This is a great place. The food is good, and you can tell that the owner takes any suggestions from his customers seriously and tries to improve. The people are super nice. We have been there multiple times and will go again. Highly recommend.

Yummy… ordered the carne asada tacos and I’m a fan forever… will definity go back to truth other menu items. Churros were a little over cooked and could have used some ice cream.

We received excellent service. The staff was incredibly nice and attentive. My husband and I even had a small conversation about it during our menu. We first noticed this place on our morning walks, they are always cleaning early in the AM with fun music blasting. Our first visit, this evening, was long over due and well worth it. My husband enjoyed his shrimp fajitas, as did I since I stole more than a few bits. The chips and salad are delicious at $ 3. They were also kind enough to give our dogs a fresh bowl of water when we first sat down.

Nothing is that great. I’ve had their ceviches, enchiladas, chips and guacamole, fajitas, tacos and burritos. Burritos would be my only recommendation. Only end up at the restaurant when others on Hayes have too long a wait.

The phrase«Papito Hayes» is always followed by «ooooh duck confit burrito» when my boyfriend and I talk about this place. They know how to cook and experiment with Mexican food, which is how i’m sure duck confit burritos came about. He swears by the burritos, but I love the taco options. $ 14 gets you 4 tacos, with is more than enough. Their carnitas and the steak are superb too. Lots of varying flavors on each taco, especially with the different salsas. Chips and salsa are always on the house, but we always get the freshly made guac, because… GUAC! Who can say no to that?! Their ceviches are also really good. We’ve tried all of them and have never had a bad experience. The sangrias are also a great blend of fruity flavors and red wine. Would highly recommend for dinner!

Don’t let the full restuarant stop you from throwing your name on the list. As soon as we wrote our names down we were greeted by the hostess that seated us. I thought the service was really great including Raul who helped me select a wine. He was so patient while I tried different types of white until I found the one I wanted to drink. The food was really good and reasonably priced for the quality and the neighborhood. I would definitely go back and soon.

I really wish I could have given this restaurant the 4 stars I had intended too. However hours after leaving the restaurant I wound up in the Emergency Room being admitted for food poisoning. The only conclusion I can come to is the Pozole. That was the only dish in which my boyfriend and I did not share and the only item of food in which I ate. The service was great, the food was otherwise good. However the bill in which I received after for medical expenses not to mention the physical pain in which I went through was not worth it. I am not sure i will be returning to pepito for the fear of going through that bout of food poisoning again lol

I came to Papito Hayes with a few friends for brunch on Saturday morning since the other good brunch places nearby were quite packed and required waiting in line. However, we were pleased where we discovered that Papito Hayes didn’t have any line at all. I had the pollo frito poached eggs and I must say that I loved the Mexican adaptation of the traditional eggs benedict. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked(had the right runny consistency), the fried chicken was crispy, and the hollandaise sauce was smooth. I also got fruit as a side since I was trying to adhere to my 2016 new years resolution to eat healthier. The fruit was plentiful, included a diverse assortment of fruit types, and tasted fresh. Our waitress was also very friendly(she seemed to love my hooded sweater, which she commented looked like it was from Helmut Lang). Overall, a wonderful foodie experience.

.More of a 3.5* but I go too often to round down :) Not your Mission taqueria but some solid stuff: Super burrito(I get it with chorizo) is BIG and the guac in it is very good. Better burritos in the city for sure but not bad at all. Shrimp enchiladas are great but they skimp a bit on the shrimp quantity. Otherwise very tasty. Decent margaritas and GREAT habanero salsa which has good flavor and a nice kick. Papitos is somewhat lucky to have a little monopoly on Hayes st as the only Mexican place there but as a Hayes resident, it does the job

Papito is a cozy, hip restaurant in the heart of Hayes Valley that serves«california fresh» Mexican food. This isn’t the kind of Mexican food you find in Mission joints like El Farolito(although there is always an occasion for El Farolito fare, like drunk at 2am). Papito Hayes serves an elevated take on Mexican classics and I was surely not disappointed. My two roommates and I went on a Friday night around 7pm and was seated within a couple minutes without a reservation(they don’t take reservations). We were prepared to wait 30 min just because the restaurant is pretty small, so we were off to great start! APPETIZERS: +Guacamole & Chips $ 9: Guacamole was chunky and tasty! Great starter dish, but it wasn’t anything out of this world. I prefer the guacamole at Mamacita more. The waitress was attentive and refilled our chips whenever we ran low, so +1 for the awesome service! +Esquites $ 9: We ordered this not really knowing what it was, but basically it’s a grilled corn salsa. It was a light side dish that paired well with our chips. But for $ 9, I would’ve rather just had another order of guacamole. Don’t order, you can make it at home. ENTREES: +Duck Confit taco: the duck was shredded, full of flavor, generously portioned, and juicy. The pickled topping & mint tamarind sauce brought a breath of freshness that cut the saltiness & fattiness of the duck. So fantastic. Would definitely order this one again. +Fish taco: fried rock cod with a cabbage slaw on top. It was good, but not anything that isn’t served elsewhere for cheaper. Wouldn’t order this one unless you’ve never had a fish taco in your life, haha. +Carne Asada Quesadilla: the shining star of the night. The quesadilla was conveniently served as 3 thick triangular slices, one for each of us. The caramelized peppers and onions are perfect with the skirt steak, which was not dry at all and packed with flavor. I really enjoyed the fresh radish they put in the quesadilla because it made the otherwise really heavy dish feel lighter. ORDERTHISONE! DRINKS: +Blood Orange Margarita: Very drinkable! Not too strong, not too weak. But it was VERY tangy. I didn’t mind it too much, but my roommate was adding water to hers to dilute it because it was too sour for her. Maybe next time I’ll ask for some sugar to offset the sourness? But I would still order it again because its pink, pretty, and got me tipsy: P

Boy was this place overpriced, but as expected for a San Francisco meal! I came with a party of four, and we got seated promptly. We got the sangria, which was strong and had a good ratio of fruit. We got the queso fundido with chorizo as the appetizer– which was amazing!(with the chips served). It was literally just meat, cheese, and beans, but really flavorful! For my meal, I got the carne asada enchiladas which was served in this really deep dish. The dish as a whole was great, but lacked a little on presentation. The tortillas soon began to fall apart and I found myself abandoning the tortilla all together. The carne asada + beans were really the winners!!! I’d definitely come back, and you should too if you are in the area!

For almost a year, I’ve been eating in Hayes Valley and walking right past Papito. My boyfriend and I aren’t big on Mexican food, but we finally decided to give the spot a try. After one trip, we couldn’t stop coming back for more, and Papito has become our favorite Mexican spot in the city! We’ve only been in for brunch during which they have more breakfast items like scrambles and breakfast burritos. The breakfast burrito is truly the largest one I’ve seen, stuffed full with beans, rice, scrambled eggs, and meat. Although it sounds daunting, it was actually one of the lighter breakfast burritos I’ve tried. I also love the veggie scramble, which they somehow infuse the eggs with veggies because it comes out green and packed with delicious smoky grilled veggies and housemade cotija cheese. The highlight though, are the quesadillas. Before Papito, I had never ordered quesadillas at a restaurant. They have such a great variety of quesadillas, each with different fillings that complement each other perfectly. My favorites are the chicken(which you can ask for grilled instead of fried) and the shrimp. Meat portions are very generous and the cheese is just enough for some decadence without being too heavy. I love their mango and apple salsa that brings an extra tang, and the avocado in the shrimp quesadillas add a great creaminess. Best of all, the organic tortillas have the perfect crunch to wrap it all up. I know the Mission is the place to go for Mexican, but Papito is probably my one and only in SF!

This is a nice change change from the grimy Mexican Taqueria’s in the Mission; it’s more of an upscale, more intimate Mexican Restaurant. I’ve been here a couple of times and I really enjoy the food here. The most recent time, I ordered the blood orange margarita which was VERY sour so beware. I enjoy sour, so I really liked this drink! We always get the corn esquites for the table. It’s basically a dish of fresh grilled corn taken directly off the cob. It’s very easy to eat because it’s not on the cob anymore and it has a great flavor — definitely recommend this! For main, I’ve tried the veggie burrito and the veggie enchiladas. I really like the veggie burrito because it also has fresh veggies which make the burrito more unique than just beans, cheese, rice and salsa. Their take on veggie enchiladas is more like veggie tacos folded over a bed of rice and beans and drizzled with some sauce. I prefer my enchiladas more drenched in sauce so I don’t like these as much as their burritos. Recently I also tried their flan and it was amazing! You could taste the freshness and you knew it was not made from a ready made powder. It comes served with fresh strawberries and the combination of the two is so delicious! If you have space after your meal, definitely get this! Overall I really enjoy Papito; it is a little expensive compared to other Mexican restaurants but the ambiance and quality of food makes up for that!

Ummm loved it! It’s not your hole in the wall burrito joint that serves up some dirty delicious food frequented by homeless and hipsters alike — it’s a much cleaner, modern, classy yet casual mexican joint that serves all organic food that they pretty much make everything at the place. The service is very friendly, the food was clean and delicious, and the place is just really nice and modern — will definitely be back!

Upscale Mexican food located right in the heart of Hayes Valley. Intimate setting, with a relaxed atmosphere and great service. I had the shrimp enchiladas which were very good in served a unique style which I didn’t expect. As with most things in Hayes Valley, this place is slightly overpriced. But overall a great place to grab some margaritas and some quality food.

Poor man’s nopalito… except mediocre food that’s a few dollars too pricey. Service was fine. Got busy around 630 on a Wednesday night. Had the chips/salsa, ceviche mixto, shrimp enchiladas. Salsa didn’t have any heat. Ceviche needed to be chopped a bit more – nobody wants to eat a straight up octopus leg.

On a busy Saturday afternoon, Papito was able to accommodate a group of four on short notice. If you’ve ever been inside this location, four people is a large table. I’ve enjoyed their tacos and apps before, this time I had a shrimp burrito. Plenty of meaty seafood within and goes great with guacamole. Servers are awesome, on the cheeky side which I like. Nothing too over the top, makes you feel like you’re dining with friends.

Read the good reviews and saw it was packed so the wife and I figured it would be a good place to sit back and eat. Despite how busy it was we were seated in about 10 minutes. The waiter came to us pretty quick to get drink orders. He pushed the sangria and stated it was ver good. He was very wrong. Do not order sangria here, it’s well below par. The food however was the opposite of the sangria. We had the veggie cheese dip appetizer, vegetarian enchiladas and ceviche mixto(seafood one). All of it was amazing. I was full about ¾ of way into meal but could not stop. I didn’t try the dessert but if it’s anything like the main courses and appetizers then it will be grand. I do recommend this place to eat for the service, food, and atmosphere. Just avoid the sangria.

Stopped by here on a weekday afternoon to grab a quick lunch. Everything = SOGOOD. I got the Papito Salad and added carnitas. By doing that I saved $ 3 in extra lettuce and the meat/veggie ratio was spot on. Lots of meat, not mostly salad. The dressing was light and citrusy. My boyfriend got the pozole and they brought this cute little side place with extra fixin’s to season to your liking. The broth was delicious and it came out piping hot. I’d definitely be back! Others’ meals around us looked delicious too.

The place is intimate as far as size goes, there’s only a handful of tables and booths. We walked in right after the lunch rush and luckily they were able to accommodate us fairly quickly with no wait at all. We hunkered down in our booth with the menus and our eyes glazed over with all the choices. We decided on the corn ‘Esquites’ appetizer to start and a pitcher of regular margaritas($ 30, ~5). The margaritas were deceptively strong and between two people we got roughly 2.5 each. I was kind of craving a handful of their items, but ultimately decided to split an appetizer and a wet burrito with my boyfriend(it was the right choice as the burrito was massive). We shared the Albondigas which were good but only came with two meatballs and the rest was all brussel sprouts(not a bad thing, but when you order meatballs you kind of expect more of those than the veg they’re served with). We ordered the ‘Burrito Mojada’ with both sauces(a good choice, I recommend doing this) no meat because we knew it was going to be large. While it wasn’t the most amazing burrito I have ever eaten, I was all about those sauces which were both memorable and full of flavor.
