In a word, Much more Expensive, Tasteless and Disappointing ! No more here!

I would say 3.5. The parking in the area is not the easy and it is a little sketchy if you come here at night but all in all a clean and nice restaurant. I had the bbq pork rice platter, and it was okay, but the pork was a bit on the sweet side and tasted a bit like the chinese style bbq pork. I have seen people talk about the lack of «bean sprouts» and from what I learned, this is because of different vietnamese cultures, people from different parts of vietnam of course consume and serve«phở» differently, and it just so happens that the owners here serve phở without bean sprouts not because they don’t want to, but because they serve it the way they would eat it(this is just my take on the«no bean sprouts») My only pet peeve, is the name of the restaurant, there is no sign that says the name on the outside and when I picked up the business card it says, «phở nice».

Darn, I should have heeded the reviews. They really don’t serve any bean sprouts with their phở — shocking. The sign outside their store says, «Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine», but now I’m not so sure. The thin slices of steak tasted more like beef tongue. Also, the noodles were on the verge of sogginess — I had to eat them right away, all the while blowing on the steaming soup and transferring the ice from my glass of water to try to cool it down faster. ‘Tis a shame — there seems to be a dearth of good phở in the Excelsior area.

parking isn’t easy, you might have to walk a little bit. i was walking by and have been craving some kind of vietnamese bbq. my favorite place is closed and i’ve been hoping for a place that does GOOD bbq pork. this place did its job. though, i was the only one there to order and it was lunch time they had a decent menu. now, my favorite place is closed because of the health code. this place had sticky menu’s. sticky tables. but it looks pretty clean, but my favorite place was NEVER sticky like this. About the food. the bbq pork over rice was DELICIOUS! It was tender, thin, and not over cooked. it had great flavor and the rice was decent. the dipping sauce tasted good but most vietnamese restaurants have shredded carrots inside of the sauce… no matter though it tasted the same. i also ordered the vietnamese fried imperial rolls. LOVEDTHEM! they were crispy and had great texture and flavor also. The food itself tasted like a 4STAR restaurant. I took it to go though because the tables were sticky… thats all.

Do not eat the phở here! Noodles were overcooked, soggy, and broth was not good at all. Ordered #2 which was supposed to come with tripe but there was none. No basil and bean sprouts. The avocado shake has no whipped cream. The BF wanted three color dessert and the waitress said they dnt make any desserts on the menu. She said the menu was from the previous owner. She suggested the eggrolls which was the only good thing we got.

OK. this place use to be good and cheap food! Now. this place is really poor. like REALLY poor. Came here couple of times with friends. The phở tasted really good, but now it taste so bad! I gave this place another chance to come back again to eat the same phở. Yesterday, we came back for lunch, Our tea&cups was not served by that lady… and she BARELY speak ENGLISH! I mean really… why don’t she know what we’re talking about when we pointed the food and drinks we want to ordered. next thing when I ordered the same phở I had before… I swear I said«MEATONTHESIDE» which that lady didn’t even understand it! She came out with a bowl of phở with MEAT inside and it’s already cooked! Now she really needs to listen more carefully, open her ears and also LEARN her ENGLISH so she could understand people’s order!!! Also she didn’t bring out a plate with bean sprouts w/asian basil & lemon on the side. ONLY a BOWL of PHO??? I have to asked for it, she came out with only lemon and jalapenos in a small bowl… -.-;;; Next thing I saw some guys customer comes in for phở, all I see the same lady served them tea w/cups… wow really!!! Are we like invisible??? They ordered phở. and guess what!!! She came out with plate of bean sprouts, asian basil, jalapenos and lemon! WOW that’s just BADBADBADCUSTOMERSERVICEDRIGHTTHERE!!! She only served the guys more then us girls… -.-;;;; WILLNEVERRETURNTOTHISPLACEEVERAGAIN! NOMATTERHOWGOODTHEFOODIS!

I REALLY hate to write this review but I figure I have to save everyone else’s time to not come here. me and my boyfriend haven’t been in here in a while and figuring that the owner kinda misses us, we went back. Big mistake. We didn’t see the original owner there, and instead a lady who barely spoke english serviced us. Nonetheless, we ordered our food and when it came to ordering the shredded pork rolls, she tells us that there is no shredded pork roll and instead we can have the shrimp one. Ok, that was fine, it didn’t matter to me. We got our phở, and the broth was different… bad different. It was flavorless almost. And the green onions we normally get cut were just shreds which made it hard to not eat it and choke on it. While eating, I see the same old chinese lady who busses the table when the old owner was around and she was not happy at all. I can tell something changed. I go to pay the bill and the bill for one spring roll and two bowls of phở was 29 bucks! Where do you even get that amount?! I didn’t say anything since I fgured they kinda need the money but damn! Never again!

Dirty. Just like Harmon L., I had a similar experience. I would give it zero stars if I can. I came in and had an order of Shredded Pork Roll for take-out. After paying, I didn’t want to sit and was standing at their service window waiting for my order and watching them make the rolls off and on. At one point, I saw the guy making my rolls picked his nose. I did not see if he wiped it or not but he definitely did not wash his hands. He knew I was standing there so I have no idea why he just didn’t wash his hands. Pretty disgusting. For the sake of my mind, I assumed he did. It’s not like this Asian hole-in-the-wall place will give me back my $ 6. NEVER. COMING. BACK. HERE. AGAIN. Such a sad thing because I always pass it by and want to order Vietnamese food. Now I have to walk an extra 3 blocks for it.

know why this place has such low ratings. it’s definitely not bad at all! –Good, cheap food! –I love the meatballs in the phở –The phở broth is not salty like some places –The food comes very fast right after you order it –One last thing. the place is pretty clean for a phở restaurant! I would definitely come bace, especially since it’s the closest phở place to my house. :)

Potential phở fail. Always try to order a restaurant’s namesake. Here I was too distracted by the BBQ chicken and shrimp. Each are a favorite. Together they are irresistible. The phở would have to wait. A generous, perfectly grilled serving of each came on top of a bed of vermicelli noodles and greens. Could have been a massive salad. Or a massive pasta dish. Whatever it was, it was awesome, and even better with hoisin sauce. Cheap. Quick. Delicious. There is no phở regret.

Pros: Bun Bo Hue is spicayy. Food boosts immune system.* Cons: MSG. Watery shakes. Dirty.* *Really fucking dirty. Seriously. I work a block away at Geneva Eye Care, and would sometimes stop by for lunch with my coworker. I took a liking to their Bun Bo Hue because it was spicy and the proportions were just right(their large is not large, but it’s enough). This past weekend, I had some really delicious Bun Bo Hue at Bun Tre in South San Francisco and have been craving it ever since. I made it my mission to get some for lunch today at Phở Hoa Hop. I went in alone to a similarly empty restaurant, and chose to sit at the window so by-passers could see how sad and lonely I was. I was promptly seated and given a menu and a glass of ice water. As I was trying to decide which fruit smoothie to get(it was super hot today), I saw the man who seated me sneeze and proceed to fucking blow his nose in his hand, only to rinse it off in the sink. No soap. And apparently not even a fucking paper towel. He returned to take my order with his hands dripping wet on the floor, as well as a big smile on his face. …Yes, clearing your sinuses can be very relieving. «Uh… large #7, please…» «Anything to drink?» «NO.» :S I tried not to think about it as I eagerly awaited my Bun Bo Hue. This man continued to make it exceptionally difficult for me, however. As he was preparing my order, I heard him sneeze twice more, and then hock up a loogie.(I am not sure if he spit it out or not.) At that point, I should have just up and left, but I didn’t want to be _that_guy.(So instead, I’m being _this_guy. Not sure which one is classier.) I also didn’t have any evidence that he sneezed in my soup or handled my noodles, bean sprouts, asian basil, etc. with his mucousy hands. Nevertheless, I will not be returning ever again. Would I think twice about returning for their delicious Bun Bo Hue, however? Hmm… I wouldn’t even think once about it. The answer is «fuck no.» Geezus. tl;dr Just read it.

Not bad at all. Phở on a cold day beats Popeye’s every time. I also like the vermicelli bowls and the Vietnamese coffee. Definitely check it out if you’re in the neighborhood.

I was hungry and have seen this restaurant before while driving through on Mission Street. Found a parking space about a block away and tried this restaurant for a late lunch. Got the spring rolls with meat and those were pretty good. I got a large bowl of phở and it was good, but I thought the broth was a little bland for my taste. They had fresh sprouts and basil so that is always a good thing for me. This restaurant is on a very busy intersection but it wasn’t noisy at all inside. The outside of the building looks pretty rough considering it is busy with people waiting for the bus but no points were docked for that.

This Phở place is quiet and is in a decent spot. If you are in line at popeyes and get anxious and hungry and its a Tuesday or Thursday get out of line and get Phở. Its cheap-er(than then general price of $ 6.25 this place is $ 5.75 for combo bowl special #1) and quaint. There’s a cute painting of a lighthouse on the wall and if you don’t mind the slight bit of traffic noises since it is on a main street, then you’ll like this place. It’s decently sized and the fact that its pretty much empty a lot makes it look even bigger. I would come here to eat phở and study, since it does get quiet and the tables are large as well. The owners seem nice and friendly. I am coming back and next time will be walking from my house, since parking is basically limited to residential streets. Credit Card/Visa/Mastercard accepted too. WOO!!!

3.5 stars sounds about right. The phở was average, not poorly made, but not spectacular either. The nuoc beo/leo here is on the murky side but I didn’t mind( ). The«bun bo Hue» was okay, but a cousin swears by it over other places. I think it’s because of the MSG extract. Overall, this place is average, which is not necessarily a bad thing… it’s consistent, with decent service and never a poor meal. Worthy of a stop-in, yep. The atmosphere and décor is basic noodle-house, but with clean floors and tables. Ironically there are flies buzzing about inside such a place, which is no big deal, but that should be noted. Parking is hard to find, even along nearby Mission St or Alemany Blvd. The other side of Geneva Ave, almost directly across, usually have one open space. Go figure. There’s a Popeye’s next to it and a bunch of MUNI lines stopped in front. Bonus review: the movie«Extract» had some funny moments but seemed more like a commentary on small production plant operations. Not too original as it’s strictly predictable, and with a wth-that-was-odd-type of ending.

This is a decent place, considering the area. It IS a pretty random place for a Vietnamese restaurant, what with the waft of fried chicken assaulting your nostrils as you walk toward the entrance, passing people with blank expressions on their face and a bucket of chicken in their arms… Considering the area though, it’s whatever. I’m happy there’s a place that satiates my phở cravings in the neighborhood. I’ve been here twice. The place is very clean, with neatly labeled condiment containers on the table and the like. If you don’t like Spongebob, don’t come here. There’s a small boy that hangs out here and both times I’ve been here, I’ve listened to nautical nonsense from someone yellow and absorbent. Anyway, the first time I came I ordered the beef stew with ho fun noodles and a mango pearl milk tea. I found the beef stew lacking, with mediocre beef quality(with lots of fat left on) and stale broth. The milk tea wasn’t any good until you mix around the ice because it came lukewarm, like another reviewer said. Still, I was hungry so I ate half the stew anyway. Maybe it was an off-day, so I’ll probably try the stew again since it’s pretty inexpensive and the portions served at this restaurant are very generous and filling. I came here again looking to try the phở. I ordered the special combination phở(regular size without tendon) and was very pleased. The noodles and thin flank slices were of perfect consistency. I nearly finished my bowl, which says a lot since I usually can’t finish phở from any establishment(it’s so filling!). I also got the salted lemonade, which was okay, but it just tasted like regular limeade. For the price(5.25 for regular sized bowls) and portions, I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone who is in the mood for a big bowl of noodle soup. It’s clean and quiet, and the ladies who work here are very nice.

This is a nice establishment. And the food actually taste good. I’ve had bad phở before and I’ve had other place’s version of phở, and this place has authentic rice noodle soup and great other vietnamese foods. Although they don’t all speak vietnamese there, so it’s hard to ask for something when I only know what it’s called in vietnamese, but they are eagar to get it right so they end up bringing everything until they get what you asked for(I asked for a special onion oil for my soup). My favorite thing to get there would be the shrimp spring rolls and the seafood clear vermicelli noodle soup! It’s amazing! Oh and before I forget the prices are really reasonable too! The only reason why I didn’t give it all 5 stars was because of the fact that I go through so much to get the special oil for my soup every time.

I don’t know why it’s all bad reviews for this place. I think it’s one of the better Phở places. It’s close to where my boyfriend lives, so we dont have to drive too far. It’s in the most random place for a Phở restaurant to be at. On the Geneva and Mission, right next to the Popeye’s. I always get the meat ball phở, and they have the best meat balls! It’s nice and big and has those little pieces of tendons, yummm [this is starting to sound perverted ;]

I changed my opinion about Phở Hoa Hop and decided to add another star — it’s an OK place for me to go to when I can’t take the bus down to the Sunflower or the Lotus Garden. I was having one of those work from home existential crisis, and my sugar went way low. I wanted Vietnamese food, but it felt like too much to take the bus anywhere. I’ve been eating a lot of Vietnamese noodle lately… Anyway, I went to Phở Hoa Hop and ordered #1XELUAHOAHOP Large — special combo with thin slice of steak, well-done brisket and flank, tendon and tripe. I had to add a tablespoon of Sriracha chili sauce. After that, it was pretty good. The thin slices of beef were a lot better at Sunflower, but overall the bowl had a good amount of «stuff» in it. The Sunflower didn’t have tendon and tripe in their beef noodle soup. Neither did Lotus. I guess if you want that kind of stuff, here’s a good place to get it. The noodles were still in a clump on the bottom, but I was OK with it. I had gone to Sunflower the night before, and their noodles were in a clump on the bottom(at the one on 16th). Everything we had was mushy. She ordered the Fresh Spring Roll.(Three rolls for $ 4.95) I had one of her rolls and it was so gummy and ultra bland. _I_could have made that at home by myself. It tasted like it was pre-made and not fresh. My god, the transparent rolls are supposed to have some snap in the wrap. This one had the skin of a white elephant, it was so wrinkled. I ordered the Beef Stew with Rice Noodles($ 5.75). Again, that was bland and sort of luke warm. The noodles were in a huge clump on the bottom of the bowl. Bad… Then, the meat was so fatty and tendony. As soon as I got home from eating there, I was flossing like mad. As it were, I didn’t get a whole lot of food, and I didn’t eat most of it. I wonder what their Children Beef Noodle Soup is like… the(KIDSIZE) looks strange on the menu. I agree with Brian H. and Mar H. Incidentally, the people eating there aren’t Vietnamese. They’re Chinese like the waitperson and the person cooking in back.
