Was looking for a phở place in the neighborhood… So I decided to try this place out. Let’s just say I’m still looking for phở in the neighborhood. My boyfriend ordered the beer noodle soup, didn’t have any flavor and the beef that was in the soup was way over cooked. I ordered wonton noodle soup, that’s tasted decent after adding a bunch of hot sauce and soyu sauce.

Food is good — Prices are very reasonable — very nice people — and close! My hands down favorite is their curry chicken vermicelli soup — satisfies whenever the«phở bug» hits…

This is our favorite neighborhood go-to spot, too. It is essentially unchanged from its former incarnation as Irving Café Too. Same consistently pleasing food, same clean dining room, largely the same pleasant staff. Still a bargain. Wife and I have ranged all over the menu during the last 6 or 7 years. I had something I didn’t like only once or twice. As I said of this place, pre-name change, it’s bullet-proof. It appeals to a wide range of people. Their boba drinks are good.

Our favorite go to neighborhood spot. The food is always spot on delicious at a good price and the service is always polite and fast. I seriously don’t know what I would do without this place!

Best described as average. Not many Vietnamese restaurants in this area, so it’s an ok place for a hot bowl of noodle soup(with your choice of different noodle types). I came here hungry for banh mi, when Ty Sandwich was closed for vacation and remodeling. The banh mi costs 50 cents more than Ty, and the meat choices include beef, pork, chicken, cold cuts, and also fish meatballs(Ty added a lemongrass beef banh mi in August). I didn’t like the banh mi when this place was called«Irving Café and Deli Too». Sad to say they’re still as subpar as they were back in 2008 — chicken banh mi is mostly fat and skin. The beef banh mi was just okay. It’s hard to believe that it’s operated by relatives of the owners of Yummy Yummy(better food). They don’t share the same culinary skill standards, or maybe they employ a less talented kitchen staff. I’ve only seen one woman doing all the cooking in their large kitchen. I don’t recommend the banh mi, but the noodle soups are decent. Yes, the soup has MSG, but not as bad as Phở 99(which already closed) in Daly City. In my limited experience, service has always been friendly. Although the counter person is constantly on the phone, chatting, taking phone orders and bagging food. So expect to wait, even on days when the dining room is empty. Place your order at the counter then take a seat. The wall mounted TV is connected to a security camera, so it’s not really a TV. On the positive side the interior is very clean. The bathroom(ask for key on front counter) is in the back, need to walk thru the large kitchen.

As someone else said, nice mom and pop place. Clean. Food comes out hot. I had meat egg rolls which were tasty, maybe a little too much deep fat oil on them, but hell, it’s an egg roll! Then I had the house special wonton noodle soup, which was also good.

— Chinese staff 100% — Low quality ingredients — Regular phở has little taste at all — Bun Bo Hue not seasoned properly – used sugar or hoisin sauce so it’s kinda sweet. wtf? NEXT!

I crave Vietnamese food every now and then. This prompted me on my search of a good Vietnamese place nearby. Within this month I have called in 2 To-Go orders so this review is based on my experience with ordering To-Go. Calling in the order was quick and easy. I cannot say that I am any kind of fan of their Phở. It could be because they were both To-Go orders and Phở usually is best when you eat it on the spot. My experience both times with this is that the Phở noodles are too stiff. They are straw-like and were not soft either times that I ordered it so that was disappointing. The broth for the Phở was good however and they do give a great amount of meat.(I ordered the beef Phở.) The reason for 3 stars is solely for their customer service and their egg rolls. The service was good. I called in my order and picked it up within 15 minutes. Everything was packed and ready to go when we arrived for pick up. Their egg rolls are a good enough reason for me to come back. They have a very soft crispy shell that is delicious. They don’t use your typical egg roll wrap like other Vietnamese restaurants do. I am actually craving some egg rolls as I write this review.

Came here because Ty Sandwiches is temporarily closed. I got a Banh Mi. No picked daikon. No jalapeño. No onion. The chicken lacked flavor and tasted like it was reheated or had been sitting around for a couple days. It was a sad experience. This is my second time here and it’s kind-of MEHH.

Solid, solid local vietnamese restaurant. Sometimes I see 3-star ratings and think to myself«no, not good enough» but actually this place is the true definition of 3 stars. It’s totally reliable, and the food is not AMAZING, but you know you’re going to get a trusty bowl of phở for a decent price. A 5-star rating in Excelsior is asking for a lot anyway. Everyone knows phở is the best hangover food, as someone once told me «it’s the broth of life,» and my meal here fell nothing short of that. The servings are massive, and I could barely finish half of my bowl. Some reviews here seem to complain about the women behind the counter, but honestly they’re kind people and are just trying to be efficient. Also nice about this restaurant, the menu is plastered on the walls in picture form so you can try-before-you-buy. Come here for phở. Go next door to TY sandwiches for a Vietnamese sandwich. Welcome to the Excelsior.

This is by far the best place to come when you want the best phở or wonton soup! I was sick and always crave a hearty wonton soup. I ordered the wonton noodle soup and was blown away by all the amazing flavors and textures in the soup. The kitchen is spotless and of coarse as always I do a bathroom inspection and give it a A+ for cleanliness! The only bad thing is once you try this place, you will start to crave it! 5 stars

It’s clean, it’s tasty and the portions are big! We’ll be back! I had the house special Phở, and the girls had Phở broth and noodles only. We ate everything. The only thing I can think of that they can improve on is the atmosphere. The fridge humming and the occasional employees talking is the only noise in this place… maybe some muzack in the background would be nice. No waiting, and the service is fast. Place seats about 20. This place also didn’t have any funky smells, and we didn’t leave this place smelling like what we ate. :-D

This is a great local business! The food portions are big and affordable. I personally love their chicken noodle soup with ho fun. The base is savory and rich. I crave for it whenever it’s rainy or cold out in sf. The staff is friendly and are quick to remember you once you go there. An extra star goes to them for opening until 9pm. I have yet to try the other soups and rice dishes, but their drinks are good to-go. Lemon ice tea, thai ice tea, and ice Vietnamese coffee are some good choices.

this place is so low key, awesome and they have a great menu I’ve eaten a lot of phở in my day and don’t have anything negative to say about it! they also have a large variety of soups and their sandwiches always come out super toasty. in fact, I’m about to go eat there right now!

Wandered in with the boyfriend on a Monday evening. Staff were friendly and prompt. We were seated and given menus as we oogled at the large pictures and menu on the wall of their food. Decided on Soup, asked our server if they were for 1 or 2 people and they assured us it was for 1 person. We went with two soups. 1) Beef Noodle Soup 2) Shrimp and Tomato Paste Soup We were given tea in plastic cups… and then our meals arrived, they were *HUGE* We could have easily shared 1 and still had left overs! But we dove in spoon first to see what damages we could do. The beef noodle soup had Meat Balls and once very thin piece of beef with noodles and green onions. The broth had NO flavor, it tasted like water. Garnished with Lemon, Pepper and Cilantro it was a little more tasteful but we have had better. However, my Shrimp and Tomato soup was GREAT. The broth without garnish was full of flavor, you got a nice light fishy taste combine with the acidic tomato. Noodles soaking up those juices, garnished with Lemon, Cilantro, Sprouts, Thai Basil and more lemon really made this dish amazing. It had two shrimps and a lot of Fish Cake Slices and 1 Fish Ball. Sadly, we epically failed at finishing our soups. We stuffed ourselves silly and when we were given our To-Go containers they were nearly full! HELLO Left Overs! Nom Nom Nom. Before we left we grabbed a Jack Fruit Juice to go, and boy was it SWEET. Perfect little treat.

Mission Noodle was a pleasant surprise. It is located a few doors from Ty Sandwich and what I did not know, they serve spicy soup(very similar to Bun Bo Hue). It was actually fantastic. I had also ordered their Fresh Spring Roll which was also very good. Customer service here was the other surprise. Excellent. The nice gentleman who took my order was very nice. Overall, good menu, good comfort food, great service, good pricing, and clean atmosphere. I would definitely come back here again if I’m in the area. Until then, Cheers! ~ :p

This place is less than impressive. We got an appetizer and the fired egg rolls were not crispy what so ever. I ordered the chicken phở, not the best. They have a small amount a chicken and mostly all noodles. The toppings given were such a minimal amount there was almost no reason to send them. I was also not a fan of the type of noodles they have. The broth was a bit more flavorful then some other places in the area though. My boyfriend ordered the BBQ chicken over rice. He didnt particularly care for it. The chicken was dry and had little flavor. He was also a bit sketch on how it looked. Long story short, we will not be coming back. Food was not up to par what so ever.
