Midnight Sun

I have been here several times and want to like it, I just don’t. It is crowded, noisy and not enoph seating IMHO.

two for one well drinks on wednesday evenings until late. the drinks aren’t strong but they played 90s music which more than makes up for it

Seems to be a fine bar for a cocktail and hanging with friends. I’ve been twice at different times and I want to say both times drinks were 2 for 1. Also the drinks pack a wallop. One time there was a drag queen on a small stage. The crowd was feelin’ it. Sounds like fun, no?

Visited after a few years away, and having gone since 1980. Lots has changed in the past few years. Seems to still have a solid fan base. Great videos and music. No more middle tall tables. Bartenders are friendly mostly but could dress a bit more professional… tank tops and large t shirts don’t fit with the vibe. Worth a visit and dependable place to hang out.

I had a great time hanging out here last night. Awesome bar, music, videos and TV screens. The crowd was awesome and the hot gogo dancers in jock straps were the icing on the cake.

Today and the rude door man, I won’t step back into this place. He wouldn’t listen to the fact a guy didn’t understand him, and got nasty at the door when the guy tried to walk out with a drink. Then I in plain English tried to talk to him and all he had to say was Bye Falishia. Total jerk !

trans man this place is one of my favorites! No matter what, I feel safe and welcomed here. 2 for 1 specials are frequent and you can never have a bad time when Billy mans the bar! Seriously, this is the place to go if you are looking for a fun night! MIDNIGHT SUN! OPEN MINDS!

The remodel is great. The restroom placement has opened up the front of the bar for more seating and a big window. The place is much cleaner now and I really appreciate that. They offer a small list of special house cocktails which I like. The staff are nice and are quick with the order taking and drink making.

I have been a happy hour customer at the Midnight Sun for many years! Great bartenders and staff who get to know you welcoming you ready to serve your usual cocktail with a smile or a hug.

I’ve been here a couple of time and I have to say it really is a pretty happening little bar. The music is good the bartenders are so nice and Happy Hour… the drinks are two for one and the prices can’t be beat. I ordered a kettle and soda with extra lime… 7 bucks for two. 7 BUCKS! I have a good time whenever I go there not matter what crowd comes through the door.
If your looking for a place to day drink or start your night I recommend stopping by and ordering your favorite drink. You might end up staying longer than expected. You will have a good time, i promise.

This place was nasty before the remodel. I went once. Just once.
Since the remodel, it’s just much nicer as a space. Better furnished, better lighting, altogether better aesthetic.
The crowd is «just okay,» and the bartenders aren’t the friendliest, but the drinks are reasonably priced and it’s on your way… somewhere.

I love the midnight sun! Ever since they got strippers on the bar on Friday nights it’s my go to bar.

the bar attendents some are very nice and work very hard for the money, the bar gets very busy early hours on frindays. i give one star because the DJ/​VJ kept my money couple times and never played de song/​video that i requested bad bad bad bad

They probably have the best Happy Hour deal! Come have a drink before 9pm, and it’s 2 for 1! Got 2 drinks and it was 6 bucks, whaat?!?
Despite the cheap drinks, this place is filled with friendly crowd and awesome bartenders. If you are lucky, you may see the bartenders shirtless. Also this place is popping every day of the week at all times, so grab your friends and start your night here.
They also play the good oldies and interesting music videos. Some are awesome, some are weird and funny.
Anyways, I found my experience very enjoyable. Definitely recommended!

So after becoming a regular — I really got to say THE BEST WEDNESDAY NIGHT ON CASTRO {I hope you wrote that down} is at Midnight Sun — hands down. DJ Bill Dupp acknowledged and accepted a couple requests (local Castro DJs take note before you use your clientele to this DJs time slots.) — and Billy? Can you spell «w-​e-​l-​c-​I-​m-​i-​n-​g» (local Castro Bartendees take note.) — it’s safe to say this is the first recommendation to any out of towner client I have — and I have a lot.
Midnight Sun wins.
Only thing — the acoustics are terrible. Since they removed the carpet wall coverings they haven’t figured out how to set an acceptable treble level (it’s all about the Bass honeys).
Beau looks fabulous but as Wednesday is ladies night there — please make this gay boy feel more at home and finish this place to how fierce it could be (and was) so I can have an acceptable ambiance (so I can tip your awesome bartenders more [J’Duh].
And just in case you don’t know: «J’Duh» is how San Franciscans say «DUH» in French.

We ended up here at the last minute around 1:30am it was just the bartender David and two other guys but we had so much fun chatting it up and David made us drinks and even gave me one for free on the house to try! I would def going again. llif I had fun when it was dead imagine when it’s packed! I told you I would write a review for you David! If you’re reading this (: haha

I have been a patron of Midnight Sun since 1993. The recent remodel is just okay; they need to replace the sealed cork on the walls with a material that absorbs sound better. But I love the addition of the large window at the front of the bar.
Best days to go here (IMO) are Wednesdays (Way Back Wednesdays — retro videos) and Fridays. The place gets PACKED on Fridays. The bartenders have always been very friendly!
Love this bar and always will!

Gay Bar Pub Crawl, Part 1.
After Ubering it to the Castro, Jen and I met her friend Aamir, who had brought a couple of his friends, one of which was meant to be for me. I say that because he asked if I would be interested in a tall, hairy, mid-​thirties top, and Jen reiterated that a tall, hairy, mid-​thirties top is basically my type. Take that as a baseline, mix and match hair colors and varying degrees of ethnicities/​swarthiness, and I’ve got pretty much got myself a date.
Everything was really loud. And crowded. Once you get up to the bar, you realize you’d better order strong, because your chances of getting up to the bar again are minimal. Luckily, they have friendly bartenders and an extremely strong pour, which made everything else all right. I think a second one from here would have sent me to the ICU.
We all sort of shouted pleasantries at each other. The guy they brought for me was cute, but aloof. Somehow, we made it to the back left corner under the giant video screen, where I danced to Britney Spears, but probably not as good as the go-​go boy in tight pink shorts who was dramatically humping the top of the bar. I found out that Aamir and I have ridiculous amounts of friends in common. And not just some random ‘mos, I mean like, girls from college, and couples from my church in Austin. It’s a small world.
No, I mean really, it was a small world. After being elbowed by what felt like every gay guy in San Francisco, we decided to bounce. I loved this as a first stop, but twenty minutes a sardine was really more than I could handle.
Anyways, thanks for the warm, boozy welcome, Midnight Sun.

Every time I come here, life just gets f*ed up. in a good way of course. Serious though, how can anyone attempt to have fun after having two really strong rounds at this place. I usually end up being a bumbling idiot. Always a good time though, which is why I keep going back.
Glad to see there’s a remodel going on. It’ll be nice to have a sexy bar in the hood.
