I, too, have been going to Helen for over 20 years. I started when I lived and worked in the City. We moved to the Peninsula in 1990, but I still go up to SF to have Helen do my hair every six weeks because she is that good. Everything good the others have said on Unilocal is true — she is a great colorist and stylist, wonderful conversationalist and all around interesting person. I used to get perms regularly, but stopped when Helen showed me my hair was now naturally wavy and I don’t need perms any more. My husband has gone to her for as long as I have. We couldn’t be more pleased.

I have going to Helen Louie at Ovo Designs for 20 years. She is terrific! Not only is Helen always very warm & welcoming, she is funny, witty & charming. We have so many interesting conversations about everything. Plus she can cut & color to perfection. Very professional. I lost count of how many compliments I receive. One friend said to Helen ‘So you’re the one that keeps Pam looking beautiful!’. Whenever I go to her, she know’s how to style so even though the cut may look the same, it is a little different each time. Also, the color always looks natural — And I’ve gone from being a redhead to brunette & back again. You never look as if you just had your hair done. The shop is very bright & clean. Lots of good magazines to read. Nice music playing in the background. The other stylists at the salon are also very friendly. Many times it’s like being at a party as many of the same people have been there for years. All of us get along so well. The location is perfect. You can walk. In my case, it’s 2 blocks from the office. Muni/​Bart is just a few steps away, too, as well as other bus lines. Helen is the best!

I have been going to Helen for many years, and followed her to different salons.
The one she is at now, Poppies Hair Salon, is very comfortable, I never wait, they play nice music and there are always good new magazines.
Helen always makes me look good and does what I want. She is an excellent colorist and her rates are reasonable. She has the same clients return to her year after year. This salon in particular seems to attract regulars; there is a friendly, casual down-​home atmosphere between the stylists and the customers.
She is also a very interesting person and I feel good when I leave, not only because I look good, but her energy just makes you feel good.

Helen is a fantastic hair dresser. She listens to everything you have to say and is really nice. Some hair dressers have a tendency to cut too much when it is just a mere trim. Helen cuts your hair to what you like. I highly recommend seeing her and she’s by appt only.
