Time: 5:48pm/60°F partly cloudy Purpose: Had a list of closed up business, but new business wasn’t listed. Calls for quick brief visit to acquire new info. Set-up: Place remains unchanged from the former The Fudge House. There are three display cases along with couple of wooden bins stuff with bags of taffy. Acrylic candy apple bin nestle on top on cases with other specialty offerings. On one side of shop pastel tile wall with brass kettle mounting on open flame stove. Wall hanging with equipment/supplies for chocolate and other confection making on production counter. Other area with bakery racks with pans of fudge ready to go. Menu mounted on wall with easy to understand prices. Staff: One guy about early 30s stirring away on kettle. Didn’t want to bother guy as I told him don’t stop what he’s doing. Hate being a showstopper when I’m not in the mood to buy. He was cool understand where I’m coming from. I scan counter to see if there were samples. None were found and I left it at that. Later he stop what he was doing saying, he was done waiting for cool down. Friendly guy all business no BS around. Cleanliness: Grade A, impeccable very clean no chocolate shave or pieces seen. Work area all wipe down with equipment store in their perspective place. No customer interaction with and open or uncovered products. Worker wear latex gloves when dealing with customers. Eats/Drinks: Cream vanilla fudge was pretty good had hints of real vanilla bean extract. Since its made from sugar, cream, and butter. There wasn’t any waxy aftertaste that you’ll get from drugstore version available mostly next to register. This fudge was smooth no chalky grainy taste. It was pleasing to taste buds. Best of all not overly sweet. I like their product line, but wish more fruity fudge were available. Since they’re new, we’ll have to wait and see. Main Features: House made fudge blocks. Products/Services: Menu posted on picture. Takes plastic, half or full pound available. Chocolate covered pretzel/pretzel rods, chocolate covered marshmallow, brittle/bark. Punch Lines: Clean, new, most goods made in-house, no samples, friendly, knowledgeable, better than average, pleasing flavors, pricey, drool-worthy, zippy service, can’t go wrong, nothing out of the ordinary, kept its standards, tucked away in Pier 39, unpretentious, full service, tourists. Tradeoffs: Market price for fudge is around $ 9 – 12 a pound. Here, its $ 10.99 for half a pound. You lost a pounds worth because of the area its located. Final Thoughts: Fudge confectioners located in the touristy area of Pier 39. For some reason I’m not a fudge person as much as chocolate. I guess the overly sweetness and density never appeals to me. Not to say completely avoid them. Now, if there are new unusual flavors that intrigued me then I would probably go for it. If you’re in the area wanting something sweet beside chocolate/candy shops, this may be your next best bet to cure sweet tooth craving.
