7÷12÷12 = RIP Red Wings! Where did you go… Another hole in the wall i can be spotted in! I love the food here. My friends and i have eaten our way through a lot of their menu with a lot of gusto! Manul chicken, tong chicken and the wings are a good choice for us with the k-pop and others coming up behind. The chicken in the dul bak came out tender and was a weird but yummy mix into our table. And there is always room for sweet potatoes chips and spicy-as-hell duk bok ki. Come here with at least 4 and order halves of the chicken orders and you can experience more of their menu. Menu isn’t extensive but after going a few times we know what we want!

Went here accidentally at around 12:30am because I told my coworker I was craving some chicken wings. Chicken wings at midnight on a random weekday. Where in the hell am I supposed to get those? My first instinct was to, of course, Unilocal whichever places were open at that time. A couple were, but for some strange reason, me and my coworker found ourselves standing on Geary, in front of Red Wings. The experience begins. We step in and a huge bell rings annoyingly loud throughout the place. We occupied a table in the corner and stared at the menu for the longest time. I couldn’t decide what to get and again resorted to Unilocal reviews as well as Foursquare tips. We finally ordered the Manul Chicken(aka #1) and Yani Chicken(aka #2). The wait for our food was kinda long. Around 10 – 15 minutes. By this time, I was going crazy with my cravings but at long last, our chicken was served in a big platter(we both got half servings). First bite: OMG. So good. So crispy and flavorful! YUM! My coworker didn’t like what she got(Yani) because according to her, it was too spicy. What. It was perfect. We ended up switching because I loved the spicyness. Manul chicken was awesome as well, but not as awesome as Yani. The sauce was sticky and so good. I’m sold. Sorry, OBW, I’ve found my new love! PS: Went here again and tried K-Pop and K-Jun chicken — they both tasted the same o. O no difference at all. Stick to Manul and Yani! :)

I pass by here a lot and on a whim came here for some«dinner» with two of my good friends on a Tuesday night. A banner with red on black banner that said«Red Wings», I knew this place would have a very chillax atmosphere. This is definitely a place for friends to hang, drink, and have snack food, not a full on meal. We had the combo yani chicken and the k-jun(I saw whatchu did thar) chicken with yogurt soju and green apple soju. They’ll be more than welcome to switch some of the items out on combo if you don’t like it, about 1 – 3 bucks extra. The prices are pretty damn high for just fried chicken. About 8 bucks for a half ordered and 16 for a full order. However, they were super good. The yani is sweet and not too spicy. The K-jun was pretty spicy. Its a kind of pepper spicy where you can taste the granules of spice when you eat it. Its good though. They came with a chiffonade of cabbage with light thousand island-ish dressing and pickled radish side dishes. For people who expect spectacular service from Asians… please lol;; They seat, take your order, and let you eat so be expected to call them often if you need something because they won’t come over ever hahaha. Its probably because they don’t want to bother you! The only cons were the high prices for Korean street food and the weird bathroom-y smell this place has. Oh! The soju cocktails are definitely worth your money, a lot stronger than those from The Garage/Toyose on Noriega.

Red Wing for the WIN! Sister restaurant is OB Chicken in Oakland. Awesome place to kick back and relax with good company in a casual setting. Order up your choice of flavored chicken + soju and let the good times begin! Then, order garlic fries and maybe a spicy stew to coat your innards for even more soju and drinking. Finally, order a pitcher of beer to balance the soju and you may get lucky with some crunchy sweet potato fries seasoned with sugar! YUM There’s always parking around here, which is really nice. Carlos is my BOY tell him I sent you and I said Hi. Although I’ll probably be back real soon. GETLOUD!

Red Wings gives you Bull(y)! Bully bully? Porky porky? Stayed away from these menu items although I’m sure they’re as edible as any other Korean food establishment in SF(tasty but not mind blowing). Great for: — Therapy — soju! beer! — Wallet — «combos» that can feed 3 – 4 girls at $ 26.99! — Garlic Fries! — extra crisp fritters clearly doused with some tasty TLC — Low key great times! — Excellent, very friendly service, chill ambiance Ok for: — Fried chicken — hot and delicious Hint: — Next door Sunny Market convenience store great for late night ice cream and candy selections! Open till at least 2am!

It’s good for what it is. The question is… do you know what it is? But by the name of it, you should already have a good idea. This isn’t where you get your bulgogi or tofu soup, or special korean cuisine. It’s where you have that craving for crispy saucy fried chicken bonchon with a nice cold OB Lite. And then anything more than that, like the saucy rice cakes and small plates of pickled veggies and so are just nice additions. Now I know sf amongst its rich flavor of culture and cuisine doesn’t have the best bonchon like the likes of those in NYC, LA, SJ, but for a start, its good. You can perhaps put them on the same table with Playground, Sun To Bul Yi, and some other korean joints, but it doesn’t stand out from them. And when it comes to fried asian chicken anything, there’s that extra dose of MSG to make sure you get hooked like a fiend on that spicy sweet tender flavor. And for a reasonable price, a meal for two can easily consist of a bunch of their small dishes of kim chi, tofu, and other means to compliment the Yani fried chicken(decent, not great) and spicy sauce rice cake dish(also decent, not great). AND with leftovers to go. Add an OB Lite, and the late night meal is alllllll g.

Have not enjoyed some wings in the longest time. These wings stole the show. Fantastic! I was not expecting all that much but. whooaaaa soooo good! Tried the Manul and Yanul, both amazing. Must get both. Wash down with a Hite and watch football, makes Monday much more bearable. Plus open till 2 am! yay. Thank you Koreans!

It was my first time trying this place but I’ve heard of Red Wings and its delicious Korean-styled chickens(I’ve been dying for Yang Neom Chicken since I came back from my last trip to Korea!). Food came really fast and I wasn’t disappointed by the taste of the food :) VERY crispy and not too spicy. The Korean boss is hilarious. When I saw the food come out so early and commented in surprise, «Woah, the food’s here already?» He smirked and asked if he should bring it back in and come back out in 10 minutes or so. Funny. *there are special combination dishes on the last page of menu, but you can not change the type of chickens you get for the deal. I had: Gan Jang Garlic Fried Chicken ½ order Spicy Yang Neom Chicken ½ order Cheese Ddukbokki …with a pitcher of hite. Haha! This is the place to go for a nice chicken & beer night with a couple of friends!

I think the wings were good, u pay about $ 15, but you get a hearty amount and they were meaty and tasty.

I came here on an empty random weeknight. Surprised there were no other patrons there at the time. The service is excellent here, but I attribute the 3 stars to the meal I ordered — non-fried chicken. They give you a lot of chicken, but there’s too much meat. Mounds of it. The udon noodles were pretty solid. I tried the fried chicken wings once as leftovers and it wasn’t bad. I guess if this place was more crowded, I would like it more.

Interesting concept. A Korean fried chicken place. We came here specifically for their chicken wings. A few of my local friends brought me here for dinner. We had soju, beer, thinly sliced sweet potato chips, an order of clam soup with winter melon mixed inside, and chicken wings. The soju and Hite beer, I’m sure most of you already know how it tastes. So, no need to get into detail about the alcohol. However, I was looking for that Chiu-Hi soju drink whom my friend keeps mentioning about. It’s a Japanese originated soju that only has about 8% alcohol with a fruity twist. I really wanted to try it.. :D The soup was okay. I ate a few of the clams in it, and had one piece of winter melon. It tasted kinda bland. the thin sweet potato chips was great! I barely ate a few pieces since it was consumed quicker than the wings! It was lightly salted and basically tasted like a bag of warm Lays potato chips. We had three order of chicken wings. One was the Yani Chicken(fried chicken with a sweet and spicy sauce) which was quite tasty with a kick of spice to make it hot. The second was the Manul Chicken(fried chicken with soy sauce and garlic) which was just okay. I didn’t really care about the soy sauce, but was more into trying the garlic. But it’s worth a try when you go. The third order was the K-jun Chicken(fried chicken with Korean style cajun seasoning) which I thought was the best out of the three orders. It’s a crispy chicken that had a cajun flavor kick in it. Much better than the KFC crispy chicken. What won me over was that each piece of the chicken was boneless! That rocks! You cannot even compare this to the yucky chicken nuggets. The place was dark which I can barely see the menu. I saw only one LCD inside hung above the cash register. I think it’s more of a place which caters to locals. A tourist probably will not find this restaurant unless somebody tells them. This restaurant was clean from my observation. The waitress was courteous and made sure everything was okay. I would definitely come back whenever I’m back up in the Bay Area! I had no complaints about anything other than our rocking table which was quickly corrected.

Came here during my Bday weekend to have some good eats with my flavored soju! We ordered a large green apple soju — pretty tasty but not the best I’ve had — and the potato chips and friend chicken. Our favorite chicken was the«Manul» chicken which was so tasty, after we finished our first plate of it we ordered another! The soy sauce garlic chicken wasn’t as good as the Manul Chicken! Service was great because we were there during an awkward day of the week at midnight so we were the only table in the restaurant. Cheesy Corn thing seems interesting so I’ll probably be back to try it sometime!

3.5 stars rounded up! My co-worker friend suggested this place to try one night. She read about it in a review in The Guardian I think — ok, sure, yeah, why not? I got off the 38 Muni — pretty easy to get to. We got a couple types of fried chicken(loved it, boneless, tasty and not greasy at all), stir-fried kim chee with pork and tofu(loved the tofu, kim chee was interesting stir-fried, big portion), plus an order of sweet potato chips(big pile of thin crispy chips, yummm). Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs because the portions of each were HUGE! We had plenty of leftovers, but I loved the flavor and the service was a-ok. I’d be back if I’m in the area, and it was nice that we could walk to Trader Joe’s on Masonic to do some after dinner food shopping! Ey, location is everything!

I was here with a couple of friends before our movie at the Bridge Theater. It was around 6:30 and it seemed like nothing else was open in the area. Red Wings was an awesome find. The décor is a little funky but the service is cool. Our server was wearing Giants gear and had the two screens on baseball games. We ordered cheese corn and sweet potato fries(chips) as our premovie snacks. WOW. Cheese corn is amazing. Corn + onions and other little bits of goodness + cheese + hot skillet = fun times. Try it!!! The sweet potato fries/chips were good too. They are super thinly sliced and crispy and mmmmmmmmmmmmmm… It’s a little strange that they are sprinkled with sugar but I’m not complaining.

Okay, seriously… points to you if you knew Red Wings existed without the help of Unilocal.Tucked away on a relatively quiet stretch of Geary(seriously, I think the only other things open when we left were the liquor store next door and the Bridge theater across the street), it’s no wonder I never saw it all those times I’ve driven up and down the street. After coming here for the very first time earlier this week, ended up coming out again with a couple of my buddies so they could compare it to Chicken Town in Oakland. On my first trip, my friend and I ordered a half order(five pieces) of K-pop chicken(essentially just regular Korean fried chicken), a half order of the Yani Chicken(fried chicken with a sweet and spicy sauce), and a basket of garlic fries for us to split since… well, they’re garlic fries. Isn’t that reason enough? On my second trip, my friends and I went with half orders of K-pop Chicken, Manul Chicken(fried chicken with soy sauce and garlic), and K-jun Chicken(fried chicken with Korean style cajun seasoning). Of the bunch, I liked the Manul Chicken the best — the flavor of the sauce is very good, the roasted garlic added some tastiness, and the meat is really moist. The K-pop chicken was good — standard fried chicken with a light crispy batter, while the K-jun chicken is mostly the same thing, but with a different seasoning. Between those two, I’d favor the K-jun just for a little more flavor. My least favorite was the Yani Chicken, but that was mostly because of the sauce. The chicken is fine and the sauce is definitely spicy, but I didn’t care for that sweetness to it for whatever reason. Maybe because the balance was off, but it didn’t do much for me. As for the garlic fries, I liked that the fries were a little bigger, but I would have preferred fresh garlic like at Giants game, rather than the semi-fried type we had. Definitely a nice place to relax, enjoy some fried chicken, and take in some drinks with friends, especially since there aren’t any crowds or problems with parking. I can’t recall how prices compare with Chicken Town, but I think the quality of the food is about the same for the most part. Then again though, this is based strictly on the chicken since I haven’t tried anything else at Red Wings. Can’t really argue with the convenience of where it’s located though, and it’s nice to have another solid Korean spot to hang out at.

Moist Korean fried chicken! Definitely the best I’ve had so far in the City. Better than Cocobang, which serves a pretty similar style. The roast chicken was okay, but more of an herb flavor that we didn’t like. The obligatory pickled cubes of daikon were refreshing and tasty. They accommodated our request to make the ddukbokki with jjol myun, which is my favorite version of the dish. Loved it. Will be back for sure.

Cool place to hang out with people, eat some fried chicken and drink several rounds of Soju and Hite. We had about 10 people here and filled up about a quarter of the restaurant. The place is pretty small on the inside but it wasn’t a busy night at all for them. There are several flat screen TV’s tuned to sports channels in the restaurant and our waiter was really laid back. He kinda hung around and we made ourselves at home. The menu has two sizes for fried chicken, small or large. You can share the small dish unless you eat a lot then go with the large. We ordered a few different dishes of fried chicken, a mix of #1 and #3, rick sticks, grilled mushroom & chicken bites and garlic fries. Really did like the sauce with the chicken. You can ask for it to be on the side as well if you’d like. That was enough for all of us to go around. Parking was really easy to find and plenty of it in front of this place. I should have drove here instead of taking the bus. DOH!

I really wanted to like this place, especially since it’s within walking distance of my place, and gives me good reason to visit Sunshine Market to get libations to go with the food. Despite a very cute atmosphere in there, with TVs if you’re so inclined, mood lighting, and extremely friendly waitstaff, the food fell short. I tried the two faves: The Manul and the Yani. I found both to be pretty dry aside from their respective coatings, and I’m not quite sure why. They were piping hot, it seemed, so I didn’t get the impression that the wings had been sitting out and then reheated. But maybe I’m wrong. Neither sauce really had a full flavor. I found them bland and flat. Unfortunately, I ate maybe half of what I ordered and the rest had to go politely into compost.

Went here for dinner tonight and ordered a full order of Manul chicken. The portions were very generous and the chicken was pretty tasty. Just an FYI — a full order will serve two. Trust me I can eat and we still had leftovers. You can have an option of salad or rice with your chicken — be like us, go for the rice. How can you not have some starch when you’re having fried chicken? Our server gave a small plate of complimentary salad(shredded cabbage w/1000 island dressing) which was nice and refreshing. If you are thinking that Red Wing’s chicken is like San Tung chicken wings… ummm…no. San Tung chicken wings still win my heart when I crave Korean Chicken. Don’t get me wrong, Red Wing’s fried chicken was good in it’s own right. I’ll have to admit I was slightly disappointed that the cook who did our order drenched certain pieces of chicken to the point where it lost it’s crispiness. Then there were other pieces of chicken on the plate that were crispy but missing the flavor. Kind of bummed that the sweet soy garlic sauce missed those pieces. You also get a side of cubed daikon that have been pickled. These little white blocks were just what I needed to refresh my palate after eating all that garlicky chicken. All and all, the food was ok. It wasn’t bad considering for under $ 20 we both walked out with a full belly.

I lived in Korea until I was 11, and sauced fried chicken was one of my favorite food. It was so good. After I came to U.S., I’ve went to several places that offer Korean style sauced fried chicken. Don’t get me wrong, most of the places I’ve been was pretty good. But, I can tell you that it was nothing like the original back in Korea. The sauce was different. Fast forward 16 years, I finally found a place. This is it. The sauced fried chicken here is very very very close, if not exactly, to the original in Korea. I knew it with my first bite. Now of course, this doesn’t mean that you will actually like the chicken as well. but for those who are looking for that old-style taste, I assure you that it’s available here. Full order(serves two) was $ 15.80 for the chicken. Not too bad. I will definitely be back for more.
