I agree wholeheartedly with the reviewer who spoke about the owner. The food is really pretty good here, and the waitresses are very sweet; the owner is a total jerk. I’ve eaten here many times as I work nearby, and he barks at and belittles his employees every time, in front of everyone. I always tell myself to boycott it but occasionally I break down because there aren’t many choices in the area. That guy needs to check himself in a big way.

Me and a friend just happened to be passing by this eatery and thought we’d get a bite to eat. We were more than pleasantly surprised. The menu was just mind blowing! And the food was delicious. The only thing better than the meal was the service we received. Not only was our order taken and prepared quickly and brought to the table we chose out front, but the attentive staff were extremely friendly and professional! Big shout out to Zara, Gulia, and Karen! We’ll be back!

Prefect for breakfast. I came for at 7am and it was the only place open at that time. I had a beautiful omelette and the owner, Joe, served me. Very tasty, food was fresh and well cooked. Potatoes were perfect and the coffee was perfect.

An excellent breakfast … nice ambience, attentive service, good food. We had the Mediterranean scramble, Spanish omelette and an order of eggs, linguica, and side of ham. Breakfasts come with choice of hash browns, or home fries(strongly suggested — come with diced peppers and sliced zucchini and nicely seasoned!). Also choose toast from white, wheat, sourdough or English muffin. The menu is best described as comfort food, but there’s a wide range of breakfast, lunch and dinner options. For lunch I order the Fettucine Alfredo, which comes not like the«American» version(heavy sauce with cream and butter) but with a nicely seasoned sauce that is light in texture and contains seasoning and spices that I haven’t found since I had Fettucine Alfredo in Istanbul! Given the owners(Joe) heritage from the Mediterranean/Middle East I can easily see and taste that wonderfully different influence in cuisine. A must try !! Overall a great experience and SOMA’s is a favorite for us. Will be back !

My breakfast is been always excellent in this place. The ambience is pretty silent and the staff very is polite. I’m glad that I don’t have to wait in line to get my first meal of the day. Recommend!

Ordered breakfast for two from hotel room. Met driver in lobby and returned to room, to discover no napkins or any utensils in bag when getting back to my room. Called the restaurant, spoke to the restaurant owner and was told that they do not provide napkins or utensils. He said they provide the food and he hung up the phone on me. I then went back and read the reviews from previous people and see how bad they are and decided to just throw the bag of delivered food in the trash and to go find a nice restaurant to have breakfast. I wish I had read the reviews first, I would have saved myself an hour and ½ waiting, $ 54.00 on my credit card, and the aggravation of being hung up on by an angry restaurateur.

I’ve been coming here for 8 months at least twice a week, because I go to school across the street. The girls are always really nice and the food is good. However, the owner is very rude. he is constantly belittling the servers in front of customers. I have heard him yell at them multiple times. He is rude to customers all the time as well. Today was the last straw. I called in to order what I do every time, and he rudely interrupted me multiple times. after making up my order for me, and me telling him that wasn’t what I asked for he made several rude comments to the point where I had to tell him I would no longer continue going there. This is not the first time this has happened and many other people have told me similar things.

SUPERSHADYRESTAURANTPLEASEREADBEFOREGOINGTHEREWITHYOURCREDITORDEBITCARD! I would put in less than a star if I could. My coworker and I went in and I treated, because I was treating he wanted to cover the tip which he did in cash. Our bill was 25.00, I put in 0 for the tip because we put 5.00 cash with the receipt. Low and behold the next day I see on my debit card they had written in and added 3.00. I thought that they had to charge gratuity up front because otherwise he wouldn’t have left the entire 5. I’m not going beyond Unilocal because it’s only 3.00 but I think that there is something super sketchy about them bringing a bill out for an amount running that amount on my card, taking 5.00 cash as tip and charging my card an additional 3.00 forcing a 8.00 tip on a 25.00 purchase from us. Shady business practices beware, don’t use your card here.

We had a delicious brunch on a Saturday — the place was hopping, but it wasn’t packed like most places are on the weekend. I ordered the Joe’s special with Italian sausage and pancakes, and got a large plate of food that was delicious.

I came here for breakfast at around noon with two college upperclassmen friends/alumni — the omelets are amazing! The atmosphere is also very warm and friendly service. Great place to bring friends for a delicious memory. :)

I found this place when I was called for jury duty at the Hall of Justice(which is a few blocks away). Very friendly and attentive service, good food(I had pasta with meat sauce), and well-priced for the quality provided.

A hidden gem spot that serves good food in the middle of SF! I stopped in here for a quick bite to eat after I was in SF and I am totally happy I did. This really is a diner with some spunk it’s a small little café with about 10 tables have a food bar and TV! It is off the beaten path of tourists, but not unfamiliar to the visitors staying in the neighborhood. Menu is very large and be a little overwhelming but they serve breakfast lunch and dinner. The food specials can be found on the white board as you walk in. Menu is helpfully written up on blackboards all around the preparation area and if you’re in a rush you can also order your food online via their web site before you get to the restaurant, a feature I have not come across before. I had the BLT sandwich with French fries for $ 10 which was really good. Food is quite tasty and the portions are quite substantial… much to my waistline’s regret. But then you don’t have to eat everything on the plate. Very efficient service both by the servers and the kitchen staff. The bathrooms are very clean which is BIG plus was. The server was very nice Well worth supporting this gem of a restaurant if you are in its area.

i’ve been working around this area and I never noticed this place. until one saturday, on my way to another café, I walked past their sign saying breakfast all day. I’m in. the guy who greeted me was very nice. I’ve been here a few times and the servers were all nice to me. food was good too. basic menu, well prepared dishes. I have yet to try other items besides breakfast tho. One thing: coffee isn’t that great. i’m glad this place is here tho

Ordered breakfast since I was working at home, I’ve been coming here for 5 years and have never had a problem. Ordered the Joe’s special, went to pick it up and came home and it was covered in onions, I asked for a reorder. When I walked in the owner badgered me, told me the menu is in English and I told him, «that’s not nice» so I’m posting a picture of the menu item and there is no talk of onions. Fyi, my hash browns are raw on my second order and I asked for extra crispy. They’re not even cooked, I’m putting them in a pan to fry just so I won’t get sick. I’m so astonished how he was, fyi I’m that person who’s been a customer for the last 5 years and you’ve always been nice to me but you just went off on me today for no reason.

Been to this place about 8 times in the last year. most of the time the food was good though overpriced. The service has always been slow though. I went back there only because I thought the food quality was good. I especially like grass fed beef and they serve Niman Ranch there. I’ve had the ground sirloin with eggs and it tasted good like good grass fed should. Today was a whole other ballgame. I asked our waitress if the NY steak was also grass fed and she assured me that it was. She said they get all their meats from Niman Ranch. So I was treating myself after an especially long tiring week. Sunday afternoon brunch. What a huge disappointment. My friend and I both ordered the same thing. When I first started cutting the steak. which I had ordered medium rare… I could barely cut it. it was dry as beef jerky only without the flavor. This supposedly grass fed beef was tough, dry, flavorless. I ate 4 or 5 bites just to see if it would get any better as I progressed. No such luck. My friend also didn’t like his steak although he ate it anyway. Now I know that if you want a real quality steak you should go to a steakhouse. But, at the very least, the steak at a café like Soma Inn, which advertises Niman Ranch, should give you something between a melt in your mouth juicy steak bursting with flavor. and a ½ inch piece of shoe leather! I called the waitress over and told her it was just terrible. All she would say was that I should have told her after my first bite. She didn’t offer me a discount at least or a deal on a future meal. This was the worst steak I believe I’ve ever had. and I’m 58. The infamous owner of this place was there when we arrived, but disappeared shortly after, so we had nobody other than the waitress to complain to and she kept saying she wasn’t authorized to give us a break. I’ve also noticed that there are completely different people working there each time I go. and although I’ve never personally witnessed the shaven head charismatic owner treat his staff the horrible way others have, I don’t doubt their stories for a minute. He’s probably using illegal workers and(who knows what else he’s doing. trafficking?) He probably thinks he’s living the American dream. except that’s not what I stand for, using people as virtual slaves and then being phony and fake to the customers. Acting like you’re environmentally conscious to the public while treating those who work for you like pig shit. Don’t support this place fellow San Francicans. This isn’t what SF always stood for.

Parking is really hard to get. Cute little café. Sit down for a nice breakfast. Get some eggs and toast. It’s just a very good location for this area. In fact it classes up the neighborhood. It’s in between 6th and 7th street. People are really nice.

Joe the owner is not a good boss, I have see him mistreating his employees, yelling and yelling. There is many ways to give orders to people, I am a boss for the last 23 years of my life, I have never scream and yelled to any of my workers… You can tell that the girls that work there today are not happy, every time I got there the waitress are different. Today 7÷26÷2015 was my last visit, will never go again. I do not need to see the verbal abuse on front of my face. Buy Joe!!! Joe is a bully!!!

What a wonderful café! They have a full espresso bar-everything from coffee to Chai, Mocha and Hot Chocolate. Breakfasts are good-omelettes, pancakes, French toast and steak– Lunch-Sandwiches, salads Cheesesteaks, and burgers. Main entrees include-Steak, Chicken, Prawns, Pork chop, Fish and Chips and Pastas! The prices are very reasonable for the quality and deliciousness of the food! The owner is a very welcoming Italian man who welcomes in the regulars and new customers alike with a big smile. A very cozy atmosphere with a clean bathroom, bar or table seating. They also have a decent beer/wine list: offering mimosas, and Lagunitas on tap. I will definitely be back! Also make sure to order the fresh squeezed orange juice, it’s absolutely divine!

I had just gotten into San Francisco, parched and tired, and we went to the nearest little café right around the corner. Lemme tell you, this is the ideal café/diner. They have quite possibly everything you could ever crave on the menu as well as a variety of beverages including alcohol(Stella on tap, always a plus.) What really impressed me was the quality of the service. Joe, the owner, opened right up to us, exchanging stories, anecdotes, jokes, making us feel very welcome. We proceeded to stop by every morning for our daily coffee and pastries before the long day; Joe and his insanely adorable and kind Brazilian staff were always accommodating and jovial. I noticed a multitude of regulars that he all knew by name – you can’t buy that sense of community, you have to earn it and truly appreciate about your customers which the folks at SoMa clearly do. Oh, they also make a mean grilled cheese.

Music from the God-Father playing in the background, then pop’s comes to take my order. This spot is always busy during the lunch rush, so be sure to have some time on your hands. There are two tables outside that can seat up to three people. Nab one and see all the magic pass by on Folsom Street! The service here is friendly and attentive. Those are the positive points about this place. On the opposite spectrum, I can not believe I paid $ 12.00 for a wonder bread BLTA! Although the bread was slightly toasted and the bacon crispy, it was something that I would give a 3 year old for lunch to help with their teething. When I asked for mustard instead of mayonnaise, I guess I should have been more specific and said dijon. That’s my bad. Of course, they could have also asked me what type. Like how I shifted the blame there? The side of cole slaw was soggy and lacking any flavor. Certainly not a traditional southern slaw by any means. I think I will bypass this lunch spot in the future.
