My dog and I were on our nightly walk down Church Street, and we stopped to read the note taped to the door. Handwritten on a piece of plain paper was a short message about Pescheria having closed its doors for good. My heart sank. My boyfriend and I have been regulars at Joey & Eddie’s for about a year and a half, and we’ve often chosen to celebrate special occasions there(birthdays, anniversaries). We’ve also taken several family members there when they were visiting from out of town. The service was impeccable and the food was always outstanding. One of our favorite appetizers was the calamari. In terms of main dishes, my boyfriend loved the scallop risotto, and I was an unswerving fan of the gnocchi. We also adored the desserts — especially the cannolli and the lime/berry granitas. We wish we’d known that Joey & Eddie’s was closing because we would have been there on its last night to show our support and appreciation.

The only reason I gave two stars: 1. Parking right in front of the restaurant 2. Wait Staff was very nice Otherwise if you want a spec of food for a high price then this is the restaurant for you. The oysters are warm and not very good. The polenta was like soup and the scallop was just OK.

At first I was confused: the wine list is many, many times longer than the dinner menu. There’s exactly* 5 starters and 4 main courses on the menu. Those starters and main courses are all between 6 and 10 dollars, very inexpensive when compared to the wines. We ordered calamari(small, tender, juicy), tuna with lentils(oh my god, just perfect) and butterfish cooked in paper on a bed of potato(soft, rich, may-I-lick-the-paper delicious). Together with a big pile of bread to soak up the juices and the wonderful olive oil they were serving, this was a good amount of food for us. However, unless you consider lentils to be veggies, we didn’t have any veggies whatsoever. I’ll have to go back to see if there’s any veggies to be found on that little menu. * «exactly» here actually means«I think I remember seeing approximately.»

I could explain why the 5 stars but why? Excellent dinner. Voila

Dozen oysters for $ 20. Definitely the Hama Hama oysters were our favorite of the three types. We then split an order of brussel sprouts and the butterfish. I preferred the fish, while my friend thought the fish was too rich.(Scratches head. Huh?! Too buttery? Too rich?) The brussel sprouts were good. My friend thought they were mighty tasty as he finished off the plate. Had space leftover for dessert. Tiramisu. The cream on top was incredibly decadent. At first I thought it was marshmallow topping because it was soo thick and gooey. Too thick and gooey. And I’m sorry, but the server was wrong: Moscato d’Asti was not a good pairing with the tiramisu. All-in-all, it was a nice dinner, but not sure I’ll add it to my list of favorites.

Okay, so this probably won’t be a fair assesment of the restaurant since I’m a vegetarian, but what the hell, throwing in my two cents won’t hurt. They had a special vegetarian appetizer of a portabello stuffed mushroom, which was really quite tasty. The gnocci with mushrooms was generous in portion and good to the taste. We also ordered the brussel sprouts(without the pancetta) and kale as sides. Besides my dining partner having the lobster, it was almost a vegetarian feast! Service was attentive and sincere.

Lovely store front ambiance plus delicious Italian wines recommended by our terrific server(together with champagne I chose all on my own) plus good friends = a nice time. But the food was not great. The oysters were delicious, but I could have passed on the rest. The tuna and pureed garbanzo beans were good, the gnocchi with mushrooms were a bit overcooked, as were the brussel sprouts, and the sea bass and butterfish really were not all that. I got the feeling that tonight(Tues) no one cared or was paying attention. If you don’t cook with love, what good is it, je me demande. I bet if I had the risotto and steak, those would have been good. But I thought at a place called Pescheria, I reliably could order the seafood. Not so. Maybe — given the generally good reviews — it was chef’s night off. But I will say that it wasn’t worth it.(Try Lolo’s! Or Slow Club. And we’re going back to Maverick this Friday, so try that too.)

Let’s see… it’s Saturday night. We don’t have the kids… maybe we should go to bed at 10:00 and take it easy. OR… we could call our friend Lenny and see if he can get us a table at Pescheria and get our grub on! DONE!!! So we headed out to enjoy this place that I have been meaning to try for some time. The atmosphere is great inside. Very hip but not so hip that I felt out of place. People are casual here and it’s welcoming once you get in the door. I am friends with the guy that served us, so we went off his suggestions of what to get. For appetizers we had a tuna tar tar like dish that was incredible as well as oysters in the half shelf(three different kids) and the tables favorite calamari. The calamari came in this little bucket and had the consistency of a fine pastry. It was by far the best calamari I have had! Main courses were all great as well. I had grouper over a bed of pumpkin polenta that was divine!(that’s right I said divine!) The grilled skate was also incredible. Desert was a fantastic canoli and a very nice sweet desert wine. All in all, this place was great. Comfortable, great food, great service and we left happy and full. What else could you want?

I can only review their brunch as I have not had dinner here yet. Originally wanted to eat at Toast today but was turned off by the huge wait! Pescheria next door seemed empty so we decided to venture and try it out — Was pleasantly surprised by the food. I had a yummy BLT — which has a yummy piece of seared tuna in it — Bacon and Ahi Tuna — YUMM! My wife really liked her dish which was smoked salmon over a potato pancake and a poached egg. Their coffee was good too! I admire this restaurants creativity with traditional brunch fare — I highly recommend it!

Patio seating in the back is a must!!! Who knew it was back there? Nicely designed, organic, and warm; perfect for Sunday Brunch on a warm day. Roasted Wild Coho Salmon with a Poached(perfectly cooked!) Egg — awesome, light, tasty, and well flavored. Served on a bed of roasted potatoes, squash, and zucchini. Yum!!! If you are looking for slightly fancier fair for your breakfast on Church St., then definitely come here. I think few people realize they serve brunch, if you can’t stand the wait for Toast(couple doors down) or Chloe’s(a couple of blocks down) then Pescheria is a pleasant/welcome alternative.

Excellent!!! Items to definitely try: the bruschetta, it’s not like what you would normally expect… it’s better!!! the spinach salad with figs… so perfect. the oysters are also really good my favorite entrée is the butter fish, so tender, amazing flavor. They also have a full bar with a special drink menu. The wine list is also good. The service was very friendly.

Bottomless mimosa rock. I especially love the pomegranate mimosas and I seriously spent up the $ 17.50 tab for it. Remember to ask the waitress to switch it up! Between pomegranate and orange. It’s no Lime. That means it’s better food and unfortunately no people watching. The salmon lox w/potato pancake and poached was killer and was a huge amount of food so I was satisfied. I think I am going to try the fritatta next time. The only gripe I have about this place and I shouldn’t because I was treated to brunch by my coworker. Fred ROCKS! I love birthdays. Is that there are no atm’s around the area. You have to walk to 24th street just to find a Wells Fargo or B Of A. That’s okay though.

I don’t give a lot of five star reviews but sometimes a place just earns it. This is definitely one of those times. I ate at Pescheria for the first time about two months ago and the experience still sticks with me; so much so that I had to go back two days later for the same dish(more on that later). The restaurant itself is very nice. The main room is comfortable and airy(maybe a bit noisy) but the best space is the back patio which is perfect on both warm days and cool nights. The oysters are exceptional and priced very well at $ 2,25 a piece. The Calamari was perfectly done and seasoned very well with coriander and lemon zest. Then came the main course, the Halibut. I have lived in Seattle for seven years and the Bay for 3 now so I have had my share of exceptional Halibut. This was by far the best I have ever had. Grilled asparagus, potatoes and pickled saffron onions topped with a perfectly cooked piece of halibut… perfect harmony of texture and flavors. Exceptional. I hope it never leaves the menu. The service was also top notch as was the wine list. All-in-all a wonderful dining experience. Note: Pescheria just opened for Sunday brunch last week and it was great as well. The grilled Mahi BLT is fantastic and $ 15 bottomless mimosas, in three flavors(orange, blood orange and pomegranate) rock the Casbah! You want good fish, done right, then you need to visit Pescheria.

Pescheria doesn’t feel new. It has an exciting buzz, but already feels like an old favorite, a place you can count on, where you can relax because you know that your meal is going to be perfectly executed. Our server knew the menu well, and was great with suggestions and I am glad that we took his advice. We started with 3 appetizers: grilled calamari, tuna with beets, and tomato and burrata salad. All of them were excellent. The grilled calamari comes in a cute cast iron pot, and has a savory garlicy sauce that you want to soak up with bread when the squid is all gone. The tuna with beets was a huge portion of raw tuna cubes and tender beet cubes, with basil and toasted pine nuts — a perfect summer dish. The heirloom tomato & burrata salad — yum! Buttery burrata(soft mozzarella & cream which make a soft cheese, served fresh), ripe tomatoes, just a drizzle of olive oil and vinegar. For dinner, I had the Arctic Char which is a very interesting and delicious dish, full of flavor. A generous piece of char sits atop some beautiful roasted baby vegetables — tomatoes, zucchini, potatoes — all little morsels bursting with flavor. Atop the fish is a poached egg — and the combination of the runny yolk with the rich flavor of the veggies makes this a very tasty and beautifully textured dish. I had a taste of my friends’ entrees — the halibut and the paparadelle with mushrooms. The halibut was very good — fresh, with bright spring green flavors, but the pasta? Oh my god, to die for. They make the pasta from scratch at the restaurant, and it is divine, with a creamy mushroom sauce that I am still dreaming about today. For dessert, our server recommended the cannoli, made in-house from the chef’s grandmother’s recipe. He was right — they were delicious, with a delicate crunchy exterior and rich but light interior, and the perfect ending to our meal. All in all, my experience at Pescheria was great — I would easily recommend it and would go back again in a minute. It is geared towards fish-lovers, but there are fishless dishes on the menu as well, including the wonderful pastas. This restaurant is a contender for a 5-star rating if my next couple of meals there are this good — and I think they will be! The menu will change every few months, so try it today. Make a reservation, because this cozy neighborhood restaurant is a popular new dining destination, for all of the right reasons.

A solid three stars – positive overall experience, but not a show stopper. The nice bits: They were able to take us for dinner at the bar, prime-time on a Saturday night, without a reservation. Extensive wine list, mostly Italian, but with knowledgeable staff to help choose. Very fresh fish and menu that apparently changes often. We enjoyed the char(a farmed cross between salmon and trout) a little better than the halibut(prepared in parchment paper), which was surprisingly uninteresting compared to the real savory, buttery versions you often get. I can definitely recommend the starts, arugula salad and asparagus. Although we didn’t take advantage, the outside seating in front and back look enticing(and might help avoid the sometimes gagging raw fish smell wafting from the kitchen). The«meh» bits: Amicable but slow service, even though the small restaurant was not very packed and we were sitting at the bar. This gave us time to chat with a cool couple sitting at the bar, one of whom shared my grad school alma mater. On the other hand, it made us a good 45 mins late for our next stop where we got a good chastising from waiting friends. The décor was very off-putting for me. I tried to figure out why – I would normally like the cool aqua-blues and greens of the walls and tile accents, but pared with metal chairs and sickly lighting, it instead left me a little green around the gills.

What a great find in Noe! I think this place is relatively new. We called on a Saturday night(forgot to make reservations earlier) and got a table for 2 for 9PM. The décor is aesthetically pleasing, lots of blues and greens. I especially liked the tiling. The tables are oddly proportioned, so when you’re sitting across from someone, they seem really far away from you because of the length. Service was great. Also, they have a heated outdoor patio in the back. We sat in the dining room, but walking past it, it looked nice. We had the oysters and radicchio salad to start. The oysters came with a red peppercorn and green onion concoction that was interesting/different but not particularly pleasing to my palate. My friend could not stop raving about the raddichio salad, saying that it was a salad that he could eat forever(this means a lot coming from someone who doesn’t really love eating salads). For our entrees, we had the butterfish and and a seafood soup(kind of like a Zarzuela de Mariscos) with mussels, prawns, clams, a kind of white fish in a tomato base. Both were quite tasty. We were so stuffed that we didn’t have room for desert, but looking around at our fellow diners, the deserts looked creative and delectable. Noe needs more restaurants like this Pescheria!

Conveniently located next to my regular Sunday Church, St. Paul, Pescheria is a nice addition to the Church restaurant line up. Once your inside, the colors reflect a trip to an aquarium with their use of blues. The hostess accommodated an earlier reservation and the server was great at preventing me from my usual over-ordering. I was let down by the usually warm oysters and I was annoyed by the bitterness of the greens on top of the backed clams. You won’t go wrong with the huge pot of seafood goodness called, the Zuppa. It is very filling, so be warned! The tiramsu is different with its thick cream and a syrup lining on the bottom. I’m giving Pescheria a 4, but it barely gets there because some of the dishes were a huge let down, but the rest of the overall experience makes up for it. Get reservations, because they can get crowded!

At first glance, the place looks a little too austere and generally cold — lots of metal, bare walls(with the exception of the wall on the south side of the restaurant). But when we sat down, the place warmed up, and it was actually quite a nice space, warm, lots of hustling and bustling around. Full disclosure: I like some seafood but I’m not a seafood fanatic(like I am with red meat). But I do love me some lobster bisque, and this lobster bisque is delicious. Lots of yummy, rich cream… I’m sure it was entirely low fat. I ordered the butterfish which I’ve had a lot of recently; it was definitely one of the most flavorfull butterfish dishes I’ve had. The parchment paper-wrapped butterfish was like a little gift arriving at the table! The food came a little slowly but it wasn’t a terribly long wait(just a tad too long), but our server recognized the long wait and apologized. She made a great wine recommendation for us too. Way too stuffed for dessert but I’m sure it would’ve been good. But Jon B.‘s conversation was really the bright spot of the evening…

I love this corner of the City. I just feel good when I’m walking around here, and this good feeling has apparently translated into me really loving the restaruants in this part of Noe as well. I met up with a friend here last night and while the service was a little shaky, the food was ahhh maaazzz ing! Seriously good. If you are a fish lover like me, this should be your next stop on the dining train. I started out with a clams appetizer, the name escapes me but let’s just say it was closely related to muscles moulinaire. The sauce was delectible and there were these little spicy red peppers thrown in which really balanced out the creamy goodness of the sauce. I lapped up the bowl with my bread. Restraint was not an option. I then had the artic char which had a polenta base and a celery root sauce, with, get this, a soft boiled egg perched on top. Once you cut into the egg spilling all that yummy yoke all over the fish, well, you were in heaven. My sole complaint with this place was that it took a really long time to get water, bread and to even place our order. Granted we were on the back deck and I think there was only one server, but the bus boys could have brought us that stuff. It was a good thing we didn’t need to be anywhere soon. I think this place is new, so I’m sure the service will improve with time and as they iron out the kinks. All in all an excellent meal. I think the owner was cruising around checking on people, and he was very pleasant. I enjoy touches like that. This place is great, highly recommended.
