My current go-to burrito joint. Cheap, convenient, and way more than enough food. Right next to the 16th bart station. Never had a really long line, so it’s always a quick in and out after work or a long night(open surprisingly late). I recommend the California Super Burrito with carne asada or Super Burrito with chicken. Either will be all the food you need for an entire day.

I ordered a burrito mojado and I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the price was, how delicious it was(comparable to my other favorite Taqueria(Taqueria Cancun)…I loved the flavor of their fresh tortilla chips and salsa verde as well!!! Definitely worth the money.(They were recommended by a friend who buys me their tamales, which are also very good)

Three of us enjoyed chicken tacos before a show at the Victoria Theatre. They were just right street tacos. Staff was friendly enough. There’s a great choice of salsas and a variety of drinks. It is a tough neighborhood to operate in. Some of the patrons were down and outers, we saw the soliciting for food another reviewer mentioned, but only one person was disruptive. I’d rate more stars based on the food but the tables and floors needed attention, lots of crumbs, small trash.

In the area and wanted a shrimp burrito. Tbh my friends and I were drawn to this place because it was very spacious and almost completely empty. The mixture of gangsta rap and interior murals depicting pre-colonization Mayan life was quite a combo. Anyway my food was tasty and I would totally come back to try a cactus burrito.

Not fresh. The meat are premade and its cold. Place is huge tho. The salsa bar is near the entrance. I would rather go to the one on 24th st. At least I have a groupon, otherwise not worth it.

Ugh. My chicken burrito was pretty horrible. Chicken that had the texture of cotton — but no taste. The best thing about the experience was the hot sauce which is muy bueno. Next time I’ll go to Pancho Villa.

As the Mission gets squeezed by gentrification on every side the seedy blocks just get seedier… Mission between 16th and 17th is one of the seediest blocks in San Francisco right now, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t some awesome food to be had. My gal took a chance with a groupon since we like to hang out in that part of town. I have to admit I was a little skeptical as we walked up and turned out to be pleasantly surprised. It starts with a taco bar by the door or you can order a full meal from the back counter. I got enchilada’s and a tamale while my gal got a super burrito. The tamale came cooked in it’s own banana leaf and had great presentation. Kat loved her burrito and had to take part home since it was so big. Good food, large portions, the only downside is no liquor license so no beer. Park blocks away, brave the neighborhood, and walk up to get some killer mexican food here! I’ll be back!

Came here with a Groupon. It was in a pretty seedy part of town, but you can usually find amazing food in places like that lol. There was a little taco bar right in the front, if that’s all you wanted. A great selection of meat. I will definitely try a taco next time! I got the super burrito and my fella got enchiladas and a tamale. The tamale was cooked in a banana leaf and came out so pretty on the plate. His enchiladas were great, and my super burrito was amazing. Took half of it home to eat later. Parking is all street, so park where you can safely, and stroll on in. Don’t let the street fool you. These are some good eats right here. Can’t wait to come back!!!

No mames, jipster.

Consistently cheap, but inconsistently delicious. For $ 5.75 a burrito I’m willing to gamble.

My friend and I were on a time crunch with probably not enough time to get to Cha Cha Cha’s AND make it to a show at the Victoria Theatre in 40 minutes, so I made the mistake of suggesting the taco bar here due to a sign I saw when exiting 16th St. Mission BART. I say«mistake» because due to the amount of time I had to wait in line to pay for our meal, we might as well have run down the three blocks to Cha Cha Cha’s and filled up on sangria, and run back. There were only two other people in front of me. Why did I have to wait 15 minutes to pay? The tacos were fine but a bit expensive($ 2.25 each if I remember correctly). The stars I’m giving are solely based on convenience factor and the fact that they actually had decent tripas tacos. But based on the slow ass service alone I probably won’t be back.

Taqueria Vallarta makes a solid burrito, that much is certain. The meat is fresh(though used sparingly), the rice isn’t dry, the guac is great, and the size is huge. However, what really sold me was their Groupon deal. $ 12 for $ 20? That’s a lot of food. There is better Mexican food in the Mission, but Vallarta could quite possibly have the best deal around — and that’s saying a lot!

Being next to the main entrance of the 16th Street BART station is perhaps a blessing and a curse for this third outlet of the popular Mission mini-taco empire. I like the one on 24th a lot, enough to stop in for a snack whenever there is a Sunday Streets event going on in the neighborhood. It’s quite inviting to see the mamacita making the tacos by hand at the stand in front, and at $ 1.75 a piece, it was hard not to order a half-dozen at a time. This one is not so inviting. Not because the staff isn’t nice, they are. But the number of derelicts milling about the area can get pretty exhausting, especially as you try dodging them just to enter. And that isn’t the end of it. The vagrants come in and alternately mumble and shriek their food orders to the staff in the hopes of a handout. It’s hardly a welcoming environment for anyone looking to grab some good eats. The reason I was interested in trying the place is that it’s one of the few that offer a bowl of Menudo during the week(usually it’s available just on the weekends). That’s what I ordered for $ 9.25, and it was a heaping bowl that required the slight young girl two full hands to carry to me(see photo). It was decent enough but pales in comparison to what I think is the best menudo in the city, the bowl served at Mexico Tipico in the Excelsior. It had a lot to do with the overabundance of meatless bones in the broth. While waiting for it, I did venture over to the taco stand to order a couple of them. It was a young guy who was making them, and after being told he was out of Al Pastor and Barbacoa, I was able to get two Carnitas Tacos, which frankly were too greasy even to pick up and eat(see photo). However, I still took a fork and devoured them before my menudo arrived. All in a ll, I have to admit it was not the most relaxing meal I ever had. I kept staring at my shoulder bag because I was afraid somebody else was, and every time a vagrant sauntered in, I tried to shield my food from possible spewing of any sort. FOOD — 3 stars… passable menudo but the carnitas were probably sitting in the taco stand’s warming tray too long AMBIANCE — 2 stars… a bit scary through no fault of the owners SERVICE — 3.5 stars… good enough though not overly friendly TOTAL — 3 stars… except for an emergency menudo fix, I will likely pick up the pace as I pass by this place on Mission
