Patty melt and Kris joined me in having that great burger. It will be a nice little goto spot when we are in the bay.

A pricing paradox. Feels a bit overpriced for a grilled cheese and tomato soup, but seems like a bargain for filling meal in the Financial District. They do have burgers now, but you can get those anywhere really. I’ve been coming here since their first location for my comfort grilled cheese fix. Definitely a must for cheese lovers. Classic Grilled Cheese: Like the homemade classic, except with real aged cheddar instead of American cheese product slices. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Kraft singles and I do despise when bougie grilled cheese joints are stingy with the cheese and the sandwich is not runny. Thankfully, they did a great job of replicating the gooey texture while still giving a healthy dose of fancy cheddar. Crispy white bread all around, though not nearly as buttery as some places. Two Tomato Basil Soup: Way better than Campbell’s Condensed; you can definitely tell it’s quite fresh. But it doesn’t try to get too fancy, so it still tastes like tomato soup, just high quality. A necessity pairing for the Classic Grilled Cheese!

When I first tried The Melt at a pre-opening Unilocal event in their first location on New Montgomery, I have to admit I thought the concept of a grilled cheese shop was if not absurd, then quite thin. I mean how can you make a business based on something that everybody(and I mean everybody) can make? But then I thought back on the first time I visited the American Grilled Cheese Kitchen and said to myself, well, it can be done if you make the sandwiches interesting and appetizing. Cubano anyone? I just don’t think The Melt ever made sandwiches that were unique, just nostalgic. The first time I came to the One Embarcadero Center was nearly two years ago when they looked to be struggling with their limited menu. At the time, I tried their Classic Grilled Cheese Sandwich, which was literally melted cheddar on white, and added a cup of their Two Tomato Basil Soup(photo: ). It came to about $ 7.90 and was put into a nice, little box that made me think it was my first day of first grade at Daniel Webster Elementary. In fact, I ate it on a bench all by myself just like I did all those years ago when my teacher Miss Kullman told me to stop being so shy and try making new friends. Easy for that bitch to say, her and her bye-bye arms. But I digress. Flash forward to a couple of weeks ago, and I returned with a colleague. Now the place is bustling with people waiting in line to order. Clearly the owners had figured out that grilled cheese by itself was not a draw. So the menu now features four kinds of burgers, four kinds of chicken sandwiches, three kinds of salads, three kinds of fries, two kinds of mac n’ cheese, two kinds of soup, and even desserts, shakes and beer. Apparently they’re throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks on the menu. The name doesn’t fit as snugly anymore. Ironically, however, my colleague ordered what I did two years ago, the Classic plus the Two Tomato Basil Soup, and then added an order of Naked Fries which she generously shared with me(photo: ). That came to $ 10.35. I, on the other hand, avoided the cheese and the meat and went for the $ 4.95 Large Caesar Salad, which wasn’t bad(photo: ). It just wasn’t all that unique. Fuzio upstairs makes a better one. One day perhaps, The Melt will resolve its identity crisis. FOOD — 3 stars… they still have passable grilled cheese but have expanded their menu to broaden its appeal presumably AMBIANCE — 3 stars… stand-up tables don’t do it for me, so get a patio table if you can SERVICE — 2.5 stars… very automatic TOTAL — 3 stars… The Melt has drifted, maybe it should be renamed To Melt or Not to Melt

Want overpriced grilled cheese sandwiches? If you answered«yes,» then by all means, come here. Came here because I lost a game of rock, paper, scissors with my friends. You can tell by my sarcastic tone that I’m not a fan of this place. And yes, I am a sore loser. So I had their bacon cheeseburger with overpriced fries and plain drink. All of it tasted like Carl’s Jr. or Jack In The Box fast-food. I should have ran to McDonald’s instead and saved myself the $ 15.

I’ve been here plenty of times after some good ‘ol weekday drinking but today’s sober experience compelled me to write a review. and so it begins: I visited the Melt for my afternoon snack which was around 3:00. I couldn’t decide on whether I wanted a sandwich only or add a side of mac n cheese. I ended up making the grown up decision and order the combination in sandwich form because food comas make me unproductive. I ordered a Mac Daddy which is essentially a mac n cheese sandwich(yes, i needed my mac n cheese fix!) with bacon, sharp cheddar and jalapenos on garlic toast(around $ 6.50). Let me preface this next sentence by stating that I have dined at all types of establishments from Michelin Stars to 0 stars and DAMNTHATWAS A BOMBSANDWICH! The cheese skirt was perfect! Cheese skirt = melted cheese around the sandwich that is a little crunchy. To top it all off, they gave me a free apple or cookie! I chose the apple so that I can keep eating these bad boys. Yeah, I get this place offers a more expensive grilled cheese but don’t knock it til you try it. I won’t usually rate«fast foodish» places 5 stars but the sandwich gave me the WOW factor which defaults any place to 5 stars.

There is something comforting about a grilled cheese sandwich. Its warm, a bit salty. There is nice balance of crunch and goeyness. When the craving struck and some of my coworkers decided to make a grilled cheese run at Melt and I couldn’t resist. I ordered the cheddar cheese with grilled onions and jalapenos grilled inside. It was a decent sandwich but it really was way way too greasy which made me feel really guilty about eating such unhealthy greasy food. Also, the oil almost made the sandwich soggy and less crispy than it could have been. While eating out generally means you’re not eating healthy, its just a bit too much for me here. This disappoints me because it really doesn’t have to be that way. Its relatively cheap and you can’t get a grilled cheese anywhere else close by for that price so I’ll give them an extra star. Maybe if they try to tone the oil down a bit future I’ll return but as it is now, I won’t likely return.
