Came here for Lunch, got a reservation on a weekday, but didn’t look like i needed it as the place was almost empty when i came in, but did get busy later. I really enjoyed the food, i had a chicken parm and my wife had a tuna sandwich. The tuna sandwich was pretty awesome and i highly recommend it. The chicken parm was good perfectly breaded and just the right amount of tomato sauce and cheese. lot of places make the mistake of loading it up a lot, but sometime less is more. got fries and salad as sides and the fries are really good, the salad I was just okay with but it was more because of my personal preferences, It had too much dressing for me and the other veggie than arugula, i think radish i just didn’t care for. The service was good, the servers and hosts were all very nice and friendly, the waitress did have to check our order like twice because we did change it a bit. I definitely recommend this place and 30 buks for a really good quality lunch for two is not bad at all, esp in SF. FYI, parking is hard to find at lunch time on a weekday so beware.

I’ve always passed by this place on my way to mr and mrs, magnolia or third rail and assumed it was just another basic-bitch-brunch-spot. Stopped by for dinner last night and discovered one of the best burgers I’ve had in SF so far! Get the burger medium rare and add some point reyes bleu. I didn’t bother with the bacon and it was still phenomenal. The accompanying fries were similar to what you get at Chez, crisp and garnished with housemade aoli plus ketchup. I also ordered the duck duck chicken as a starter, which was a trio of liver mousse, foie pâté with marmalade and salty duck prosciutto with a soft hazelnut-rye bread?(not sure yet it was to die for) Great fore date night and I ‘d consider braving the sunday morning wait after this experience!

I’ve always wanted to go to Serpentine! It’s one of those places I’ve gone by many times but have never had an occasion to go. After a walking tour in a nearby neighborhood, my friend and I headed to the Dogpatch to find food and drink. Serpentine closes between lunch and dinner but we arrived just after 5PM, when they re-open. There was a chair blocking the doorway so we had to ask if we could come in. The hostess was reluctant and didn’t seem to know what was going on. There were still supplies and stuff up on the bar, so even when she finally let us sit there, it still didn’t feel as if we were supposed to be there. But that rocky first impression was quickly erased as we were greeted and served by a delightfully charming bartender. The hostess gave us a happy hour menu but said they weren’t doing happy hour on the weekend, the bartender said it was fine so we’re not sure what the rule actually is. In any event, it means some specialty cocktails are $ 5(instead of $ 11⁄12) but the food is the same price as far as I can tell, it’s just a limited selection. We ordered delicious specialty cocktails; mine was some kind of vodka lemonade with a sprig of rosemary and it was delicious. My friend had a cool cucumber drink with black pepper from the happy hour menu. Super refreshing and yummy. After our first round, I ordered one of hers. We ordered a hamburger and a cheeseburger with salads and side of fries to share, per our bartender’s suggestion. The fries are ridiculously good. Beware! The side salad with the burger is huge so we had plenty of greens with our decadent meal. The local grass-fed burgers were juicy and delicious, though at medium rare there was quite a bit that was rare. Medium might be a better temperature to order in future. Not sure I needed the gruyère for an extra $ 2. You wouldn’t know it from the outside, but Serpentine is bright and airy. The windows are not at ground level; there are sky high ceilings with huge windows high up that fill the place with light while giving it the feel of a secluded spot. It reminds me of Nopa on Divisadero but without the crazy crowd. It was filled with bar patrons by the time we left, and was starting to get busy for dinner as well. Not cheap but worth it and I’ll definitely be back!

A solid brunch spot. Never a bad wait. You can also make reservations as well. The food is okay. Nothing spectacular, nothing really stands out and maybe that is why the wait isn’t long. I do like their **REDFLANNELHASH, beef brisket, crispy potatoes, roasted beets, arugula horseradish créme fraiche, poached eggs with grilled levain. The beef brisket was very tender and soft. Good flavor. But everything else was just okay. Maybe if they have a special, something amazing, they will be a more popular brunch spot.

It’s a beautiful venue… sort of industrial chic. And I liked the waitstaff; they were very professional. And I also liked my lunch(burger/fries) and kid liked hers(ceasar salad with steak.) But, I didn’t love the food enough to compensate for the costly bill. Lunch was $ 50 for two with drinks(sodas.) For that kind of money, I want to be wowed.

First Date #4 of the weekend — We were trying to get into the new hotspot, Aina, but quickly learned that we were out of luck without a reservation. A quick Unilocal search led us to Serpetine. It wouldn’t have been my top choice but we were only a block away and decided to take a chance on it. We were seated after waiting only about 5 minutes. By then, I was practically ready to pass out from hunger. We strategized over the menu and agreed to share the Red Flannel Hash and Country Fried Steak & Eggs. The food came out relatively quickly and I started with the Country Fried Steak while he started with the Red Flannel Hash. We had agreed to each eat half of the plate and then switch. I was enjoying the tender Country Fried Steak and the crispy potatoes that accompanied the dish were surprisingly flavorful. When it was time to switch, I realized that he hadn’t said much about the Red Flannel Hash. Then I took a bite and I realized that I had just traded away the better dish. If it wasn’t a first date, I would’ve pulled the plate back and said«sorry!» Despite the hype around the Red Flannel Hash, it’s just not very good. The beef brisket, which was arguably the most important component of the dish, was tough and bland. The beets did not go well with the meat. Despite the slight disappointment with Red Flannel Hash, I was pleased with the experience. There are certainly hidden gems in the Dogpatch and I’m going to make a point to try to explore them more.

TL;DR: Decent brunch food, miserable service if you don’t have a reservation This is my second time at Serpentine, but my experience was so bad that I had to write a review. Called on the phone at 11AM on a Sunday morning, and they told us the wait would be ~30 mins if we walked in for a party of 3(reservations are not allowed less than 2 hours prior) so we decided to go. They wouldn’t put our name down on the waiting list, fine. Get there at 11:45AM, and suddenly the wait jumps to 1 hour. Fine, slightly annoying, but we did get there 45 mins later, and there were 2 parties ahead of us in the line, plus they had their reservation system. We sat at the chairs in the entrance of the restaurant, waiting for a seat. 40 minutes or so pass by, and it looks like we’re gonna be here for a while. They said some seats opened up at the bar, so we could take those if we wanted. We decided to do that because we wanted to eat(can’t brunch ever be no-nonsense and simple?). Sat down, ordered our food, and we start to eat. By now it’s passed the typical rush hour for Sunday brunch and the restaurant starts to die down. There are a few tables that open up, so I asked the waiter if we could switch to a table instead of sitting at the bar. She informed me that«we usually do not do that» and that«they might have reservations, but they could check for me if they were free». It’s almost 1:30PM, there are 2 – 3 tables that have been empty for some time now, why you gotta be like that? Are your tables really so precious? What do you mean you don’t «do that?» Is my request really so ridiculous? Anyways, after she talked to the hostess, we were informed that those tables were reserved and they couldn’t do anything to accommodate us. Ok, honestly, if that’s the case, fine. But what drives me crazy is that when we left around 2:30, those tables were still empty. There were multiple tables that were unused, and even though I asked politely to sit at a table, they don’t «do that». I guess they don’t «do» half-decent customer service. I feel like this was my biggest gripe — their table management and asinine reservation system. Suggestions: If you’re gonna have a reservation system, let people reserve closer to the time, or just get rid of it completely for brunch. Leaving tables empty for the sake of accommodating people that don’t make their reservations during one of the busiest time of the week makes little sense to me. Food was alright. Customer service was off-putting. All service people look so goddamn unhappy, I think small mannerisms built up my frustration. This was just the biggest gripe I had.

Faced with an hour-plus wait at another local SF spot, we called over to Serpentine and found that they had not even opened yet! A short drive later, we managed to be 4th in line, guaranteeing us an opening table! On a Sunday morning in San Francisco, opening late is actually a plus. Once inside, we were greeted with a lovely ambiance followed quickly by solid bloody marys. The three of us split the polenta, the red flannel hash, and the buckwheat pancakes. All were excellent, although we got way too much food(maybe the short stack, next time?) and the red flannel hash was really the stand-out.

I went to Serpentine for dinner about a year ago and liked it. So when the line at Plow was 1.5−2 hours long, brunch here sounded like a fine alternative. We arrived, a party of four, around noon and were seated in a few minutes at a cute little half booth. The menu looked incredible. Everything was going well so far. But when the food came, it really didn’t live up to what we(my boyfriend and I) were expecting. We had agreed to go halfsies on our brunch, and I felt bad in doing so, because… Maryland blue crab Benedict(two poached eggs — hollandaise sauce — spinach — fried lemon — fines herbes — buttermilk biscuit — crispy potatoes), my order, was dry and too fishy, the bread was oddly cake-like in texture, there was not much hollandaise, and despite the fried lemon on top being fried well, all the flavors together didn’t make for a good dish. The potatoes on the side were over salted and not crispy enough, and the greens with fennel on the side were fine and surprisingly not overdressed. I’ve had much better crab benedicts, and I didn’t want to even finish mine. Not making any assumptions — I noticed the woman next to us had ordered this same dish and barely touched hers.
Huevos rancheros) two eggs — spiced black beans — cilantro — avocado — hen of the woods mushrooms — sour cream — queso fresco — ranchero sauce — corn tortillas) were also not very flavorful or good. They were, however, better than the benedict, but only by a hair. The flavor was fresher and brighter somehow than the benedict. The tortillas were pleasantly crispy but sadly it was brought down by the bland sauce. The side of bacon we ordered was limp and not crispy. The service was fine; it was just unfortunate that neither dish we ordered was delicious or satisfying. It just felt like a lump of unnecessary calories in my stomach, taking up room that could have been used by Mr. and Miscellaneous ice cream(located just across the street).

Popular brunch spot, but I came out here for dinner. A friend I wanted to meet up with came up for dinner in the City and wanted to meet somewhere along the caltrain line. I ordered the short ribs and lemonade(since I’m on a L-B-S reduction plan). The short ribs were amazingly tender and so delicious. It was slightly fatty though which made me kind of disappointed. Lemonade was average, but pretty good as well. Not sure if we got free refills or not, but hopefully they do that. We split the lemon cake and that was also pretty good. Nice fluffy and moist cake — definitely what I look for in a cake. Will have to try the brunch too! Not amazing, but not bad either. Protip: get the short ribs. SOGOOD.

Serpentine is great when you want Saturday morning without all the hype and fuss that usually accompanies brunch on a San Francisco weekend. My friends and I had a reservation for 11:30, which we were late for by about 10 minutes. Despite that, we were seated immediately. The restaurant itself has a pretty chill atmosphere. It’s relatively small, but doesn’t feel cramped because of high ceilings and lots of natural light. There’s also an extensive bar, if you guys want to get a little buzzed to start your day off right. Our server paid just the right amount of attention: she came by often enough to make sure the food was okay and that our waters were full, but didn’t come by so often that she would interrupt conversation. The food was pretty good; the part of my meal I enjoyed most was surprisingly the potatoes. Usually I’m kind of «meh» when it comes to potatoes, but these were delightfully crispy on the outside but soft potato-ey goodness inside. They were well seasoned as well. Portion sizes were fairly large, with no one in our party able to completely clean their plates. I got the crab cake benedict, which I did not really taste the crab cake for unfortunately. However, I did enjoy the cornbread and the eggs were done perfectly. Parking in this area is not too bad. If you go a block over from 3rd, you should find lots of(FREE) parking, quite the rarity in San Francisco these days. Another plus of Serpentine’s location is it’s proximity to Mr. & Mrs. Miscellaneous. Ice cream is another great way to start your weekend off right!

Cute dogpatch brunch spot — pretty lowkey. Inside looks like an old warehouse, but they decorated it quite nicely. The name of the restaurant makes this place sound super gloomy, but it is actually quite bright and hipster inside. It is best to make reservations beforehand bc they can get pretty busy on the weekends. We ordered Winter greens and Maryland blue crab benedict. 5* for the presentation. The salad not only tasted refreshing but looked amazing. The radishes were beautiful and added a splash of color to the greens. It also complemented the benedict dish, as it was a little heavier and creamier. The side of greens was a great balance to the fried potatoes. Even after eating a full meal, I luckily had enough space for dessert at Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous. Also, the employees here were very pleasant and attentive. Would definitely come again. If you plan to drive to this area, there’s always parking(unless there is an event at pier 70)!

Ssssssss… When hearing about serpentine, I thought it would look like the chamber of secrets and be Harry Potter related and the bartenders would speak parseltongue to customers, but when I actually ate here, it was none of that and I still had an amazing experience!!! First things first, the ambiance and just overall architecture at Serpentine is divine! Yes I wish it was huger but the stone walls, modern paintings, natural lighting — just make it a perfect place to have a chill and relaxing weekend brunch! In terms of food and drinks, their bloody Mary’s are not too spicy and pack a good punch, and their pimms cup and Monica’s shrine were very light and complimentary to their somewhat heavy dishes! For starters, the Brussels sprouts are seasoned perfectly and are a great side. For main dishes a friend and I split the red flannel hash and Maryland blue crab Benedict! If you don’t like beets, you won’t like the red flannel, and the crab Benedict is a little heavy on the bread, but both eggs in the dishes were done with perfection!!! I personally hope to try their burgers in the future, but this brunch went beyond my expectations and can’t wait to come back again!

Their brussels sprouts are to die for!!! I absolutely love brussels sprouts and these were cooked perfectly! They were crispy and buttery at the same time! I’m not sure how healthy they still were considering how much oil was probably used but they made the meal. The burger was quite good and the dijon mustard was tangy. Nothing to rave about, but it was good sized. My friend ordered the mushroom pasta which was also tasty and filling and a great option for vegetarians. It was nicely flavored and perfectly al dente. Lighting and ambiance was quite dim and romantic like most places in this area during the evening. Its one of the less crowded places to eat on a Saturday evening and there were quite a few empty tables around us. They also have a full bar with any cocktail you can imagine!

Wow! Serpentine was an amazing find in the Dogpatch area. I first came across them after trying out Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous across the street, and decided to stop by for brunch the next time I was in the area. I was really happy I made a reservation, as the place was nicely packed soon after they opened. Portion sizes are quite hefty given a lot of the SF brunch spots I’ve dined at(although also reflected by the price). Well worth it, in my opinion! I ordered the Red Flannel Hash, while my girlfriend got the buckwheat pancakes(x2, although she soon learned it was a lot). The beef brisket was really delicious, and amusingly dyed by the roasted beets. Lots of greens and potato, creating a very hearty dish for a jam packed day of exploring the city! The buckwheat pancakes were humongous, and having two was definitely enough for more than one person. Nice and fluffy and not too dense. I’d love to come back for more!

FOOD: Fan of their burger, high quality beef, can add bacon, arugula adds a nice bitterness, comes with fries. Fan of their pork chop entrée reminds me of thanksgiving dinner very tasty and comforting. Fan of their cookie sandwich ice cream wow! Like an upscale way better pazookie from BJ ‘s restaurant. Love the caramel and even though it was salted it was a good balance. Ice cream is from next door so good to support local businesses. INSIDE: is a darker ambience. Kinda dive upscale modern industrial feel with a bar and seating area. Cute for a date or small group of friends. Bathroom was nice. RESERVE: reserve your table ahead of time! It’s that kind of place. Server took a while to get to us at first but after that things seemed fine as far as service.

This is what all brunches should strive to be like. Serpentine, you got it right. And it’s less than a 10 minute drive from my bf’s place. I wish I had discovered you earlier. Buckwheat Pancakes: what?! I can have pancakes at brunch that aren’t completely buttered and unhealthy– yes, please! These are topped with pomegranate, bananas, and apple slices as well as candied walnuts. They taste healthy, but I say that in the most delicious way possible. Not in a bland, overly oat-y way at all. I’ll take an order of these. every Sunday. thanks. Red Flannel Hash: big chunks of tender beef brisket with beets, potatoes, and arugula and topped with poached eggs. This was probably the most filling entrée we ordered. That beef brisket, though, so good. Dungeness Crab Benedict: The crab wasn’t as prominent as I would’ve liked. This was my least favorite dish we had at brunch since I’ve had better benedicts. Thankfully, the pancakes and hash out shined the benedict. Why the one star deduction? Some might think this is petty, but other egg lovers will understand. The poached egg on the benedict and on the hash were not runny! Overcooked poached egg?! How am I supposed to snapchat #eggporn?!(kidding… kinda. not really) The space is modern and clean. Service is friendly and efficient. We came after the brunch rush around 12 pm and had a pretty short wait for a table. Again, you got it right, Serpentine. See you again soon.

Took my boyfriend here for Sunday brunch on his birthday and had a great experience! I HIGHLY recommend the Maryland Blue Crab Benedict($ 17) and Red Flannel Hash($ 16). The eggs in both dishes were perfectly poached, and the potatoes were perfectly crispy and seasoned. Portions were surprisingly generous, and they’re both really flavorful, unique, and tasty dishes. Almost everyone sitting around us ordered these dishes too, and the popularity is well-deserved! Side note: I’m not usually a huge fan of beets, but the roasted beets in the Red Flannel Hash were so well-cooked and paired perfectly with the brisket. Serpentine has made me a believer in beets! My boyfriend and I also shared a buckwheat pancake on top of our two entrees(yeah…we eat a lot ^_^;;), which was also delicious. It was topped with apple, banana, pomegranate seeds, candied walnuts, and homemade whipped cream, and served with a side of maple syrup. All of the toppings came together in a tasty way and wasn’t overwhelming. Service was also great! The servers were attentive and very accommodating. They brought out the pancake with a candle lit for my boyfriend(I left a note that we were celebrating a birthday when I made the reservation through Open Table) and took a photo for us. Overall, great service & amazing food!

This reservation is for brunch, which was just ok. The pros are: reservations are easy to get, open table! And it’s in my neighboorhood. The cons are: nothing spectacular and the extra sausage that I added to my egg sandwich was dry dry dry and $ 4 extra. Overall the experience was ok, the ambiance was very cold and for a brunch crowd, it was very quiet. Service was good and I’ve heard good things about the dinner, so I might have to come back and give that a try.

The space is beautiful and the service was excellent, but the dinner selections left something to be desired. We had an early reservation, so we ended up eating at the bar instead of our table in order to feel a bit less weird about our early bird-style dinner… The space is sort of industrial with a feminine edge, if that makes sense. Importantly, they have tons of large windows, so it’s very sunny and inviting. I just felt happy being here. The two guys working the bar were great — really friendly, conversational, made good suggestions, etc. I had what I assume was a new cocktail because it’s not on their online menu — they replaced the tequila with mezcal, which I thought was nice. For appetizers, we had the Marinated Gaeta and Castelvetrano Olives and the Assortment of Pickled Vegetables. I liked this both as starters — they were flavorful but still light and fresh. They had some cool, funky veggies in the pickled vegetables dish, though the little pickled heirloom tomatoes were definitely my favorite. We also had the Pan Seared Petaluma Chicken Livers which I was NOT into. I think if you’re going to serve whole livers they need to be a bit more deeply fried. I also didn’t really like the sauce — it had some good seasoning but it also tasted a little burnt. For dinner, I tried BOTH the Potato Gnocchi with Eggplant Caponata and the Guajillo Pepper Farfalle with added shaved summer truffles. I did not like the gnocchi at all — which made me very, very sad. The gnocchi themselves were very mealy — either they were over-kneaded or overcooked — and the sauce had WAY too little seasoning. I mean, it absolutely needed at least more salt. I actually told them this(only because they asked me for my thoughts), and I thought it was kind of weird that they didn’t take it off my bill(I didn’t eat it, either). My boyfriend agreed on both counts. He went with the burger(with added Gruyère cheese) and the Grilled Brentwood Corn for his dinner — he liked the burger and said the bun was on point(I thought it was cool that they added so many pickled vegetables to the burger, but that wasn’t his jam…) and he seemed OK with the corn. I think I would go back here and give them another shot because I enjoyed the experience and I liked the space, but I would probably try brunch next time…

I knew we wouldn’t have a lot of time to wait around for brunch before having to catch a flight back to LA, so I looked for a place with available reservations. Serpentine popped up and seemed like a good option. We brought our luggage with us and were seated where we could easily stash it all without getting in anyone’s way. The space filled pretty quickly shortly after opening… always a good sign. However, my friend and I split the COUNTRYFRIEDSTEAK&EGGS and the POLENTA&EGGS and, overall, we found the food to be surprisingly bland. We didn’t eat very much and didn’t take any with us. How sad to leave SF on such a disappointing note!
