I meant to post this review about a Bayview BBQ trailer, last year. Then I got busy and forgot about it. Sorry! Well, better late than never. Note that I haven’t seen the trailer for awhile. I don’t know if they’re roaming in the South Bay or elsewhere. Or if the chefs got regular restaurant jobs, and no longer work on a trailer. So this review might not be as helpful. Smoke BBQ specializes on Kansas City style BBQ. Besides the KC sauce, that style means that they don’t trim the rib tip or the skirt, so u get more meat on each rib. On my first visit, I got the daily special for $ 14, combo with beef brisket and pork ribs, 2 sides: cheese grits, potato salad, and cornbread. It was a great lunch. Everything was good, except that the cheese grits were a tad lumpy and cold. The menu lists five meat choices(pork spareribs, beef brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and chicken) served as plates($ 10-$ 14) or sandwiches($ 6-$ 8), plus sides(half-pints $ 2.50, pints $ 5), and meat by the pound($ 10-$ 20). The desserts are made by pastry chef Angela Chavez. While I was waiting for my takeout order, a very obedient dog was also waiting patiently for his owner. Normally, Jack Russel dogs are impatient and energetic. Apparently this one was very well trained, and didn’t need a leash. Cash only.

Drove out to Brisbane from SF ocean beach area today when I heard that the Smoke BBQ trailer was going to be out there. I tried their ribs for the first time when they were parked at City College of SF. The ribs were the BEST I ever had! The ribs are tender, juicy and the smoked flavor permeates through the meat to the bone. The ribs had a dry rub on them and the flavor was good enough to eat without their fabulous BBQ sauce! I also had the BBQ beans with the potato salad. I could order a tub of each and just eat those all day long. They didn’t have the ribs today :(so I got the X.O. noodles with chicken. These noodles were so good and the portion was enough for two people. I ordered the noodles with chicken, which had an Asian flair. There were at least 3 different types of mushroom, cilantro, asparagus, sesame seeds with a hint of hoi-sin sauce flavor. They offer the noodles with shrimp or a vegetarian option as well. I also ordered a combo of the brisket and the pulled pork with sides of coleslaw and the beets with goat cheese, to share. The brisket had the same awesome smokiness of the ribs. The corn bread(which was eaten up fast) was soft, fluffy and moist. The beets with goat cheese adds a nice, refreshing change to the palette and a touch of California to the Kansas city BBQ. I look forward to the next time they are around so I can sample their sandwich and dessert.

Finding Kansas City-style BBQ in San Francisco has been impossible until I tried Smoke(by the way, if you are wondering why Kansas City BBQ is so good, book a ticket immediately and try the best BBQ in the world). I tried the brisket and it’s fantastic. Thick, juicy slabs of beef nestled in a adequate bun. Memphis Minnie’s used to be at the top of my list for brisket but no longer. The BBQ sauces are equally as good as the meat. The next time I see the trailer, I will eat there as it’s cheaper than buying a ticket to KC(and KC really isn’t a great place to visit aside from the amazing BBQ).

Went to to Brisbane Marina and had some great BBQ. The tri tip was wondrful and the owners were cool. The trailer was kinda weird but looked clean and the service was above board. Try the BBQ spaggetti it was off the hook– when in town check them out

Why did I pass this trailer up so many time in Brisbane? Obviously I wasn’t thinking. Their brisket was tender and juicy, and I’m patiently waiting for them to start bottling and selling their BBQ sauce. I asked about the BBQ spaghetti and they said they plan on bringing it back soon. Hopefully very soon! Will have to start working out now to conquer that bad boy.

Smoke BBQ has been under my radar for quite some time now but I never had the craving for a big BBQ plate for lunch. That was until I noticed on their Twitter feed that they were selling BBQ Spaghetti. What??? So yeah, BBQ Spaghetti. Yeah, I know it sounds weird, but it was a hungry man’s delight. My friend who used to live in Memphis told me it’s a common dish over there. On their menu, you can pick up the BBQ Spaghetti as a whole plate with two sides and cornbread for $ 8, or you just order a side of it for $ 4. I opted for the BBQ Spaghetti plate with Potato Salad and Creamed Spinach. Check out all this food( ) I definitely got my money’s worth and more! I didn’t ask what was in the BBQ Spaghetti, but it looked like there was Pulled Pork and huge pieces of Beef Brisket inside topped with Cheddar Cheese and Onions. YUM!!! The pieces of Brisket were really tender and the sauce had a nice spicy kick too. The Potato Salad and Crème Spinach were also both good. And the cornbread was nice and moist. It’s a great deal for all that food. However when you’re starving, you tend to get that motivation to finish everything on your plate. It was just too much food to finish in one sitting. I totally dozed off after too. But that’s okay. Next time I’m probably going to have it as a side order. It was plenty enough on it’s own without the side. Overall, though very unusual, I thought it was a tasty experience! You definitely should give it a try! Now that I’m convinced that Smoke BBQ is pretty good, I’ll probably go back to them again to try their sandwiches and other plates as well. I’ll be looking forward to it!

Went to the Brisbane Marina area where several other food trucks were lining up. This one BBQ smell tend to catch my attention. Go up and a friendly lady taking my $ 8 Pull Pork sandwich order=) They had a free sweet tea which you were handed a cup to fill — not bad Now for the Pull Pork sandwich — I was somehow envisioning the meat being shredded but it was dice cube style. Kinda fatty and the sandwich just fell apart — I ended up eating it caveman style(using my hand and smashing my face onto the mess) Overall it was ok but I had better though… probably wouldn’t order that again

4 stars for this BBQ spot on wheels smaller food truck of the group I got to sample there brisket and their pulled pork, I have to say coming from this fairly small truck they do a pretty good job with their BBQ tender and good portion lil dry but because of the portion it was good their sauces offered out of the 3 I think regular BBQ sauce was excellent their North Carolina vinegar was ok, their hot mustard also ok but their regular reddish brown BBQ was on point semi sweet just rite for the pulled pork and brisket the sides were not as great for me the coleslaw was just ok and the potato salad was a tad sour for me food **** price $$ $ 14 bucks for 2 choices of meats and two sides service ***** very friendly

Cash only, is fine for food truck, but now a lot are offering credit options. $ 8 for pulled pork sandwich, on a cheap hamburger bun, but delicious! Get a free cup of one of the 3BBQ sauces is a great bonus, the House was your average BBQ sauce, the mustard had a little kick, the third I didn’t try. My only gripe was the meat was obviously pre-cooked, but it was just room temp, wanted my sandwich to be a bit hot in temp. $ 2.50 for generous amount of potato salad was a decent deal. Was garlicy and thick. Properly chilled and cold so was safe to eat. I would definitely go again, I felt really full and got my money’s worth. would love to try the platter with corn bread next time!

I was a bit disappointed after reading such great reviews on it. I decided to give it a try with their Pulled Pork Sandwich. Ordering was easy, waiting in line wasn’t too bad, but when I got back into my office(across the street), the sandwich was cold. Fortunately we have a microwave in the office kitchen that I used to warm it up. After my first bite the sandwich fell apart. The pork looked to be cut cubed rather than pulled. I would have rather liked my pork to stay inside my sandwich(yes I held it with two hands). Plus the sandwich was the size of a mcdonald’s burger. There was no sauce except for a few pieces of stripped lettuce. For $ 8, I was really expecting more. Sorry but I don’t think I will visit again. I could have went to the downstairs café and had a big full lunch for $ 8…

Found these folk in Noe… they seem to be hanging out there on Sundays: Smoked all dark meat chicken on a simple bun with a dollap of sauce and slaw in the sandwich(a la Memphis style). My new favorite Noe Valley Brunch!

smoke bbq looks like ½ a red trailer. seems they are here daily on davidson in this warehouse-centric, light industrial area. menu: chicken sausage, brisket, ribs, chicken, cake slices sides: baked beans, cheese grits, cole slaw, potato salad, and ? sampling: 2 way combo with 2 sides –pulled pork: very tender, melt in your mouth quality, not a lot of flavor. some fat –beef brisket: very fatty, not melt in mouth qualityy, texture between chewy and tender, –cole slaw: fresh, vinegary –potato salad: fresh, hint of vinegar and. or sourness, crunchy celery corn bread: tender overall: 3.5 stars sides: –sides very generous –friendly, quick service –sauce sweet with dash of vinegar –vinegary aftertaste –wouldn’t go out of my way to come here. would come here if in the area. –some items not available.

Loved their hot link sausage! Found out on their website that they sell it by the pound so I did just that, bought a pound of it for $ 10 and enjoyed it with their potato salad, the perfect pairing. The cheese grits are pretty rockin’ too…

I had the brisket sandwich with a side of cheesy grits = $ 10. The flavor and texture of the brisket are spot on – almost melt in your mouth tender. I liked the cheesy grits with the black pepper touch. I don’t know, however, if I just had pretty fatty slices of the brisket(and I may have gotten nauseated from the excess fat), but I got stomach issues after lunch through the afternoon. =8(

A rainy Sunday. A food truck adventure. This was like the movie Twister for the culinary set. My reward for braving the elements? Juicy, fall off the bone chicken and a side of sweet with a hint of spice BBQ sauce. Five bucks for half a fowl, with enough meat for two meals. Served warm and friendly.

The Smoke BBQSF truck rolled into my workplace in SOMA this week. Being from CA I’m pretty unfamiliar with barbecue, but intrigued. Naturally I had to get the combo just to try as many things as possible. I had the brisket and pork, with potato salad and cheesy grits on the side, served with cornbread, and I had to get a cupcake when I saw that they were red velvet. Brisket: Super good! Nice charred crust outside, tender. Pulled pork: it was okay; seemed to lack that slow-cooked-and-falling-apart quality that I was expecting, but it was good otherwise. Cheesy grits: my first time eating grits, so I don’t know how to judge against other grits, but I thought this was great. Tasted like cheddar-infused polenta. Potato salad: this was my first potato salad ever and I loved it! Corn bread: Eh, okay. I’m not a huge fan of cornbread in the first place. It was fine. Red velvet cupcake: freaking amazing. There is no better red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting out there. Overall, totally great and worth the 30 minutes I spent waiting in the long line in the rain.

Stopped by today while running errands in Noe Valley. They only had the chicken or pulled pork as plate options. I got the chicken plate w/coleslaw + beans and banana cream pie. The chicken was meh… It had a good smoke flavor but it seemed a bit undercooked. Pretty disappointing! Oh well. The coleslaw was good and tasted fresh. The beans were the real deal… absolutely delicious! I could eat a giant bowl of that stuff. All in all, a pretty good meal and value. I really wish they had some sort of hot sauce!

I had the chicken sandwich and it was very soft, moist and topped with some yummy coleslaw with some delicious BBQ sauce! With the potato salad and cornbread(which was also very moist and delicious), it was topnotch. This is the real deal. Can’t wait to go back and try some of that pork and maybe a rib or two. Rumor has it they’ll be in Noe Valley on Sunday and maybe someday in the Embarcadero, so look out for them!

5 stars, all the way. No doubt. I went here last week on the late side of lunch and was able to snatch up the very best bbq I’ve ever tasted. Ever. My mouth waters as I think about the ribs. Oh the ribs! So tender! So juicy! Bone? What bone? I just pulled it out of the meat and chucked it over my shoulder(not really). The meat was juicy and smoky, yet there was a gorgeous bark over the top from the sauce and/or rub creating just the right bite. The cornbread was moist and flavorful. The perfect compliment to the beans which were saucy and had bits of yummy pork in them. Cheese grits to die for. So creamy and cheesy. Perfectly seasoned. Rounded out my meal with a banana custard dessert thingy. The custard was filled with tiny black specks of vanilla bean! These guys are the real deal. I can’t wait to go back. I highly recommend this place. Its totally worth the trek over to Bayview.

I can’t tell you how excited our office was to learn that there’s a little BBQ trailer just around the corner. One coworker went one day, and a few days later, today a bunch of us went over to check it out. As I type, I have some delicious Carolina pulled-pork in my mouth, and it is divine. I think the good folks at Smoke were a titch overwhelmed by the throngs of passionate BBQ-seekers, thrilled with more than Subway or greasy Chinese food for options. I had an order for five things, and it was their busy time. When I returned to the office, I learned that I was short one dish. I called and they knew exactly what I was missing and the guy RANITOVERTOMYOFFICE. Bless him! Don’t expect them to do this– they do NOT deliver. We had a large order(I was one of several from my office), and they did it out of the kindness of their hearts. They also tossed in dessert, for my inconvenience. I think it was less convenient for them, but hey. Great service, thank you so much, Smoke! I think you learned today that you’re gonna have to step up your production a little with all the BBQ fiends in the area. :) Thank you for bringing home-cooked deliciousness to the Bayview.
