This is a funky sauce. It is a huge change up from all the traditional style BBQ sauces. Definitely a new style, but still somehow tied to American barbecue. It can hold its name as a BBQ sauce by being tomato based, and then having the expected BBQ sauce tang from the vinegar. Yet, at the same time, it just has a completely different taste than anything else because of the wine, cocoa and coffee. It almost has a mole sauce taste to it. It is just… strange… All the mixtures of flavors involved… between traditional and untraditional… My first taste, I wasn’t expecting it. I was expecting the title of ‘San Francisco style’ to just be advertising stuff, but then it turned out to be really unusual. I didn’t like that at first, but after knowing what to expect, I can see how it could have its uses. I think it’ll be a good sauce to use every once and awhile when I feel like changin’ up my barbecue.

My quest for Q may have reached its summit. SFQ is amazing! Do you like chocolate, red wine, Hoisen souce, coffee? That’s what these brave alchemists used to create a wonderful sauce with complex notes. And i don’t even like coffee. But it adds a unique smoky finish. The sauce is a little hot and a little sweet, but at just the right amounts. Try it on eggs. Try it on anything!

Ok BBQ fans, take a minute and read this. *Borrowed from «It was July, and the conversation began in the kitchen. John and I were talking BBQ and discussing the fact that San Francisco didn’t have a signature barbecue sauce. That led to a long debate as to what could, should, and would be in a“San Francisco style» barbecue sauce when the first batch of SFQ was created. We ultimately decided it must include three of San Francisco’s favorite things: the finest chocolate, coffee and red wine(in the form of an oak-aged wine vinegar.) Using those ingredients as our inspiration, we took our favorite Kansas City style sauce recipe and added spices from Southeast Asia, China, India, Latin America, and the Mediterranean and created what we think is a great barbecue sauce!“ Are you sold yet? — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — Last night while exploring some really awesome Oakland neighborhoods I ran into Michele in the Rockridge Market Hall, She is the creator of this new and truly unique BBQ sauce. She was handing out samples and I almost made the fatal mistake of passing on the tasting. But I am glad I didn’t! From the very moment the sauce touched my tongue I was in love. This really is an amazing sauce. The combination of ingredients make for something that you probably have never encountered before. My wife commented that it reminded of her mole. But that’s just the beginning. Sure, mole is one of the several flavors that come out, but her sauce is complex and reminded me more of a fine wine, where on the nose you pick up on the chocolate, coffee and the many spices that Michele uses. I started thinking just how versatile this sauce can be and my taste buds immediately started to dance at the thought of how many ways I could use it. Chicken? sure! Ribs? OMG! One jar of this packs endless magical possibilities. This sauce is so amazing that I still cannot believe it’s not only gluten free, but also vegan! It’s all organic and contains no high fructose corn syrup. BUYTHISSAUCETODAY!
