I came here with a vegan friend for breakfast. I’m always stoked when I can find a place where we both get our needs met! First of all, Emily was incredibly helpful and so cute! What a dream staff to have. She knew everything on the menu and was so friendly. A+ for Emily. The kitchen staff also seemed super nice. Also always stoked when the staff is nice. I got huevos for breakfast with a side of beans(ok the beans here are incredibly delicious!) and it was a huge meal, and it was insanely delectable. I also got a beer, because it was the freakin weekend. I went back later that night and got a shrimp taco and was not disappointed. The tofu is great for vegans. The plantains are also super yummy. This place is well prices and delicious! Will definitely be back.

Been here a few times before I had this Unilocal account and always loved their tostada bowls. Today was a little colder so I decided to try their Pozole Rojo and horchata. The Pozole was decent. The base was yummy but there didn’t seem to be any seasoning on the pork. I kind of got passed that after adding some salt and pepper. What really disappointed me was the horchata. Nothing tastes better with Mexican food than horchata, but this one was just… Not good. I don’t know if it was the end of the night or an old batch but the horchata itself was really chalky and lacked the sweetness of cinnamon. So I just decided to add water because I felt that it was inappropriate to send it back. I’ll keep coming back for the tostada bowls, but that’s about it.

Healthy and Fresh Mexican Food in the Mission District! My mother and I ate dinner at The Little Chihuahua Mexican Restaurant on the evening of July 30th. The restaurant is located at 581 Valencia Street in the Mission District and it is a small casual place with a relaxed, peaceful and comfortable atmosphere with cute and modern décor. There were long wooden communal tables inside the building for seating and you ordered off of a menu, unlike the majority of the taquerias in the Mission District. I ordered the vegetarian taco with a side of Mexican-style rice and warm black beans. Everything tasted so delicious, fresh, and well-prepared! I really enjoyed the healthy twist that this place put on traditional Mexican foods, and also their focus on organics and sustainability. It was refreshing! The service was also friendly and efficient. I would highly recommend The Little Chihuahua to anyone in San Francisco who is looking for healthy and organic versions of authentic Mexican foods.

Everything was closed on ½/15, so this was the next open restaurant we walked by and then into. Clearly a kind of hipster restaurant, but I don’t think the food necessarily reflects the funky décor. I tried the wild mushroom and carne asada tacos. Wild mushroom: weird. Too weird for me to ever order again. Carne asada: Pretty good but slightly bland. There was a green sauce, but it didn’t come with pico de gallo or anything which threw me off. Moral of the story: Maybe pass on this place and walk 1 more block down to the mission for a bigger array of flavorful food. If you’re in the neighborhood, it’s not half bad. Which also means that it’s not half good.

We ordered the Chicken Enchiladas and the Cheese Enchiladas, as well as the Guacamole through the CAVIAR food delivery app. The enchiladas were ice cold and terrible. They were absolutely way to spicy. The enchiladas were mostly onions, and the onions were burnt and bitter(which says a lot, seeing that they were uncomfortably spicy). They lacked chicken and cheese(in the chicken enchilada, there wasn’t a bit of chicken until two bites in, then that was all. In the cheese enchiladas, the one tiny cube of cheese was an insult and seemed deliberate and should have been shredded and hot and melted, NOT a cold cube), which should have been the main ingredient. We could have enjoyed the accompanied beans and rice, if the serving size weren’t so miniscule. We actually measured the portion of each beans and rice out to be a tad above two tablespoons. No self respecting Mexican restaurant or chef would ever portion out such an unkind amount. In a City with such a wonderful and thriving and diverse Latin community, I’m surprised that a restaurant could lack the ability to make a simple dish such as the cheese and chicken enchiladas so awful. And to add insult to injury, the stale cold corn chips that came with the guacamole were nothing more than broken bits & pieces. The guacamole was fine enough, but I would have preferred it with far less pico de gallo, if any.

If it’s your first time, go for a breakfast burrito with carne asada, you won’t regret it. The to-go version will come in the typical burrito foil wrap, but if you get it to eat there, you will be a little surprised – you’ll get it on a plate, on it’s side, with a couple of delicious sauces drizzled on it. So you get your fork and knife, slice a piece of your burrito and take a bite – don’t we all eat our burritos like that? Overall, it’s a bit on the pricier side compared to the neighborhood mexican restaurants, but it’s worth the extra price(sometimes). For example, on a typical meal, I would spend about $ 14(burrito + extras, chips, etc). Compare this to the usual $ 7.99 or so you would spend just across the street. I did once try their plantain burrito and I wasn’t a fan. I believe they placed the entire plantain in my burrito so the flavor really dominated everything else in the burrito, it just felt like I was biting into The sauces they have at the garnish table are great and taste fresh, try out a few and don’t be afraid to get the hotter ones. Needless to say, get the chips so you can dip, unless you want to use a spoon and be weird like that.

The hominy here was more corny than other pozoles I’ve had recently. And to that I have mad props. The portion size was good for the price. It came with all the expected garnishes I would expect a good pozole to. But, the included pork was pretty dry. And I wasn’t the hugest fan of what tasted like a strong tomato base.
I like me a long cooked stew where the juicy fatty meat falls off the bone. This felt like something that was made a little more short order. Still tasty but, not the kind of sensual experience I think of when I think of a good pozole.

Stopped here the other day with some of my friends. The ambiance is very hipster and cute. The service was super friendly. The only complaint I have was that it was super hot outside and they didn’t have ac. And after walking around it would have been nice to sit down in a restaurant with an ac. I got the carne asada tostada salad. All the ingredients tastes fresh and the meat was cooked perfectly. I just wish that they would crumble the queso fresco instead of doing it in cubes. Passion fruit mimosas didn’t really taste like passion fruit till the end(where the pulp was) but it was still good. We drank the whole pitcher. Overall I would recommend this place for a quick Mexican food place, I love that all there ingredients are organic.

3.5 — My friends & I stopped by earlier today for brunch. Most of us were craving Mexican, so as we were walking around looking for places to eat, we stumbled on TLC. The bf had heard such great things about it, so we thought why not?! Between the 4 of us, we got 2 carne asada quesadillas, 1 taco salad, 1 el pastor burrito, 2 bowls of chips(.50 cents for small, $ 1 for large), and one pitcher of their Passion fruit mimosa. I got the quesadillas and I personally thought it could’ve been better, but it was still good. The actual steak was delicious, but just overall I felt my quesadilla was lacking of more flavor. The bf’s el pastor burrito was just alright as well. I did love their guac, their salsa selection, & chips. Mimosas didn’t really taste passion-fruity, but who can complain about a mimosa?! Still drank all of it. Even though I wasn’t as satisfied with my food today, I would still recommend. The overall ambience is very cute & hipster-esque plus the service is friendly. Come here if you’re looking to enjoy some SF vibes, but if you’re craving authentic AUTHENTIC Mexican food like I was today, you’re better off at El Farolito or Los Cayotes. Don’t forget to bust your table when you’re done!

I’m not sure what happened. Did you get a new chef? The tomatillo salsa was watered down and had no kick. So I went back for the Habanero, which had more spice but was doused in lime juice. My taco. my sad, sad taco. Did you just serve me a pre-frozen corn tortilla?! It wasn’t even luke warm! I ended up eating my bland chicken with the cabbage. cabbage! The chips are good. The location is perfectly located to all that is fun and hip on Valencia. They even have two tables for outdoor seating. I’ve only ever had the shrimp burrito here and it was delicious each time. It’s been about a year since I’ve eaten at LC, I dare say I haven’t missed much.

My friend was recently on a mission to find breakfast tacos, which it turns out they have at Little Chihuahua. Coincidentally, I had been wanting to try their Fried Plantain and Black Bean Burrito, which has appeared on many lists as one of the best veg burritos in the city. So that’s what I got. I gotta say, though, I was kind of disappointed. I love fried plantains, and the burrito was enjoyable, but I think maybe I’m just more of a burrito traditionalist? And I’m not really into the whole sweet-and-salty combination thing? Anyway, maybe try it, and make up your own mind. The tortilla chips were extremely fresh and flaky, the salsa was good, and the burrito ingredients were high-quality. Service was fast and friendly. Prices are a bit high(my burrito plus a Diet Coke was $ 13.20). My friend reported that her breakfast tacos were a bit fancy, and a little different from the traditional Texas style, but hit the spot.

I was just watching a rerun of «Check, Please! Bay Area» and realized I plum forgot to review my experience here. The young mother who picked it was raving about the convenience of this slightly higher-end taqueria as well as the Salmon Taco and Agave Wine Margaritas at the Noe Valley location. The Mission outlet doesn’t have the same family-friendly vibe to me because the space is smaller, and of course, it’s surrounded by a number of authentic taquerias that make its presence here less than necessary. One sure sign of its lack of authenticity is the lack of menudo on their menu. It was Saturday, and I like my go-to comfort food readily available. Alas, I ordered the closest option available. But first, we took advantage of the bowl of Tortilla Chips which tasted quite fresh and crisp(photo: ). And of course, that gave us a key opportunity to peruse the fresh salsa bar. While not quite as immaculately maintained as the«Check, Please!» episode would have you believe, there was quite a selection(photo: ). That was holding us well until my order arrived, the $ 8.95 Pozole Rojo(photo: ). While it wasn’t menudo, it was a decent enough bowl of pork stew dominated by the red chili-tinged broth. It was chock full f ingredients — purple corn, garlic, guajillo chiles and onions — and topped with julienned shreds of cabbage salad, cilantro, onions and radishes. It was certainly a pretty, California-style presentation for such a peasant dish, but it lacked that in-the-gut feeling of satisfaction I get from the best menudo. Still, I am curious to try one of their specialty burritos and probably having it at their Noe Valley location since their culinary DNA appears to be a better fit there. Maybe if they hired the«Yo Quiero Taco Bell» chihuahua as a mascot… FOOD — 3 stars… a pretty pozole but not all that authentic in flavor AMBIANCE — 3 stars. small and more hipster than I was expecting SERVICE — 3.5 stars… pretty reasonable TOTAL — 3 stars… if taquerias like La Cumbre or El Farolito wear you out, this may be for you
