Sign in window: Closed indefinitely. Too bad. Great place to relax and study. Great bagels too.

The food is mediocre/semi-okay. But the service is ridiculous. The place is haphazardly open at best. And when it is open, they rarely have the full menu. The bagels are basically round loaves of bread — certainly not good bagels, but at least fresh. But what really drives me nuts about this place is if you ever call to place an order for pickup, nobody ever answers the phone. And then when you show up – without fail — the guy working there is sitting on the phone talking to a friend. Do yourself a favor and walk a block west and go to The Grind.

For juice fans out there, this is an amazing find. Nectar serves up two fresh organic juice blends that I love: green(kale, carrot, apple, celery) and red(beet, carrot, apple, celery). A 10 oz glass is just $ 4.50. The smile is free. The restaurant brings fresh, local, organic and affordable together in a rustic Mexican setting, complete with adorable garden room in the back. I have not yet had their pizza, salads, sandwiches or bagels, but I’m hooked on their juice!

awesome sign, secret place. i live down the st, and its my favorite coffee around. they steep it the old school way with cloth and ground up beans and hot water… and it is delicious. the food menu is a B+, but if you are looking for a quiet place to study or start curing your hangover, you’ve found the place! the same 2 guys always grinding behind the counter, so always support them with some tip love! my «go-to»: egg sandwich with chicken sausage on an everything bagel + small coffee

I really wanted to like this place. It’s super cute, like you’re in a greenhouse or Costa Rica or something. The staff was really nice. There’s a hidden gem sorta feel to it. We got the steak sandwich and the beet pizza. The problem is maybe their dishes are a little too simple? It’s really sliced steak in between two slices of bread. And the pizza, while the crust was interesting, wasn’t very flavorful. And the menu said arugula, but it definitely wasn’t arugula. it was just like lettuce. Weird…

Relatively new place in the neighborhood. Nectar is a great spot for an easy brunch to meet up with friends but predominantly a coffee shop to read or work. It has a nice table area in the back complete with a sun room. I had the egg spinach cheddar sandwich– it was simple but delicious.

I don’t often leave public reviews, but this place is so flaky I can’t help myself. Regardless of what their published hours are, they never seem to be open. I noticed it on a stroll down Haight Street and thought«This place looks cute; I should check it out.» People were inside, but the door was locked. It’s definitely still daytime, so I figure they must close early. A couple months later, my girlfriend and I are walking down Divis when she says«Hey, I just saw this cute place on Haight! Let’s go get dinner there!» I mentioned my past experience, so we checked their hours online. It said they should be open, so we walked over. Nope — the door’s locked. That Saturday, we’re determined to give it a try, so we give them a ring. — «How late are you guys open today?» — «Until 3:00.» Cool. We head over about 1:30, and it’s the same situation — people inside, but the doors are locked. Now I’m perplexed: maybe this is the wrong door. Nope; one of the diners leaves through it, so I hold it open, and we walk in. The same guy I talked to on the phone comes up to the counter. — «Sorry, we’re closed.» — «I just called you, and you told me you were open til 3.» He plays dumb: — «I don’t know about that, but we’re closed. You can call the manager if you like.» He points to the menu that has the same phone number I had just called him on on it, and we walk out annoyed and emptyhanded. I’d love to give this place a try, but I’m not going over there a 4th time to have the door locked in my face.

went with kf. cool atmosphere — indoor atrium area with skylights and outdoor garden. limited menu. chicken sausage egg sandwich was ok. sausage was tasty and not greasy, but there wasnt enough. plenty of egg. chiabatta bread i think — too dry and no taste of its own. i may come back to try something else.

This place is great. They have bagels and breakfast sandwiches as well as lunch and they make fresh vegetable juice. The beet and goat cheese salad was great too. Great neighborhood place!

There’s a glorious little sunlight room in the back of this terracotta shop with glass windows, which overlooks a small garden. Bathed in light and privacy, you can have a great time with a small group in a warm setting, that almost makes you wish you could hop in straight from the beach, still in your bathing suit. I agree with the people beforehand who noted that this is not a destination shop, but a great place to stumble upon. Happening to end up here, however, is an indication that even if you thought you were having a bad day, you’re not. The steak pizza(with goat cheese and pesto) is good. Most of the food is either pizza or sandwiches/bagels. This was also very reasonably priced.

I have to admit. I don’t really want to review this place. I want to keep it a secret. Forever. My own private, quiet, garden-view workspace. BUT. That is not fair and my mom taught me that sharing is good. So, because I know they are ramping up again after a recent transition period(used to be Katz Bagels), I wanted to help get the word out: If you are in the hood and looking for a very mellow, very healthy spot to read, work, or talk AND eat fantastic small portions, this might be your next favorite spot. Garden access possible in near future, as well, for all you horticulturalists. Things I love and didn’t want to share with you: 1. Water-boiled bagels. If you know your bagels, you also know what I’m talking about. These are the real deal, bring me back to the east coast. Bagel sandwich in the morning is a lifesaver — fresh dough, light egg, organic cheese. Perfect. 2. Fresh organic juices are incredible. The real deal. I watched the fellow clean and prepare mine today. And it was excellent. 3. Pizza — he makes it from scratch. Crust is perfect. Light. Ingredients are fresh — you can taste each one. I think the thing was $ 8 or something ridiculous. 4. Hot beverages — larger and cheaper than the other spots in the hood. I love those places, but I am starting to love this one more. 5. Wifi if you need it. 6. Wine if you need it. 7. Plans to introduce daily or weekly specials is exciting — bc the fellow in the kitchen right now is GOOD and has some incredible ideas for light and heavier meals. Stay tuned. 8. Décor is warm; garden room is bright and wonderful. Soon, they will have a permit to serve in the garden itself — so I expect word will pick up and the good weather will bring hordes. I am dreading this, but so it goes. And yes, service may be slow at times if 3 – 4 folks all arrive at once — there’s only one person working at a time right now as they ramp up. But this should change once more folks start discovering the place. Which I hope they do, for Nectar’s sake. Not mine.

This is why I want to move into the Hayes Valley area. Little discoveries like this restaurant just brighten my day. My friend found Nectar when the venue we were going to meet at was full. I liked it more for the atmosphere than anything else. I didn’t order any food, but the my drink was both interesting and invigorating. I think I ordered the red juice. All I know for sure is that between me and my two friends, we got the red juice, the green juice, and the yellow juice. That’s some instagram-worthy stuff right there. We sat in the back room which is well-lit and connected by a back door(I think it was locked) to what looks like a little jungle paradise in the middle of San Francisco. Lots of exotic looking trees creating really tempting shade on a hot day. If they ever open the doors to that garden, give me a holler. I’ll sit under there with my Macbook all day watching old episodes of Mad Men.

Nectar’s menu isn’t life-changing and it’s definitely not a destination spot. It’s one of those places that you happen to stumble upon if you are strolling down Haight Street. In fact if you do happen to order here on a particularly nice day — be prepared to wait — since it is often understaffed and the person taking your order is also likely to be the person cooking your food as well. This past weekend — on a much needed bathroom quest — I decided it was the perfect opportunity to better acquaint myself with lushly decorated Nectar. Right away I took to the wood lined interior and I particularly reveled in their sunlit back area. I ordered their green juice which is made with fresh carrots, kale, celery, and apple. While I waited for my juice I noticed that the cashier had disappeared into the kitchen. I peered back there and watched him quickly, efficiently and artfully construct a steak salad and sandwich. Even though he had a wait at the cashier — I saw him and his fellow chef — take their time and construct each dish with care — from the way they sliced the avocado, to the way they adorned the salad with dressing. And though I had moments where I had pangs of anxiety that I was going to be late for my appointment that I was on my way to — I was just too mesmerized by the magic that was unfolding in that small kitchen. I then watched the main cashier wash his hands and proceed to freshly juice my ingredients. He handed me an off-color green juice — which I sipped all the way to Civic Center. I could taste each single ingredient’s robust flavor — and not too badly priced at $ 4.50. Yes — Nectar isn’t the most happening of spots. Yes — your order may be backed up. But rest assured that those making your food — will take their time with it, while you bask in the beams of sunshine which peer in through Nectar’s back windows. Trust.

Great décor and feel. I wanted to move in and live there. I will go back and start recommending this place when: 1. They stop using disposable/recyclable cups for dine-in water, and start using glass. 2. They provide clearly-labelled recycling, compost, and landfill bins for patrons.

Its a decent place. Really nice backroom with a very homey feel. Perfect for late b’fast on a Saturday afternoon. Had the slow roasted pork sandwich with orange/carrot juice. Delicious juice, the sandwich was nice but nothing to write home about. I live down the block and will definitely come back. Their pizza looks delicious!!!

#greatdecor #grilledcheeseonsourdough *a friendly place with amazing décor that makes you want to come back* The place just feels… organic somehow. From the sign outside, to the back patio area. The art pieces that are displayed all made of wood are on sale and very unique. I’ve been here a few times for breakfast bagels, but this is the first time I got an actual meal. The breakfast bagels are not too shabby although the bagels could be bigger. This time however I ventured a prosciutto grilled cheese with goat and mozarella cheese. Overall tasty meal, the iced tea was very refreshing, and the red juice was actually quite rejuvenating. A place worth checking out again as it is close and the only bagel place around. Moderately priced and a organic casual atmosphere to hang out at.

$ 9 handmade pizzas??? Thats awesome! Probably one of the best deals in the lower Haight. Great coffee and $ 4 micro brews. I wish them many years of success. We’ll def be back. Total bill for pizza and 2 beers… $ 17.

Hey! WTF? Do I have the wrong block, maybe Katz is one up… oh wait. No. This used to be Katz Bagels. They did a complete renovation. I really like the new look. All wood, very warm and inviting and creative. I should have taken a picture of that too, I’m sure someone will address my oversight… They seem to have kept most if not all of the old menu; they’ve still got bagels and pizza, but they’ve gone all upscale coffee as well. I’m mostly a tea man, but when I saw the linear-array open-top single-serving coffee makers, I decided to try a cuppa joe. It’s was pretty damn good! If you used to come here for bagels(and i think Katz has the best new-york style boiled bagels(chewy and dense compared to the cakey Noah’s stile ew), you can keep coming, and you might even stay awhile longer.
