Found this place at the Ferry Building Farmers’ Market and absolutely loved it! I thought my open faced veggie sandwich was well worth $ 8 and I didn’t think it was over priced. The normal spread they use for the acme bread is cream cheese and when I asked for an order without it there was no offer of something else except for avocado for a steep up charge. The Market salad was just okay, I probably wouldn’t order it again, but the iced tea was delicious! I wish I had more tea and less ice for $ 3. The presentations were beautiful, the service was great, and the food tasted good.

This would be 4 stars if I actually got some lox/tuna on my open faced sammie. You will walk up to the booth and be dazzled by the beautiful display of their three offerings. You then throw down $ 10, get settled and begin to eat your open faced creation and realize that there are only a few paper thin slices of smoked fish underneath all the radishes, capers, tomatoes, onions and walnuts. The fish is sliced so thin that it is translucent and you can see the cream cheese below. It’s good. I enjoyed my sandwich and almost felt virtuous because it didn’t even come close to making a dent in my appetite. But I would rather starve than part ways with $ 10 for that San Francisco style snack again. On to the next booth!!!

It’s pretty hard to justify $ 12 for some shavings of salmon, cream cheese spread, and two slices of sourdough. There’s no doubt that the«sandwich»(portion size reminds me more of bruschetta…) was pretty darn good, but it definitely was not tasty or filling enough to warrant its price. Better yet, just buy the smoked salmon on its own and appreciate the taste/flavor by itself.

Had the San Francisco lox sandwich which was a piece of Acme bread topped with cream cheese, smoked salmon, picked red onions, heirloom tomatoes and salt. This was my first time trying a lox sandwich so I don’t have anything to compare it to. It was pretty good, but I wasn’t blown away. I’d try their other sandwiches. I mean it’s hard to go wrong with bread, cream cheese and smoked salmon.

Went to the farmers market and stumbled upon this stand. The lox sandwiches are honestly the best I’ve ever had. The open faced sandwiches are so pretty on top of being delicious themselves! My friend I got the black pepper and garlic salmon(shredded salmon) and cold smoked sliced sturgeon respectively. The cream cheese was just the perfect amount, unlike most of my experience with lox sandwiches where the cream cheese overpowers the salmon; The lemon and capers add the perfect tartness to the whole sandwich. We were both very satisfied with our food. There was a bit of alone but it moved relatively fast.

This is the best place to eat lunch at the farmers market! Their sandwiches are made on Acme bread. The salmon lox has cream cheese and tomatoes.(I liked the lemon and caper one better bit they don’t offer it anymore.) On Thursdays you can buy a ½ sandwich for $ 5. It’s big enough to make me full. Especially when I go into the Ferry Building for a treat. Have yet to try their beet salad but it looks good! Lox of Love, AnneMarie

Ordered the San Francisco lox plate for $ 10. The lox was already salty but adding the capers on top was worse. I don’t think I would order it again or tried the other plates they have. It was rather pricy for the very thin layer of lox.

I love going to the Ferry Plaza on the weekend with all of the various food and produce. I always like to try something different to eat and this time I got a lox sandwich and thought it was really good. The one I got had cream cheese, lox, lemon, onion and capers on it. It was a little expensive and not that filling but tasted good nonetheless.

It’s always tricky to rate a food stand at a farmers market. You almost have to eliminate ambiance and to a certain extent the staff since it’s all about quick and easy. Unless of course it’s popular then you have to deal with lines. But that usually has nothing to do with the service just the demand. At any rate the two things I look for is obviously taste and value. Taste wise this is one of the best if not the best lox sandwich I’ve ever had. I like the open face serving on sliced bread though I would have liked a bagel option as well. Maybe they had other bread options I just didn’t read it I guess because the menu board is a bit convoluted. If they did it would have been nice to have been offered. Regardless the food is great and the service was quick and easy. Like some other reviews I’m reading it is quite pricey. 12 bucks is just high to me for what you get. Maybe if there was a side or they threw in the iced tea it would have been right for value. Aside from that I’d go back for sure when I get a lox sandwich craving again.

We stumbled across their booth at the farmers market at the Ferry Building, and decided to give it a try, seeing that everyone around had a plate. I ordered the Albacore Tuna sandwich. I love the how they make their sandwiches open faced… less bread to «dilute» the fresh ingredients flavors. The albacore combined with the subtly sweet yellow beets and the crunch of the walnuts really sets this off. Now I see why people all around had a plate of this. Be prepared to wait a while if there is a long line.

Fresh ingredients. The tuna lox or the san francisco lox sandwich are great choices. If I feel like something healthy for breakfast this is a definite goto however with the price around $ 10 I think I’ll only make this a special occasion breakfast spot.

Best tuna lox ever! Amazing. Open face sandwich method is genius bc the less bread, the more you taste all the fresh ingredients. The reason I am not giving this place a full out 5 stars is bc I tried the regular lox sandwich, most popular they said, and didn’t like it much. Too fishy & salty. Stick to the tuna lox, especially if you’ve never had tuna lox before. Pure heaven in your mouth! It’s a bit steep in price but so good and can be cut in half if you’re willing to share which I thought I was until I took a bite. All Mine!!!

Meeeehhh. Just mehhh. It’s fresh, but then again, it’s the frickin’ farmers’ market. For $ 10, I was expecting more lox, more vegetables, and I even got two of the bigger pieces of bread! When they cut from a loaf, there’s bound to be inconsistencies, but they should try to control for that. Some people behind me got even tinier sandwiches. I got their regular lox sandwich with onions and tomatoes. Nothing special. Could’ve made it myself for a fraction of the price.

Major YUM. $ 10 for an open face lox sandwich with cream cheese, red onions, lox, heirloom tomatoes and a pinch of lavender salt. YUM! This is one of my favorite things to eat at the Ferry Building. And they make them pretty fast.

Delicious! I tried the regular lox and white salmon lox(don’t expect your fish to be white: P), and they were on perfectly toasted flatbread with not too much cream cheese. Capers and toppings(like fennel) were very fresh as well. The prices were high though for what you were getting, as other reviewers had mentioned. It’s a nice, refreshing snack though if you are at the market. Their specialty tea was flavorless – I’d avoid this and grab a drink at another stand. They didn’t tell us where to pick up the tea and didn’t hand it to us, so that was a little confusing.

The San Francisco Lox… So fresh, so delicious, so perfectly presented. I just wish the prices weren’t so steep for the smoked fish… I would’ve loved to taken some home with me! AND the tea. That desert-whatever Iced Tea was«special». just as the lady said it was.

I had the flaky albacore tuna sandwich here. It was good but it wasn’t very substantial especially for $ 10. I was not full after this brunch. The sandwich came with a watermelon jam that I couldn’t taste and some nice arugula and onions etc. Also, they sell smoked fish here but it is super expensive. As in $ 50 – 90 for a pack. I have had smoked fish from other places and I have never seen prices like that!

$ 12 for a sandwich is kind of steep, I must say. Although, I suppose I shouldn’t expect cheap prices at a farmer’s market. Anyhow, the sandwich was pretty good. Open face Acme sourdough(I think) with cream cheese smeared on top with sturgeon slice(not very much, I have to say) and red onions/capers and some lemon. Not that wowed but it was not bad.

* $ 5 cup of gazpacho — Pretty good. * $ 12 smoked sturgeon sandwich on Acme sourdough with cream cheese, capers, lemon, pickled red onion — The sturgeon was soft and slightly buttery. Other fish choices include albacore and various types of smoked salmon. The sandwiches all come on Acme sourdough with cream cheese and some combination of capers, lemon, pickled red onion, tomatoes, and pickled beets. They range from $ 10 – 12. Not cheap but still average for the Ferry Building. Lines here tend to be shorter than at other stands, and the cold sandwiches are a good sunny day option.

What the world needs now, Is lox, good lox, It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of. What the world needs now, Is lox, good lox, No, not just for some but for everyone. Lord, we don’t need another shmendrik, There are shmendriks and shlimiels enough to shmooze, There are shikses and yentes enough to kvetch, Enough to kvetch ’til the end of time. Sometimes I just need a little nosh when I feel like life is giving me bupkes. There’s enough mishegas in my life, you should pardon the expression. So I was strolling with several goys at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market when I was plotzing over the long line at Primavera. I thought I was gonna have a stroke until we saw the sample sandwiches on a cutting board at San Francisco Lox. Oy veh… is it gonna hurt me to try one? I ordered the $ 10 Albacore Tuna Lox sandwich, which came open-faced on a huge slice of sourdough. It was cut into three wedges each topped with a shmear of cream cheese, a slice of golden beets, some pickled red onions and a sprinkle of toasted walnuts(see photo). It was delish though I was still feeling peckish afterward, so I couldn’t help but order a piping hot cup of Butternut Squash Soup for $ 5(see photo). No longer was I feeling shpilkes in my genecktageesoink. God help me, I should’ve just applied the lox to my butt because it’ll end up there anyway. In the meantime, you should know that… What the world needs now, Is lox, good lox, It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of. What the world needs now, Is lox, sweet lox, No, not just for some but for everyone… And here’s that blonde shikse Jackie DeShannon’s classic version of the Burt Bacharach chestnut… an angel’s voice to God’s ear, you should pardon the expression… FOOD — 4 stars… lox on sourdough… it came out of a package, but I shouldn’t judge AMBIANCE — 4 stars… a beautiful day at the Ferry Building is a treasure to savor SERVICE — 3 stars… they tear the package open with aplomb TOTAL — 4 stars… when you need a nosh and you can’t wait for Mexican
