ISNOTCLOSED! Visited on during Sunday Brunch 9÷16÷12 Owner David was incredibly warm and accommodating. Food was delicious and portions were very generous. Home made slow drip coffee system, spicy bloodies and big mimosas were spot on and very cost effective. I ordered an omelet(shrimp, avocado, red peppers, green onions & pepper jack cheese) with spicy house potatoes that I highly recommend, very flavorful and filling for $ 9. Also a small fresh fruit cup came to each of us for FREE(strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, cantaloupe & grapes). Will absolutely return.

Funky throw back to the 1950’s — 60’s. Yes, this is your father’s dive bar! Recently cleaned-up by new owners who, irresistibly, kept the same big ‘ol wood bar with stone and mirror back and mix-matched bathroom décor. They’ve added period light fixtures and“new” recycled furniture to go with the upgraded food menu. The food is good and fresh, but I’m not sure what hours they serve. The bartenders can make ANYTHING you want! I recommend it for a casual, comfy and reasonably priced place to meet friends or family. Totally kid freindly in the restaurant area during earlier hours. It can get a little«interesting» at night. Parking is — well — the Mission St. usual. Guess I’m partial to this place as it has a lot of good memories for me. There are usually lots of local characters and drunks here in the evening that define the old SF neighborhood, with some of the old employees from decades ago.

Wish there was a minus star. Stark décor, unwelcoming, unfriendly. Went this afternoon on way back from errands and wished not wasted the time. Apparently new management, old crew and crowd gone. Stick to real Excelsior establishments further down Mission, or head towards Geneva and Crocker area places. Save your time. Hmmm, read«Bryan M:‘s review of 3/27, and btw I was all in purple for«Spirit Day» today 10/20, I wonder…Somehow showing this business is «Closed» LOL, it’s still there calling itself«Doctors Lounge» hmmmm. just fyi.

This place is really old school. I heard that it is changing owners in a few weeks and will be remodeled into a lounge. That’s a shame. The bartender that we had last night was really nice. They have a good juke box. Not much in the way of selection, but it is a dive afterall.

Avoid at all cost. I took a couple of out of town friends here for a quick breakfast before their flight out. Thought it would be convenient since it was in the neighborhood. While we we waiting for our food, a gentleman at the counter started loudly holding forth about the evils of homosexuality, equating it with pedophilia, and quoting outlandish statistics about disease. Normally i do not hold an establishment responsible for their guests, but the bar tender looked on and nodded with total agreement. My guests, oh yeah, they are gay. So i could do nothing but sit there red faced trying to decide between a confrontation and the moral high ground. Fortunately indecision held the day.

Meh, I think I need a second opinion. I came to the Dr’s on Friday(New Years Day) and was hoping for breakfast on a recommendation from my friend Becca. Sure, I was hungover after a long New Year’s Eve celebration, but I thought might as well get some food. They don’t serve food during the week, only weekends. We settled for a bloody mary, it’s kinda like food right? I like it spicy, but Becca hated the dose of horseradish. I thought it was okay myself. Although most people were welcoming, there were a couple guys that were bugging. I guess after quite a few drinks, they lost their filter and felt like they would say whatever they liked. Although this has nothing to do with the service or the bar, it was the experience that may keep me away and made me leave without finishing my bloody. *Sigh* I’m sure you have your good moments, but it’s just not my thing.

It was very clear the minute I walked in this was not my world. A quick glance around: — 49er memorabilia everywhere, including a Joe Montanta poster taped to the wall. — People drinking. Early. A lot. — Attire of choice was one size too large football jerseys. — Did I mention people complementing their breakfast with booze? — Football on multiple TVs, reminding me I have about a 30 sec attention span for sports. Hurray Sunday paper. One might ask, Jason, what the hell are you doing there? Well, yesterday was Excelsior Day in my endless adventures around this fine city, and The Dr’s, like all things, was put on the list of places to eat. And one Unilocaler below mentioned you got a bowl of fruit with your food, so I was sold. Alas, no fruit, which is why I can only give three stars. But the waitress did address me as babe, they did make my eggs whites only(they had to investigate on that one — no promises were made, so thanks), and I did get to watch a very unhappy wife try to explain to her angry mother(or was that mother-in-law?) how an iPhone works. Sample dialogue: Angry Mother: You are a terrible teacher. What are you going to do with your kids? Unhappy Wife: –blank stare– And how do I know she was unhappy? Well, judging from the looks she was giving her boozing spouse, she wasn’t too pleased with how her Sunday morning was working out. I wouldn’t be either. Overall a mixed bag — decent food, missing fruit, good people wathching. Um, Go 49ers?

This bar feels like grandma’s house. Kids’ drawings taped to the walls, Christmas decorations up year-round, people playing dice at the bar, and paper place mats on the table. It’s the only dive I can think of that still serves Fizzes. Obviously, this is not the place you go for a wild Friday(and I never have), but if you want a good working man’s(or woman’s) hangover-cure breakfast, this is where you go on a Saturday or Sunday morning. I’m talking REAL, thick slabs of bacon with your banana nut pancakes. Hollandaise-smothered eggs florentine will warm your belly, along with your choice of toast(sourdough if you’re any kind of good San Franciscan), and spicy potatoes or hash browns(spicy potatoes are my personal fave). And my favorite personal touch? The little bowls of fruit salad each person gets while their meals are being cooked. It really is like grandma’s house.

I am a fan! We came on a Thrusday night to grab some food and got much more of a really fun experience. All of the regulars are friendly and loud. The bartenders and owners are super nice. The food was delicious. With whatever you order you get bread, salad, and pasta plus your main course. It is a typical dive bar but has a lot of personality. The juke box has tunes that not many places have, such as Huey Lewis and and a lot of Neil Diamond. What a dream

Okay, so Summer(see below) tells those of us in Los Angeles about this place last year and it does not disappoint. Its breakfast time! Oh crap, the Dr’s? serves breakfast, I forgot… Everything is looking good — the coffee is horrible. The place is covered in kid drawing(on the paper place-mats), the bar is rocking(the juke was crazy — all hand written music selections!) and there was plenty of drinking going on… the only down fall is that our eggs and bacon took for everrrrrrrrrrrr. No kidding. We are pretty convinced that the chef would cook one item at a time. Per plate! Example: We both order bacon and hash browns. Are they all cooked at the same time? Nope. Seems as if one plate was finished before they moved on to the next. I don’t know if this is a normal occurrence but it was crazy… One of the customers gave us a cupcake while saying«Here, this is for the crappy service…» No kidding. But, I know this is a bar and when it comes to bar time they get that right. If we were sitting around all day the wait wouldn’t have been an issue because what they really do well is pour drinks… We’ll be back after we eat…

This bar is about one block from my house so it’s a perfect place to go so that I don’t end up in jail with a DUI. OK, so we have been wanting to go here for a long time, and we finally went about a month ago. The drinks are STIFF and CHEAP! The Jukebox is F***INGFANTASTIC and the bartenders are all really nice. There is almost always a place to sit and get this: THEYSERVEHOTAWESOMEDINNERONTHURSDAYNIGHTS. I’m talking Prime Rib, Surf & Turf, Steak, Italian, everything. And they have table service. And they have video games. OK — this is my local«Rush Inn»( ) — I think I can be a local here.

I hadn’t been here in about five years, for breakfast time drinking(after a graveyard shift). I skipped breakfast then and stuck to drinking. Well this time I returned(for food) with an Excelsior crowd from back in the day. Thursday nights at least the place serves dinner, so we made the trek over here. Yeah, still foggy. The bar was full and has some kind of rock wall at he back of the bar. I didn’t see any beer taps but plenty of bottles. Anyway the food. RACK o’ LAMB. Very good. Good flavors, well prepared and neat to eat. Worth the trip out here. They have a few other specials, but I recommend the lamb. We didn’t stay long enough for serious drinking, but it seems a friendly neighborhood place. A return is somewhere in the future.

Faded posters of Joe Montana and Steve Young on the walls — check Full selection of macro beers in bottles including Bud, Miller, and Coors — check No fancy micro beers on tap — check Selection of imports including Heineken and Corona in bottles ONLY — check Full bar that features ONE kind of tequila: Cuervo gold — check Full bar that does NOT include Frenette — check Opens at 6am — check Yup, this place is pretty divey. When I was last there the guy next to us was talking about how he just got out of prison and how he liked his parole officer. He seemed nice enough I guess. They have a few signs up that say they serve food on Thursday nights, and the sign on the front of the place says they serve breakfast and lunch. You can see the kitchen from the bar, and it looks pretty clean and organized. I can’t say I’ve eaten there but I might try it. Judging from other reviews, it might be interesting. Hawaiian BBQ next door.

great neighborhood watering hole. their drinks are strong on the good stuff and weak on the filler. they have solid bottles of bud light. always dead when I’ve been there at night, sometimes they close early because of this. weekend morning brunch is a bit pricey for a dive bar but worth it. expect to wait at least 30 min for your food. start off with a bloody mary. it’s not the best i’ve had,(no veggies except maybe celery), but It is made fresh to order and filled with a wicked lot of cheap vodka. i usually get the harold’s special, two scrambled eggs with tomatoes on an english muffin with hollandaise. all breakfast comes with a decent fruit bowl which helps pass the wait time. the dr’s might win the gold for best mother/daughter bar team in the country. a true excelsior experience.

Breakfast here is definitely an experience… The service is not so much bad as charmingly surreal. The mother/daughter cook/waitress team are a couple of characters out of a Bukowski novel… The breakfast food is pretty good though, but be prepared for a wait(albeit an entertaining one). Definitely has the authentic seediness factor going on… Never seems to be anyone in this place at night. The bartenders are nice though and the cocktails are generously mixed. And they sell self-published books, presumably by someone associated with the place, although I keep forgetting to ask. Anyway I keep going back for breakfast, so this place must be doing something right.

Three stars for cheap breakfast and providing the most authentic small town seedy restaurant sports bar feel that san francisco can provide. $ 5 for a huge plate of french toast. Orange juice that is the farthest thing from fresh squeezed and tastes exactly like what you would expect from a diner somewhere in the middle of nowhere. I found out about this place from my uncle in sacramento, actually. A huge 49er’s fan, he always stops by here for eggs, wads of bacon, and a bloody mary before heading to a game. It’s a game day kind of place. Fortunately for non-football fan me, it wasn’t 49er mania yesterday.
