Get the meat buns and dim sum. Stay away from the Pork Vegetable Noodle Soup. May be the worst dish I’ve had served to me in SF. 5 bucks for a big heaping bowl of overcooked meat, undercooked stiff beehoon, and lettuce and pickled vegetables is not worth it. Oh don’t forget the strand of hair thrown in too.

Gotta give this rating for their Chinese beef stew noodles. Only six bucks, a huge container of hot noodles, beef tendon full of flavor, can’t do much better in Chinatown.

Obviously not as good as the other more famous ones :/shrimp dumpling was dryyyyyy. Sticky rice bun was huge but lacks flavor and has obvious food colouring. Yikes.

The pork siu mai are divine. Shrimp cheung fan are worth coming early, chicken bun one of the best in Chinatown. They also have lo mai kai and wan tan tong mien. Very good.

Comparable quality and price to the ‘Good Mong Kok Bakery’ just down the street, except with no line out the door and much better service. The Har Gow here is excellent and only 70 cents for 3!

I loved this place! It’s basically a hole-in-the-wall, very little seating or space and you’re pretty much eating in the kitchen. The food was fantastic, I had the pork bun which was so sweet and delicious and I had several dumplings. My girlfriend and I had lunch there and we filled up for less than 10 bucks. If you want delicious, a little greasy, authentic dim sum — go here

You can’t beat 70 cents per dim sum piece! They have steamed beef siu mai and my favorite steamed vegetable dumplings! They offer other small bites, such as black bean pork ribs with rice! Coffee and boba too! Very limited seating! Cash only!

A tiny gem in SF and these ladies have been at it for quite a long time. If you’re the type of individual that aaaalways considers service key, don’t even eat there. You don’t understand how these places work their magic. This is a typical tiny hole in the wall so if you’re looking for these ladies to wait on you hand and foot, you’d be better off going somewhere else. this is just straightforward, know what the hell you want, order, sit and grub kind of place. No frills, just deliciously homemade Chinese food. Enjoy it for what it is.

This cash-only, hole-in-the-wall has one of my favorite 1 $ BBQ pork buns in the city.

Stockton is where the people who live in the Chinatown area shop & eat. This review only covers their Tapioca(they call it bubble tea) and their low prices. The food itself isn’t very good but if you don’t want to spend $ 8 and up on food every meal this is one of the few choices to save $. You won’t find too many places that sell any food for $ 4 outside of Taco Bell. Their bubble tea is only $ 2.50 for a large, it’s not as good as my favorite on Irvine but the flavor is really good but the tapioca balls aren’t very good.

We were up in SF for a wedding and this place was close to our Airbnb. After a short stroll(I always forget about those hills), on a crisp morning around 9am, we popped into the little shop. So, it is not much to look at and there is just a small counter and a few tables. Things didn’t seem all that clean, but it was not gross or anything. Just old I guess. .. ? The woman behind the counter was unpleasant. While she was efficient, she certainly was not helpful and I would characterize her in general as ‘curt’. My husband ordered in Mandarin, but when another guy came in(Asian), he just ordered in English. So either way, you will get the same service. THEFOODISSOCHEAP! Our bill was only $ 12.40 for a ton of food. I am still shocked by this and it is the only reason it got three stars. Wonton Noodle Soup — huge amount of the price, but not really flavorful in any way Chicken Bun — ok, but the dough was too doughy for me Siu Mai — FAVORITE and it had a ton of yummy pork Leek Dumpling — my husband said, «It’s just ok. . « Sticky Rice with Chicken — decent, but it had huge pieces of chicken which was odd Long Noodle — not so good Shrimp Dumpling — standard, but the dough was a little gooey Food: OK Price: AMAZING Service: MEH Inside: TAKEITTOGO **Cheap plastic utensils made my life a little harder that morning

This restaurant is the first of my quest for«the cheapest Chinese restaurant in Chinatown that serves great food». Since I worked at 4th and Market, it was the first candidate after I walked through the Stockton Tunnel. If you want a cheap lunch, this is one place of many! For my cheap list, this place is only good for the black bean spare ribs — but see my «Cheap Chinese Resturant» list for others with more variety. Here, I always order in Chinese because it gets a rise out of the elderly. It isn’t hard. Just say, «Pie qwhat faun» — means spare-rib rice. What you get is spare ribs cooked with the fermented black beans, steamed rice and some bok choy… and a bowl of soup: «tong». This lunch is very tasty. For most, that will put your hunger over the top — but I like to have a couple of «gin doy» — the little sesame seed balls filled with a sweet sesame seed paste. If you are brave, you can say, «lang gaw gin doy» and they will give you two… but beware! If you say, «lang gow gin doy» — you may end up with a whole box full! I did that once and ended up bringing back a big box of them to the guys at the office because I was too embarrassed to tell them I only wanted two. «Lang ga» — two. «lang gow» — a whole bunch. Of course they speak English — but it’s always fun to try and communicate in their language… and if you ask them, they will help you with the pronunciation. If you are squeamish about grime, you will not like this place. They have the grimeiest rice cooker I ever saw. You will see lots of grime elsewhere, but it is something I’ve always been use to. I grew up with cockroaches and mice. They lived out in the garage. I always had the idea that everyone had cockroaches in the garage and weevils in their flour just like there are house flies everywhere. So, «grimey» never bothered me — and as I have mentioned in the«Ma’s dim sum» review — I have never been sick from a Chinese restaurant. If you think a little grime on the rice cooker is enough to turn you away, read the book: «Tears in the Darkness: The Story of the Bataan Death March and Its Aftermath» and then ask think about the rice cooker. You will likely see eating in a whole new perspective. The seating is «intimate». What I mean by that is there are no chairs, just stools and narrow bars to eat your food. I have eaten the dim sum there — ordered a box and walked south on Stockton Street, up the stairs over the tunnel and eaten my dim sum while watching the traffic.

Food stall traditionnel chinois. Les dim sum sont préparés dans la piece d’à côté. Très typique!

No doubt, this hole in the wall has cheap prices. Truly no frills. Water in a cheap paper cup and plastic spoons and forks Communication to the staff is a challenge. Had to write everything down. Best thing we had was Won Ton Noodle Soup($ 4.00) Big bowl full of rice noodles and good tasting won tons. 3.5 stars. Chicken over rice($ 4.00) had some cheap parts of the chicken in a moderate quantity over steamed rice and some green vegetable which was bitter and nasty. 1.5 stars We also shared a steamed chicken bun and my wife had a custard bun. These are not to my taste. Baked onion bun was satisfactory. Cash only, No surprise here.

Large BBQ Pork bun was great! So were the noodles. Can’t beat it for the price. I fed the family for a total of $ 14!

You know, good mon konk gets all the acclaim but I have to say, this is a legitimate shop. The selection was good, the food was piping hot and considering I had GMK the day before, i thought this was better.

This place is very small, but they still have a variety of dim sum to choose from. I tried their hai gow and chicken bun: both were tasty. I would stop by this place if I was heading towards the Stockton tunnel again.

Walked into this place after getting off MUNI and walking towards Chinatown. Extremely tiny hole in the wall with a few tables and chairs inside. We grabbed a few pieces to eat before trekking around for the Flower Festival Parade. Our Order Har Gow(Shrimp Dumping) Cha Siu Bao(Steamed BBQ Bun) Gai Bao(Steamed Chicken Bun) The Har Gow was steaming hot with not too thick of a skin. The shrimp inside was good but left a salty taste afterwards. Of the buns, I enjoyed the Gai Bao more as the Cha Siu Bao’s meat was on the dry side. As we were taking the food to-go, I found it amusing that the Har Gow was also given to us in a small plastic bag. It made it easy for us to eat since we had no utensils as least. Cheap place(our total came out to less than $ 5) for decent food.

Dim sum oh soooo good! I pretty much come here almost everyday during my work hours while working on the ambulance. What can I say, other then if you need something quick and good to eat come here. The food is very tasty and cost is cheap. It would be nice if they took debit but cash only works for me too. Dim sum for breakfast lunch or dinner can do no wrong.

After standing there with my $ 2 in hand, watching the staff shout in conversation across the restaurant for 3 solid minutes, they finally acknowledged me. Dumplings were average and lukewarm. I also got a small chow mein($ 1.50) which was kinda bleh. I should’ve known not to buy it considering it was sitting out on a hot plate and not covered up or anything. They also sell pastries here but I didn’t try them. I probably won’t be back. Sorry, I know this isn’t very helpful but… I do what I want. (shrugs and walks away).
