This review is for their sweet items. Namely the sapin sapin & hopia ube — in my book, they mastered it, chewy pitsi pitsi & hopia not too crusty, greasy– At least with this new owner as of 2⁄2016. Owner changed hands a couple of times, that I know of, in the last 20+ years. So far, the current owner is bringing back the good stuff.

Completely shocked. I live close by and have been trying all the restaurants in the area to show my support of local mom and pop places. I knew they were mostly catering based on the reviews so I inquired about their lumpias and pricing. She said 5 for $ 1.00. Great! Pretty standard. Then suddenly they were 5 for $ 2.00?! She packed me 5 that were soggy and split on one side.(Like the frozen ones I fry up from Manilla market!) Needless to say, I gave her my $ 2.18(+tax) and told my kids that was the extent of our support for that local business. Nick’s is still my go to place.

The review is only for their specialties for the holidays ordered for pick up. Puto, Ube Jalaya, Cassava cake & Pork embotido. First of all their Puto, is not the original Puto that they used to sell years ago when they opened up this little place. This is more like a baked Puto instead of the original puto that is supposed to be cooked by steaming rice powder w/coconut milk & yeast, sugar etc. I’m giving their Puto a 1 out of 5. Their Ube Jalaya kakanin? What can I say about their Ube, but it is the poorest version of Ube jalaya I’ve had! Theirs is again made more of the sticky rice powder added a bit of Ube for taste, a whole lot of blue & green food coloring to make it dark purple yam color. This tasted more like a purple colored sapin sapin w/extra heavy sticky rice. I can’t even give it a rating, because it doesn’t taste like an Ube. The texture is very sticky and jelly like. My mom makes the best Ube, but she’s too old to be cooking this which needed constant heavy duty stirring until fully cooked. For the Cassava cake, I would rate it as 1−½ out of 5 for the taste and texture. This one looks closed enough to the original, but the taste lacks all the good flavor that goes w/it. My mom and I cooked this before at home and their version is a tiny bit close to the original. Theirs is probably a third of the original recipe. You know, if you really want this place to be a favorite go to place for the Filipinos as a Philippine delicacies mart and if you want people to line up and flock at your place especially during the holidays, hire the best cook who knows how to cook and get all the right ingredients! I will be the first one to line up at your door. I don’t care if you hike up the price for the right amount of ingredients, as long as it is the best out there, just like back home! Instead, you make and offer all these poorest version, with a third of the ingredients missing. Yes it is cheap, but I guess all these people who orders here will just get what they pay for! Cheap & Not so good version of the original taste from home! Sorry, to say, but I’m so will not be coming back this way again! And by the way, their embotido for $ 12.00. Skip it! Too salty I would rate this as 1 out of 5! I DO want my money back! But the best way is just not to come back here again!!! Again, this place used to be good, but if you look at all the other people who rated this place with 3, 4 or 5 stars, it’s been years ago!

Many mixed emotions on this place for me. I would give them 4 or 5 stars because I love their food. The pancit is probably the cheapest, and largest portioned I can find; and it’s delicious! I have gotten large orders for parties from them, and there are never any leftovers. I love going there for the puto and other desserts. I have been going here since I was a child, and they are easy to get to. Now the real reason they get a 2 is because they can be rude and racist. Although I am Filipino, I am half white and appear to be that way. So when I stand in line, there have been times when they ignore me and help the other Filipinos in the store, people that have come in after me. Yet, I continue to go back for the food, and they have been treating me like that since I was in elementary school, so I don’t think they will change. So if your’re Filipino you probably won’t have any problems there; if you’re not, you might have an issue. If you’re lucky and go in on a good day, they can be really REALLY nice and helpful, but I think that they can be a bit bipolar too.

I haven’t seen or heard of this place until today! My teacher brought in a bunch of Filipino desserts to class and I’m in looove with their suman! I also tried their kutchinta, bibingka and pichi pichi. All were FANTASTIC! I’d like to come back here and try their food for lunch. and get more suman hehe. :)

Puto + dinuguan(chocolate meat!) = perfect combo. The puto here is so good. Warm it in the microwave for about 15 – 20 seconds on Medium High for that«just-steamed» taste.

Yea the place looks kinda looks dumpy and taggers tagged up the front, but don’t be put off by this This place was one of first Pilipino food places I ate when I first moved here to the city. They have good Lumpia, and Pilipino Menudo slightly different from the Mexican variety I’m so used to except they serve a side of Rice rather than Tortillas, but pretty good. Fast food I’ve also had their Chicken Adobo. Ive had a Royal Orange Soda(Similar to Fanta and Jarritos) but a bit sweeter. Have yet to try their deserts.

This place is a few blocks from me. They have decent ‘to go’ food and other Filipino snacks and goodies. They have some really good bangus that you can fry up yourself or can buy that is already cooked but these are not the reasons why I come here; karioka balls and the babinka(I forget how you spell it). YUM!

I’m not usually in this neighborhood, in fact I’m a newbie and was driving by and I love to check out different grocery stores! :) The store front didn’t look very appealing and as I walked in, there were different spreads of food items either for to go or eat-in. The other section has some groceries of packaged items, snacks, chips, buns, breads, etc. I picked out my snacks, taro buns, ube and bean ice-cream. They also have fried banana which were huge and some dessert fried dough balls on sticks. I guess they do catering as well for certain dishes. Unfortunately I didn’t try any of the warm foods but maybe next time, for now, I’m happy to find my goodies. 3.5 but will round it up to 4.
