Great owners, great international selection of wines, tasty charcuterie + cheese options, cozy, nice neighborhood. Can’t say enough great things about Que Syrah. After staring at it a couple of times on my muni ride through West Portal, I decided to give it a try. We’ve been a few times since because it is just a great place to be when you want to relax and have great conversation. It’s a tiny space, but therein lies its charm. It’s nice to have a neighborhood establishment like Que Syrah.

charming inside, great wines, the owners are lovely. I joined the wine club and all of the bottles have been home runs!

This neighborhood wine bar has SF charm written all over it. The owners are constantly sourcing new wines to cycle onto their wine list so it’s great coming in and trying a new bottle. The pourers are very friendly and knowledgable about the wines they have on the menu. Lovely place to stop by if you’re looking for a mellow night out!

When you have old grumpy regulars who don’t like you sitting in their favorite spots it might be time to try to cultivate some new folks. The fiancé and I were sitting at a near empty bar until –we’ll just call her Mrs Kravitz– arrived and stared me down because I had absentmindedly placed my backpack on the stool next to me. Did I mention it was nearly empty? I took the bag, gave the apology face and placed it on the floor. And then Mrs Kravitz proceeded to put her purse on that same stool! WTF! You’ll also see the antisocial wine drinkers nose deep in their laptops giving you stink eye as you figure out where to sit. Here’s a tip for the owner: if a customer is having difficulty deciding what varietal to choose you might want to find out their palate and even offer a tiny taste. Just saying…

Went here late night with my girlfriend and we both loved it. Very nice vibe and everyone was polite. We sat next to the fireplace and drank some great ports with some truffles. Will definitely be going here in the future and I hope it sticks around.

Oh, what a great little wine bar! He came here with your girlfriend just to grab a drink, and it was so nice! There were two people working the bar on Friday night the place was pretty felt! The place is self is very small, but it was just enough to fit everyone. I’d say they have a good selection of wines, but I’m just starting to get into rain so I can’t comment too much on it. However the bartenders did a great job of explaining different wines, and helping me pick out a really good one. The bartenders are also really great and wonderful people to even strike up conversations with. They also have cheese plates which are so yummy, but a little pricey. Actually the whole place is just slightly over the price that I would like to pay, but not super super expensive. Overall, a great place and I’ll probably be back… Just watch out because it’s super dark in there, and if you have bad eyesight like me, you have a hard time seeing the person you’re talking to you.

Great wine selection, I like that they had excellent service too. It has a very warm and comfy atmosphere. Veggie empanadas and chocolate truffles were top notch & charcuterie had a very flavorful pâté.

What a nice little spot. Great date night location… Fine wine and good conversation is a win win. The décor is cozy, dimly lit with a cute electric fireplace. I would definitely come back. They have a fine selection of cheeses to go with your wine. The owners of this establishment are friendly and welcoming plus very knowledgeable regarding their products. I recommend trying their weekly flights.

Very cute spot for a glass of wine, some fantastic Italian cheeses and a delicious hard cheese from Utah — sea hive. Mmmm. We had the sparkling wine flight and my favorite was the cremant rose. Great concept. Also looked like they sold bottles too. Nice ambiance with the fireplace and small tables. Great job!

Great service! Great neighborhood wine bar tucked away in west portal. Ambiance is great, feels like you are enjoying a glass of wine at a friends house. They always have a great wine flight tasting and the wines on the menu change often. Also don’t miss out on the cheeses, great selections!

Such a cute place in a cute neighborhood. We stopped in for a quick glass of wine while walking through this part of town. We were greeted quickly by the friendly people there and the wine was fantastic! We will definitely be back.

Cute little wine bar in West Portal. The staff was very helpful and friendly. It’s a very small place but we were able to nag the 4 top table right in the front. It was a Sat night, so I’m not sure if it gets very busy or not. The chocolate truffles were amazing and a great compliment to the wine. We tried a bottle of the Rose, and I wish I remembered which the name of the wine to recommend on here. Very low key, chill place to have a nice glass of wine with a friend, loved one, or awkward first date.

Stephanie and Keith are phenomenal at picking good wine. I like that they are from small production wineries, so you get to try things you wouldn’t ordinarily get to. I have also had several small parties there and they are quite reasonable. Chef Val can make his tapas menu available, or you can organize your own. My guests have always commented on how quaint and comfortable it is and usually walk out with a bottle or two. West Portal is a vibrant street and Que Syrah makes it even more so. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Phenomenal wine selections they have here. I went here after having Peruvian food for brunch with my bro. I felt like I need some good wine into my system. The lady that only works there is super. I am very satisfied with her outstanding service! We had a few dessert wines, Pinot noir, appetizers consist of bread, cheese, and cured meat! I feel that the appetizers need work. Other than that, everything is awesome. The place has a real nice vibe as you sip up that red elixir drink on a nice crystal clear wine glass…

Now that the gang and I are 26, we try to tone down with throwing back shots and try to visit wine bars instead. For us girls, we usually opt to have a fancy affair to celebrate our birthdays but for Mr. Dubs, he preferred somewhere classy but cozy. Sorry JT, no suit&tie required. Que Syrah is the definition of a cozy neighborhood wine bar. The owner(or servers) were extremely nice and helpful. In fact, not only did they allow us to bring a cake(a very x-rated and inappropriate cake) with no cake cutting fees but they were completely ok with us going over to Bull’s Head and bring back some juicy burgers to indulge inside. Overall, it was just a very pleasant experience from start to end. I was impressed that this teeny tiny wine bar was able to accommodate our party of 14. We were about 20 minutes late(running on Chinese time) but we did not get any type of attitude thrown at us at all. We had plenty of wine from 8:30PM — closing time and our bill came out more than reasonable. I can’t say that I am a wine snob but I have had quite a bit of wine in my time and I really enjoyed the wine selection that we had. My favorite of the night happened to be the very first ½ bottle of sparkling moscato that we had. Since we’ve ventured into our 26th year of classiness, I’m sure Mr. Dubs and I will be back for date night. Stay classy, San Francisco!

I went to Que Syrah a few years ago after reading all the positive Unilocal reviews. It didn’t make an impression – maybe because I went in broad daylight, or more likely because of the company. I was surprised, then, at how much I loved it when I returned three years later(in the evening, in better company). Que Syrah has an extensive wine selection and the ambiance is warm and cozy. What really made our experience, however, was the owner(?)/sommelier. I had asked a question about a wine I decided not to try, and when he brought over the glass I did order, he also brought along a taste of the wine I inquired about. He then brought us two more complimentary tastes, saying that because they were closed the following day, we might as well finish some of the inventory. This will be the new stop after pizza at Paradise Pizza and Pasta. My mom likes to say that nothing goes well with pizza like milk(seriously). I’m not sure that will really catch on, but following pizza with wine is never a bad idea.

I know this will shock those of you who know me but wine bars are not my area of expertise. I cant go long on the wine lists, ideal pairings, legs — noses — shoulders and other anatomical parts of wine criticism. What i can comment on is the solid customer service. I was in a party of 4 that grew to 6, we were there for a friends birthday, and the owner/host made sure that the birthday boy’s glass was never empty, as well as kept suggestions coming. The host also kept the atmosphere fun and informal which is cool considering that wine bars can be perceived as boring and stodgy. I dont recall the exact wine i had — it was a suggestion and it was definitely better tasting and more interesting than 2 buck chuck :) A really big positive that i thought is worth a mention is that they have 2 varieties of Poulaner — i think thats great in case you end up here with non wine drinkers or just dont feel like wine anymore Finally this is not a huge space which works well for the type of establishment that this is. With music playing and conversations going — i could still hear everyone at the table very comfortably which a huge plus. And a final word about customer service — i think we stayed about 45 mins passed closing time and the service remained great throughout, which gets the establishment a star.
