This is my 6th or 7th visit to Steins and once more we’ve been so happy with our entire visit. From the sparkling restrooms with plenty of soap and towels to the perfect service from any or all of the waitresses, and I mean perfect. They’re happy to let you sample the beers, they are knowledgeable and can guide you to the correct beer to order. I LOVE ordering a liter of beer. The first half-liter quenches your thirst and the second half makes your cheeks glow.((GRIN)). The food has been superb, we’ve had the fish and chips, chicken paprika, all the various sausage dishes, with Bavarian bockwurst, Nurenberger and knockwurst, the Wiener Schnitzel and of course the superb French fries Our ten year-old twins have had Burgers, sausages and home-made chicken strips but their favorite is the perfectly battered fish and chips or any of the sausage dishes. Apparently they have deserts, but none of us have ever had room to even consider ordering any. Let me finish by reiterating the service is perfect, the atmosphere is strangely well-balanced between older couples, single guys, younger couples on dates and families like ours. Good music, excellent service, impeccably-cooked dishes and a welcoming atmosphere from both staff and diners will be bringing me back again and again. You should try it out for yourselves.

My previous experiences with Stein’s were really good. I enjoyed their food, the atmosphere, and the prices. But on my last visit, I and my wife had to leave immediately because the volume on at least one of the numerous televisions there was so loud that we could feel it vibrating in our chests. I don’t know why restaurants these days insist that a pleasant dining experience requires you to shout at the person sitting right next to you in order to be heard.

As you enter the place you find out really fast that it’s a very interesting vibe, this place is a cross between a sports bar and a German restaurant, definitely a very unique feel. The waitress tonight was very attentive, we got the weiner schnitzel, the warwurst and the smoked brotwurst, the entrée comes with 2 sides which the waitress gladly swapped for other ones that seemed a better option for us, PLUSPOINTSFORTHAT!!! We also got a .5 L of the pear cider, a .3 L for the beer special which happened to be a lager(btw the beer special was $ 3 for a .3L $ 5 for a .5L and $ 9 for a 1L, that’s crazy, that alone is worth coming back). The schnitzel was superb, it was perfectly fried and served with lemon as it should be, the sausages were ok, maybe I was just not impressed by the quality of the sausages. Anyhow, this is a great place to have a 1L mug, watch a game and get some decent grub, I will definitely be back!

My husband and I came here to check out a Warriors game. It was said to be a good place to catch the game in the Richmond. When we first arrived, it was about a half hour before the game was going to start. There was however no pre-game on the tvs. There were a couple patrons that asked if they were going to have the game on and the waitress said they will be showing it shortly. Just seemed a bit odd that a couple people had to ask before they turned the tvs to the game. It was 15 minutes before the game started that they finally changed it to the Warriors game. Just didn’t have that homer feel for the Dubs game. The atmosphere was very lacking for a sports bar. Sadly this was the game that the Warriors lost to the Bucks to end their streak but we only stayed til half time at the bar. As for the food and drinks, we ordered the spicy sausage and some fries to share along with 2 drafts each. The sausage with sauerkraut was pretty good. Honestly for me, german beer is ok. None were very memorable as in WOW I need to get that again. The fruity finish just left me not wanting another. Overall service was ok. As for a place to watch a sports game, I’d recommend somewhere else to go like the Bitter End or Yancy’s. Maybe this was an off night for the bar, but the Warriors were on a winning streak. Why the lack of enthusiasm?

They have a wall just filled with TV’s. This is a great place to watch a game or three different ones at the same time. They also have a pretty vast selection of beers and when I wasn’t sure which I wanted, they were happy to let me sample a few. The servers were all really nice and accommodating. My food came out a bit subpar(cheese hadn’t melted on those mozzarella sticks), but they didn’t hesitate to remake them for me. And even when my team lost at the end of the day, I still felt good and I guess that’s what a good bar does(but then again maybe it’s just the beer).

Very chill place to have a beer and watch a game. The servers are really nice and the food is great if you’re looking for a quick bar meal. The place is very clean and the bathrooms even have quality toilet paper! That might seem irrelevant, but after a few beers it makes a big difference… :)

So happy to have this new German restaurant with amazing authentic beers in the neighborhood! My husband had the special of the day: pork chop with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. I had a cheese burger with fries. Everything was fresh and tasty without being too trendy or gourmet. The prices are very reasonable and the diners are families, singles and low key. The only reason for 4 stars is that the German food is so good and lovingly prepared but it is overshadowed by the many tv screens with different sports going on. Loud too. With such high quality beer and food I don’t think it has to compete in the«sports bar» league.

Great neighborhood spot. We typically go to Hamburger Haven just down the street for a casual lunch/dinner meal with the kids, but I think we will have to spread it around now that we have discovered Steins. It is family owned, Austrian born father is in the kitchen working the menu items, mom is there watching the Steelers games, and I think all of their seven kids or almost all of them work shifts in the restaurant. Veronica served us yesterday, and she’s one of the kids working at the restaurant. I love supporting a local family-owned establishment. The beer was good, service was incredibly attentive, and the food was good. My daughter had the pork chops, other two kids had burgers with fries, and I had the best grilled cheese with fresh tomato sandwich and fries I’ve had in a long time. Décor is simple, casual, and cool. Lots of screens for sports. A German inspired food place in the middle of Clement street is a find. I’ll definitely be back often.

We walked in and took the first table by the door. Nobody acknowledged us despite my assertive attentiveness and persistence in attempting to lock eyes with and speak with a staff member. After about 5 – 7 minutes, an adorable and sweet blonde waitress came and asked if we have been waited on, and is shocked that we haven’t. I give her the complete 5 stars for attentiveness and courtesy for the rest of the night. The beers were wonderful, our waitress highlighted the specials and helped us tailor our desires with the menu based on the types of beers we typically enjoy drinking. This was highly appreciated and did not go unnoticed! The roasted chicken, pork chops, sausage entrée, and club sandwich were not much to write home about. I would definitely return with a good group for a fun beer and pub snack night, but the menu was underwhelming at most and mediocre at best.

Accessibility(Parking /Wait Time) 1⁄1 Star: street parking wasn’t too hard to find but I think I got lucky. No wait to be seated. _____ Service(Waiter /Cleanness /Ambiance) 0⁄1 Star: Waiter wasn’t good. Kept forgetting our waters. _____ Taste(0=Not Edible /1=Edible /2=Good(average) /3=Must Try!) 1⁄3 Stars: the food is edible but was bad. Don’t order food here, just get beers. Beer battered ship tasted like dirty water. Sasage sandwich was more like a hot dog. Gunush was tought, bitter, and a small portion. _____ Overall Experience 2⁄5 Stars _____ Last Words Do not eat the food!

I classic spot to be for Happy Hour. Just come before 6pm M-F. I would give it a 3.5stars, but I’m just rounding up. Note: If you want to make reservations, at least half of the people need to be there to get a table. However you can opt to go to the courtyard and find a bench/barrel for your group. It’s always hard to find a great place for happy hour. Not only do you need to have great drinks, but also great food as well. Stein’s offer both and they’re not that bad either. I usually stick with the appetizer choices from the HH menu. The house fries are a must have. The meats are ok. Pretty tender, but not all that flavorful. As for the drinks, they offer a variety during HH for your party. This is one of the advantages if you have cocktail, wine, and beer drinkers. Because Steins offer something for each of them. Though the list isn’t that much, but at least there’s something for everyone in your party if people care for different things. Be sure to try their versions of the classic cocktails. They taste a bit lighter than the traditional.

We came here last night to watch the Warriors game and watched the team DEMOLISH the Cavs! Whoot-woot! The place was packed and we went through some nicely priced and great tasting German beers while making friends along the way. Beer was priced $ 3/small, $ 5/medium, and $ 9/large. I’m not much of a beer drinker but I enjoyed their Hefeweizen which they recommended. The long bar faces a wall with a row several flat screen televisions, it’s a great place to watch a game. There are newish tables and seating that also face the TVs, if that’s your preference. We ordered some schnitzel, calamari, and goulash. You definitely don’t need come here just for the food since it didn’t really knock our socks off, but we were glad that they offer them since we were famished and enabled us to have more beers! Totally an A-OK time. I have a friend who’s a regular and says it’s a bit quiet and have older clientele. I am giving it an extra star because it is family owned and they are super nice people who remember their customers’ names.(It’s just a disappearing breed of business in San Francisco). Plus really great beers! Check them out!

I love Steins!!! The service is stellar. It’s a family run business and it feels like one. The beer selection is pretty vast and there is always a special. The menu is very sausage centric and since I don’t dig on swine, there’s not much for me. But the few dishes I’ve had, I relished. The fried shrimp appetizer is tasty and the fish and chips entrée is decent. The sauerkraut is off the chain!!! Great place to get together with friends and watch soccer.

Came here to watch Game 5 of the World Series. Got there about an hour before the game, managed to get a good booth on the wall and a perfect view of the game. I ordered brats with sauerkraut and mash with a nice big 32oz Dunkelweiss to wash it down. it would not be my last. Great place to watch the game. Modern environment and great German food.

Over the years, I’ve reviewed some random places, whether it be hole in wall joints or obscure neighborhood spots(which are probably the types of places we all frequent the most), but this might be one of the more random ones. Not so much because of Steins itself, but because it’s a casual, German-American restaurant/bar…located among Clement’s wealth of Asian businesses. «One of these things is not like the other…» Okay, maybe it’s really not THAT random to find a place like Steins on Clement, but it was definitely an unexpected discovery when my friend and I walked in to catch the end of the Warriors game. We went from grabbing a beer and getting dinner elsewhere to sticking around to check out their menu, which features a variety of bar bites and German staples. Of the roughly half dozen German dishes listed, both my friend and I decided to try the WIENERSCHNITZEL — Breaded and Fried Pork Tenderloin served with Mashed Potatoes and Salad($ 14). Now, I understand that it’s traditionally served«naked»(and is usually made of veal over pork), but boy this could have used some sort of gravy/sauce. The taste wasn’t bad, and the cut was pretty big, but the pork wasn’t exactly juicy and the breading was a bit dry. Plus, it would have added a layer of flavor to an otherwise monotone dish. I mean, even the salad was hardly dressed! As underwhelming as the food may have been though, Steins still has some appeal as a drinking spot or to catch a game. There are a number of tables throughout the place, several TV’s, and a nice selection of beers. Their offerings may not be super extensive, but the half dozen German imports are pretty legit. Plus, the steins are pretty sizable for the money… which just might be reason enough on its own to stop off for a drink! I’m just not sure about any of the entrees… In any case, prost!

Not as good as I expected. When my friends and I first walked in, we were greeted by an air of awkwardness where we stood there for a few minutes(we could of walked out with no one noticing… and maybe we should have). The bar tender finally said something and waved us towards an empty table. We were given a menu and ordered soon after. I wasn’t very hungry and didn’t want anything fried or anything fatty(haha this is a German restaurant who am I kidding?) so I went with the rainbow trout. My bf and friend got something with pork and beer. Anyway, the food came out and seriously it looked like a plate that I would have put together if I was at a crappy buffet and the only thing that looked edible was the fish and salad and that is why my plate looked empty. My trout was cooked flat. Probably used a flatiron or something. It was also very small, fit for a tiny kitten. Beer apparently was really good, but they aren’t the ones brewing it. There was only one waitress that night but she wasn’t bad. Although one more person wouldn’t hurt… and no, the bartender doesn’t count.

This is one of my fav spots in the inner Richmond — I go at least once a week. The food is consistently good and the service is great! I know this is a German spot but the burger and club sandwich is so good that I have a hard time swaying from that. Note that the burger isn’t great because it’s unique(like Nopa or Spruce) but because it tastes like a homemade burger. As I live in the city, I can’t grill myself so it’s great to have a spot I can go to get that taste and is relatively inexpensive. And then there is the beer. German beer. Enough said. If you’re lucky they will have the Spaten Oktoberfest on tap as they try to get that in as much as possible(it sells out quickly, as you can imagine) — if they have it, get two. We also love Veronica! She’s always so pleasant and gives great suggestions! She also always remembered my order — a great spot for locals!

I have a hard time with the review. Ive been for good stints and mediocre stints. I think the food has good intent but I’ve had some sub par meals. I think stick to the beer is the way to go. It’s a large selection and it rotates often. Perhaps the closest to a selection of Belgians I’ve seen in the home country itself. 3.75 stars
