THEHOTTESTNEWCLUBINSANFRANCISCO! Formerly Glas Kat/Tabu, I was fortunate enough to attend The Grand Nightclub’s private preview party last night. Official public grand opening is 12.31.11. It is very rare that I give nightclubs a 5STAR review but the new owners did an AMAZING job on the remodel(the talk of the night). The once gritty Glas Kat/Tabu is now a beautiful upscale venue. Since it was just a preview party and not a regular club night, I can’t give my usual detailed club review so this is a venue only review. D R E S S C O D E Though there was no dress code enforced for the private party, however, when The Grand becomes open to the public I’m sure the dresscode of no tennis shoes and sportswear will be enforced. B A R S There are 4 bars; two on the main level and two upstairs. It was PACKED last night and I never had a problem getting a drink. D R I N K S Top shelf alcohol was $ 10. Cocktails were STRONG which is always a plus. CC’s accepted with no minimum. M U S I C There were 4 different DJs spinning Top 40s, Hip Hop, Pop, House and Trance. The sound system was clear and crisp. C R O W D The crowd was more mature and very classy(no sloppy youngins or thugs). I thought it would be an Asian party but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was very diverse. I hope it stays this way. A M B I A N C E /D É C O R For those of you familiar with Glas Kat/Tabu, it’s no longer just a dreary grey concrete all around. There’s pretty lace-like covered chandeliers and beautiful tapestry covered walls. Numerous laser lights reminded me of a rave. I loved the huge disco ball which played videos; very cool. The smoke machine periodically added a blast of cool air which helped cool down the shufflers. The main level has a huge DJ booth overlooking the dancefloor. There were elevated bottleservice areas that were roped off so you don’t have to worry about«unwanted» guests. The dancefloor was a good size and though packed we still had room to dance. Once use to be the thai bar upstairs is now the main bottleservice area. There were about 30 or so bottle services tables(~40 total in entire club) with comfy couches. Most of the tables gave a nice bird’s eye view of the dancefloor. The BEST feature is the lighting which constantly changed so YOUCANACTUALLYSEEPEOPLE’S FACES. No further explanation needed here if you know what I’m saying. It was also very well ventilated so no sweating or BO here. R E S T R O O M S There were unisex restrooms on the main floor and the second floor. The restrooms were very bare. I wish they did a better job making the bathrooms reflect the classy, upscale venue. P A R K I N G Street parking is very difficult. Parking lot across the street at Wellsfargo/Starbucks has a $ 10 flat fee. Beautiful, classy, and very spacious, this nightclub reminds of ones you would find in Vegas. The«Grand» it really IS! P. S. — There’s a special preview event this Wednesday, 11.23.11.
